MTD and Murray have the same exact type of mechanism. I didn't realize the top part of the lever is what catches the teeth on the gear, now it makes sense...thanks

I have NO idea why you would be compelled to make this video. But you have saved me so much headache and I Thank you so much for uploading this.
I replaced my steering shaft and could not figure out what the hell this linkage attached to and was so vexed by it.
    Thanks again

Awesomeness, you saved me plenty of time. I just replaced the steering rod on my 2012 Pony. Put it all back together. No gearshift. I did not even try and fix it, just went straight to RUclips. Your video was great, problem solved in seconds.Thank you again.

I've been watching videos for over TWO HOURS..about changing Trannie Pullys, Deck Removals..etc..even one where a guy just BITCHED about Troy Bilt Refusing to fix his 2 years , out of warranty Pony (For free..of course)... Just replaced the steering shaft and fought for TWO Weeks..off and On (Weather..100 deg weather.. trying to get the Damn Phillips screw on the bottom of the shaft (replaced it with a Hex head bolt same thread) Tried everything Heat to soften the thread sealer.. Stripped the Head with an Impact wrench! Removed the deck to get More room and..Long story..drilled the head off replaced the shaft..put together and after finally starting up.. Nothing but FULL SPEED ahead! THANK YOU... PS: I would send ya a Burrito but I'd Probably eat it before I got it Mailed..subscribed instead.. Thanks again!

I thought a spring was missing, as I had to replace my upper drive belt first and notice that the spring to the one pulley was broken. Then this one-speed movement happened. Thought my new belt was too tight, but determined that was not it. So...if this works.....THANK YOU!!

Awesome dude!! April 2022 and still helping out! I just bought this same mower off this guy for $100 and I thought something was broken.. I'm guessing that's why he sold it🤣🤣

This had been driving me nuts since this lawn mower was new. I had to replace the blade engagement cable today. Luckily a place here had the correct part. So I had to try again to figure out why the speed control lever didn't do anything or seem to connect to anything. I just found this video and voila that did it. Now I can move on to working on the ol' Jeep.

OK, I think my problem is, there's the pulley in the back where both belts attach. It seems to be a variable pulley, that expands and contracts depending on the position of the lever in the console. Seems that pulley sort of gets stuck in the HIGH position and if you select a "lower" setting, the pulley won't move causing the belt to go slack. Hope I explained that good, and hoping that's the problem.

Will I have to buy a Sub?? (LOL). I have a Troy bilt pony (2011), I can only control the speed with the throttle lever, even when I put it in rabbit mode the motor goes at high rpm, but the ground speed is about half the normal speed; the yellow speed control lever doesn’t work, it goes up and down without locking the notches, offers no resistance and does nothing. (however, the engaging of the parking brake action works fine).
I opened up the mower and saw the yellow speed control lever attached to a connecting rod which is attached down there to the cupped metal piece in the correct position as shown on your video, but besides allowing to be put in in park position, I don’t see it attached to anything else, is it right? How does it regulate the speed? Thank you in advance.

My 2014 troy bilt horse xp has the same problem. However it's not caused by the same issue you got in this video. Any other ideas what it could be?

can you do a vid of where that rod connects to I loaned my mower to someone and someone took it off I've been searching for a while and this is the only vid I find anywhere close

Ok... Step 1. Cut off the mower and lift up the hood. Step 2. Use your left hand to compress the brakes ALL the way back (down). Step 3
Use your right hand to Push the Speed lever down to Park or 1. Step 4. Now use your right hand to Push the speed lever under the hood all the way to the right...
At this point you will see how the Speed lever connects to the Brake and now you can let go of the brake.
The Brake and speed lever just became unattached is all...
This literally just happens to me 8/12/2020 about an hour ago... and I fixed it... my lever was moving but still my speed stayed on High and I couldn't put it in park... it was all because the Speed lever mechanism under the hood detaches from the brake is all... hope this helps... if now send me your email and I'll sent you pictures of MINE...

I have a question about shift lever please. I replaced the steering shaft after last season. Now when i put shift lever into gear and let off the brake, after going to end of cut area I hit brake and lever falls down into park position. It was not doing this last year
Any ideals? Any help would be most appreciated. Thank you

Oh my gosh you made me feel like and idiot. Lol. I recently rebuilt the steering on my mower and it only had high gear after. It was dark outside when I put it back together though. That and I had to grind off the philips screw they put on the steering shaft.
