Love this tradition, it’s like the spiritual equivalent of what the Irish call “the Parting Glass”, which is meant to be savoured because, traditionally, it’s supposed to be a remembrance that there will never be this exact moment again. That same sort of lingering feeling.

In case you're concerned about repetition: I often play your "getting ready for Shabbat" videos while I prepare for the Christian Sabbath (so I'm prepping on Saturday for Sunday) so it's like having a "prep and clean buddy" even though we are doing our prep work on separate days. Obviously, you do you but sometimes it's nice to clean with a parasocial friend.
This has to be one of most favourite videos Chana. The excitement, happiness and joy at reinstating this practice was radiating from you and was infectious. The way that you described the way it feels to prolong Shabbat made me laugh but also was very poignant. The way you then said you want to dwell in the holiness a little longer - oh Chana, thank you for sharing your life and your customs with us. I feel so honoured by the glimpses into how your faith and your traditions strengthen and sustain you.

I love your shot of the table after Shabbat. It looks like lots of happy family time. Something that really appeals to me about Judaism is the central role of the family. Yes, there are services at the synagogue but much of the practice is centred in the family and community. My theory is that this is why Judaism has survived for thousands of years despite pogroms, expulsions, and attempted genocide.
I’ve heard it said that if you take the synagogues away, Judaism will survive just fine. But if you take it out of the home that’s a problem.

Nice, Chana. I never attended a maleva malka. I always wondered what it is. And I like your dishes. Showing something different keeps this channel fresh, instead of the same old "preparing for Shabbat" videos. Do you have any ideas for a cultural video? Either something about interesting Sephardic traditions and ritual items, Sephardic foods, or Jewish art in your life, or Jewish music? I would love to watch something like that, even if it's connected with the upcoming holidays. Like instead of "here is our sukkah" something that has even more individualized meaning (for people who know all about Sukkot and celebrate it....) and interest and stands out....

Love the baby crawling around.Too cute.I’ll bet he’s getting too heavy to carry all day , but still small enough to rock. I miss those days. Counting the weeks til Christmas ( for us) , our kids will be here. We can’t wait, September seems to drag by, I decorate for fall, it stays up til Thanksgiving, then the holiday decorations come out.

Lovely video and seeing baby Firefly doing his investigation of your cupboards. You could try waiting the 6 (3 hours if you live in London Ashkenaz communities and then have a Cream Team with scones, jam and cream and coffee and tea? In London many of us have Milchik Sedudot Shelishit. Gut Voch!

Wonderful video. Just one tip. Take it from a veteran cook.if you don't have breadcrumbs in the house you can substitute it with a little soaked challah in the ground meat. It is even fluffier. (Make sure it is well soaked so that it does not show in the meat,).

I was so excited when I saw this in my subscription notices and even though I'm swamped with work and I am Obi-Wan-BEG today I had to post this to say thank you.
