Thanks you for your comments! I do my best to keep up with them for the first few days after a video comes out, but due to the volume of comments on all of my videos, and to the general hustle and bustle of life, I must give up the fight after a while. If you are leaving a question four or more days after a video comes out I can't guarantee I'll see it, but perhaps one of my other viewers knows the answer and can help out. Thanks in advance to those who contribute and share their knowledge. Cheers and stay safe everyone!

Back in the day, I had a Yamaha XS1. I got the bike 2nd hand from a fellow rider. It was a 1970 model and talk about bare bones. Drum brakes front and rear, no electric start- kick start only, no gages or turn signals. I had so much fun with that bike. It had a 650cc parallel twin motor and put out about 50hp. I wish you could still get them bare bones and just add what you like.

Great review by a fellow Canuck!!! I have a 22 xsr900 and love it for all the reasons you mentioned. I was on the fence between the MT and XSR...when I heard the new XSR was coming to Canada in December of 2021 I called and was first in line on the wait list. I did not get it until August of 22. We'll worth the wait. Can't wait until spring!!! Love your channel. All the best in 2023!!!

The comparison is very similar to the MT09 vs the Tracer 900. The swingarm's length has a huge impact, and IMHO for the majority of riders simply makes it faster, because you can put that horsepower down to the road while keeping the front end down.

    • @DifferentSpokesTV

I bought my son the xsr125 as a learner , i was after another bike aside my Streetbob Harley and liked the MT07 it was good and price was good too, then he asked me to try the new Ducati Monster so i did and quite liked it and its a good bike all but a few little things that got to me, but that didn't matter as it would be his when he passed his test which he has. I then went and got the dealer to give me a 5 mile test ride on their new bike and i said yes this is the second keeper bike, Blue/gold such a nice machine to look at and ride, ok seats a little bum achey, and steering locks not there, this is where the Monster wins, but thats it in my opinion the monster engine is on your leg and 100 degrees in the summer you feel it, starting in cold XSR is on the button Monster takes like 3 goes to wake the lazy sod up. Basically tried the 900 as i loved the 125 so much even though its a new design and i did not get on with the XSR700 mainly due to the awkward key position and display reflecting the sun. XSR900 2022 model absolute gem just had 600 mile service today. Looking forward to another 50k or more until they ban petrol

Because I passed age 40 some time back, I'm probably an XSR guy. Alternately, I've sat on a Z900RS Cafe and that machine is very appealing, although being a previous Z900 owner, I don't like what they did to the cams, ECU, exhaust, and 6th gear ratio on the RS. The bubble fairing on the Cafe model would provide some smooth buffet-free coverage to remove a little fatigue, without looking like a dust bin or jacking up insurance rates with side panels.
Good review! It's nice to see a middle aged perspective on current bikes. By the way what is your height and inseam, if you don't mind sharing? I want to know about how folded up my longer legs would be on these models.
XSR fix would be adding about 1.5-inches of foam to the seating area (at least for taller riders). It would reduce the scooped look of the seat, unfold the knee bend somewhat, stop the butt from crying in pain, and make the one-piece seat look better overall I think.

I have the MT09 and find some complaints against it must have been left out of the one I have. Ridden normally the wheelie thing doesn’t happen. The fact you have good power everywhere makes it easy to ride.

I would go with an older XSR. 🙂

That xsr is crying out for a retro endurance style half fairing

that also requires clip-ons, like Suzuki Bandit 400 ltd

I agree. That, some clip-ons and the cowling on the back seat and it's the perfect cafe racer.

Do you think that the XSR might have lower insurance costs, since the hooligans doing wheelies choose the MT?

    • @DifferentSpokesTV
      @DifferentSpokesTV  Год назад

That would depend on your local insurance companies. A call to the local broker will answer that question or use an insurance calculator on their website.

For me personally, a year of full insurance was $1200 for the xsr900, $1600 for the mt09, and $1800 for the mt09 sp.

My 29 year old son-in-law (6’2” - 190lbs) owns the MT09. As you said be prepared to be on the edge all the time when you ride this bike. I am 64 years old (6’-175lbs) and own a Indian FTR 1200 RR. The FTR is heavier but is slightly more powerful and has amazing mid range torque. It is a lot less twitchy. If you like the power delivery and sound of a V-Twin - check out the FTR.

Love the FTR. I've had a ride on one and it had tons of character.

Nice video, I chose MT 09 because it offers more options. you can install panniers and with high windshield used motorcycle as super touring motorbike. if you want to sell it then you are more interested for regular mt09 than SXR version, it is accessible to the general public so do you agree with me?
    be safe

Sorry I think big fat lie "if you dont like MT headlight you can just change it" A lie I think because I see NO ONE offering any other headlight! SHOW us even one? One more thing about the XSR I just read that Yamaha Japan is offering a Cafe fairing for the bike color matched! The bad thing is it is fork mounted NOT the premium frame mount type which would be SO SO awesome!!

I strongly prefer the XSR-900. Except for saddle looks. Covering up the rear end does the job for me! (Like shown in this video). Thanx for sharing! Besides I picked up worse cases about the MT-09 saddle! So "looks" ain't all there is. ROMY.
