    What an obvious reason (that i never thought of before seeing you do it) to start and end your sewing on a piece of scrap fabric , double stitching at the beginning and ending of your seam to lock your thread in place. So, THAT'S how you keep your seams from having those tiny bits of thread when you cut it off. TYSM for sharing this video with us. I've been searching for such a zipper bag pattern. YAAAY !!! Finally found one !!! 😉😻❣️😍

      And how you sew the two pieces of fabric together, then, sew them both onto the zipper in one pass is a wonderful thing to do, making it easier to produce a bag or pouch. Using a longer zipper is a great tip, too !!! So many tips in this video. TYSM for sharing it. 😍❣️😻

    After the Saturday "live" I experimented with different sizes and zipper placements. I made one for clean masks and one for used masks. I used double-sided tape to hold the zipper to fabric. Made for fast stitching! Thanks for the inspiration! Love the swirls quilting! Good job Robin!

      Thank you. Yes, double sided tape is a very handy tool for zippers. There’s also a fusible I think from heat & bond that comes on a roll. It’s perfect for a quick hem too.

    Nice pouches. I've used both seam methods when making these - overlock edges and french seams. The aprons I'm making are giving me some LONG selvedges, so one day I'll use some up in this style of pouch. Happy sewing Robin and have a great weekend :)

    • @rsislandcrafts

      I’ve never used french seems in a zipper pouch. Until today that is. I found I need a little more practice with French seams. You will have long selvages from all of your apron sewing. You can have a little fun with them. Enjoy your weekend. I think we’ll both be in our sewing spaces doing what needs to be done.

    Why are the raw edges ironed 1/4” in on 2 opposite edges ?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  3 месяца назад +1

      I’m sorry it’s been a few years since I made this video. I don’t see a spot where I pressed over a 1/4” hem. I ran short on interfacing which may make It look like I folded over the left and right edges but I didn’t. If you could please give me a time stamp from the video where I pressed over a 1/4” then I’d be better able to answer your question. Thanks!

  • @darlenefrederick8444

    Could this be made into a boxed-bottom or flat-bottom pouch but increasing the size of the fabric, cutting out a square from the 2 bottom corners and sewing them together to box those corners?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  7 месяцев назад +1

      I think you could. It’s been awhile since I made this style pouch. I think you’d end up with exposed seams where you box the corners of the bag. It’ll be a small area that you can zig zag over or add a small strip of binding. If you boxed the bag with what I call the triangle method you could skip cutting off the extra triangle bits and just tuck them into the bottom of the pouch. The triangle method is instead of precutting out the corner squares. I show that method in this video. m.ruclips.net/video/mMpOhd4Kepw/видео.html&pp=ygUcUnNpc2xhbmRjcmFmdHMgYm94ZWQgY29ybmVycw%3D%3D
      Have fun! I like trying different ideas to see how they work. I always suggest trying with some random fabric bits first to see how It works. That way you’re not “wasting” your good fabric on the test model.

    Very cute pouch! I got to thinking, would it be possible to sew your two fabrics all the way around (leaving a gap to turn right sides out), then add the zipper and stitch down both sides, but I'm not sure how stiff that would make the sides of the pouch. Maybe I'll have to get a couple of zippers to try it both ways. Maybe leave off the interfacing from the side seam edges?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  3 года назад +2

      Yes. You can do that. Keeping the interfacing out of the seams is a very good idea. You would have visible stitching seams on the outside but if you use the same color thread most people won’t notice It. Or you can use contrasting thread and make It a design element. You would need to be careful around the zipper and zipper ends. If you used a nylon zipper you could then carefully sew over the zipper ends. Or plan ahead with your seam allowance. Have fun !!

  • @CordulaPrice

Fo instance things like d rings and such. I was thinking of a heavier lining for that. I have tons of felt. Do you think I could use that as my interfacing ? Just trying to use it up. I have nieces and nephews that are going to love these. 😁😁👍🏻

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  3 года назад +2

      Thank you! I sometimes use felt, flannel, or the thin fleece in place of batting and interfacing. It uses up those random scraps and works just as well. Try It and see if you like It. Happy sewing!!

    What is the measurement of the fabric?

    • @rsislandcrafts
      @rsislandcrafts  2 года назад +2

      Your fabric measurements are determined by the length of your zipper and how tall or deep you need your pouch to be. In the video I mention that this pouch is 12.5” tall and 11” wide. Both the outer fabric and the lining are cut the same size. If you go to the 3 minute and 24 second mark in the video I talk about the size of the pouch that I’m showing. Again, you can make It any size that works for you. I hope that helps. 🦩
