You need to point out that if the dive talon is poisoned when you exit the area to avoid a Kamikaze, you MUST cure it of poison with poisona or an antidote and then re-poison it. Otherwise it wont drop loot. Also it should be pointed out that it will drop better loot if you have the HUNTER'S MONOGRAPH (for Beast Avion type foes) - talk to Gatsly in [Muthru Bazaar] to unlock it (after completing Thextera hunt). Costs 18,000 gil.
An alternative to this, if you don't mind waiting till after meeting Baltheir and Fran, is to go to the palace first and do that part of the story. Then, you can buy Immobilize from Rabanastre. This makes it far easier, and you can then chain Dive Talons normally by hitting them with Immobilize and attacking them with bows from just outside of their range. It takes a little while at first due to starting from no chain, but if you're not lucky, it's faster in the long run.
It took me a while, but level 22 and I had my burning bow. Probably around my 80th kill or so. No chaining wolves, just a level one quickening over and over til it dropped. Solo running with Vaan.
@secretagentarkane From what I understand If you cast poison then zone out and back in and poison kills it then no loot. You have to kill it with poison without zoning out after poison takes effect.

Only thing is and you can check guides on chanining, chain levels only effect loot drops as in items it doesnt effect actual gear drops. Onion arrow, bangle, head band etc all classify under gear therefore chain level does not effect the drop rate. I could be wrong but ive read it numerous times in numerous guides. Grimoires are the same only effect loot drops not gear drops.
I did I got 3 burning bows and chained the birds, if you are with penelo gives 1000 EX each. I got the Axe ( I don't remember the name now) and I just got the first Esfer in like 3 goes on him. Thank's Ashe for your tutorial in Neoseeker i have it on my mobile and just go there anytime I am lost.
@TuNeAwAcK Make sure the bird dies in a place where it can drop, if under the bird is a place you can't walk on by foot then it won't drop anything. in any casy just be patient and good luck =)
The Dive Talons never drop the Burning Bow for me :( All I get are over 75 wind magicites and some crappy handerkerchiefs and pebbles. It seems like they would never drop it but I would not give up so fast. Gotta keep trying. By the way how long did it take you to get yours?

And Fidelent is quite easy to get his heavy lance.. but it got it on my 3rd kill =p i got a level 3 chain =P and i was getting bone fragments from it when i accedentaly used a holy mote on the dive tallon cuasing me to have to chain it with quickengings.. i had been doing it before.. and at level 25 i got my 1st one =p but i got it from that accedental occation !!!
well xD I'm having real fun dustia leveling, I just LOVE XII it's by far one of my favorites in the series, I've just hit lvl 50, hopefully I can get 55 in 2 hours or so, and then the real fun begins x3 farm for weapons, farming money and LP since at 55, wouldn't be able to fill up the board on dustia alone sadly,I dunno if 300k gil could buy everything I'd need in nalbina AND the grimores too...
I've been chaining werewolves and get 68 chains, every time i kill one dive talon by poison he just desapear and drop nothing and I'm not breaking the chain... !I'm tryng but never do right...You can help me ?Thanks and sorry for my english...I'm brazilian so...you know...

...the WHOLE POINT IS TO DO THIS BEFORE YOU EVEN GET INTO THE GARAMSCYTHE WATERWAY, this is a PERFECT game, that means you're OP from the start and you farm for high powered weapons so you can go through the game smoothly and 100% easier
i just tried doing it to one dive talon and as soon as it went into HP critical it kamakazied me. My story progress so far is into the Nam-Yensa Sandsea and im using the killer bows. which are stronger than the silver bows. and when i go to blind and poison then it chews through my mana especially when it misses
yeah when he have 300~400 hp I'm not attack more but when he dies only desappear and drop nothing....i do it 5, 6 times but results ae always the same...I'm level 48....

It does increase the chance getting them, as for burning bow it goes up to 6% chance at max chain. without chaining 1% chance
Oh Idk if you mentioned this but if u poisioned it and u hv to zone out u hv to cure and re spell posion becuase it will not give u anything
do dive talons regen when you zone out because they regen if you leave them idle when your in the same zone

Don't take the loot they drop that way chain levels up after each 7-10 kill making you get highest chain level in at max 30 CHAIN

i just got a z spear on my second perfect game =P i got dragon mail before getting the spear

lol, i got one at lvl14 with an altair gun, a shortbow, and one character healing. took me over 40 attempts tho

How did you get your chain level to the max so quickly? I remember when I was chaining wolves I had to kill around 60 to get to the max.
