I didn’t know that a lot of rappers were in to horror movies of books until recently I heard on a horror podcast that a lot of artists are fans of the horror genre and sometimes is part of the inspiration for their songs or sampling there soundtracks. D-12 American Psycho, silence of the lambs, Carrie, Halloween, psycho
      JayZ D”evils references The Exorcist
Lupe Fiasco - “Super Cold reference The shining
      2Pac Troublesome 96 references Candyman
Wu-Tang Clan references House on Haunted Hill with gravel pit
I’m sure there’s more too I love horror so when I heard about it I actually went back and listened to them again and was surprised I didn’t notice it before. I guess it was subtle enough that I didn’t catch it but thought it was awesome!

Little none fact to many around the country, is that during the 80's in the NY tri-state area ( NYC, NJ, CT ) Kung Fu movies where shown on local TV on Saturday afternoons. There was a generation of boys that grew up watching martial arts flicks in the 80's and you can hear the influence of the movies in early rap lyrics. The Wu -Tang Clan took it to a whole new level however and that is one of the reasons why the group resonated with a lot of NY, NJ males in the 90's so quickly. Also in Manhattan, during the same time period, the only type of movies you could watch in movie theaters, 24 hours a day, seven days a week were adult movies and Kung Fu movies. That's how popular martial arts movies were in NYC during that era.

Not Just NYC this was Global Suhn in South African Townships in the late 80s early 90s someone who had a TV and VHS would bring it and the whole neighborhood would be in that house watching Kung-Fu movies, When Wu-Tang was known in the mid 90s everyone went krazy with that Shaolin Style Hip hop.

JUst saw Marvel's Shang Chi recently and i can't hep but think how knowledgable RZA is in regards to Kung Fu & it's various fighting styles. It would have been nice for him to be involved in the production in some capacity, given his love, history & knowledge of ancient martial arts.
