Both amazing bikes. Deciding factor for me was which bike I’d be most excited be greeted by upon opening the garage door… as good as the SP is she’d be a 6+ Pinter. The RS - worth staying sober for.
Striple is a supersport with handle bars and that's why i love it. razer sharp through corners and will reward you when you rev it. mt09 is a naked street hooligan bike.
I feel much like you guys do. Either bike is a great ride, they both look good and I love those triple engines. As to the MT09 being flighty, don’t let your right hand control you. You twist the throttle on the MT09 and you better be ready to rumble immediately. You can go to setting number 2 and will soften up throttle response to that of Triumph. I personally way prefer power to be immediately on tap not a gradual ramping up sort of delivery. If you have been riding less responsive machines, the immediate power delivery of the MT09 will take a while for you to adapt to. After thousands of miles on my 2022 MT09, she is as comfortable as a great pair of walking shoes. Rode the Triumph now a couple of times plus a couple of the others in this slot of bikes. First thing to come to my mind was where is the power and does these bikes have a fueling system problem. Everyone has a preference and expectations as to what fills their needs or comfort level. I wouldn’t change one thing about the MT09.
For those worried about wheelies on the MT09, that's what the wheelie control is for and it's very unintrusive. I set it so the wheel just lifts a fraction to add to the sense of drama.
@@fred3527 yamaha told that the mt were meant for wheelie. That's why he said that. Now if you want to go off road with an R1, go ahead, we just expressing opinions ;)
I own both a 22 Mt09sp and 22 Street triple RS. The review is spot on ! Triumph sportier , more stable … MT but more fun, torquey , comfy. Love each in its own regard as they are both simply amazing 🤩
since you own the striple. do you think its the best "sport" bike if you cant afford a 1000 like rsv4 etc but the normal 600s are just meh and a bit cramped?
I live in Japan and bought a 22 ST RS over the MT, best choice I’ve made. ST is a proper cornering machine so carving up all the twisty mountain roads on the weekends in Japan is way more interesting than just having more grunt for the straights. “Fun” shouldn’t just be used to describe straight line acceleration, I thought every motor journalist/enthusiast have already learned that from Mazda Miata/MX-5 multiple decades worth of success.
The Street RS with the throttle map on track makes a load of difference. Makes the throttle response much more immediate, and fhe power comes on a bit earlier in the rev range❤ love the video.
Had my 23/24 RS for over a year now and recently rode my friends 24 MT-09. Liked it a lot, but I prefer the riding position, handling and look of my STR better. The Triumph just looks and feels more refined.
Haven't been on the 09 but have a tracer 900 and the triple RS. The Triumph is one of the best bikes I've ever been on at any price. Proper motorcycle it is.
24’ MT-09sp all day long for street, RS for track. MT has torque, RS has rpm. But Japanese are more reliable & easier to get aftermarket parts & you’re not locked into proprietary dealerships.
Without experience on either bike - I feel the Triumph would be more "me" based off this review and (subjectively) I just cannot get on with the MT09 looks. The STRS in candy apple red please! Thanks for the video, Dan.
I was torn between the two, and I bought both. The street triple gradually unleashes itself in 3-4000- ish RPM where as the mt 09 is like get set and go. Both bikes are plush but RS scores a few points extra in build quality. Frankly, dollar for dollar or in your case pound for pound these are the two best middle weight nakeds money can buy. But I made a mistake in buying the mt 09. It wouldn’t have been a mistake had I not bought the RS. The xsr900 would have added a bit of different riding experience.
Yeah EBC pads for the win. Although I've heard they can cause binding in the calipers. Was going to get some for my Tracer 9 as the stock pads are rubbish!
The difference between a sporty naked and a naked sports. I own the 765, and shopped the 09. I preferred winding the engine of the 765 out and making it scream. Both are punishingly fast, I just prefer the howl of the 765 up top past 11
I have a 24 rs, probably one of the best bikes I’ve owned, rides nice through town and steady rides, get it past 7k and it’s almost like a power band, and on track it’s perfect, bragging rights is the moto2 engine, granted not the same tune, but the developments gotta be good.
Put a deposit for new SP but went to Triumph Dealer to check that yellow rs. I own rs now and its the best bike ive ever ridden. Forever bike. Now add adv and im set for life!!!
Tested both... loved both... similar in spec in a lot of ways but also very different. I bought the 09 SP.... mainly because I only do street riding and I think I just prefer rowdy and raucous over composed and focused. Also like how the wheelie control was seperated from the TC on the MT and not abrupt like it is on the triumph. Both have their plus's and minus's and I'd choose the best points of each for the ultimate bike... but I have no regrets at all with choosing the MT, I've lowered the bar risers to get more feel from the front end.. and fitted HH pads for more bite and its a lot better. It's all about the mid range on the MT. The only thing I'd love it to have is a bit more power at the top end of the rev range... but then it might lose a bit of its hooligan character lol, so maybe not.
Yes.. i had a ftr1200 and a bmw r nine t scrambler- same but different.. much like this review. Bmw was like the triumph- but the ftr was heaps of fun... and surprisingly, it is comparable to the mt09- a drag race is almost identical. Ps after 3 years ,i kept the scrambler.
Another wonderful review! Its so much better when you guys get to ride each bike back to back and then share with us the differences. Filming must've been so much fun 😂🤣 Thanks for sharing! Absolutely love it! ❤
I have an 09 and have tried the triple, it's feels boring to me, it's more stable and precise on corners like a sportbike but for street riding it doesn't give me any emotions since when you full twist the throttle it gradually gains power, MT is instant power at every rpm and that's a lot of fun. Actually my friend which has the 765rs is selling the bike to get the 09 after he tried mine 😅
Bro this video is full of Triple Fan Boys, most of them don't even have a bike and are talking shit about the Mt ... Like the guy saying that the Mt 09 wants to whellie the whole time.. i bet he doesn't even know that g3 and g4 have wheelie control... For the people who want to choose between this 2 bikes go try both, see by yourself.. dont listen to this fan boys commenting no sense... Good video as always Dan.
But since u have to mention wheelie control doesn't it mean it is a easy wheelie machine we are talking about? Everyone knows MT serie is a wheelie motorbike, street triple can wheelie easy too but there is kinda big difference between most bikes but MT9 is made for it. 😂 Triple has wheelie control as well, and that goes with many other bikes. It's funny u take it so hard about it. 😂
Cracking review 👍. I’m looking at a change from my 790 Duke, which seems more like the MT - squirrely at high speeds, so a test on the RS is on the cards
I was looking at both these for a while but ended up deciding on the mt10. When looking at the price difference; i figured i might as well get the CP4 and it is stellar. I have ridden a yamaha xsr900 which shares the same motor as the mt09 and the motor is really "buzzy" up high. Plenty of power mind you but i dont like my feet to vibrate every time i roll onto the throttle.
I mean, if you have the budget, great! £16k for a naked bike is beyond what I'd want to spend personally. This is why these bikes are great value. Stock MT09 for £10k. Bargain. Enjoy the MT10 though, beast of a bike! My Tracer 9 was buzzy, now it's done a few thousand miles it's bedded in nicely and a lot smoother.
Street Triple by a mile. I couldn't get comfortable on the MT09, and it's impossible to accelerate hard without the front wheel coming up. The Street feels like a proper sportsbike and will wheelie when you want it to, rather than when it wants.
Street Triple all day long ,I found MT09 fun but tirering it just wanted to wheelie all the time ,the Street triple was more confident inspiring well done Triumph
@@1990-t1j Yeah the bike is surprisingly compliant if you're gentle with the throttle. Sure it's a hooligan bike, but it also is civilised if you treat it with respect and don't thrash it around.
I have a Gen3 MT09SP and it's the punchy engine, comfort and reliability that I'm drawn too. The other day I observed a bloke on a Street Triple RS at a traffic light shaking out his wrists and trying to straighten his knees & hips. He was in obvious discomfort from the sportier riding position. I have no such problems on the Yamaha. I grew up on off road bikes, so prefer the up right riding position.
Both bikes look great in their own way, but the one thing that really annoys me about todays bikes, is the amount of unpainted black plastic that is on display, spoils the overall look, especially for the price you are paying.
I've ridden both. I feel like the MT 09 SP is a muscle bike (like a muscle car) and the Street Triple is like a sports bike (like a sports car). That was my impression of their differences.
@@Englishbikerdan Well fortunately, I can't afford either, so I guess I don't have to agonize over which one I would choose. 🤭😏😕 The 765 RS I rode though had a very clunking quickshifter. Everything else about it was flawless; I really loved it! I gather from the positive remarks about other people's experience with the 765's quickshifter that this may not be the case with all of them.
Wheelies are scary, agreed. That's why I decided to get the CB650R instead of the MT09. The CB is still plenty fast (as you know well) but without being terrifying. Maybe one day I will get something with more power but at this stage I don't see why I would need it. The CB650R has more power than I can use 90% of the time on the road and the other 10% of the time it's a hoot! It even handles a pillion with ease.
The switch gear on the MT is massive, why they have made the switch gear so big is baffling. I actually ended up going for the STRS over the MT despite my brother working for Yamaha on looks, chassis and brakes. I did 80+ laps of brands and loved every minute, even when I was tired it was so easy to ride fast! Also you get a seat cowl on the RS as standard.
Don't look at the Africa Twin then! :D I agree, the RS would be better on track, but that's such a small percentage of where I do my riding. So the MT wins for fun factor on the road for me!
I’ve owned a 20 street triple rs and while it’s a very premium machine, id never buy another triumph. I don’t like how twitchy it is personally. It was never as planted as I expected it to be especially at higher speeds, lack of 6 axis, and other ride nannies. The brakes were phenomenal, I loved the sound, but the comfort of my friends mt09 made me rethink it. I preferred my 790 duke to both of them.
Brilliant vid guys. I am a triumph guy. It's the all round package with Brilliant aftersales service. I have owned from the launch of the street 4 - 665's and 2 - 765's. Had speed triples as well but always went back to the street. Speed is triumphs hurricane but the street is the spitfire. And yes it can tour aswell. Taken it all round Belgium. End of the day no one makes a bad bike nowadays. Ride free and keep the smile on your faces
@@Englishbikerdan It really depends on preference imo, i actually really like it. It's definitely better the R version, but i do own an RS tho so that's probably why lol
Style 2 with the digital rev counter displayed is my go to when doing some spirited riding as you have gear, speed & revs all in a central vertical line. Otherwise I'll ditch the digital rev counter for fuel info or trip meter when just cruising. I take no notice of that unreadable shit show wing shaped rev counter in the background 😂
I've had the Street for 1.5 years & it's a fantastic bike, quality, performance, looks, brakes, got it all......but for me it lacks a bit of character, it's a bit serious....so I've been eyeing up the SP at my local dealers & almost decided to go for it!
I had the dichotomy of this same choice back in 2018, and my take away from riding them back to back was that they’re just different flavours of amazing and there’s no wrong choice to make between the two. For me the extra low end grunt and the delightfully flighty front end of the Yamaha, that inspires confidence and terror in equal measure won me over. However, the choice between them was fag paper thin, and the more sporty Street RS would have been just as good and happy choice. I’m still in love with my 2018 MT-09SP to this day and I can’t imagine getting rid of it.
Imagine owning both! The question I would ask myself walking to the garage would be, “how hooligany do I feel right now?”, by which the mt09 would be rolled out 😂
Just purchased a brand new 2023 model Mt09 SP and cannot wait. The only reasons I did not want a 24 was: at 6'2 115kg the bars are lower and pegs higher. No bueno. the new display is too large for me (I prefer small and clean and if I had the option I would have the gen 2 screen in colour as the prime option. The brembos whilst better than the Nissan/Yamaha 4 pots on my 23 it is not a huge difference I found and if you whacked some better compound pads in you would be pretty much on par to the brembos plus I never do track days. I prefer the 1 piece seat over the new 2 piece. I prefer the regulator in full view and the brake resevoir tucked behind the off side passenger foot peg. It ads to why I love naked bikes. On top of that I like the Ohlins on the 23 more because everything is packed into the Near side of the bike where as the new 24 has the control knob on your off side and the remainder of the unit on the near side.. I guess it is all personal prefrence. That is what makes motorcycling and motoring in general so fantastic in this life of ours...We all have different tastes.
As someone who just recently traded their 22 765 RS in.... Triumph hands down. I've had 3 versions of the 765 (1 R, 2 RS's) and never had serious engine, or other problems. The worst thing that happened to me was my clutch switch failing on my 22, fully covered by Triumph. Fantastic bit of machinery, and with a exhaust they sound like sex. I've got a buddy with a SP and it's a fantastic bike as well, just not my taste, i test rode a used FJ09 with a similar engine in it, and quite frankly I was bored of it.
Rode them both, liked them both... came down to I have 1 Triumph dealership 10 miles from my house, I have 3 Yamaha dealerships 10 miles from my house.
I love my 765 RS 2024 i went from a benelli leonchino 125cc to it, damn its smooth, got a mate who prefers the the mt 09 as its more aggressive on the engine, but also likes the smoothness of triples engine
I've sold my 2018 Mt09Sp for a Street. I do agree that although they're similar on paper, the're so different. I'd have kept both if garage space and funds where no problem. They truly are so different. I compare them to having an American muscle car and an Italian sports car. Both fast but which would you prefer? I like both actually but I don't regret my choice as I gravitate towards sexy sports cars.
I picked up a 2022 Striple a few weeks ago. I love it. My mate has the MT. We have swapped bikes a few times and both of us agree that both bikes are weapons around the twisties.
Never thought I'd hear someone describe a bike's looks as 'a bit marmite' and then both understand, and wholly agree with the statement Great video, I'd lean towards the Triumph on looks and temperament. The MT seems a notch to far on the wild scale
It's quite normal I think. We both agree it's a marmite bike, other disagree and hate the look of the MT. So I think that proves the point that the design is divisive?
I currently have a 2019 765 RS and a 2023 MT09. I have no idea which to keep but I must sell one. MT09 is more comfortable, has more tech (up down quickshifter, cornering ABS, slip control etc) but the street triple feels more planted. MT09 front end gets light all the time.
Versys 650 no issue with crushed nuts ,even with a 100kg rider on soft pre load setting on Aussie bitumen back roads . These bikes sure sound a bit stronger , but wouldn’t trade the Versys.
I enjoyed that, a good video. I get my 24 SP in 12 days time and I can't wait. Triumph is pretty, and looks very well put together, but these days I'll prefer low down grunt for top end revvy power. I agree with the earlier comment about naked sports and sporty naked, each to their own. I was giggling from the first to the last minute on my MT-09 test ride, it's such great fun. Certainly wouldn't criticise someone who preferred or bought the RS, it'd be really boring if we all had the same bike.
The street is why I chose the Gen3 MT09SP, after having the Gen2 SP for 5 years. I toured on both without issues, my max was 1200KM in one day with zero pain or discomfort. But I do wonder about the Triumph every now and then. I've had race replicas for 10 years before the MTs and I sometimes miss that scalpel like precision they offered. Not to mention the track where I really struggle with the low pegs and high bars, but I don't do that very often any more. I know the position is sportier on the RS but I can't judge by how much. I guess in the end I'll just have to bite the bullet and go for a Triumph to see how it works for me. I honestly worry more about reliability, dealerships and parts. I've only had Japanese bikes so far and never had any problems. So I guess I'm asking any Street Triple owners to give their feedback regarding touring and reliability. Thanks in advance.
Even if there was actual scientific evidence of the street triple being better id still buy the mt09. I cant understand how anyone couldnt appreciate an MT09 or MT10 bang for buck
First kudos to the cameraman. Footage really made these naked liters pop. My only reservations of the Triumph is reliability. I'm sure people will say its reliable but compared to the Japanese large brands it surely cannot hold a candle to them. If it wasn't for the Daytona, Triumph would not even be on my radar.
My opinion is that the triumph street trip 765 RS is will be a more useable bike in the uk especially with the all the speed cameras now and the average speed camera in Scotland 🏴 and from point of view the triumph street triple 765 RS makes more sense especially when most of the power is higher up the rev range because it’s possible to keep the speed limits more easily
It’s because the speed limits for different roads in Scotland are completely different from the those in England. A single main road or the road from Inverness to Perth in Scotland has two different speed limits and because 180 miles of the road is single lane each way only 25 miles of it are motorway and there’s a lot of roads like that. So the speed limit starts 50 miles an hour and then 60 miles an hour for cars and trucks. But caravans and things like that are stuck at 50 mph including anything with that is transporting animals and it’s a big problem because a lot of people get fed up being stuck behind a caravan or something like that or tractor is the other
It was a very good video it’s more like a proper road test that you’re doing with the your bike videos. Which is something that you don’t see very often even with the road tests off cars they are completely different now but the auto express and the auto car are the only car industry reviewer that does a proper road testing so you get a good idea of the what the car is like before you try one
I am guessing it depends on how the bike ridden as each person will do things differently from each in terms of how quickly they want the bike to get going
I was debating between these 2 for 2024 and ultimately the MT-09 has way more features including cruise control as the 1 main attraction for me and the seating position is better for me and ultimately the Yamaha is ions more reliable and has very long service intervals as well. 2024 MT-09 is just a perfect all around daily bike for me for all moods.
I am hell bent on mt 09 sp untill i looked at my skills and knew i need a disciplined gentleman like the triumph also once i buy either of this i will go peak level broke as i quit my job for a 1.5 year certification course recently so whatever i buy i cannot ride them hard cause if things go south i cant even buy a spare screw sets with my income currently😂😂😂
@@Honkomedes nah mate i once rode the mt 09 2019 i never even ridden my own bike for 2 days .... i need 2 level track certifications to really understand and control that mt09 the 2019 guy changed the forks and handlebar to a real naked position i felt it similar to current street back in 2019 so when i rode it again in 2021 after i got basic track certification on a race track against 2020 street triple i knew then and there that for my usage i really dont need the yamaha i am a lazy rider where i want a docile and sweet pooch under 4000rpm for lazy city rides and a mad mid to top monster and with great sacrifice did i decide on 2025 street 3 🥹🥹🥹 mofo got 2 o2 sensors now i cant replace 2022 headers with a yoshi exhaust
Have a '22 STR, so glad I got it before they ruined the display with that daft tach - mine has an analogue tach, big and dead easy to read. I couldn't get on with the Yam's headlight - looks like a dalek!
Also there's a choice from 4 colour schemes with the Triumph whereas the Yamaha only comes in one colour scheme as though the world hasn't moved on since the days when Ford offered the Model T in one colour! On the flip-side of that the Yamaha comes with cruise control as standard whereas with the Triumph it's a £310 plus fitting optional extra.
@@Englishbikerdan Nice. I suppose what Yamaha is going for with its SP models is that of uniform 'premium' look. That approach is so dated though. Plus the fad of having gold-coloured forks is already becoming a bit 'last season' and, some might say, looks a bit chintzy or chavvy! A neat user-friendly feature of the Yamaha is the remote adjuster for the rear suspension. With the Triumph one needs to get the spanners out.
Was thinking, you mentioned the difference in braking and the disc size but as far as I know the Yammie doesn't have steel brake lines and the Triumph does, makes a difference in feel as well, as do the chosen pads of course. Three variables that can cause a complete different feel, especially when combined as in this case.
I think all things being equal, the likely culprit at the larger discs on the trumpet. I don't think rubber hoses would make that much a difference on a new bike. Maybe in a few years though.
@@Englishbikerdan That seems to be the biggest culprit indeed. Different pads can help, changed them on my 790 Duke, made the brakes a lot better. But how you want them to feel is different for each person as well.
The difference in braking is mostly in the choice of brake pads and in smaller part the master cylinder. You wouldn't feel the difference in disc diameter, that's purely for heat dispersion
Normally I would buy anything with Made in Japan on it with closed eyes, but in this case I can't stand that hideous exhaust on that Yamaha and would choose the Triumph. Couldn't they just make it less ugly?
I agree with an ugly exausts on MT-09 SP 2024 although Euro 5-approved Akrapovic titanium is significantly more expensive. On th other hand, the MT benefits from superior fuel efficiency compared to the STRS, offering better mileage per liter. Though, I'm still trying to decide which one I should buy in the next Spring.
The Street Triple is basically a naked Daytona, a sport bike that competes directly with CBR600, GSX600, R6, etc. The ergos may be slightly relaxed from the Daytona, but to my mind it's still the same machine. I don't know a whole lot about the MT-09, but from what I've read it's really just a standard bike with sportier ergos. I say "just", but I don't mean to imply it's a lesser bike, just designed from a very different perspective. Both bikes are nice, but if I was to buy a new bike right now, I'd have to go with the Ducati Supersport. I had a chance to test ride one a while ago and it fit my body type and riding ergo absolutely perfect. And I already have a Daytona 675.
The brake feel could be down to the RS having braided lines to the SP rubber ones. We all know how much they make a difference when fitting a set of braided lines to a bike and I think that's what's happening here
I don't think they'd make that big a difference when new. Maybe once they were a bit older and the rubber hoses stretch a bit more. I still think it's the larger diameter discs on the RS.
The one thing that you didn’t mention was the price of the MT09 battery bike but the triumph triple speed 765RS is actually the same price as the Ducati monster which has similar sized engine that would have made an interesting video to see which one best between the 3 bikes
Brakes being setup similar between them (equipment, lines, etc), it's not a few millimeters of rotor. It's likely the PAD MATERIAL. A simple swap would make a big difference. Also consider bedding in new pads takes a bit, before full power can be achieved. It's likely the XSR900 would split the difference between these two, with more stability and forward posture than the MT.
Bigger discs will give more braking performance though for the same force through the lever, due to the calipers being further out. So I think this explains some of the difference in feel. I imagine the pad material would be very similar, as both systems are from Brembo and both had Brembo pads. Of course, we'd need a metallurgist to confirm and it could be wildly different brake pads I guess.
@@Englishbikerdan Bigger disc make a longer lever yes, but not the dramatic difference you feel between these machines. It's pads. Yamaha hasn't been putting aggressive pads on OEM bikes.
The Street has automatically turn signal canceling fyi. I'm a yamaha fan boy but now own the 2024 Street triple moto 2 and would never consider the MT09 over it. Also you should have ridden the Street on the track map it rides so much better as far as acceleration and throttle response
I was intrigued to see where this wentvas ive got the triumph, the yam im sure wasnt available at tge time. However i think id have bought the triumph on looks alone, its stunning also i have an fz1 in the garage too. As for the clocks, I have the screen with the digital rev counter so the only annoying part is the clock is too small, yes i need readers but thats a small niggle. Its also my first naked bike i have the fly screen but wind in my helmet at 50mph plus is a bit of an issue.
At 56 years old, I sat on the Street for 3 seconds and said NOPE! 🤣 The MT was almost there... until I sat on the XSR900. Goldilocks Moment... just right! Hard to beat the sexy looks of the Street, but the retro XSR does it for me. And the more stable-in-the-corners XSR swingarm paired w/ the motor. Can't go wrong w/ all 3, but give the XSR a try, especially if you're over 50 ;-)
After 27 years without a bike I started looking for another Sport Bike. I realized very quickly that any GSXR would be murderous on my wrists and back. I was really interested in the XSR900 as well as trying out the Aprilia Tuano and a few others. The Stripple wasn't even on my radar, but I have a friend who lives in England and convinced me to take a look. I ride several Triumphs and when stepped off the RS I immediately signed the paperwork. I'm 56 years old but can sit fully upright on it. Or I can push my butt back and dig into the twisties. I've had it over a year and it's simply a fantastic bike. But I do love seeing XSRs on the road and I'm sure I would have enjoyed it as well.
If you upgrade the stock yamaha metallic front pads to sintered, you may find significant initial grab improvements. Improved my '23 XSR900 anyway. Your mileage will vary.
Maybe! But my tests are stock vs stock. It would be interesting to know if the pads are the same on both bikes though. I am going to try some EBC pads on my Tracer 9 as those brakes seem to soft. Thanks!
Bought the Striple rs, so much fun in the twisties, and it feels more usable on the road, the MT is a great bike, but i didn't like the riding position, and it felt a bit like a bike I would get tired of after a couple of months
i have the RS and i feel quite the opposite regarding the riding position. i feel like my top half is leaning forward too much and if i'm not wearing riding pants, i would struggle to clinch to the tank when i ride, which is overall quite exhausting after a while. or i could be riding it wrong.
@@isaaccruel3994 Well we all got different bodies, I'm 185cm (6'1 ish) and I find the Striple rs very comfortable, well eventually My wrist get tired, but thats usually when I need to fill up fuel anyway. Got a '22 STRS myself, wonderfull bike, but I do like the KTM 890R more, it's way more playfull. So the STRS will go and I'm gonna get me a KTM instead.
@@Englishbikerdan I had a 790 with a lot of mods to make it a bit of my own R... Stuff like full titanium akra, ecu map, revalved forks, wave brake discs made the 790 a lot better. I loved that bike and the 890R is an even better bike. No regrets about the Street Triple, brilliant bike as well but as I mentioned a bit less playfull. I miss the torque down low and the playfull chassis. The MT seems to be more like the Duke ? Would be an interesting bike but I really don't love the looks of it.
So the biggest conclusion of the review "Don't marry, buy as much bikes as possible" 🤣
Yeah, very different bikes. Both fun in different ways! Thanks!

The striple has a good chassis, the Yamaha much less so, to put it simply.
For those worried about wheelies on the MT09, that's what the wheelie control is for and it's very unintrusive. I set it so the wheel just lifts a fraction to add to the sense of drama.
It's a decent system, although if people really don't want to wheelie, just don't get the MT. :D
@@Englishbikerdan Very binary view of the world. How many people who buy adventure bikes in the UK actually take them off road.
@@fred3527 yamaha told that the mt were meant for wheelie. That's why he said that. Now if you want to go off road with an R1, go ahead, we just expressing opinions ;)

Why not just control the twist of the wrist?
I own both a 22 Mt09sp and 22 Street triple RS. The review is spot on ! Triumph sportier , more stable … MT but more fun, torquey , comfy. Love each in its own regard as they are both simply amazing 🤩
Would you say the MT is more of a street bike and the ST more of a track bike? That's how I see both of them..
Yeah, very similar in specs but actually very different when you ride them. Cheers!
@@paulhope3401yeah Mt 09 better on the Street ✊🔥on track Rs 👍
since you own the striple. do you think its the best "sport" bike if you cant afford a 1000 like rsv4 etc but the normal 600s are just meh and a bit cramped?
@@Floxiiik absolutely 💯! I rode supersports for 25 years and the street triple feels very much like one minus low clip ons
Love my STRS, wouldn’t change it for anything
Great reviews lads 👍🏻
That's how it should be! Thanks!
I got 23k on my 2018 str only thing I’ve done is basic stuff and a valve adjustment like 4k ago she beats on mt09s all day lololol
@@FuriousGerbil5That’s good. But I ride 2 up a lot & definitely enjoy the torque of the MT 💪
Without experience on either bike - I feel the Triumph would be more "me" based off this review and (subjectively) I just cannot get on with the MT09 looks. The STRS in candy apple red please! Thanks for the video, Dan.
Fair enough! Thanks for watching!
Rode both, bought the 24 MT09 SP. Better ergonomics for the road, more grin factor regards the engine and Japanese reliability. No brainer for me...
Can't argue those points!
I have an ‘18 765R and love it. 116hp and spools up fast. First gear can hit 64mph and hits redline. Just under 18k miles and never an issue.
Very nice!
In love with my 2024 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS
I like your video's.
Me three 😂
I own an FJ-09, I am VERY much considering the RS in yellow. It's just beautiful!
HH pads on the MT09 and it's great. They do have the stopping power but they're just more progressive instead of on and off.
Yeah EBC pads for the win. Although I've heard they can cause binding in the calipers. Was going to get some for my Tracer 9 as the stock pads are rubbish!
@@Englishbikerdan How? Been using the EBC HH for 20,000km on other bikes without any issue..
The difference between a sporty naked and a naked sports. I own the 765, and shopped the 09. I preferred winding the engine of the 765 out and making it scream. Both are punishingly fast, I just prefer the howl of the 765 up top past 11
Yeah very different machines. RS is a goer!
Congrats! Fantastic bike!
Haha nice one Paul. Enjoy the MT, I'm very jealous!
Yes.. i had a ftr1200 and a bmw r nine t scrambler- same but different.. much like this review.
Filming must've been so much fun 😂🤣
Thanks for sharing! Absolutely love it! ❤
Thanks bro, hoping to do more of these!
Great video, lads. We live in such a good time when you can choose between lovely, sensibly priced bikes like these.
I just wish triumph would replace that terrible TFT dash. When they do that I might buy one when i replace my Hornet 🤔
Triple has wheelie control as well, and that goes with many other bikes.
It's funny u take it so hard about it. 😂
Wheelies and wheelie control aren’t fast lol kinda like spinning ain’t winning. Plenty reasons to choose a striple R over an MT bike.
Even with wheelie control on the MT, it can easily wheelie. That comment of the person saying “whenever it wants to” is literally spot on.
Both brilliant bikes. There isn’t a bad choice to be made here 😁
Cracking review 👍.
Interesting how different people experiences are! I love the wild nature of the MT.
@@Englishbikerdan Definitely, it's amazing how variety there is in the same segment
Street Triple all day long ,I found MT09 fun but tirering it just wanted to wheelie all the time ,the Street triple was more confident inspiring well done Triumph
You can ride it normally, although it's too tempting not to!
It only wants to wheelie if you're twisting the throttle too far. Control yourself.
@user-sw2lv3zp6o
I disagree somewhat, the bike is made with hooligan in mind. The Street Triple is linear start to finish, the MT09 is not.
@@1990-t1j Yeah the bike is surprisingly compliant if you're gentle with the throttle. Sure it's a hooligan bike, but it also is civilised if you treat it with respect and don't thrash it around.
@@gsm_liv8980 Tractable engine, I'd imagine. I like triples.
@@fred3527 agree✊🔥
I have a Gen3 MT09SP also and it's a real all rounder, sport, commuting even touring it does with ease.
Absolutely, the MT 09 SP is flexing its muscles while the Street Triple is busy doing laps. Both are thrilling in their own right!
@@Englishbikerdan Well fortunately, I can't afford either, so I guess I don't have to agonize over which one I would choose. 🤭😏😕
The 765 RS I rode though had a very clunking quickshifter. Everything else about it was flawless; I really loved it! I gather from the positive remarks about other people's experience with the 765's quickshifter that this may not be the case with all of them.
Defo street triple but wouldn’t mind having a go of the mt09sp
Nice, yeah both are great options!
@ the CB650R has 93.8hp and can be easily tuned to have over 100hp….

@@ho4rehouse i use wing, cant read shit but i think it looks cool💀
When you felt the difference in braking maybe it might be because the STR has braided lines and the Mt09 still uses rubber
Probably mostly the pads... fitting HH pads gives more bite.
Triumph has larger rotors. I think it's that.
I've had the Street for 1.5 years & it's a fantastic bike, quality, performance, looks, brakes, got it all......but for me it lacks a bit of character, it's a bit serious....so I've been eyeing up the SP at my local dealers & almost decided to go for it!

Ive owned the street triple RS before and then the superduke 1290. I feel like going back to the triumph. the RS is just a phenomenal bike
Thoroughly enjoyed that boys. Great craic and great bikes, the perfect watch! 👌🎥👊🏻
Yep, that was our experience. Both different enough. MT09 was the choice for me though.
Imagine owning both! The question I would ask myself walking to the garage would be, “how hooligany do I feel right now?”, by which the mt09 would be rolled out 😂
Just purchased a brand new 2023 model Mt09 SP and cannot wait. The only reasons I did not want a 24 was:
at 6'2 115kg the bars are lower and pegs higher. No bueno.
the new display is too large for me (I prefer small and clean and if I had the option I would have the gen 2 screen in colour as the prime option.
Enjoy your new bike! 👌🏍️

Dan, you need to do a custom rider mode on RS and switch throttle response to "track" for immediate effect.
For the road stuff I wanted both bikes to be in Sport mode. There will be a track test at some point though.
@@Englishbikerdan I've been on mine at Donnington. You will love RS on a track.
Nice mate! I can't wait.
Never thought I'd hear someone describe a bike's looks as 'a bit marmite' and then both understand, and wholly agree with the statement
Great video, I'd lean towards the Triumph on looks and temperament.
Street triple all day
Versys 650 no issue with crushed nuts ,even with a 100kg rider on soft pre load setting on Aussie bitumen back roads .
Spot on. We like what we like. Enjoy the MT.
And how you feel on your MT-09? Still you love it?
I'm planning to buy MT-09 in the spring, but I'm still hesitant.
You bring new meaning to the term "wedding crashers" LOL
Hahah yes!
Go for a test ride!
Even if there was actual scientific evidence of the street triple being better id still buy the mt09. I cant understand how anyone couldnt appreciate an MT09 or MT10 bang for buck
Me too. I wanted to love the Street but on the road, the MT all day.
Great vid, fun commentry
Triumph Street Triple Forever and Ever❤!
Interesting. I think the MT09 would be better, as the fun is lower in the rpm and you're not chasing the revs. But, we all like what we like.
Hm,, having ridden my RS for about 4 months, I'd not say that, LOL. The bike goes off like a jet.

Both great bikes , just can’t get past the horrible looking headlights on the triumph-Look like a cheap afterthought !
Same thoughts...
Yeah, on my MT09-SP review (coming soon) I mention that I'd like more colour options for the SP.
Oooh im a member of the 1 minute club 😂 love ya dan 😘
Have you been talking to my ex-wife? :D
@@Englishbikerdan pffff wtf Dan 🤣
Can you please tell me how you last so long
Was thinking, you mentioned the difference in braking and the disc size but as far as I know the Yammie doesn't have steel brake lines and the Triumph does, makes a difference in feel as well, as do the chosen pads of course.
A bigger disc equals more braking forces though due the the calipers being further out. They both have the same/similar master cylinder.
Which seat is softer?
Which one is more tiring when doing km? Vsss
Nice compaison. What is your opinion on which gen mt09 is best? I love the gen 2 looks but i heard gen 4 mt09 is peach.
I've only ever ridden gen 2 and 4. 4 is game changing imo.
Normally I would buy anything with Made in Japan on it with closed eyes, but in this case I can't stand that hideous exhaust on that Yamaha and would choose the Triumph. Couldn't they just make it less ugly?
Right? It's Awful!
Awfully easy to change out... 😅
Just change it lol aint that hard 😅
I agree with an ugly exausts on MT-09 SP 2024 although Euro 5-approved Akrapovic titanium is significantly more expensive. On th other hand, the MT benefits from superior fuel efficiency compared to the STRS, offering better mileage per liter. Though, I'm still trying to decide which one I should buy in the next Spring.
If you buy an mt09 or mt10 and keep the stock exhaust on you don't deserve to be on one
And this is why I think they haven't made a 'full fat' Daytona 765 as the Street Triple is that bike, without fairings.
Great review
I value reliability, so Japanese bikes for me everyday.
This triumph triple had been around for a while, they are reliable.
@@jdam28kThey recently had an engine recall that involves ripping the engine apart...
@@jdam28kKTMs had been for a while, too.
Doesn't mean much 😂
@@jamiepoole5193 I've had a 24 RS since March, no engine recall for me.
@@jeffwertz2953 Was a large batch of 23 plates...
A couple of school boys skiving school out on their bikes lol the street triple gets the vote a much nicer bike to live with 🏍️👍
May we never grow old or grow up! :D
Put up an MT10-SP vs a 1200 Street Triple RS 🤩
Speed* Triple
@@BlakeLarsen3 yep, woops.
The one thing that you didn’t mention was the price of the MT09 battery bike but the triumph triple speed 765RS is actually the same price as the Ducati monster which has similar sized engine that would have made an interesting video to see which one best between the 3 bikes
This was about the road test rather than price, as that's different in each country. Almost identical prices here in the UK anyway.
Yes I can understand that getting two bikes that are similar to each other
Brakes being setup similar between them (equipment, lines, etc), it's not a few millimeters of rotor.
Wanted both bikes in Sport mode for the road test.
@@Englishbikerdan track throttle response feels much better thou but I get it
I was intrigued to see where this wentvas ive got the triumph, the yam im sure wasnt available at tge time.
Excellent choice. Both are great bikes so you can't really go wrong!
Can't go wrong w/ all 3, but give the XSR a try, especially if you're over 50 ;-)
You know, I've never actually ridden the XSR900. I just don't get on with the looks.
@@Englishbikerdan Seriously. I think it looks way better than the transformer MT 09.
"Don't get married. Buy more motorcycles."
Yes sir!
Amen!
The best bike between the two bikes is the one that you are riding on at the time
Not so. 😎
Oh is this why you got upset? I was just being daft my dude. I should put more emoji's next time! :D
If you upgrade the stock yamaha metallic front pads to sintered, you may find significant initial grab improvements. Improved my '23 XSR900 anyway. Your mileage will vary.
I believe the stock MT09 redlines at 10.5K? Likely the Triumph winds higher, how high?
Maybe! But my tests are stock vs stock. It would be interesting to know if the pads are the same on both bikes though. I am going to try some EBC pads on my Tracer 9 as those brakes seem to soft. Thanks!
MT-09 sounds way better.
I agree!
Maybe spending 13 years on a Ducati 748 is the reason I don't like a to upright riding position 🤷🏻♂️ How tall are You?
The rs has a removable spacer, that will lower the rear 20mm, maybe that will help
@@allangrse617 actually that makes a bunch of sense i'm only 5'8 so that could be the reason.
@@isaaccruel3994 Maybe, if You have the opportunity, try out the Striple R, if it feels more comfortable, then try to remove the spacer on Your RS, it will pretty much give it the same riding position as the R version

Even standing stationary, side by side, the Triumph looks to be going faster!
Got a '22 STRS myself, wonderfull bike, but I do like the KTM 890R more, it's way more playfull. So the STRS will go and I'm gonna get me a KTM instead.
Nice. Mate of mine has the 890R. He loves it.
@@Englishbikerdan
I had a 790 with a lot of mods to make it a bit of my own R...
