    I've made lots of these over the last many years. Just love this method!
    Thought I'd pass along a tip. I didn't want to have a raw edge on the short side that goes behind the zipper, and since I don't have a serger and didn't want to have to zig-zag the edge, I first sewed a seam on each of the short ends before applying the zipper (sew right sides together on the short end, turn right sides out, press, then continue as Whitney instructs). Makes it a little more finished with no fraying threads to get stuck in the zipper, and just a few extra minutes added to the 5-minute zipper bag!

    I literally watched this video and was inspired and popped out of bed to make one and it only took a few minutes! I made a small one and also added a key ring which took me a sec to figure to think about how it would work, but it did. I also sewed the zipper in the regular way you would for a zipper pouch to hide the edges and then did the French seams! Love it so much much? Thank you!!

    Aloha Whitney... and our favorite Latin lurkers, et al...
    * * *
    I am always amazed at how easy this bag is to create...
    EVEN IF you do want to use directional fabric... it is simply a matter of cutting the outer fabric in half; orienting the images the way they are desired; and sew the outer fabric together again before beginning... easy peasy... adding another two or three minutes to the entire project... OMG... THAT much longer?! LOL
    * * *
    I am simply amazed each time I come to visit this video... what a great project...!
    * * *
    Thanks for sharing, posting, and giving us all a grand recurring treat at the exact time we need one... (wink)
    * * *
    Until that time. . .

      @@moderndaymercantile I'm glad I'm not the only one! I was telling Whitney in a comment that my dad was with Singer for 50 years before he passed, but I only started sewing as an adult. Typical kid. You don't enjoy what you have available to you. I could have been learning from all the wonderful ladies that he knew and employed, but I had to wait and do it on my own. LOL so I still need to get comfortable with some of the basics even after all this time.

    Hi Whitney, I've made many zipper bags following various tutorials, but this is the first I've seen with sewing the fabrics right sides out and using French seams - terrific! I can't wait to try one. The only other thing I would do is press with an iron as I go along to flatten everything out and make it as neat as possible. Many thanks!

    I was attempting to teach my 11-year old granddaughter to sew using this simple method that I recalled from viewing it quite a while ago.
    I promptly forgot the first step... sewed the lining and the outer fabric like I recalled from all the other tutorials out there... then promptly lost my way on how to sew the other edge of the zipper to the other end of the fabric... (sigh)
    * * *
    The 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬 𝐢𝐬: I found you again after only sewing one side of the two pieces of fabric to one side of the zipper.
    I'll hit it with the seam ripper and start anew when she gets home today.
    It'll give her lots of practice with sewing straight seams...
    then maybe on to the double-pocket cross-body bag... that'll be fun for both of us.
    * * *
    I've subscribed and will never stray far from your great tutorials from this day forward... I promise... (grin)
    You're a wonderful tutor, a knowledgeable sewist, and present the most thoroughly thought-out, high-quality projects with the least amount of effort...(sigh)
    I also love French seams... 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 ...
    * * *
    I'm having a problem creating a clean hem (edge) on a piece of 𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐜 (a banner that can easily wave in the breeze).
    It is thin and shiny... I tried a rolled hem attachment, but it won't roll properly through the attachment.
    I'm trying a walking foot... but need a way to get the fabric to stay put.
    I have basting tape available but thought it might make the edges a bit more rigid than I'd like...
    I was really thinking of a French seam... I can't quite figure out how to make it with a single layer of fabric...?
    Any suggestions?
    I'm not sure if you have any expertise with thinner, more airy fabrics... but you are the 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐦... (grin)
    Well, you are to me, anyhow... (wink)
    * * *
    Thanks for any assistance you might provide...
    * * *
    "𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲 𝐈𝐬𝐥𝐞,
    𝐇𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐰, 𝐍𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐚;

    This is awesome. I’m gonna try and put a batting in between the fabrics for an IPad bag.

    I love this one. It's much easier than other lined zip bags I've seen. The french seam makes it easy, like the pillowcase. Thanks BTW, I deconstructed a cheap pouch, which has a waterproof lining, and I think I can use this method to add a new exterior fabric, with minimal effort!

    Thanks to you, I was able to create a lined zipper pouch today for my friend! 😍👛✨ I made it 5.5 in x 9 in though so it could be used to carry smaller items like coins or lipgloss. ☺️ I sort of failed on the French seam, but all in all the end result made me so happy! Especially since I’m not the best at sewing! Ah! You’ve given me so much confidence to try more! Thank you, thank you! 💖

    Whitney, I found your YT channel this week and this tutorial is amazing! I made three large bags (14” x 18”) yesterday for cross stitch project bags. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful pattern. I made Christmas, Patriotic and a very girly rose project bags. I plan to make some smaller one for gifts. I am making cross stitch Christmas ornaments for my Children and I will make bags for them to store them. I also have friends who have to carry Epi Pens with them at all times due to allergies and I plan to make small ones for them to carry Epi Pens, antihistamine in. It’s so kind of you to provide such a helpful, easy to follow tutorial. I am talking about your tutorial on the FB pages I follow.

      Brilliant!! Epi pen bags! I take my son to hospital for allergy shots every month. We can’t leave early unless I prove I have our pen. . . in a ziplock bag. I’m going to make s bag for that also. Such a great idea. Thanks.
