My son is T1D. Not only is he not required to fast, but he is required to keep an eye on his sugar levels and eat just like he would on any day. Life above all.
Your willingness to share your life with us is greatly appreciated. I watch a lot of Jewish RUclips channels. I have learned so much. I have been seeking spirituality and community my whole life and haven't felt home yet. Judaism speaks to me so much. I probably need to find a rabbi, to speak with.

There was a British TV series narrated by Laurence Olivier, “World at War”, that ran in the US somewhere around 1974 had episodes focused on the Holocaust and liberation of the concentration camps.
I was in high school when I watched it with my father, and it was painful to watch even at that age, but if you can find it when your kids are older, I think it’s well worth the effort. Each episode interspersed film footage made during the war with first person accounts. This was only 30 years after the war ended, so they were able to interview many survivors, which made the accounts all the more real.
As a fellow introvert I appreciate how you recognize and prioritize your alone time to recharge. I’m a therapist so I’m pushing myself out of my comfort zone every day and need my alone time to maintain my patience and drive. I love my job but it drains my emotional batteries. I’m glad I’m not alone. I don’t know anyone in my life who needs to be alone to stay sane

I love that you and Mr. Firefly consider grocery shopping a date night. Obviously we don't see all the aspects of your personal relationship with each other, but what you share with us here definitely reminds me a lot of my parents and their relationship. My dad loves to cook and my mom, well I don't think she hates it, but she doesn't love it as much as he does. One of the things they learned early in their marriage was to go grocery shopping together. Because then both of them knew what foods were on hand, and one wasn't annoyed that the other didn't pick up the right ingredient. Not that they always go grocery shopping together, the timing to do so doesn't always work out. But I definitely remember as a child, when I was old enough to watch my siblings, and when money was tight, my parents went on many a "date" to the local grocery store.
“I just wanna sit outside and read a book” You are my kinda people, Chana. While I can appreciate a good pedicure or massage, give me a book I can devour and I’m happy as a clam. ❤

this is very similar with the conversion story... I was brought up as a Protestant. My moms side including my mom was born in Scotland. I am in the middle of converting to Catholic. As you can imagine being from Scotland my mom isn't too happy that I am becoming Catholic. But when God calls you to do something you do it... I felt the tug from God at the beginning of Lent this year so I listened I am so happy now. My husband is a cradle catholic so no need to do anything there. We had our marriage blessed by our Priest in June as well and our son had already been baptized so he just needed to get the oil done and have his baptism rite completed. We don't pour water twice so that wasn't done. I am getting confirmed, brought into the church and receive the holy Eucharist of our Lord Nov 25th at the Saturday Vigil im so excited.
That is a great story! I pray you find this way of life very fulfilling and that you continue to grow closer to G-d! I’m Protestant but there are many facets of Catholicism that I love. May your confirmation be a meaningful and blessed time!❤

The heat in Israel is starting to come to an end and its definitely a beautiful time of year especially with all the chagim coming up. Its absolutely beautiful festive and definitely make feel that we r all one big family.
Grocery shopping is totally a date night ❤😊 at least for us. I actually learned that from my parents if asked that is always their favorite date nights, they will get a small plate of food before then go to the grocery stores and see what they can find or get the things to make a new recipe.

*side note as I remember I think I was 10-11 when I really learned about ww2 and everything that happened more than just a basic this bad thing happened but that’s because I was curious and asked lots of questions I was always very interested in history and finding the truth of the past. My mom was also a very good teacher and taught us as we were individually ready. Which is one of the best parts of homeschool

I am no Jewish but my husband is and I saw a movie about the Holocaust and he has told me about it what his dad and grandma told him, I just cried for those people's so many.😢 How can anyone do such a horrible thing just because of what they believe. Hi Chana! My grandson is 10. He wanted to go to the WW2 museum here in NOLa, and my husband wanted to take him. He knows a little bit about that war, but he knows nothing about Hitler or the holocaust. My daughter, his mother, said he could go but she wasn’t ready for him to learn about that kind of evil. She is retired from the navy. My grandson is so sweet, he never meets a stranger, all he wants is someone to play with, so he has friends of every creed and color. This last year he heard about racism and asked his mom what it is. She explained it to him gently, but he was totally confused. He couldn’t wrap his head around the hatred. She might as well have told him the earth is made of green cheese. Anyway, thanks again for inviting us into your home!😊

That’s a really great strategy on introducing details on the Holocaust. Mine was a production of Diary of Anne Frank (and I believe I was also around 10), and that was basically the level of detail my parents felt was appropriate. I don’t envy you having to tell them about these horrors, G-d be with you in doing so.
Hello , I always enjoy your posts.. Saturday morning I was browsing tv and I came to a Shabbat service. It was a young female rabbi with a group of young adults. I really enjoyed it and their interaction on scripture ..😊
Oh the irony. Saturdays they aren't supposed to use technology and to have a female rabbi, but to each their own.

If they’re Orthodox, that’s true. If of another denomination, not so much.

I really enjoy your videos and love how you think about teaching your kids in general and specifically about the Shoa. I am german and i was a very small kid when i learned about the concentration camps and the holocaust and i still remember the fear and horror that comes with all the details i learned about. I agree with you, that it is better to wait until they have more questions and i would recommend the book "when Hitler stole pink rabbit" by Judith Kerr.

The time from Dairy to meat is not set in stone. It is Tradition, not law, minag, not din. Some wait 3 hours, some wait 1 hour, some ½ hour. Hard cheeses are different than soft cheeses, ice cream, etc.
I have a suggestion for you about teaching your children on the Holocaust:
Try to do a ceremony in the Holocaust memorial Day, with related song's, maybe you could read them at children's story about it about it.
Maybe they could read a poem or draw a picture.
You can also do a minute of silence to remember the victims.
That's the way children in Israel learning about the Holocaust.
And of course much different because this day very unique in Israel.
I'm sure your husband can help you with that.

Travel advice for Pennsylvania Dutch country. I live in Corning, NY and love learning vacations. When I was in my 20's (many many moons ago) I went to the Kutztown Fair, in Kutztown, PA. That fair is a walking learning experience about all things Amish! The food is served in a huge tent and is served family style all along these 40 foot long tables! Might be Kosher challenging so check the online information. They have all sorts of working Amish stalls and even have a wedding happen daily on this emourmous chair! There's music and the most beautiful quilts you've ever seen...many tell bible stories! Your family would love it!

Chana, it is very personal, my great grandpa died in Auschwitz and he was German. He just refused to support the system. I am Polish and was never able to enter the site of Auschwitz. The horror and terror made me pass out. I am forty and was never able to go into the gas chambers. I also know a lady who visisted the grounds in 1951 and was showed around by previous inmates...

I applaud your attitude, because how others look at you as a convert! It's their problem! sad people look down on you because your a convert! Not only you and Mr. Firefly prove your great parents because you love your children no matter what choices they make, your parents done the same! 😀 I am what they call type 1.5 which is both types. I have been type 1.5 for 20 years, I know it must be hard for your son to be type 1, and have celiac disease too! It's hard enough having diabetes, some don't realize the mental and physical drain it can take on you! I wish your son the best, you as well. We all have a path to follow, that God has laid for us! Thank you for education you provide about the Jewish faith! BTW I understand about pants. I wear shorts year around! Unless I go to church! I live in south Alabama! Hi Chana! I hope you had a great fall day yesterday with your family! As always I enjoyed the video. I totally understand the frustration of homeschooling. I would get so frustrated at myself when I thought lessons should be going quicker or when my grandson seemed to not know something that we had covered multiple times. Seriously, I don’t remember everything, why did I expect him to? I know you will handle teaching WWII and the Holocaust to your children in an age appropriate way. God will give you the words for the lessons. I know you have a few years before you will be discussing more of the specific details but it is never to soon to start asking God for his help in having the right words. I pray all the time for discernment especially when it comes to covering hard topics with little minds and hearts.

We got a camper trailer last year and it’s been wonderful and we’ve been camping so much not so much when it’s winter or spring because it gets cold here in Oregon but it’s perfect for a family of six as it has two king-size beds. The couch folds into a bed, and the table is into a bed and we paid like 10 grand used so I would highly recommend something like that instead of an RV

When discussing WWII, remember to talk about the many non-jews were also killed. Especially people who hid Jews. Also many Priests , nuns , ministers etc...

Hi Chana! I love when I see your new videos! I'm a teacher as well, and that is so true. I try my best to always be happy, but sometimes I might not be feeling well, or I have a lot on my mind. So I always explain to my students, "Hey I'm not feeling well, I'm sorry if I'm grouchy." I then try to cheer up quicky because they're so sweet, and I just love teaching so much! Regarding Holocaust education. My children know vaguely about it but probably more than most kids because my grandparents were Holocaust survivors and refugees.

"I just want to sit outside and read a book". Oh yes! This was me as a young Mum and this is me now. I too am very low maintenance and my sweet husband often comments favourably about that to other people - it might even out with all the book purchases though!

Another great video. Holocaust is a huge topic and breaking it up into age appropriate pieces sounds like a good approach.
Regarding taking a 13-year-old to a Holocaust Museum: I did this recently, and it worked out well. Just be prepared to let the child make decisions about when they've had enough. You don't have to see everything on the first visit. I kept checking in with her, asking if she's OK, does she need a break, and she ended up being able to handle a lot more than I would have expected. I also had her go through some sections more quickly, or skip them, either because the images were too grisly or because I knew it would be more interesting for her to focus on the parts of the history that her own family was actually part of, or people she knew, so when we were in sections about other countries entirely, we sort of just skimmed and then moved on.

Oh my gosh! You are a saint in my eyes because 1) you home school and 2) you home school! LOL Patience and frustration levels would bring me to tears if I had tried to do that for our daughter. Just getting homework done in a timely manner was work for her & me. But we got through it and by the time high school rolled around the foundation for good study habits was in place. Good parenting is hard work and that's what I find a lot of people just don't get. I'm sure your littles will appreciate all of your hard work and know you and their Abba love them to the moon and back! 💚

In the camp I went to see was near Prague, they have a children’s room in the museum as part of it, all of us men and women had tears running down our faces.Terezan is one of its names, it was a feeder camp for Auswitz if I understood it correctly. I will never forget it but glad I went.

Oh! And as a teacher (1st grade, 7th grade math and middle school gifted) maybe I can offer you some encouragement for your patience. Keep in mind that in public school the teacher teaches a lesson for around 40-50 minutes a day and then assigns homework for that night. So as a math teacher I would assign homework that should take anywhere from 15-30 minutes. Just remember that the age of the child will dictate the length of the lesson and amount of homework. Given those parameters it sounds like your children are doing great and are picking up new concepts rather quickly.

Imitation crab is made with Pollock and seasonings. The pollock is ground mixed with seasonings and extruded onto a belt, cooked, rolled, cut, and packaged, all in the same process.

When you get to teaching the Holocaust there are some really good children’s books. Hannah’s Suitcase comes to mind. Ask a good children’s librarian.

Number the Stars is one book that might be helpful when discussing the Holocaust with upper elementary age children. When I taught small groups of students about the decade of the 1940s, reading the book aloud and discussing it was our entry point.

Since you teach your children yourself, you are experienced in this area.
If I would want to teach the children in our kindergarten something about the religious life of Jewish children, e.g. about the Sabbath, Jewish holidays, everyday life at home, how would you do that.
At our high school we have a Judaica suitcase from Switzerland with various items (kippas, an havdala set, teffiiin, tallit, mezuzah, menora etc.). But this has more of a museum than of lived life,
because the things were also very expensive and should therefore only be handled very carefully.
How do you teach your children how to deal with it? I saw in your and frum it up's videos about your jewish holiday shopping trips that there are a lot of thingies for children. Can you recommend toy-things, books, videos Amazon might ship overseas? Things children can touch and experience.😀

When my daughter was in middle school they brought a train car that was believed to have been used to transport Jewish people. We were able to step inside, and it shook me to the core. It was small, and hot and frightening to be inside it. Inside the school the students had put together suitcases with lids up and names attached. I will never, ever forget that night. Even now it hurts the heart to think of it.

This might not reach you before you post Monday’s video, but wanted to check in with you and your family. I’ve been watching the news about the Moroccan earthquake and I know Mr. Firefly is from Morocco. I realize the country is biggish and his family might not be directly affected, but if they are, know that you and your immediate family and your in-laws are in my thoughts.
You’re so very thoughtful thank you. My husbands family is no longer living in Morocco so we were not personally affected by the earthquake.
