Front row center for the Tinley Park IL show. An old buddy won 4 tix off Q-101. What Brad Wilk mentioned about the chairs flying was true @ the IL show. We were in the front row of the pavilan seats, there were 2 rows of plastic seats in front of us. Rage came on, the people in the chairs not nailed down fled for their lives! Love that era of the band cause Evil Empire is my favourite record by them, and they were playing a few "deep tracks from EE on that tour. The IL show was the last of the tour if im not mistaken? Ol' Dirty Bastard was arrested after the Tinley Park show, and that was that if memory serves. And my front row ticket landed in my lap. Shout out to my boy Sean from Buffalo Grove for winning the tickets, and shout out to my boy Dave, from MY hometown, Mundelein IL (one town over from Libertyville where Tom Morello went to HS) for talking them in to taking me with them all super last minute. 👊

I was at this show, down front, I remember it being pretty chill down there until toward the end, and all of a sudden people just came crushing forward. I was just trying not to get crushed, we knew the seats were flying behind us but I didn't hear about pepper spray, fence fires and sod throwing until it was over. I just remember a lot of people pouring down from the section behind us and trying not to get kicked in the head. I was 17, it was the 90s, so being kicked in the head once or twice at a concert was sort of....expected? But I recall this being actually kind of scary. Maybe it was just how fast it shifted, everybody was cool during Wu Tang, the mood shifted fast. I went back to that venue a year later when Pearl Jam came through, this time on the lawn, it was super chilly out and kind of an underwhelming experience overall. It made me sort of miss the seat throwing, fire setting maniacs of '97 lol.
