Good, informative video. The vacuum fill tool, while a specialized tool, is actually not that expensive and is nice to have if you are an "intermediate" or higher level DIY mechanic. It is made by Schwaben and ECS Tuning sells it for ~$80. I have it and it works great. I have not used it on my F80 yet for either cooling system, but I have used it on my son's 128i with N52 engine twice. Makes the fill process seamless, with only one bleed cycle required to burp any residual air in the system.
+James M. Yes I was referring to the tool BMW shops have to get the fluid OUT. Putting it back in with a vacuum fill isn’t as bad, and probably what I will use since I have one.
Extremely interesting video. This answers a lot of questions I had. A question: do you know how the S55 cooling system relieves itself of pressure in case the expansion tanks are not enough? I don't see a pressure relief valve in the circuit, nor observing the radiator of the car in your coolant change video. I'm intrigued.
Amazing ! I look forward to the servicing as I will also attempt it after you on my austin yellow m4 😊. Btw can you also do a vid on how to service the differential oil?
Hi, Is it possible to provide some of the images you used in the video as a file or standalone image? Id like to have them saved to look at when working on my S55. Thanks. Great video.
Hey thanks for the video. Very informative. Question: when filling up the expansion tank, do you put in the 50/50 mix of water coolant or just water? thanks!!
+@humbertogamarrajr.3971 you’re welcome! Please subscribe to the channel 😉 Use the 50/50 mix if you can. If only topping it off at a separate time it’s ok to just use distilled water.
I believe he is referring to the official BMW Technical Training S55 engine document. You can do a quick google search and find a pdf to download. It is very helpful and gives a lot of insight
I think my f80's electric fan shroud are broken. so I search ISTA and found how to replace. But I have to displace electric coolant pump hose, and bottom plate. and need special grease for does parts reconnect. Can I pull it out without drain and easy?
I see an oily stain around the cap of the expansion tank behind the charge air cooler on the top of the engine. I unscrewed it, and re tighten it. Have not seen the stain/seepage since, should I order a new cap? What coolant do I use to top it off. Thanks for the video, it calmed my nerves brother 🙃
+jonathan pinkett you got it! Hope you’re a subscriber now 😉 I use the BMW coolant mixed 50/50. If you only need a little to top it off you can just use distilled water alone. I would top off and drive like it is but check the level frequently.
+Alan Kim if that explanation didn’t make sense to you then watch this video where I change the coolant and you can see it in action: ruclips.net/video/HrXuNd5cH3A/видео.html
Do you think that it might be possible to use a venturi valve to also take out all the coolant? I mean, the point would be not just to refill the coolant but also to take it out. What do think?
I spent several hours trying to figure all this out and then I found your video and it had all the information in one place well explained It doesn't get any better than that!
Yeah I did the exact same thing and added calling a tech to make sure I understood it all correctly. Since I had him on the phone I added the info on the “official” way Bmw tells them to change the coolant.
This video needs to have 1 million views 🙌
+Christopher Morales I think so 😉 Share! 🍻
Found this via your post on the forums - this is a great video, excellent timing and explanation. No background music? Awesome. Keep it up!
+fackamato thanks for the ❤️! And no, you’re not the only one that hates background music when it’s not needed 😎
Just did my coolant flush, did a 75/25 distilled water/coolant ratio for the low temp circuit. thanks for the info 😃

I do pretty much all my own work on my 16’ M3 and was actually thinking about the 60,000 miles on my coolant. This is excellent. Thx,

+Billy Johnson thanks! Nice to hear from another DIY’er. Coolant change should be out soon!

Thanks! It was a hard copy printed manual that came with the car from the seller

This was really well done. Thanks. Went back and watched all your M3/M4 content. Any chance of you doing a DCT fluid change in the future?
+Derek Hanson thanks a lot! I’m going to publish the coolant change today, and in sure I’ll tackle the DCT fluid eventually 😁
Amazing ! I look forward to the servicing as I will also attempt it after you on my austin yellow m4 😊. Btw can you also do a vid on how to service the differential oil?

Is it possible to provide some of the images you used in the video as a file or standalone image? Id like to have them saved to look at when working on my S55.
Thanks. Great video.
+Julian Arnouk thanks! RUclips doesn’t have a way to do that, but how about taking a screenshot?
Hey thanks for the video. Very informative.

Hello, great video but I am wondering what book/ guide you're referencing that has all these diagrams. Keep up with your awesome m4 videos!
+Banana Boy thanks! Not sure where it came from originally. The original owner of my M4 had it printed out and included it with the sale of the car.

This is great video. Thanks for your support. Are you going to make more DIY for f82? How about spark plug?

do you know how to access the auxiliary coolant pump on the intercooler side? thank you

Why do you jack the front left and drain from the front left? Wouldn't that cause fluid to be trapped in the main radiator?
