I’m a female and I’ve held open doors for guys and vice versa , who ever is at the door first should open it 🤷🏾♀️
Honey Minnie my exact sentiment
I completely agree.
Funny story: I open the door for people a lot. In one instance where I opened a door for a man, he flat out refused to walk through it. He held up everyone walking behind us because, for some reason, he just would not walk through the door that I held open for him. He just looked annoyed and tried to force me to go first, as if my holding the door open for him was some kind of inconvenience...
Jade Marie I’m sorry, is there another gender you want to inform me that I am? There’s only men and women. Men are males, women are females. There’s no difference between female and woman unless you’re talking about age, and I had to grow up fast so I’ve been a woman for a minute now.
Amen! My thoughts for that statement was yes...and women should hold doors for men. Who ever is there to open the door should open it for the other person.
Richard Adams exactly, that’s just common courtesy.
I'm a woman and the thing of "men opening doors" makes no sense to me.
Who arrives the door first, opens the door
I agree. And I would also say - guys, more likely, try to make it to the door first in order to open it for their female partner. That's the case for me atleast.
its just polite to open a door for a woman but if you say *I dont open my own doors* it’s annoying
It's never been a problem of opening a door for a woman, but don't expect it. I'm not opening it for you because you're a woman it's because you're a person.
Well thank you for your generosity and being an actual human being.
@@jayhova shaddup
As a woman, I really don’t understand the holding open doors thing… like it’s a door? If you get to a door first, open it and hold it open! It’s not an act of chivalry, it’s an act of common curtesy for anyone and everyone.
Women getting mad at men opening doors for them is a consequence of feminism and the western sexual revolution.
yes i agree with every other point other feminists make but i dont get the door thing
Celesté S Same! I will always be 100% a feminist, but that isn’t feminism… it’s entitlement 😂
Julia marie Attard Independence from what? Men? That’s impossible to achieve. Feminism defined by most contemporary feminists today is the equality of rights for men and women. Ok, equality of rights to what extent? Can a man do everything women can do, and can a man do everything a woman could do? No. The problem with feminism today is that it’s teaching women to become more like men and for men to become more like women. Your whole ideology is based on the fallacy that men and women are equal in an absolute context, therefore their rights should reflect that.
Men and women are obviously inherently different, so why give them equal absolute rights? Give men and women EQUITABLE rights. Justice can not always be served under equal rights, but only under equitable rights.
Well I'm a guy and I'm a nice person. So of course I'm going to open the door for you.
I feel like they could have picked WAYYY better people to discuss these gender issues with
definitely, when they said "my gender has no disadvantages" and the men only said "we can't show emotion" I was like "what about all of the extremely high risks of dying we have and how they are much higher then women's chance of dying from it" and then the women said "no one takes me seriously" yes but women are also oppressed to an extreme amount in some countries. “i won’t touch the door if a man is with me” i think that’s a bit overboard...as a women i open my own doors unless someone does that for me. it doesn’t matter if they are male or female, you should be polite and respectful. i won’t sit and wait for a man to open a door for me but it would be chivalry if they would. i think it shouldn’t be a crazy thing if women open doors for men. that’s what equality is.

This is a topic that, in certain circles, is in contention, under debate. It would be good to do a big group like they did with the dems vs repub.
Different countries and cultures as well
Also would have been cool to see how gender stereotypes have evolved over the years.
I'm wondering when "chivalry" replaced "courtesy". Because, I remember being taught to open doors for others as a form of courtesy.
Same here, man. I just open doors for absolutely anyone because it's respectful.
When did this become a foreign concept? I honestly have no idea.
@Emcstea that is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. You're insinuating that all men open doors for women as a way to sexually harass women. That is fundamentally absurd. I'm willing to bet that you don't even know the objective behind a pickup line. I'll give you a hint, it's not to get in a woman's panties. Your narrow-mindedness is only serving to further divide men and women. Not every man is trying to get you into bed with them. I know this sounds harsh, but life is harsh and trying to say that something courteous offends you actually offends me. Here is my question to you... How long are you going to let a bad experience you had dictate what you do in your life?
@Emcstea I had a hard time understanding your grammar but I understood the last line. So I'll just respond to that.
"It's come to if I show you kindness and be grateful, it's a cue for you to demand something of me. This is how we got here."
This shows me that you're equating some of your bad experiences with immature men to being the behavior of men in general.
This is absolutely unrealistic. I open the door for everyone, and then I expect nothing back from them, and I generally never see them again.
The point is to show kindness to others because we're all here together, and life is hard enough without yet another scowl in the streets.
So we smile, and we do what we can for complete strangers.
Your view on men as a whole is very skewed, and I genuinely hope that you're proven wrong in person someday. I know that comments on RUclips aren't going to do it for you.

You can't say you want equality and then expect men to open doors, pay for dates and ask you out solely based on the fact that they're men. Equality is equality.
this comment, yes
You can if that is what youre ATTRACTED to in my opinion . You can choose your partner based on what you find attractive, and that can certainly be a factor. However expecting it from all men etc is obviously not equality.
Equality is more about how you should be treated in society as humans instead of your sex. So you get the same advantages. You get the same opportunities, and you can choose the type of roll you want instead of being forced into it.
This plays into choosing your roll, and what you find attractive. You are not saying all men have to be X or they are bad. You are saying instead for me personally I require X out of a relationship, and am willing to seek out the people who enjoy that. They will probably also bring other more traditional rolls into their own relationship, but not believe that that is a structure that others are obligated to maintain.

@Kir By they're not different. stop with these expectations, god.
Kir By Exactly! We are equal is essence but different in function. It seems to me like there are who people want us to be gender neutral socially. As a woman that is attracted to men I want a man who is acting like a man (and interacting with me like one). I don't want some gender neutral behaving male (What do I need that for I can get that on my own or with friends?)
@Kir By Absolutely, men and woman are different, no doubt about it. And I love it when my boyfriend shows chivalry. But over all, I think people should stop leaving it to men to be respectful. We can all hold doors, we can all be helpful and respectful. But I totally get your point, especially about gender neutrality.
Kir By and what exactly are women expected to do to men, accept the flowers?
@@MissLadyG99 "behaving like a man" means that men are taught to behave a certain way because society wants them to do so and that's messed up. There's no gender neutral behavior, it's who people are, don't judge that. It's just an illusion, everyone's how they are, society just wants to label everything and that's just not possible.

@@estherx5859 What are you talking about? That does not make sense at all. You shouldn't just go around and pick the women's side, just "because". That is so sexist. Although it might not have been the most productive debate, I do think that hearing a perspective that's different from yours is helpful in moving towards better comprehending one's world. It's hard to tease out "personal issues" from one's point of view, because like it or not, these personal issues shape our thinking.

That’s exactly what I think
Am I the only one who thinks guys choose to hold doors for girls just to look at their butts? I’d honestly much rather open my own door or for others, and that’s just the part of me that would rather help people than be helped. If somebody holds it open for me boy or girl I usually go into a mini fight saying “no you go ahead, no you” lol but honestly you say your mother taught you. Its not just polite, it’s common sense. Like if somebody is right behind you or has a lot of things you might as well hold the door open. I just learned to hold doors open cuz I’m a decent human being but nobody would call me a gentlemen tho cuz that’s a masculine term. Saying that it’s a “gentlemen” thing to do, you almost label it as something a man should do and not women. I know that probably wasn’t your intention but that’s how I perceived it. I appreciate when ANYONE holds the door open for me because that’s just the KIND thing to do. I don’t appreciate it anymore just cuz a guy does it. I’d only appreciate it more if it was an old person cuz out of respect I should be holding the door for them for being older if anything.
Totally agree, if people want equality we have to be equal. This is why chivalry is so old fashioned to me, it’s typically a masculine thing to be chivalrous and to pay for the meal on a date, hold open doors, pull the chair out for the lady. When in fact if people want equality between the genders (as I do) women should split the cheque the man, hold open their own doors. Y’know I just find the fact women are “weaker” a load of rubbish.

Just because a man opens a door for a woman doesn't mean he thinks it's because they're unable to. Everyone can open a door. He's just being a gentleman. Don't overanalyze an act of kindness.
I totally agree. Like what she's saying is the history of it, but to think that a man would be acting from that history and thinking of it is completely absurd! I'm all for acts of kindness from people of whatever gender.
Izzy May Be Great well, I dont want an act of kindness that only exists based on my gender. I want an unconditional act of kindness.
Right, the old Western world expectations are so proper compared to modern day America , because opening a door for women "is oppression"
Yeah overreaching hard on that one
i understand their point ... i think it just depends on the situation and person tbh
Disadvantages for men:
-longer sentences for the same crime
-most likely to lose custody of child
-being drafted into war
-more likely to commit suicide or go homeless
wit the whole men commit suicide more thing its not that men try more (atleast not by a huge amount) its just that when men do it theyre more likely to hang themselves or jump of building where as women are more likely to try overdose which has a much lower fatality rates.
Some of those disadvantages men have are due to sexism towards women like that women are weaker and not as smart and reliable or are better suited at home. Most of the problems men face in society are due to sexist ideas society has about women. Men and women have different and similar struggles but they stem from the same idea. 😣
Higher risk of autism, schizophrenia, and heart disease. Higher risk of substance abuse and antisocial disorders. Have fewer close relationships than women, on average, so are more likely to lack social support. Fewer resources available in case of domestic abuse or sexual abuse.
A lot of disadvantages for men result from the system of patriarchy, we fail to realise that patriarchy as a system negatively affects not just women but also negatively affects men in certain ways
-losing custody of child cause childcare is considered to be a 'feminine' quality/responsibility
-drafted into war cause women are considered to be too weak to fight in a war and men are supposed to be the protectors and providers in a patriarchy
etc.
