    Wild how much Jackson catches McClellan with no effect. Makes you wonder if his chin allowed him to take flush shots, but the damage was being done in a different way, leading to the Benn outcome.

      I agree, not only did GM take heavy headshots from JJ in the first fight, he also took them in infamous & regular sparring sessions in the Kronk. It is noticeable, again, in their first meeting, that GM was exhibiting blinking & pushing out of his gumshield consistent with what was noted in the NB fight; clearly far less frequently, but te signs were there. Previously, this gesturing was thought to be just idiosyncrasies particular to GM, but, in hindsight, more likely indicators of repeated neurological trauma. In his contest with NB, GM took a lot of hooks to the head, many of those landing as rabbit punches due to the forward momentum of both fighters & Benn was a known headhunter, rarely throwing body shots; in addition to the concussive head punches he took, his style made him prone to head clashes & this was certainly the case in the fight with NB.

    • @JeffJackson-bg8rg
      @JeffJackson-bg8rg 4 месяца назад

      It was the roided out benn and his non stop rabbit punches, low blows, head butts, and a slow count in round #1 (never shouldve went past 1) Refs to blame, corner man to blame too. If he had Emanuel Steward in his corner still, I truly believe this outcome would not have been, Steward wouldve blown his mind at the refs, including a voluntary stoppage after the 10th rabbit punch and 2nd head butt. He protected his fighters. Just my .02.

      Guys fighting at the championship level make an enormous amount of money, and could easily afford both insurance and retirement plans; even as an independent (incorporated or LLC). But no one teaches athletes to manage their money. They go from being kids with nothing to suddenly having access to potentially millions of dollars...while still being basically kids. Everyone picks and paws at them, from managers, accountants, agents, lawyers, and even their own family members. They also have the invincibility complex that most 20-somethings have where they don't think the good times are going to end. Before they know it, an injury happens, a better athlete comes along, or even just natural process of aging and their career is over.
      As to after-career benefits: there is NO WAY any professional sport would be able to maintain itself if they were continuing to pay for the thousands and thousands of retired athletes who no longer make the organization money. Is it a bit tragic that athletes are viewed as disposable assets? Yep, but those athletes could also spend time focused on how to manage their money instead of living it up during the short time their careers will transpire. Save now, live it up when retired by the time they are 30.

Don King is one man I wish had nothing to do with boxing. He is a remorseless sociopath with no care, or sense of moral duty, he cares only for money and control, that’s it. King also had a hand in coercing McClellan to leave Manny Steward, no doubt it was about money. King was already squabbling with McCllellans family over, fees, prize money, and expenses within weeks of McClellans near death brain injury. King eventually came good with McClellans money, he paid what was agreed with a small amount on top due to medical cost and domestic costs immediately after and when he returned to the US. If memory serves me it was the first fight with The Hawk that ruined Gerald’s life in the long run; this despite it being the highlight of his career. He complained about headaches after taking too many hard shots from Julian. The damage was done there long before the Benn fight and it’s tragic conclusion destroying Gerald’s life and robbing fight fans of what could’ve been…McClellan v Roy Jones Jr, Toney or Bernard Hopkins. Thanks for uploading this, love the channel 🙌

      Those punches did alter his life forever. Had Jackson not had those vision problems in the second fight it would have been a great fight as well but I think G-Man would have beat them anyway. He was a different type of savage. Julian Jackson had one punch knockout power that was harder but G-Man was a whole other type of swarm fighter. If that Nigel Benn fight hadn't happened and it wasn't the power of Nigel Benn that did it either. Watch that fight closely. If Richard Steele would have been there, he would have called that fight in the first round. Lol. Wish he had. G-Man was a monster in the ring

Julian Jackson had a harder / punch power rate but G-Man was on another level with savagery and skill. Crunch Gym turned out a monster with that one and he had everybody shook. If round1 had happened today between he and Nigel Benn, they would have stopped that. Jackson did a lot of damage to him though but G-Man was a Savage on the other level. He kindly shared many stories of experiences with his fighters, some good and some not so good, but him talking about Gerald McClellan always stuck with me. It was clear he didn't want to say anything negative at that time about the guy, but clear also that he really had nothing good to say either. He just referred to him several times as a very cruel and mean intended human being, and that he never was able to relate to him as an individual, and that his and McClelland partnership was 100% buisness and nothing more. Gerald McClellan was a hell of a fighter. He twice fought, and convincingly beat another truly great fighter is Julian Jackson. However, he did not escape unscathed. I believe, as do many others, Jackson's powerful blows to McClellan's head did permanent damage that would eventually be worsened in his final bout against Nigel Benn. McCellan complained of repeated headaches after the last McClellan bout.
    I was once a lot more sympathetic of the crippling injuries McClellan suffered during his boxing career. What changed my opinion of him is when I learned of his involvement in dog fighting. It is bad enough to participate in something far more brutal, something fully inhumane that is boxing, but McClellan took it a step further. According to his own trainer McClellan once allowed his Pit Bull to savagely kill a defenseless dog after having taped the mouth of the dog closed. From that point forward, including to this day, I have little sympathy for McClellan. I figure he got payment in full for the cruelty he had inflicted upon another living creature. Karma is a real bitch, and McClellan's barbarism provoked Karma that was not just a bitch, but a truly pissed and vengeful bitch. The old motto 'Do unto other, blah, blah, blah" apparently does not apply to how we are to treat other people. He abused one of God's greater creations, man's best friend, so God gave him the reward he had earned. And the day will come where Gerald will stand before. Maybe God will figure he's been punished enough. Then again, maybe not.

    Possibly the greatest boxer of all time, extreme power, so sad what happened. Wasn't even close to being in his prime. Incredible speed, technically gifted boxer.

      Possibly the greatest boxer of all time? Really? Your comment is on the wrong video….this isn’t about Ali or Sugar Ray Robinson…..or a whole host of others that can be described as the greatest boxers.
      McClellan was awesome (incredible puncher, rangy, great chin, not scared of anyone etc) but never a great….maybe potential unfulfilled however we will never know how his career may have turned out.

      I'm a massive fan of nigel but I don't think he would have stopped a healthy Mclennan.

      @@peterbalac1915 where is the evidence to suggest mclellan wasn't healthy?all fighters carry damage from previous battles and nigel Benn had been in a few wars himself before he fought mClellan.boxing is as much about intangibles as it is power and skill.heart,desire,will and punch resistance are all things that cannot be measured but can somers overcome power and skill and Benn proved over mclellan.also mclellan saying his fights won't go over 3 rounds was a strange thing to say because what happens when your opponent is still there 5 or 6 rounds later??

    3:50 Big Frank worried me when he interrupted the narrator with ‘…there’s a dangerous, dangerous, dangerous No1 hit man in America…’ if he said dangerous one more time my phone would’ve exploded and caught fire 😂

    Let's put this into perspective. Jackson was a washed up, almost blind, former welterweight, whereas McClelland intended to fight at light heavy. For those that feel sorry for what happened to McClelland after the Benn fight, consider karma, because he used to throw dogs with taped up mouths, to his pit bulls.
