Did a quick search of 2013-2015 sub 100k mile brzs that are within 500 miles of me (Philly)….there are 10 on Autotrader with a manual. Only 1 was near 10k (10,700)….had rear end damage a fugly new hood and looked rough. You’re looking at about 15-17k for a decent older one. It’s very easy to unplug the artificial engine noise generated (ASC) by removing a single trim panel in the passenger door jam. It would be nice if it was a setting in the head unit instead. Agree the steering is a disappointment. There’s also a well-known issue that the power steering is overwhelmed and cuts out at higher lateral G. I experience it every lap at Sonoma and Thunderhill East even on low grip tires and stock suspension. These Brembos are an absolutely fantastic deal. I have the AP Racing front BBK on my 2022 BRZ, but I would be perfectly happy running this Brembo set (and for cheaper than the front-only AP Endurance BBK). An oil cooler is a pretty easy-to-add aftermarket mod, but if it came from the factory it would be very cool if they added one with active shutters. If they had a fix for the pressure drops on FA24, I would expect them to bring it to all trim levels!
^^^ This guy knows a thing or two about the ZD8s. I wonder if the difference in steering feel has to do with the front knuckle? Didn't Subaru change from aluminum to iron in the 2024s? Personally I've been waiting for the BRZ tS since August and ordered one as soon as I could in December. The factory brake upgrade and blue interior accents with blacked out center console are worth the extra price to me.
@@jaron95 I believe only the TS is using the cast iron knuckle (but other ‘24s will use aluminum) because it allows fitting the harmonic weight with the Brembo brakes. My ’22 uses an aluminum knuckle. I think most of the steering differences between the GR86 and the BRZ are due to the EPS tuning. The BRZ is weighted heavier but for some reason the EPS seems to cut out earlier on the BRZ than the GR86, despite less assist. All things considered, I think the TS is a great deal!
the car does have a factory oil cooler, its an oil to water cooler that was a fairly popular mod for the first gen cars. its not an amazing unit, but it helps warm the car up faster and stay cooler overall.
@@BeastMode1210 Yeah I’m referring to an air-to-oil cooler. With the factory coolant-to-oil heat exchanger, it’s to exceed 270° F on the track. Even if modern synthetic oils can tolerate that, it reduces the viscosity of the oil significantly.
Factory mods sometimes make sense. Rather than spending an extra $5000 on a stock BRZ, you can upgrade to similar, if not the same parts for $2600, in lieu of the standard equipment that you would have had left over and sitting around after the mods. 🏎️
The things is also that not everybody can (or should) mod their vehicles, especially the brakes. I'd rather these things come with proper brakes from the factory than some idiot cheap out on the brakes and hit something, all in the name of saving a buck.
I spent my limited funding building the cheapest 4x4 I could 20 years ago. 20 years later I bought a Wrangler Rubicon that comes stock with every mod I wished my 1988 Bronco had, with a warranty 😂
@@lbgstzockt8493The standard brakes are fine. SCCA Touring 4 requires stock brakes and the guys that race that class have no problems with just changing pads and fluid.
I ordered a tS after selling my MY02 AP1 S2000. The S2K was fairly heavily modified for track days, which made it kinda useless as a DD. The BRZ is going to be a DD for 95% of its life, with very occasional track play days. It will also fit my gravel bike and my wife and I can go away for weekend road trips and actually pack more than a toothbrush. Even stock, the BRZ is likely faster on the track than most drivers are good. At my local track, here in Ontario, the guys and gals with the biggest grins are those driving underpowered cars to the limit. If you want to learn how to be fast, start with a Miata or BRZ. As my old instructor said, 'First you get smooth, fast comes all by itself.'
The WRX is also only about $2k more in Canada than the US, so similar deal after factoring exchange rate. The WRX TR is only $44k CAD (though that's still expensive due to Canadians having relatively less buying power than Americans but I digress)
If you want one Get the 2017-2019 BRZ RS (Canada) Performance Package (USA) That was the best daily driver / track BRZ The dampers and brakes were amazing factory mods I love mine
If i were to buy a subaru its either be a GC8 or this thing in this specific facelift, it looks so good and it always catches my eye from how good it looks
Thanks guys for the update. Appreciate knowing that you are noticing the differences with the tS in terms of steering and ride changes. I'm glad I pulled the trigger on the Limited instead of waiting for the tS. BTW.... something wrong with the video.
I was such a massive car guy for my entire (32 yo) life, like you all, but this is the first review i’ve watched in months. Affordable (new) car enthusiasm is largely extinct and it has made me resign to the fact that I need to let my passion die 😢 I’m lucky to have great public transit, but affordability and my own outlook has made it impossible for me to even maintain my E30, considering I need a garage to keep it on the road which I cannot, or likely ever, afford. I’m having good fun with electric micro-mobility, and believe it’s a far more enjoyable way to get around a city, which is such an un-fun environment to drive. I’m bitter that I’ll never live out my motoring dreams, but my limited money going into this rather bleak future is better spent elsewhere. RIP motoring passion.
I hear you, friend. My car was recently totaled out, and I'm so sick of people driving so dangerously in traffic, I just bought an ebike. Commute takes a bit longer, but so far, I'm happier and safer. And the money saved, I can put towards other stuff
Is this some kind of an attempt at a psyop? There's no chance car enthusiasm ever goes away once it gets hold of you, sure it can get expensive and sometimes it doesn't always go according to plan but a true enthusiast never throws in the towel. There's plenty of affordable non-new fun cars out there that don't rot, I really wanted an NA MX-5 but I don't have a garage and the salty UK roads in winter mean that I couldn't use it as much as I'd like, so I actually ended up going for a 986 Boxster instead. They don't rust like the MX-5s and they're more comfortable to daily and the running costs aren't bad. Don't give in, just adapt and keep driving!
All these TS reviews, are really making me happy lol. I ordered a base brz as I plan on if I change anything, I can do it without worrying about “well i paid for these upgrades” and all these reviews are telling me the base is better then the TS if thats what you plan. I can still change mine, as the dealer hasn’t placed the order yet (im 1st on list, and it should be placed early april 🤞) but I think ill stick with the base. Was originally going to be a 2023, now i get a 2024 with eyesight and all. Thats cool
From the UK and 6 months into a now ended ownership of a GR86. The best cars out there under 30k ($40k) full stop the end. Some people go, well for another couple grand you could get an older cayman or whatever. No, get the 86/brz and throw that couple grand at the car in mods. because holy hell with some small tweaks; exhaust, engine tweaks. These cars become absolute hoon machines. There is a reason there is a sub 30mph traction button. You can have soooo much fun at under 30mph kicking the rear end out a T junction and so on. Fantastic machines, will absolutely miss mine.
I have a 2023. The Cusco steering rack bushings gave the steering a bit more feel. Cusco also sells various front end braces that are supposed to help steering feel. It doesn’t feel quite as good as I *remember* my first gen BRZ felt in the steering department, but much better to start.
I think what Subaru should have done for it 1. Work on brake feel: add bigger master cylinder like they did on WRX TR, might as well throw 6 piston brakes 2. Retweak the steering feel: again as they did on WRX TR but better 3. Put on STI functional accessories like lateral link set, v bar, draw stiffener, spoiler, forged wheels, short shifter, shift knob. 4. Suspension tuning as they did on tS but more efforts 5. Exhaust 6. 4.3 final drive
1:11 is spot on. My local Toyota / Subaru dealers are on the same plot of land, drove them back to back and wanted something that felt a little more sporty and ended up with the 86. When looking at things like an M2, M240, M4, Supra, Cayman, Corvettes, they all felt a little numb as a street car at the speeds I drive 99.9% of the time on tertiary back roads where you spend most of your time in the 45-55mph range due to how tight, twisty and limited viability.
That's a really going point to think about. I don't track at this point, but even if I do get to, I'm on twisty back roads and getting through traffic 99% of the time. That's where I need it to be its happiest.
sti is simply the tuning division of Subaru. In Japan it is really common to have those sti badges all over everything. Hell, they even make an STI brz that is not turbo'd.
Yeah, I don't get this type of extra engine noise if the engine sound is not good by default. And that's the case with most 4 cylinders, they just don't sound good unless they are in some super aggressive race cars (i.e GT500 class, Mazda DPi, Porsche 919)
@@Willbrsethis car can actually sound decent enough i think with an aftermarket exhaust because a boxer sounds a little better than a i4 in my opinion
My 20 year old son bought a new 2022 Gr86 2 years ago. Coming from his old man that has had his fair share of sports cars over the years, his GR86 is by far the best sports car you can get for the money. The looks and handling are spot on, but of course, only with a manual!
2014 BRZ owner from new here. The TS to me is a model you get if you're not looking to mod like for people under lease plans that don't allow mods etc. I prefure the OG model for being lighter and having sharper handling and steering feel. My own journey 2014 A/T White - Cusco 4.556 FD ratio, Aluminum drive shaft, Tein Flex Z coilovers (lowered 1.5 inches) + active damper system, Sti V-brace, Sti draw stiffener, TRD door braces, Crawford power blocks (intake runners for more low down torque), drop in performance air filter, 17x7.5" Enkei RPF1 wheels with PS5 215 rubber set to neg 2 deg camber all round, full stereo upgrade with new speakers, amp and sub along with Apple car play head unit completed with a very light sprinkle of STI bling. No body kit and no wing but with clear TOMS' brake lights. This car is a keeper for life. More than enough power and sound with stock engine and exhaust in a 1200kg package.
I appreciate what they did for the little bump in cost. If you live somewhere further away from a good shop and you don't have a ton of tools, you can pick this up and have a great vehicle without wondering how you'll modify it.
So glad I unhooked the engine noise on mine. For autocross I don’t need the brakes and I agree with you about the dampers. If they offered this on the base model and lightened the car a bit perhaps it would be more interesting.
I was checking these out at the auto show after having owned a 2013 FR-S for two years. I still like the look of the original although I hated the engine, but they've totally killed the utility in the new version. I could put the rear seats down, pop of the front tire from my road bike and just toss it in the trunk. There's barely a trunk opening now!
Wow, I didn’t expect Eyesight to impact the steering. Thomas, is the steering really worse than the ‘22/23 versions? I think you were implying that. That’s a bummer if it’s true. If that’s the case, I’m really glad I have a ‘23 version. Also, the stock damping feels pretty perfect for the road, too. Since the new Hirachi dampers seem tuned for the track, why not just add some other small options to complete the package as Thomas suggested: an oil cooler, some aero bits, bracing, better tires, etc. You don’t need to focus on the obvious oil starvation issue-it’s the track version, lol! :)
Mighty Car Mods done what Subaru should of done they done a build from stock to air flow mods to a turbo kit install...they done a tune every stage to see gains at each point from stock....please show Aussies some love and view....In Australia these are massive getting people into drifting being affordable still modern in the second hand market....
My problem with the BRZ tS is that its half baked. And the STI badges all over it are sad!!! Like Subaru... will you guys just go ahead and turbo this thing and give it the proper STI treatment!!!! We dont have much time left for internal combustion engines anyway!
And then you turn a $30k rwd sports car into a $40k sports car that still has an oil starvation issue.... If you want one with a turbo, turbo kits exist as low as $4500 and gives you at least 80hp more.
I really hope Subaru never does that... If anything this needs an NA honda k24... Please stop saying this "it needs a turbo" nonsense over and over again .. Subaru might get some ideas and ruin the thing
@@Flatsixfiesta- agreed. Also - the earlier comments are off - this is a 32k car that likely would be 45k if they did a turbo (brakes and other mechanical upgrades would likely come with the turbo). Absolutely would make it faster, but I doubt it would make it better. Acceleration bros should get the Supra or a Camaro or mustang and leave this proper sports car to the adults.
They take a trip down to CA, visit a few dealers and grab a few interesting things, shoot a bunch of clips over a couple of days and then release those clips over the next few weeks. Rinse and repeat.
Good news now with synthetic engine noise being piped in through the speakers on many cars is that you can have "Thomas and James" as your engine sound.
As an owner of a very early production 2022 BRZ owner I would not trade my car for the TS. I have heard too many complaints about the "upgraded" suspension. The Brembos are just for looks really. These cars are so small and light you do not need massive brakes. Slap some better pads on a base or premium model and some good fluid and they will stop just as well as those show off brakes. And last..... Eyesight. I do not want it in my sports car. All 2024 models have it and that makes me extra glad to have the 2022.
Have a TS. Have a 13 FRS. Steering is lighter on the TS, no doubt. But the car is amazing. Drives amazing. It does not need anything else. And I have owned 40+ supercars/sports cars in the last 20 years. C8, RF miata, 29 corvettes, etc. And this TS is one of the best cars I have ever owned. Period.
Wow! Thanks for such honesty! Truly humbling to grace us with your honesty. How can you "really like" this over the normal BRZ? The changes are so extremly minimal and mostly technical adjustments, nothing that the average joe can even notice/see/feel.
@@slonkijippiethe appearance stuff alone is enough for some people. With the big brakes & better dampers I can see why somebody woukd desire this over standard. I'm personally indifferent
Guys, opinion. The level of engine sound fed to us in this video is one of the best examples in a driving review I’ve ever seen; if not the best. MOAR!
What I've learned from owning a bunch of old mustangs is to completely ignore what the "mUsTaNg cOmMuNiTy" says or thinks. Sporty cars attract a huge variety of people and half of them are great. The other half of them are better kept at arm's length.
Everyone complains too much! These cars (first & second gen) are amazingly well balanced, and great daily's. Yeah, they're not going to dominate the track stock. But they will make you look forward to your commute. If you want a turbo, AWD track weapon, build one! That's the point of cars like these. Manufacturers have realized that people won't pay the premium required to make track versions of regular cars. Which is why, when they do, the cars are low volume & extremely expensive. Conclusion: If you want to have fun in a rear drive, manual car, and not have to worry about what it's going to cost when something breaks. Buy an 86/BRZ or (concession for James) a Miata. If you want a track dominant, quarter mile consuming, Beast... Crack open your piggy bank, brace yourself for the bill, and buy or build one.
You could dial in a KW V3 coilover set to be much more comfortable and smooth for daily use than the stock suspension (which is not very compliant IMHO).
I really wish subaru had kept the 3.0 H6 and put it in this car. What was the point of developing a 6 cylinder engine that fits in the footprint of your 4 cylinder engines if you never put it in anything cool? Plus all that extra torque low down would be amazing on this platform.
That engine was extremely heavy and thirsty. The car's handling would be completely ruined. And realistically the BRZ makes about 240hp. The H6 only made 256hp although with better torque. The H6 was not developed as a sportscar engine, more of a work duty engine. My mom had one in her Outback. It did sound much nicer than the 2.4 in the BRZ!
A turbo would put this car into a price category where the rest of the car just wouldn't stack up. Nobody is gonna pay near bmw 3 series money for an interior like this
I literally thought the same thing about this exhaust and engine sound XD I heard one at autocross that just sounds gnarly. I think it really has potential! Great review
Instead of a tS version, I would love a BRZ GT where they swapped in a version of the EZ 6 cylinder engine modified for a higher redline, preferably still using the direct and port injection system from the FA24, as well as their variable valve timing. That would solve the power problem for all of the people asking for a turbo without introducing turbo lag, while also dramatically improving the exhaust note. If I'm not mistaken, the EZ36 is also less of a weight increase over the FA24 than adding a turbo, intercooler, and related piping would be. I also would love a liftback instead of a trunk so that I can fit things in it easier, but that probably won't happen until a Gen 3, if ever.
To speak on the Miata v BRZ question: I feel like the Miata is for the person that just wants to enjoy driving in all scenarios regardless of how fast youre going and doesnt really care about the track, wheras the BRZ is better suited for the racetrack and for someone that just wants to go fast. If you're a road guy, get the Miata, if youre a track guy, get the BRZ
@@mattmcbee7109Has actually been fixed by Verus Engineering and @900BRZ now. High capacity oil pan was the solution, but then again that requires modding. Just get a first gen, overfill the oil by 0,5l (1/2 quart) and throw it around instead :P
It would've been cool if they got a hold of the '24 GR86 trueno edition and did a video with that and James' AE86. I agree though it's just a cheaper way to get a big break kit, depending if the dealers don't jack up the prices 😮
I own a 2015 BRZ Aozora Edition (tS in Japan at the time) that comes with an STI push-button start and an upgraded suspension with all of the blue stitching, leather and the alcantara. SO much for a BRZ.. but such purchase would make you think about keeping it low mileage and keeping it stock and clean as an option in the garage, maybe an exhaust and a nice set of wheels would make it more interesting. More like a car to collect because everyone modifies them. Some day someone would want a bone stock good looking little car that also has a special interior and driving experience. Mine is one of 200s in North America (half World Rally Blues and half Whites). At the time I wanted a sport-tech but got the special edition for the same price, and till today it's as clean as it came out of the factory. In my opinion this tS and this generation 86/BRZ in general is not as good as the first gen. I would never sell mine because it is such a great car to drive.
love the vid guys, can you do either a full review or quick review of the wrx tr? i heard that the subtle upgrades made it not a lot but noticeably better, Thanks!
A new set of these exact calipers from a parts dealer currently cost $6,500. You can get a clean low-mile set of Brembos that will work for $1,500 or less.
Q: are the engines in the turbo cars different than stock? Like, the STI engines had reinforced pistons and stuff to handle the compression, didn't they? But what about the base WRX engine? I ask because, warranty be damned, I'd immediately slap a turbo on the BRZ unless it would crumple...
Would love to see the basic BRZ driven back to back with this tS. IMO, the price bump feels steep to go to the tS, but that is because my '17 Limited could be had with a "Performance Pack", that was only at $ 1200 adder. That included the Brembo brakes, different (I think half an inch wider) wheels, and SACHS dampers. I'm intrigued by the power that this new gen makes, but not impressed by so many reviewers pointing out that the steering has lost something. The RTV problem doesn't help either.
Got me a 2016 BRZ and I'll be keeping it. They just haven't improved the newer models in any real way. The FA24 engine's HP/TQ bump is nice, but it comes with an oil starvation problem. And I don't like the second-gen's styling changes. If they fix the oil starvation and give us a turbocharged engine, I might reconsider.
Got one, love it, wanted the brakes from factory … less insurance hassles. You can get them as automatics in Australia and the Australian trim is maroon like the Japanese model.
Keeping as a daily driver then this option seems seems like well... A good one. Also I'm glad you can turn off the piped in engine noise. For the few cars that can't that is almost a deal breaker for me.
The question that I have is, if I would want to buy a used one, and only mod I would do over time is tires (be them new PS4's or other brand), which would you recommend for daily/weekend car, no track, just city & highway/backroads? The GR86, the normal BRZ or the tS model? Also, as a disclaimer, I like more grippy stuff rather than too tail happy. Especially since I do quite a lot of highway drive. Thanks in advance and as always, amazing review & production quality!
Finally someone tells the truth about brz/86’s bad steering. I went from a 86 to a camaro ss 6mt. The camaro is much better in pretty much every way except for maybe visibility. The steering, shifter, handling are all better. And then the engine lol. For around 30k i would take the v6 camaro over brz/86.
The tS is the 1 car I want more than any other for my enthusiast driver. Have a WRB tS on order with short shifter and V bar expected in April. I do plan to keep eyesight disabled though if that’s possible. No way I would want that on an enthusiast driver, but I’ll take the insurance discount
The "tS" upgrade can make sense if you plan on tracking your car and don't want to go hog wild on the mods. I can personally attest that on track an intermediate driver can induce "brake fade" in under 20 minutes; even on a cool damp day. So the Brembo's are a worthy upgrade. I suppose if you're gonna do coil overs, you can always sell the stock struts with the Hitachi dampers. So the ST package can be a cost effective move. In addition, the lack of steering feel is a quizzical issue? I wonder if a combination of camber bolts and bushing upgrades can address that problem?
TH should really know and understand that the winter tires make the steering feel much worse than the summer tires in any car. Granted my gr86 still lack a good steering feel compared to my e46 or e90 m3 but saying the brz ts has zero steering feedback on winters need to be retested after the stock ps4 tires. Again it’s still pretty shitty against any older true bmws but better than many current sportscars
@@jamesengelsman9369I didn’t now if they mentioned it if it’s a summer or winter tires but most of cold weather places got winters on for these press cars testing videos including topher’s reviewed cars. Assuming TH is in Canada its fitted with winters unless they are filming in south or America
If I had to guess, I'd say manufacturers are afraid to modify their engines much if at all for special versions probably because of heinous regulations, especially emissions. They can change the suspension and all the other little bits without affecting eligibility to sell. If they turbocharge it, it probably would never be able to meet emissions. But they know the aftermarket does it, so they don't feel they have to. I just wish manufacturers would openly criticize the overbearing regulations so people are aware of what's going on. At least that's my assumption.
That's what happens when you don't use protection when parking next to a WRX. Your BRZ catches an STI.

2002 AP1 S2000 still great like this 2024 BRZ tS.
Thanks for sharing that quote from your old instructor!
Y'all get suuuuuch a good deal on the BRZ in Canada! 👌
Still worth it in either currency, I love my BRZ.
The WRX is also only about $2k more in Canada than the US, so similar deal after factoring exchange rate. The WRX TR is only $44k CAD (though that's still expensive due to Canadians having relatively less buying power than Americans but I digress)
Ahhh... as a BRZ owner i love to see any twins content from you both. Thank you
If you want one
Get the 2017-2019 BRZ RS (Canada) Performance Package (USA)
That was the best daily driver / track BRZ
The dampers and brakes were amazing factory mods
I love mine
Don’t give up!
You can get a manual first gen FRS pretty cheap. Or even a manual civic SI would be pretty fun too
Buy a motorcycle and/or get out of the city. Either or both are likely to induce happiness
Thats cool
I was in the same spot i had a 23 on order but changed it to a ts only because i got around 5 grand off because i work at a dealership
IIRC the flexible V-bar makes a noticeable difference in the steering, and kicks up the responsiveness.
Loved the ending
I have a 2023. The Cusco steering rack bushings gave the steering a bit more feel. Cusco also sells various front end braces that are supposed to help steering feel. It doesn’t feel quite as good as I *remember* my first gen BRZ felt in the steering department, but much better to start.
I think what Subaru should have done for it
1. Work on brake feel: add bigger master cylinder like they did on WRX TR, might as well throw 6 piston brakes
2. Retweak the steering feel: again as they did on WRX TR but better
3. Put on STI functional accessories like lateral link set, v bar, draw stiffener, spoiler, forged wheels, short shifter, shift knob.
4. Suspension tuning as they did on tS but more efforts
5. Exhaust
6. 4.3 final drive
I think for an extra 4000 I'd pay for all of that.
Exhaust all the way! That would make it feel as if you had a different car from the regular BRZ -not just a badge and some colored brakes.
They really weren’t lying when they said quick review
sti is simply the tuning division of Subaru. In Japan it is really common to have those sti badges all over everything. Hell, they even make an STI brz that is not turbo'd.
Right you are. The "BRZ tS" is called "STI Sport" in Japan. Over there they understand that STI is a trim level, not a whole race car overhaul.
Well, akshually... ** fixes glasses**
You know you guys get better every video you make. The humor and banter is unmatched
That fake engine noise is nauseating
The canned engine sound in this video was brutal
It can be disconnected in less than 2 minutes.
I barely notice it when driving but in videos, it's terrible
Exactly how I plan on keeping my Trueno Edition…….no mods at all
@@martinrps13 Same. I'm getting a tS. No mods planned for me either aside from maybe cosmetic addons like lip and rear spoiler.
I like the handbrake, the manual gearbox and the Infotainment is build in.
never knew Hitachi made dampers - but i did know they made things damp...
Hitachi and Yamaha makes like literally EVERYTHING!
@@xelaander8429 gotta love Japanese engineering lol
It's magic
Only some will get it....
I like how thomas’ f1 opinions randomly appear in these videos, they’re hilarious
My brakes on the 86 overheat from a single highway speed stop. They needed upgrade
This is 100% my next car. It's nearly perfect all around.
I purchased a '23 BRZ just to avoid the Eye Sight on a manual. Luddite, I know.
Will the 86 manual get the Toyota version of Eyesight?
@@ytj22yup all the 24 up models will for the twins
@@nooderls5096 well that sucks
@@nooderls5096 I wonder when Toyota will announce this because so far their website shows manual transmissions don't have this.
The dark blue looks fantastic 😍
Anyone who says this needs a turbo, doesnt get the point of this car.
@@Flatsixfiesta- agreed. Also - the earlier comments are off - this is a 32k car that likely would be 45k if they did a turbo (brakes and other mechanical upgrades would likely come with the turbo). Absolutely would make it faster, but I doubt it would make it better. Acceleration bros should get the Supra or a Camaro or mustang and leave this proper sports car to the adults.
why turbo this thing? NA is the way to go
Did they straight up move to California or do they just travel back and forth constantly?
They take a trip down to CA, visit a few dealers and grab a few interesting things, shoot a bunch of clips over a couple of days and then release those clips over the next few weeks. Rinse and repeat.
They go back and forth and spend a lot of the winter there.
Period.
How was eyesight on the manual?
20/20
I've got it, is really pretty nice.
Honestly I really like this version than normal brz actually
What about it?

Editing error?
Guys, opinion. The level of engine sound fed to us in this video is one of the best examples in a driving review I’ve ever seen; if not the best. MOAR!
i kind of zoned out for work a little bit while this was on, and all i can think of is how terrible that exhaust sounds. the drone is real
Crack open your piggy bank, brace yourself for the bill, and buy or build one.
it's nice hearing about a car by people that are actual enthusiasts instead of car shills for dealerships.
The EZ30 from the Outback? Wow, didn’t even know they had a modern-ish flat 6 up until recently..would be insane in a BRZ imo.
For a second I thought Toyota and Subaru finally put a turbo on the BRZ LOL
the more we hope, the closer to manifestation
turbo kits are out for the NA version and all the ones i’ve seen have been surviving at 400-500whp
GR86 is switching to the Gr Corolla's 3 banger turbo
A turbo would put this car into a price category where the rest of the car just wouldn't stack up. Nobody is gonna pay near bmw 3 series money for an interior like this
Some modders just want to mods power adders not brakes & suspension tuning. Perfect car for that.
So no turbo needed? The Audi S1 is also small but with turbo and awd. Of course, pricier. But can’t Subaru add a turbo at least?
I also would love a liftback instead of a trunk so that I can fit things in it easier, but that probably won't happen until a Gen 3, if ever.
now we need a mx5 nd3 quick review
@7:20 It's so true. Maybe something to keep the oil pressure above 10 PSI in the sharp right-handers Subaru?
To speak on the Miata v BRZ question: I feel like the Miata is for the person that just wants to enjoy driving in all scenarios regardless of how fast youre going and doesnt really care about the track, wheras the BRZ is better suited for the racetrack and for someone that just wants to go fast. If you're a road guy, get the Miata, if youre a track guy, get the BRZ
BRZ engine can’t survive track work due to oil pressure drops
@@mattmcbee7109Has actually been fixed by Verus Engineering and @900BRZ now. High capacity oil pan was the solution, but then again that requires modding. Just get a first gen, overfill the oil by 0,5l (1/2 quart) and throw it around instead :P
@@mattmcbee7109 Oops, forgot about that. Well in that case I can't really see a reason to buy the BRZ over a Miata lol
@@mattmcbee7109 Not a big deal actually. But there have been a few failures. Easy mods to fix.
Better brakes are always good.
It would've been cool if they got a hold of the '24 GR86 trueno edition and did a video with that and James' AE86.
I agree though it's just a cheaper way to get a big break kit, depending if the dealers don't jack up the prices 😮
Increased track capability from factory is greatly appreciated
I seriously love my 2023 BRZ limited. The only thing that would even remotely matter is the brakes
The flat-four is a natural and very compact fit for a supercharger! Without all the extra turbo plumbing & lag.
I know I’m late to this video. But LOVED the Russel/Lewis commentary.
Great sound!!!
The gr86 is around 50-60k USD in Norway, i think ill stick to my 101hp focus mk2 for now...
I like these guys takes
love the vid guys, can you do either a full review or quick review of the wrx tr? i heard that the subtle upgrades made it not a lot but noticeably better, Thanks!
Worth it for the brakes alone.
A new set of these exact calipers from a parts dealer currently cost $6,500. You can get a clean low-mile set of Brembos that will work for $1,500 or less.
Perfect Extra Throttle House ending.
Which is the place where you drive this car. Is this Canyon California? Thanks.
Q: are the engines in the turbo cars different than stock? Like, the STI engines had reinforced pistons and stuff to handle the compression, didn't they? But what about the base WRX engine?
I ask because, warranty be damned, I'd immediately slap a turbo on the BRZ unless it would crumple...
base premium with the 17s is the way to go
I couldn't tell whether my internet was having a stroke or if the video just ended and I respect that
"Lewis Hamilton can't stop complaining, I love lewis hamilton btw" is the most relatable comment
Wait, you guys found some place that sells Subarus for MSRP?
Literally every Subaru dealer I'ver ever seen. Unlike Toyota
Thomas, James, BRZ ts and the white road ;)
I wonder if the different dampers up front resulted in reduced caster? That would worsen steering feel.
The tS is the 1 car I want more than any other for my enthusiast driver. Have a WRB tS on order with short shifter and V bar expected in April. I do plan to keep eyesight disabled though if that’s possible. No way I would want that on an enthusiast driver, but I’ll take the insurance discount
I couldn't stand the torque dip. I bought a 2022 Subaru BRZ, No Eyesight and couldn't be happier.
So, you've cancelled the order for the Emira once you drove this?
They fixed all the stuff that didn't need fixing!
Give us better engine sound!
Improve the steering feel!
Fix the gasket issue!
The test vehicle in this video is fitted with summer tires
@@jamesengelsman9369I didn’t now if they mentioned it if it’s a summer or winter tires but most of cold weather places got winters on for these press cars testing videos including topher’s reviewed cars. Assuming TH is in Canada its fitted with winters unless they are filming in south or America

Engine upgrade? I would suggest better head gaskets.
