    Great video, I have driven every GEN Miata and the best Miata is the one you’re in. I have a 1999 NB1 with a five speed manual, LSD, and a hard dog Rollbar. • @TassieLorenzo
      @TassieLorenzo 7 месяцев назад +2

      Are 2.5 swaps more popular than RX-8 13B swaps? 🤔 As a casual observer, I feel like the latter would lean more into Mazda folklore and I understand it's a relatively straight-forward swap: "almost like it's made for the 13B"? 🙂

    • @Ben-bg2eg
      @Ben-bg2eg 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@TassieLorenzoThe 2.5 is a popular swap because used fusion motors are plentiful and generally reliable for this application, and it swaps right in with little modification necessary.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 7 месяцев назад +4

      @@TassieLorenzo The rotary swap into an NC is apparently not as straightforward as it should be. Surprisingly few people have done it, and my understanding is it requires a whole RX8 front subframe and some fabrication on the PPF. The 2.5 drops in with barely any modification at all, because it's the exact same engine just with a slightly taller deck. The 2.5 is practically free, and while you have it on the bench, it's super easy to throw some cams and forged internals at it, which make it really walk all over the Renesis. It's also usually legal in lower race classes than the rotary would be. With that said, I would choose the rotary swap 10 out of 10 times, personally. I think torque is the enemy of fun sports cars on the street. A rotary would be like having a 2-stroke Miata, and that's the most fun thing imaginable.

      It feels like a 90's car in all the right ways. There's something that happened with cars in the early to mid 2000's where they all went significantly more muted and numb as manufacturers really started to dial in their reduction of NVH. Exactly what I was coming to say. I had been tracking NC3 Clubs for 3-4 months before I landed on the cheapest ND2 (2021) Club in the US a little while back. The price diff was only a couple of thousand dollars (with clean CarFaxes) because the NC Club sellers were less open to negotiating, and I personally preferred the looks (though I think folks are too tough on the NC) and interior of the ND by a mile, so it ended up working out.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 7 месяцев назад +1

      I think the NC3 Club is overrated compared to NC2. I personally prefer the looks of the NC2, and if you're going to do the suspension anyway, they're identical platforms. You get the same forged engine, same power and redline, same trans, same LSD, same shock tower brace, etc etc. The big change from NC2 to NC3 was the internal valving in the Bilsteins. If you're putting Ohlins or even Konis on the car, that doesn't matter. I've seen NC2s go for like 10k on Cars and Bids - with Ohlins!

I think you're right that it has to come down to whether or not you're looking for the creature comforts.

    I think the ND2 is the best one can get for a Miata. Don't bother getting the coming 2024 ND3 as it only added a few electronic driving aids like radar cruise control. Relocated DRL's and an updated infitainment system plus a tweak on the steering system for more feel. The engine and suspension will not be getting any changes. The next generation NE(?) will be a hybrid, so it will most likely be a big change away from the Miata's "analogue personality".

    • @veefource
      @veefource 7 месяцев назад

      Yeah they supposedly removed a bush from the steering but that will have a negligible difference as most of the friction is in the gears and motor response. They have tweaked the software but for a 'lighter' feel which doesn't sound appealing to me.
      It also has a new asymmetric lsd but it seems to work in the opposite way to a 1.5 lsd, ie more hook up under braking and less under power. Good for a novice driver but not so much for harder driving.

    Respectfully, I have to voice two significant complaints about this video. First, it's really disingenuous to title the video without any mention of the fact that both cars are modified, and one of them heavily modified. I wouldn't have wasted my time on a video about modified miatas, and your title implies that they are stock because it doesn't mention that they are modded. My second complaint is that this is a dumb review to do anyway. If you had an NC and an ND that were both stock, that would be extremely valuable. If you had an NC and an ND that had both received approximately similar mods, that would be moderately useful as well. But to compare a lightly modified and see with a supercharged ND is just ridiculous and pointless to me. Why even compare an apple against an orange? I don't get it. I will say I like your style of shooting a narrating your video, so that's good. But I really don't get the choice to do this particular video, and I don't understand why it isn't titled accurately.

    That's too much tire and wheel for a stock NC power level. If it was on light wheels and 225 the steering would be much more alive. I have a similar setup but with FI, and gave up a lot of that light feeling for grip. These cars are very sensitive to unsprung weight.

      It's a lightly modified Mazda3 engine. The dual-VTEC K20 has not met emissions since 2011 unfortunately, even the K24Z7 (integrated exhaust manifold) is not made anymore as far as I know. I really think the ticket is an NC MX-5 with the RX-8 13B rotary engine -- more revs, more power (even if marginally less power than what Mazda say), nice compact engine... I understand the front subframe and engine swap straight over from an RX-8. I'm baffled why the swap to the 13B isn't more popular!

      No one touches Honda in terms of power from a 2.0 NA engine. Mazda always tuned the Miata engines to prioritize mid-range torque, which is about right to drive the car 6 or 7 tenths like stock Miatas are meant to do. The NA and NB Miatas were simply limited by the awful ports in that VERY old BP engine. During the middle of the NC's career, the emissions regulations tightened to really require a very short exhaust manifold and pre-cat, which spells instant doom for high-revving NA engines. We can see that the S2000 and 8000rpm K20 went away around that time (along with the rotary, for related-but-different reasons). Stock K24s make more power than the NC only because they're 400cc larger - their RPM and flow advantages are not legal for OE manufacture anymore. The ND1 was low-powered because that car was never intended to have a 2.0 engine. Mazda of North America fought hard to make that happen, and they only had time to direct-drop the torque-biased Mazda3 version of that engine in the car.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 7 месяцев назад

      Pads and fluid go a VERY long way to stopping fade. According to Flyin' Miata, they run stock-size brakes on their LS-swapped NCs and don't get fade at the track with appropriate pads and fluid.
