So check the following when buying a used m4:
    • Air conditioning on earlier model - pressure sensor fails, leaks from condenser or pipe lines
    • Seat belt recall on 2014-15 models
    • Check Rocker cover for cracks
    • check for Oil leaks
    • Crank hubs upgraded?
    • iDrive is up to date
    • Panel air filters are better
    • Ensure substantial pipework if after market pipes have been added as softer pipes can collapse under pressure
    • Have flaps been removed from exhaust
    • Has DCT gearbox mapped been done if remapped?

I got a 2015, 85k miles now. Valve cover gasket needed to be replaced cus it was dripping oil onto the exhaust, gasket is $50 labor $700. 3 months later the car was making a hissing sound, found out valve cover is cracked now. So had to redo everything again, part was 500 labor same as before. Other wise been pretty good to me and I'm stage 2 catless for 25k miles and 15k miles on 100% e85

One thing I would add. on all the s55/n55 cars ive seen a handful of valvetronic motor failures. most of the time its on cars that were sitting for a long period of time. the motor will take out the 5v reference for a bunch of modules causing the car to go into limp mode with a bunch of faults. fairly easy repair.

Although it pains me to say this BMW ‘M’ division seems to have been run by the accounts department and the EU . Crank hubs , cam chains , bearing failures, minging cheap plastic components, the list goes on and on . That said it seems to be common place with most manufacturers except Japanese.
We use s50b32 / 30’s and s54 lumps in our race cars and their awesome with very few issues.

I repaired the car and when I drive the car, transmission slips on all even gears, odd gears work perfectly. When I repaired the car I did replace the transmission cooler, did have to top off transmission with 5 liters, then I noticed the problem, I flushed the fluid and did when programming with ISTA car could not set adaptation, says problem with clutch. Unfortunately these are some the issue we see as a BMW specialist, however these issues may never occur on a particular car.

Drove my 2015 m4 convertible for almost 40k miles, at 87k now., Only issues I have are the typical valve cover gasket needed to be replaced at 85k miles, cus it was dripping oil. Then few months later the valve cover needed to be replaced , it was hissing cus cracked

A 2015 BMW m4 with 70,000 miles was the most unreliable vehicle I have ever owned. What a money pit.

If you prefer, but the m4 is a great car, these are just some common issues we have seen being a BMW specialist, Thank you for watching.

No lexus is comparable unless you going LC500 territory..eats petrol..hell expensive and still slower. Reliability will not be much better. You cant have it all if you buying highperformance sports cars.
