One point I would like to bring up that nobody talks about- insurance. Full coverage for a financed sport bike can run you up to $2,000/year. The XSR (despite being a sport bike with different clothes) is classified as a "standard" on insurance. Full coverage would be around $500/year. I was set to pull the trigger on the z900rs Cafe, but because that is classified as a "sport bike", insurance was astronomical. Seriously, check insurance prices before you buy. Dealers dont bring that up until you signed the papers on it.
Yep, i looked at Street Triple and XSR900 insurance prices. Was surprised to find how cheap the XSR was considering it's got similar performance, I got quoted $138/mo with comprehensive and collision. The Street Triple was about $200/mo more, not to mention the bike itself is $3k more. So running the math on a financed bike and insurance, the XSR is about $280/mo while the Street Triple is about $540/mo. Is the Street Triple really worth twice the price??
I had a '99 Ducati Monster 900 for about 10 years that I sold recently. Full coverage was Less than $200 a YEAR. Then again I'm 38, clean driving record, and live in a mellow part of the midwest.
You laughed out load on the XSR. That was enough to convince me which one I will be getting. Every review I've seen causes the rider to laugh out load and whooopee!. It was a close call but ....decision made. Great review. Thanks man. Great job. Craig - New Zealand.
Gidday Craig I'm also in NZ considering my next purchase. Its a two horse race for me between the xsr900 and believe it or not Suzuki's Vstrom 1000. The little Yam looks ridiculous fun, the suzi gives a lot more options. Im looking for a quote machine to carve through Aucklands traffic whilst having a bit of fun. The vstrom provides a nice screen to mount a phone/ Google maos behind it. As well as a good two up and luggage ability to get away with a girl. Decisions decisions...
After 12 years of racing, I wanted a fun bike for the road. The choise came down to these 2 bikes and the XSR won. The. Street Triple is a sports bike without a fairing, the XSR is a hooligang bikecwith a fantastic engine. The XSR needs an upgrade to the suspensio to be really great but is a lot more fun to ride at sensible speeds. If you want to do track days, get a proper sports bike and upgrade the suspension. If you want to have fun on the streets, gat an XSR or any KTM!
Different bikes, different missions. If you just look solely at the rider triangle it's apparent the XSR is not intended for supersport duty. It's a roadster. The ST is, for all intents and purposes a naked supersport. Which one works best for you depends on what you want to do with it and even then, personal preference plays a huge role. Both are very good motorcycles. One will feel more at home on the track.
Love that you're making videos with the XSR900. Got a sweet deal on a left over 2019 about a month ago so I like seeing some new content. I'm definitely loving it! Makes my R6 feel tame.
I love the look of the street triple and it really is a fabulous bike. But riding back to back had to buy the XSR900. The torque makes it so much more fun especially at lower speeds.
Street Triple: A 600-ish supersport, slightly inclined towards street naked XSR 900: A liter-ish street naked, slightly inclined towards supersport I'd love to get the MT (XSR would be more preferred but it isn't available in my country). But sadly, it costs around USD 30k here. Even R3 costs around USD 9k here.
Not sure about that, The Yam is super reliable, but the triumph finish feels more refined. Both quality, this RUclips review is spot on for differences.
You said that the XSR doesn't turn in as well as the 765 but it does, the one causing that is the tires. The Road 5 doesn't turn in as easy but when you're leaning, you feel locked in. If you rode the XSR with the stock S20, S21, S22 tires, it feels just as flickable as the 765. The 765 is very smooth, even smoother than the S1000R I rode. I currently own an XSR and I rode my friend's 765. I'm never getting rid of the XSR but I do want to add that 765 to my collection.
I had an xsr900, it was a great bike but I never had any confidence in the front end of the beast, I test rode the MT10 and instantly could tell there was a lot more R & D in the chassis, it felt so much more composed in a corner, front end was beautiful and confidence inspiring and because of that I’m guessing the street triple would be similar as it’s based off a sport bike too.

Just ordered my Street Triple R 2020 im counting the days to pick it up after my testride i ordered it directly, in all those years i was never that thrilled riding a motorbike almost feels like back in the days jumping out of airplanes ;-) greetings from germany and thanks for your great videos
Just had my 2018 STR RS delivered today. Ran it for a little over an hour. and its just as wonderful as I remember it from my test ride at the dealership. And learning its throttle and friction point was a lot easier than i expected.
Just got a low mileage '13 STriple675R and finally hit a mountain road. I get it now. This thing really carves when you weight it correctly and let the throttle do its thing. Of course, now I'm compelled to wear my Seamaster on every ride!
Bought an xsr900 and the abarth edition as a starter for the streets. (i have been riding off road bikes for 20 years but had no experience on asphalt) sold it at the end of the season. Not a beginner bike, too much power everywhere in the rev range, stiff suspension and the abarth edition seat-handlebar position was quite uncomfortable. Maybe several years later i will buy one again because of the looks and the lovely 3cylinder engine. I am riding f750gs since then and very happy with it.
This guy is getting almost 1,000 subs per day, keep it up! Noticed 3 days ago he was on 600k subs, yesterday 601k subs and today 602k subs, this is awesome..
If the triumph trident 660 has the street triple engine with better suspension and better breaks it will destroy all off them but without changing the look of it.
The fully adjustable suspension really makes a big difference for dialing in the bike to your weight. There is a lot of weight that can be trimmed too fo improved power/weight. And 1st gear is tall, hence same torque as XSR but doesn’t lift the wheel as much.
I'm about to choose new bike now and my two favorites are exactly these. I can tell you man, your video really didn't help me :) Both are such a great bikes. On ST RS I was just laughting, screaming and really enojoiyng incredible fun with XSR it was similar but more serious. The sound of the engine, torque and design of Yamaha, completly different story. I have two days to decide and probably only option is to flip a coin. Thanks a lot, when I saw your video I felt again emotions I felt on a test rides.

Triumph Street Triple 765 R was the good choice. ....i bought new one/18 and still on the roads + 3x circuit... Fast and still smiling, how much smooth and funny the bike can be in total counting.
I've got the Street triple R 2015 model and absolutely adore it! When it comes to build quality like you said, Triumph is on another level to the yamaha. It's my first big bike after having a mt125 and it's just so comfortable to ride, smooth... But when you get higher into the revs the engine roars to life its thrilling to ride. Re riding position, I'm 6'2 and I feel fine riding for extended periods, I would prefer a better seat, but that's addressed in the newer models after 2017. When I bought my Street Trip in 2012 it was really easily the best bike in it's class. I came down to the Ducati Monster, the Aprillia Shiver, the BMW 800 something (don't remember) and The Street. For me the choice was easy. I wanted a bike that would blast around country roads but still be smooth. At that time, the Street WAS the crazy bike. Now there are so many more choices. If I was making that same decision again it would be a tougher decision.
Ngl this chanel made me motorcycle enthusiat, and planing on owning motorcycle (after i get licence¬_¬) other that nice vids Yammie love the introduction.
Great review of these two great bikes...but it’s the MT09 (FZ09 to you guys) that was designed to compete with the street triple not the XSR900. I have ridden both Yamahas and I didn’t like the FZ09 much as it was too manic so I was worried that when I rode the XSR I would hate it but to my surprise it was much nicer to ride and less of a handful than the FZ09 and for that reason I plan to buy one in the summer 😎
As someone who had the 765RS and now the XSR 900, I can tell that beside the power and the triples they are not really comparable. I miss the RS but I would not want to give away the XSR.
Excellent review, rode both a while back and spot on info of both. Ended up with Tracer, same wolf in sheep’s clothing as xsr (it’s not a comfy lard arse adventure bike )same stonking engine and riding experience. Doesn’t have the great XSR900 looks, but with the screen and ability to add hard panniers if you want a trip. Very versatile.
Bayritto I agree, The xsr is cooool, initially fantastic on a test ride, but, after a while, that power without protection becomes tiring. The tracer is a manic sports bike ride when you want it to be, brilliant in the twistys with cheap aftermarket short shield no panniers. On longer journeys you have a bigger fuel tank, the panniers just clip on and I swap the short shield for taller, just 4 screws, and it’s tourer, but light enough to still have fun, unlike most adventure bikes.I did put a layer of extra foam in seat for a bit more comfort. I would still buy the tracer again, so versatile, but yea, around town the xsr looks great. If you spend all your time in town and no long superfast highways, the xsr700 is better? great fun and underestimated.
It’s so sad the front of the triumph is so disgusting to look at, they’re great bikes but I’d have to remove the whole headlight assembly to like it. Swap the 765 into the xsr frame and I’m in
I don’t like the headlights to, it looks really weard. The 2020 model is a lot better, butt still not great. The rest of the bike is just so good in everything that i bought a 2020 model. I compere it with the most perfect woman in every point of view, only she haves a big nose or something, i would still be with her en would never lett her go
I don’t like the look either. That said, the street triple isn’t a hooligan bike so it doesn’t really match my personality. I’d probably get a Ktm super duke(not 2020).
I have ripped up a lot of twisties on my fz09. Put a good set of tires and dial in the suspension and let her rip. I was actually surprised the first time I hit the turns. I somewhat embrace the way it rides and what and animal it is. It keeps the ride from getting stale
the XSR is a beautiful bike with an exellent riding triangle and effective low end torque, dont care much for high end on street. but Yamaha tends to skimp on brake quality and suspension adjustability. It should be much less expensive than the Triumph. I just dont feel Im getting my money's worth at this price. even though I prefer the XSR.
I owned mt09.xsr900.z1000.gsxr750.cb600f.cbr600r Now looking forward to stt 765 or mt10 Xsr900 is just an mt09 classic looking. Shock is way too firm.rear foot pegs is bit to hight for passenger.
I know there are slight differences between the XSR900 and MT09, but you were mainly comparing updates both bikes 2017+ have to the features of the 14-16 year FZ09s. Still love my 2015 FZ though.
Hey Yam, I really love the naked bikes that are out there and am looking at three different ones. The Yama MT09, Suzuki SV650, and BMW F900R. Any advice from the comments section would be cool too. I have a CBR600RR, but want to get a chiller bike.
I'm not Yammie, but here's my 2 cents. All three bikes offer lots to love, and there is no wrong choice. The sv650 will give you the most value for your dollar (they have been improving the platform incrementally for 2 decades, the result is decently refined machine, that has recouped all its R&D costs) it will have the lowest initial cost, and the lowest cost of ongoing maintenance, and the deepest aftermarket catalogue. Personally I stay away from BMW Motorad, because you get less per dollar (great bikes, great fit and finish, but I notice torque/power while riding, more than I fixate on panel gaps/guage materials) buying in comes with a BMW tax, and so does maintenance. As for Yamaha, you can't go wrong with a big4 bike. And if you feel like you need extra power for throwing your front wheel in the air, the 900 may be the right choice. It will cost you around $3k more than the SV (in Canadian dollars) and the SV has no problem chucking a wheelie, it just happens less by accident.
Hard to decide for one of them - i ride yamaha fzs1000, love yamaha, XSR is preety , - other side Triumph is European what make him a little more "special" than typical yamaha creation, and also interesting 3 cyl engine as in XSR. Both will be right choice for customers :)
Yammie, why not try a 50 cc bike next? Us from Europe aren't as privileged as you guys and sometimes have to be content with those REAL SMOL BOIS. Great vid btw.
Not sure we even have 50cc bikes here in the states, least I haven't ever seen one. That small is really only used on kids Moto bikes. Smallest street legal bikes I have seen are 125. Not sure how you would get around in the states on a 50cc as average speed limit is like 40mph. Not at all iregular to have a 50moh travel speed on main roads.
The Triumph triple is considered to have no low end torque compared to its twin brother. Is the Yamaha the same way? you have to get the rpm's high to get any torque worthwhile?
I almost bought the silver STR you got from RideNow two weekends ago until they told me it was a low ride height model! Glad I didn't fall the same fate that you did haha. Got a black 2019 STR instead and I absolutely love it. The traction control and wheelie control are combined and you can adjust the settings in each mode. Can't wait to do some riding as quarantine entertainment. Looking forward to more STR videos!
I test rode the 2020 R3 a few weeks ago and it was really fun. Really low seat height but I am 6ft. Was very light and east to flick into the corner and had no real unpredictable power down low but was still quick enough for some fun. I'd definitely say it was a perfect bike for a beginner and definitely good for a women :)
Sure this comment will get lost but I'd love to see an update to this video with the new gen XSR and Street Triple. I think these two bikes get cross shopped more than people think
love mt MT -09 loads of fun Rockous nature! But KTM just came out with a new bike that is going to push this class to the extreme its the KTM 890 duke R this would be a great bike to compare to these 2 bikes, its just as powerful but where it has a clear advantage its lighter than both these bike by a decent margin!
I tried the fz09 and xsr900 today. The fz09 i couldnt own it, it just goes jumping everywhere with that stupid suspension but the xsr900 was way better. I come from a cbr600rr

As someone who had the 765RS and now the XSR 900, I can tell that beside the power and the triples they are not really comparable. I miss the RS but I would not want to give away the XSR.
Street triple rs is the best in the segment. Period. No one can change my mind. I dream to get it before the end of this year.! Epic fucking bike!
Muscle cruiser is the Lexus/Cadillac/Mercedes luxury V8
XSR is Wyatt's mustang out in the barn shop
City Park Rd is another good one in Austin. Short but fun. I'd love to see a video about how to find good roads to ride on!
Are you happy with the Tracer overall? I plan to do some long-distance touring but can’t get away from the looks and vibe of the XSR900.
The sound of that Street Triple!!!
It’s so sad the front of the triumph is so disgusting to look at, they’re great bikes but I’d have to remove the whole headlight assembly to like it. Swap the 765 into the xsr frame and I’m in
I like the look actually.
DerpyDoug some people love it! I don’t see it, must be an ugly duckling type thing
They look like those bras of the same name
I don’t like the headlights to, it looks really weard.
The 2020 model is a lot better, butt still not great.
The rest of the bike is just so good in everything that i bought a 2020 model.
I compere it with the most perfect woman in every point of view, only she haves a big nose or something, i would still be with her en would never lett her go
I don’t like the look either. That said, the street triple isn’t a hooligan bike so it doesn’t really match my personality. I’d probably get a Ktm super duke(not 2020).
The xsr900 seating position with woodcraft 1 inch risers in the down position is perfect in my opinion 👌
Yammie ..... as you're clearly a guy who likes a bit of torque and a lot of fun, can I make a suggestion ........ test ride a KTM 790 Duke 😉
You could do a comparison between street triple and duke 790
The Duke 790 should be the next giveaway bike.
especially as he still hasn't ridden a 790 Duke yet ....
765 R and 790 no even in dreams. 890 maybe
Love the intro music, reminds me of Opus III from the 90s
I owned mt09.xsr900.z1000.gsxr750.cb600f.cbr600r
Now looking forward to stt 765 or mt10
Xsr900 is just an mt09 classic looking.
Shock is way too firm.rear foot pegs is bit to hight for passenger.
Update..just sold mt10.its so boring compare to mt09
Now look foward to ktm1290r
Thats how yall found Whitney!?!?!? Love her personality and her taste in bikes. I have the same bike but with a different exhaust.
The XSR900 gets its DNA from the FZ09/MT09, and it is notorious for hooning and gooning.
I know there are slight differences between the XSR900 and MT09, but you were mainly comparing updates both bikes 2017+ have to the features of the 14-16 year FZ09s. Still love my 2015 FZ though.
MV AGusta Dragster 800rr is a beast at 140 horsepower and just over 400 pounds wet. It should be a contender.
Very good presentation 🇬🇧
The bike to compare against that triumph is the MT09 SP not the XSR, the sportier version of both 3 cylinder bikes
I'd only ever consider trading my Street triple RS for a Rocket III or a Speed triple 1050. Triumph triples just sound so good...
303MoTo don’t trade it for a speed triple 1050.... 765>1050 except for cruise control, imu.
We love that boii!!!
The street triple R makes roughly 10 more horses on the Dyno.
Hard to decide for one of them - i ride yamaha fzs1000, love yamaha, XSR is preety , - other side Triumph is European what make him a little more "special" than typical yamaha creation, and also interesting 3 cyl engine as in XSR.
Both will be right choice for customers :)
They are selling 790s 890s and 990s locally now under 19k-12k were i live in PA
RUclips convention idea. Yammie Noob, Donut Media, and ThatDudeInBlue get bored inside and wander into the parking lot. 😂
You inspire me to tuck in shirt... before I do my motovlog 😁
12:49 absolute scrub-lord with that turn signal Yamster!
great review.
You should try the mt09SP which is the best version of the mt09 range
Not available in US.
@@FRWD_FXLRST oh really? That sucks man
No, i Tried the Mt 09 sp, boring riding position, feels like a mx/motard and very small👎Xsr more fun and sporty👍
Yammie i finally bought my first bike yesterday im so excited to ride
start slow and safe...enjoy
I would love to own both of these beauties......
But can you actually sit up on the Street Triple? Or is it totally uncompromising?
Yea both pretty nice. I like the low end power.
xsr 900 would kill that thing...Nice Comparison video bro.
these two bikes sound so perfect im shook
The 765r is much more expensive? Should have better suspension etc?
Is a Yamaha r3 a good beginner bike for woman? Im trying to find out but since you've rode one was trying to find out
I test rode the 2020 R3 a few weeks ago and it was really fun.
He still can't say XSR
Ex Ex Argh
love mt MT -09 loads of fun Rockous nature! But KTM just came out with a new bike that is going to push this class to the extreme its the KTM 890 duke R this would be a great bike to compare to these 2 bikes, its just as powerful but where it has a clear advantage its lighter than both these bike by a decent margin!
yammy looking for any reason to ride the striple. Literally rents an XSR900 to compare it to the striple so he can ride the striple more.
The Triumph looks better without a rider, the Yamaha looks better rider mounted.
Is the seat higher on the Street Triple 765? I thought the 765 was a bit lower at 32.5 inches vs 32.7 on the XSR900?
I tried the fz09 and xsr900 today. The fz09 i couldnt own it, it just goes jumping everywhere with that stupid suspension but the xsr900 was way better. I come from a cbr600rr
Hi Yammie, could you tell me which seat/tail is on the XSR? I think the taillight and seat look really well.
I have the two best muscle bikes... V-Max and the XSR900. The best.
I’ve been wanting to get a new bike. I think I’m bored with my VTX. I think I’ll just rent one instead and see how it does.
I'm considering the Street Triple or an MT-10 for my next bike
I bet that Street Triple sounds good even when it isn't running
When you talk bikes, you are not Noob for sure haha
Hi bro
