The engineering is magnificent, but the bean-counters settle for cheaper, poor quality rubber seals and gaskets, resulting in leaks and engine failures.
Great videos and very helpful, thank you! I have a S63 in the middle of valve stem seal replacement. Engine in car, valve covers off, started to set time for cam removal with AGA tools. Rotating clockwise a bit reached a hard stop, short of reaching MP. Engine would rotate back a little, then stop when going forward at same place. Saw in TIS that it is OK to back rotate as long as chains were tensioned. Still had tensioners in place, so spun the engine nearly a full revolution backwards and achieved MP mark for crankshaft and all four cams are dead on with timing check plate. Interestingly, with timing tools removed, the engine will only turn a little forward and little backwards. Feels like a hard stop in both direction now. Ever seen something like this?
Hello, good afternoon, what is the possibility if the engine is tied up because a problem with the connecting rods has caused the engine head valves to twist?
Hey could you point me where to get all the torque specs for head/mains/rods/ and all the other relevant bolts. My s63 spun a bearing and I’m replacing the crank
Lucky owner that the engine isn't scrap. Really interesting to see this engine opened up, but please get a better camera and get some video skills. The camera is out of focus and moving around too quickly.
And wow i never saw a piston broken like that! So did the owner heard some strange sound or this was like preventive inspection? I mean that piston almost destroyed the engine
S63TU, Tasos! Love your videos! How many KMs on this engine? Very interesting to see the main and rod bearings so worn out. At the dealer it wasn't un common to see rod bearing issues. Also, I too love how BMW used actual gaskets. Unfortunately, with the B series engines a lot of sealant is used now, oh well.
I noticed this is a S63TU (F1* M*) based on the crossbank headers vs the S63 (E7* X*M) that doesn't have crossbank. Do cars usually have no cats on the downpipes there?
Hello, How common is it for an s63 to have a blown Headgasket? I just purchased one and the dealer diagnosed it as "defective Headgasket" I have been searching everywhere and no one has ever heard of a headgasket issue with an s63 I hope it is misdiagnosed
If you get a chance can you do us a favor and run a comparison video on M157 connecting rod with N63tu rods just to establish which rod can withstand more abuse.
CheckYourGear There are many M5 F10 which are running on this oil. I know few owners who are running M5 on 10w60 from many thousands of kilometers. If anybody if worry about usage of 10w60 then can use Liqui Moly Molygen 5w40.
I see you did not inspect at all the ccv under the cam covers ... I believe this is the issue why these engines consume oil more than required ... In no boost operation the vapours are going directly into the engine inlet ports through some channels in the heads ...
Tasos Moschatos I have a 2014 s63tu engine and it started drinking oil heavily ! 1L at 250 miles and I wasn't comfortable with the amount of oil that it drinks all of the sudden ! I have started investigating with a friend of mine and it turns out that when we removed spark plugs on cylinder 7 it was lots of soot and oil residue on the spark plug , damp ! We then managed to insert a scope camera inside the cylinder 7 and found out that the cylinder wall is all porous at the base of the cylinder, lots of tiny little holes at the base (when the piston is in the bottom dead center) 10 mm high 40 mm long portion of holes !!! Why would that happen ?! I heard the sulfur in the fuel may damage the cylinder walls ?
The car has 73k miles the cams are perfect , no wear at all however he cylinder walls are damaged (no vertical scratches from the rings but small little holes here and there ) cylinder 6 as well not as bad as 7, also some holes on cylinder 5 just started forming holes here and there . I'm stunned how can a V8 block from M5 develop such of damage ? Full BMW history , I had it for 1 year with no problems (2nd owner) the car only started to loose oil more than normal 3-4 months ago !!! I was topping up 1L 250 miles ... Jeez
I am amazed that didn't destroy the cylinder. Great video btw.
Love it or hate it. BMW engineering is magnificent! As complex as this engine appears to be it is nothing short of a MARVEL!
The engineering is magnificent, but the bean-counters settle for cheaper, poor quality rubber seals and gaskets, resulting in leaks and engine failures.
The turbo boosting as ringtone is so awesome
What is the cost of this rebuild?
Great video of this beast of an engine. But the camera shake got me dizzy 🥴.

What oil did owner of engine used? Also what oil viscosity and brand would you recommend?
Amazing. With what degreaser did you wash the engine block? I can't wash it like that with the degreaser I use. Thanks a lot!

Do you happen to know the dimensions of the engine?
What brand/weight of oil do you like for that engine?
Hi. When cranckshaft and bearings is damaged you change oil thermostat or not?
That coyote though!😍
Isaac Rodriguez hi, actually there are 8. ruclips.net/video/E0d57UYd-ug/видео.html
8:11 звук двигателя, такой говорит S63, смотри я наваливаю
Very helpful video.
Is the audi 4.0 v8 better or worse than n/s63?
Amazing video man, thanks a lot !!! keep them up
And wow i never saw a piston broken like that! So did the owner heard some strange sound or this was like preventive inspection? I mean that piston almost destroyed the engine
very nice video
Tasos, how much does a job of this magnitude cost? Interested in having my s63 engine rebuilt
What is ur car? X6 m?
Emin Sergi, It is a 2012 X5 M (E70). s63 engine.
@@MrUkielover lol One of my homies has a 2012 X5M with about 115k miles that he drives hard all the time. I’m surprised it hasn’t needed a rebuild yet
The N63 rebuild in his other video cost around 13,000 EUR. This would more or less be the same.
@@frederiquekruger4818 Just had my s63 rebuilt. $11,000 for the rebuild & another $4000 for removal/ installation.

Am i seeing good or the intake and exhaust valve diameters are the same? Shouldn't intake valves be bigger in diameter??
Is there any deference from N63 engine, because what I am see it has same N63 engine block, can you explain if it has any deference, thank you.

Been working on these for 10 years never seen one with a bad head gasket
Use a feeler guage to remove the rings so that you don't hurt yourself
Is number 8 piston rings cracked ???
Do you remember if an injector failed melting the piston ??
2JZ as a ring tone... lol XD
one man one engine

The "hair dryer" you use it is called heat gun :)
IS the engin to transmission bolt patern same on s63 and n63?
What's up with that coyote in the back?
Good video 👌👌👌
Dear Tasos, hope to find you will . I need s63tu flywheel do u know where i can get it in uae?
Really cool videos. Subscribed.
What type of oil is good for S63B44TÜ engine?
Liqui Moly 10W60 changed every 8000 km

maragrine
the best one is Polymere oil 5w40 or 0w40 depend of where you rpm.
@@mbgtcentre9291 pls a place like Nigeria wish oil can I use for BMW n63 2008 thanks
Btw this is Devin 🙂👌
It's heat gun!
What engine block is this ?
How many Km did this engine have?
Por la voz pareces español ? Estoy en lo cierto ?
Is this the 4.0L? This JUST came out in the S class and ppl are already blowing them up! 😂
Christophe Johnson hi, it's BMW S63 engine, usually I'm writing the engine code on the video title. Thanks
Tasos Moschatos haha sorry. That’s true you usually do. Duh. 🤪
Perhaps a cultural thing or maybe it’s safer: keeping a record of what you find so that the customer believes you…..
f10 M5?
Yes
Was this a stock or tuned Engine?
They call it heat gun ( hairdryer )
Just curious from your experience if these engines are great and reliable??
Chris c fuck no.
they are if you change the oil every 8000km and do not floor it when it's cold.
@@jokerash Over-revving cold engines is the worst thing people do. Next comes lack of maintenance.
the crankshaft bearing arent good calculated just that

vlad bozantan because you didn't see it on the video this doesn't mean that I didn't check it, I took it apart and I clean it like always.
