Much easier. I failed to utilize the reverse like i should have but got the hang of it towards the end. Much better than aerating for seeding. In my opinion
Hey Doc. For your first time you did fine. I bought a Billy Goat seeder about 8 years ago and honestly I don't use it as much as I thought I would but it's nice to have when a job pops up. I've owned a Turfco and that thing would kick your butt! My Billy Goat has pistol grips for forward and reverse and both are variable speed. It's just like any machine you don't have much experience with. Practice makes perfect. Again, you did fine. I was waiting to see if you would criss cross your pattern and you did!
@@DOCREAL1118 im about to do mine, i thught i should put a yard of top soil on top first but if i can skip that it be great! curious about your results!

Happy Easter Sarge. Glad you liked this one. Buddy, i bet you know Artillery like no one's business. I love watching shows about the armed forces. God bless buddy and Sarah and I love you bud
Just food for thought. Its a good idea to slice about three inches deep prior to this to reduce compaction to insure a deeper root system. Also guys put out an insecticide to make sure ants and other critters dont disturb the seed germination.
But isn't three inches much too deep for new seeds? The general consensus seems to be to not bury the seed deeper than one quarter of an inch or it will not germinate.
I think you’re going to like the results of the slice seeder.. It’s real common here in SW Missouri and almost the only way to go as well as plug aerate and seed. We usually do this in the fall because if done in the spring, the July sun and heat fries the new grass.. Excellent video as always my friend..
@@DOCREAL1118 No tips really... You did it the way I do it.! We usually use Tall Fescues here and cut it 3 1/2 - 4 inches. We are starting to see a little Bermuda here and there.
I would recommend slicing the lawn 2-3 times. Then spread seed with a broadcast spreader. I don’t trust the seed hopper. Leaf compost is a good idea but IMO not necessary. Spread starter fertilizer. Customer needs to water daily until germination, then 1” per week.
The lines that the machine cuts in appear to be a little too far apart. Is this adjustable? Could this machine also be used on a newly seeded lawn from the previous season without causing damage to the new seedlings?
My Billy Goat OS901SPH is being delivered today and a Billy Goat chariot accessory for riding behind is coming in tomorrow. I'm don't do commerical landscaping however have all pro equipment for our 4+ acres of lawns around our property.
@@DOCREAL1118 Oh I love the machine and especially when I use it with the Billy Goat chariot, saves me walking the long stretches and the Honda engine has so much power, its a breeze. This will be my second year using the slice seeder; have the seed and fertilizers etc. all ready and can't wait for the weather to warm up and overseed our front and side lawns again with Midnight Blue KBG from outsidepride and a high quality tall fescue for remaining acreage.
@@DOCREAL1118 I’ve been doing this a while and kinda winding down. However , I might just do seeding and aerating. That niche has always been profitable and I enjoy the most. A lot of lawn car companies don’t master it and/or don’t have the top of the line machines ( except the big guys). I’ve been looking at the Turfco stand on aerator with seed hopper attachment. The only thing I don’t like is that seeding and aerating is much different than just using an a tine driven over seeder that strategically places the seed is to the soil. I spoke to Turfco and they said their testing has been successful. It would be nice to do both with just 1 ride on machine.
@@DC-ih8bv What I never understood was why the stand on machines always drop the seed out front before the tines poke the holes. Seems the seed should drop afterwards
@@DOCREAL1118 totally agree. Number one ..it can damage the seed. It can also compact the seed into the soil too much. One other thing is that the aerating times are not lined up accordingly with the seed so a lot of the seed just sits on the grass bed with limited contact. It’s as if you just threw it. I just got my overseeder tire fixed( same as your machine by Toro) and had some seed in it. I experimented in this NJ weather to empty the hopper. It worked great. I still believe in aerating but was never sold on the 1-2 aerating /seeding process. Maybe I’m wrong.
I think you did a good job to what i can see on the screen .. in persons i would see much less ... every day is a learning experience in some way .. Great Video
You have to watch some dealers. I had a issue will a dealer some years ago. I sent in one rider>> had a severe vibration and a hydo had worn out. so I had both rebuilt and they swapped one pully. I get it home to base and at the time had truck issues and had to ride it a block to my movie house to mow and get there and the vibration starts up worse them before. yet another lost day of work I took it back. they played like they couldn't figger out what was wrong. but they where willing to take it on trade and give me sh*t for it. turns out it was a pulley they didn't replace. the guy working on it quit his job over it and told me the dealer had been doing this to everyone just to sell the riders and selling off the trades in other states to cover his ass.. needless to say I never went back to that asshole.

You did great. I know you must mow as short as possible do exactly as you did and just Roll Screen it maybe roll it to level off. Using leaf mulch is a plus we always use seed topper in California there is no leaf mulch.
Wouldn't bother using the hopper in the slice seeder. Use a broadcast spreader that you prefer and nail your weight for square footage. You can roll right over it all with the slicer afterwards and hit all the directions kinda like you did.

My issue has always been the front seed dial moving. Also if the seed hamper is clogged ..it’s hard to tell if you are getting 100% drop of seed.
