I really like how the woman wearing the Niqab is liberal and the woman without Hijab is conservative because it just goes to show how different every Muslim is.
I mean what even is a Liberal or Conservative muslim? A muslim is someone who submits themselves to the creator and adheres to his commands, the niqabi said she considers herself Liberal because Conservative muslims (born into islam) are more intune with their culture, but with that logic wouldn't that make the Niqabi a Conservative because she follows Islam fully and not a culture
that niqab wearing 'liberal' muslim was a typical conservative. She'd be a conservative christian, if she'd still held that faith. Not a single one opinion that she expressed could be considered liberal in any shape or form. Thank you for saying that. In Islam, we perform our daily prayers in Arabic even if it's not our native language. The Quran as a whole is also written in Arabic. For non-Arabs like me, we learn the Arabic alphabets & pronunciations early on to recite the Quran. It's also very common to have dual-language versions to help us understand the verses.

As someone who would identify himself as a "liberal muslim" listening to Jad clears some points in my head. He is very well read and can recite from our book relating to each topic which is really impressive. Great video and great debaters overall!
The problem is that he isn't well-read in much else, given that he isn't aware of the many claims in the Quran that are now known to be false. For instance, take the story of Noah's ark. When millions of animals got off the ark at Mount Judi, it would not have been possible for them to migrate back to their respective areas of the globe in only a few thousand years (and without leaving any colonies en route). It isn't possible for one person to have collected millions of different species of animals from every forest, desert, tundra, and grassland on the planet, whilst keeping all these animals together and fed, before them all onto a single boat. This is notwithstanding the fact that there's no geologic evidence of a global flood. Remember, a message from an all-knowing being should not contain any errors. Even if one exists, then the claims of divine authorship aren’t true.
But for the sake of argument, also take a look at the way the Quran talks about the 'creation' of the Earth and universe [41:9-12]. The timescales are completely wrong (they're said to have been formed in only thousands of years), and the Earth is even claimed to have existed before the rest of the universe. Or consider the human genesis story of Adam and Eve, which biology disproves. Or consider the fanciful claim that Muhammed split the moon in half. There’s no evidence of this ever happening, nor any record from anywhere else on the planet of this ever happening.
Also, though less damning than the factual errors, another cause for serious doubt is how the Quran doesn’t mention anything about the world that wasn’t already known (or thought to be true) by 7th-century Arabs. There’s no notion of other planets, stars, or galaxies when speaking about the universe. No notion of fertilisation between the sperm and an egg when speaking about embryology. No notion of the evolutionary process when speaking about the ‘creation’ of plants and non-human animals. No notion of past human species when speaking about human origins. Allah’s apparent ignorance in the Quran happens to apply to every facet of knowledge that wouldn’t have been known by Muhammed. There’s not even any mention of animals or plants that Muhammed would not have known about. It’s almost as if the Quran was written by 7th-century Arabs.
I find it strange that some people like to hyper focus on one of two lines of religious texts while ignoring entire passages. For example, the way conservative Christians will hyper focus on homosexuality being a sin and will continually quote that one line in the bible but then completely ignore the fact that it also says eating meat and dairy together is a sin, mixing fabrics is a sin, touching the skin of a pig is a sin. Like why are you not outside McDonalds protesting against cheeseburgers.
However, I think Muslims definitely in this day are more strict with their religion compared to Christians. We also have sins which are major compared to those which are minor sins.
@@elliellthey are referring to Christian’s that cite the same book in the Bible forbidding homosexuality. The point that Mahmoud made about the religion being perfected is so true and many Muslims forget that today. You can’t change the rulings of the religion to what you see fit. It is perfected and complete and authentic. No Muslim can argue with Allah’s word, which is final.

Imagine giving up thinking for believing lol color me galvanized 😂😂😂
The sheer ignorance of saying homosexuality is a sin in every other religion. Simply not true. Confucianism allowed for same-sex love and affairs so long as household duties were upheld, Buddhism (particularly Zen) is full of stories of male monks falling for young men and learning about the transience of beauty from these encounters, ancient Greek and Roman religions were famously libertine in this respect, etc. It's really just the Abrahamic faiths that have a hangup about this, partly because they're copying one another, and even that has plenty of exceptions.
"Abrahamic faiths" and not even really. Like, the food that is prohibited is "all animals-and the products of animals-that do not chew the cud and do not have cloven hoofs (e.g., pigs and horses); fish without fins and scales; the blood of any animal; shellfish (e.g., clams, oysters, shrimp, crabs) and all other living creatures that creep; and those fowl enumerated in the Bible (e.g., vultures, hawks, owls, herons)" but people often eat those anyway.

Reverts don't necessarily get a proper understanding of Islam, sometimes their teachers or the people around them that are Muslim will give them bad takes, and because they are new, they don't know any better. True Christians are the same way. We can live our lives according to the Scriptures. We are dedicated to defending God's truth and sharing the Gospel. Unfortunately, most Western Christians are lazy and ignorant. And many are not actually Christians but simply go to church or had Christian grandparents. True Christians are just as dedicated to and knowledgeable of Scripture as these Muslims are about the Qur'an. So yeah...there's that.

Afghanistan and Pakistan have by far the highest rates of 1st cousin marriage in the world followed by Arab countries. Pakistanis in the UK make up 600% more than their population share of infant mortalities or complications due to genetic illnesses in hospital records. Same
As someone who would identify himself as a "liberal muslim" listening to Jad clears some points in my head. He is very well read and can recite from our book relating to each topic which is really impressive. Great video and great debaters overall!
are there any specific issues?

@@katlegodidit lol I'm a muslim and would love to know what "we" call them secretly?
10:40 I have nothing but respect for the way the director recognised when their participants had arrived at an ideological impasse -- and when to step in vs. when to hold back.
The Takeaway Lesson Being:
_When you're trying to de-escalate a religious disagreement (so everyone can regroup and move forward) ...*your timing and tone of voice can be EVERYTHING*_
They werent escalating
It was purely the liberal cultist natalie
The problem is that Nathalie is essentially searching for any opportunity and creating her own version of Islam. I may even agree with some or many of her views but the problem is that she is being disengenous by not accepting the reality of the religion, it’s teachings and practices.
This 👆🏿
True
Exactly she’s nitpicking what she wants and what she doesn’t
Aren't we all doing that though? By what moral stance do you choose to not take children brides when in so many other parts of the world other Muslims who will say their adherence to the Quran is far better than yours - will you tell them to stop taking child wives?
Or do we not pick and choose and therefore let even the most extremist, literal interpretations of the Quran to prevail (think about Sharia law, the female apartheid happening in Iran/Afghanistan/etc, gay people being murdered). Or do you say we excuse all of it bc it is the purest interpretation of the Quran..
@@animenome308 I of course disagree with all of those terrible practices. My point was simply, say if i was arguing Nathalies point, for me to be truthful I would say that Im am a muslim but I am redefining or reforming the religion. Its not useful to try and deny the words and practices that already exist. instead just move forward with saying there aspects of the religion that i choose to ignore, or move away from. Of course many muslims would push back on/disagree with her points but at least it would be clear what her motivations are and where shes coming from. Like i said I am not criticizing or even disagreeing with her views, just how she goes about them.
funny how this video was 23 minutes (and some parts were either rushed or cut off) while other middle ground videos were 40 minute or more. i wonder how much of what was said has been cut off.
Natalie's understanding of Islam and what is mentioned in the Qur'an is completely different because she relies on her personal understanding and beliefs about things
do you know anything about islam? or stating it because the rest of the panel subtly passed of their personal biases as God's word without any accountability.
Yea she warps it to fit her own narrative instead of taking it for what it is.
@@PabloE933 just like the muslim men throughout history to condemn homosexuality and the rights of women
@@imeaniguessbutkindaeh muslim men never interprets nothing, we have our scriptures which clearly tells us about homosexuality and regarding women rights, we are not liberals, we don't give a damn about these rights thing because Islam is about submission.
@@imeaniguessbutkindaeh except that's not true... they literally go back to the earliest sources and how they interpreted the book, nothing to do with their narratives. If that was the case there would literally be thousand's of different narratives throughout history about the quran
The way jad pulled up w so many ayats to back his points also. U got to love it 😂😂 subhanallah.
She’s sticking to verses without his own conscience you mean? That’s called being in a cult. Every thing & every scripture has various interpretations. & that’s what makes someone intellectual about how they interpret it. The way that Gay muslim woman expressed her way of interpreting the verses & at the same time being in the boundaries of islam was more intelligent than just taking those verses for what they are without using your own conscience. That’s what distinguishes a religion from a cult. & majority of muslims are in a cult. Same goes for christians
@@udhav423 muslims believe the Quran isnt wrong so why would anyone want to use their conscience and go against it? shes using her conscience to make herself feel accepted into the fold of islam when its extremely clear in the Quran. if youre trying to use your "conscience" to make "interpretations" that are against the Quran, go ahead and do it but, however it doesnt mean your interpretation is correct
@@udhav423 she gave her personal opinion as if she’s studies the deen for longer than the scholars, gave unreliable sources and didn’t even link it back to the quran. she didn’t state fact, but a personal belief
@@udhav423 there's always a Hindu coming to say some nonsense.
What that girl said basically makes her a disbeliever, the others didn't want to upset her so they didn't say anything. She is basically saying fornication, which is a major sin, is permissible, and that would make her a disbeliever. Sex between anyone other than husband and wife is fornication.
@@udhav423 interpreting what verses? She literally knew no verses in Arabic, was paraphrasing verses and honestly had no idea what she was talking about
How I loved listening to the two young Muslims, Muhammad and Jad
Jad and Mahmoud were so honorable & respectable in this video. Loved listening to them
Those shouldnt be this only criteria for analysing debate. lots of people are respectable but have incredibly hypocritical beliefs.

Jad and Mahmoud really impressed me with their knowledge and recitation. Everyone's pov was well presented. These conversations really help you to empathize with and understand the mindset of various groups (even if you don't necessarily agree).
I will never empathize with people who think people like me shouldn't exist in the world. It's their like that make life harder for us queer folks in the Middle East.

I’m a Christian watching this, and I almost envy how dedicated, and respectful all them are when it comes to the Islam religion. I love when mahumod (I’m sorry for misspelling that) said “our personal opinion doesn’t matter when it comes to the religion” and I wish more people who say that they’re either Christian, Muslim, or whatever other religion, would think this way, and be as dedicated as they are. I genuinely loved this debate 😊❤

As an Asian, I do wish that Jubilee's view of Muslims are expanded. Usually their videos on Islam are only represented by people from the Middle East. We've got a lot of Muslims too in Southeast Asia! Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, and Malaysia also has a majority of Muslims within their population. Tbh it's a bit surprising that they haven't realised this as a lot of their employees are Asians.
the middle east is in Asia..
Because most of the Muslim diaspora in the west isn’t south East Asian. Most Muslims in the west are arabs and south Asians
@@user-lu2jk1yo3k yes sorry I should have clarified! I've amended it to Southeast Asia instead, thanks for the correction! 😺

At around 7:40 when Jad said that "there are a couple of different points that you said that I want to rebuttal and respond to." And I believe that is the most respectful thing you can say to someone when discussing serious matters you don't agree with!
Being mean truly gets no where when trying to discuss and talk reasonably with others
@@VoiceofReason99Stating facts about major sins, is not being “mean”. You wouldn’t stutter when speaking about alcohol, interest or Zina, so why when it comes to homosexuality, people are made to walk on eggshells. It is literally a sin in every major religion.
@@HomeTravelGardenInspo because the Deen has to be conveyed slowly and easily. The Prophet (SAW) didn't have many rulings today in effect when Islam was first made, such as the prohibition of alcohol which only came later when it became easier for the ummah. Obviously homosexuality is a full stop sin, but I'm just saying that it's a sensitive topic and in a case like this, being mean rather is worse than compassionate while being within Islam's boundaries.

@4:25. "Is it going to come to incest next?"
Something tells me that this guy doesn't understand that marrying your uncle/aunt or first cousin is incest. Mohammed married off one of his daughters to his own brother. Why? It's because the people (or just him?) of that era chose to define incest as sex between immediate family like parents and siblings.
Afghanistan and Pakistan have by far the highest rates of 1st cousin marriage in the world followed by Arab countries. Pakistanis in the UK make up 600% more than their population share of infant mortalities or complications due to genetic illnesses in hospital records.
Banging your uncle/aunt or 1st cousins is incest. It's not an opinion. It's science.
When it comes to science, your opinion doesn't matter.
Prophet Mohamed (pbuh) didn’t have any siblings. Please check your facts. Marrying aunts/uncles or grandparents or even stepparents is forbidden in islam.
I would just like to mention that I truly respect this video. It is such an intense topic and it takes so much courage to spell out everything that you feel no matter which side you're on. There were parts where I wanted to yell questions at some of them but it truly helps to see arguments in such a setting. I love the psychology of it all.

@Nobo wow were you born in 1500s? What is wrong with liberal muslims?
Thank you for letting us hear Nathalie's complete response regarding homosexuality.
Yep. It opens our minds to other "conservative muslims" about what liberal muslims actually stand for and their values. Let them expose themselves for what they truly are.
@@lil_jong-un6668 Let's *who* expose themselves? If you ask me, it really exposed the conservative muslims as personally homophobic, meaning they are personally uncomfortable with homosexuality and that's why they interpret the Quran to be against it. People who aren't uncomfortable with homosexuality personally won't interpret the Quran in such a way. Nathalie's correct when she says every single human reads a text and interprets it themselves. There is no "god's interpretation", there is only *your* interpretation of something that was written by--guess who--other humans. The only way that it "exposed" liberal muslims is showing that they believe love is love, and that we shouldn't persecute people because of who they love. That's wrong.

It was narrated that Ibn ‘Abbaas said: “The Prophet (peace and blessings
upon him) said “cursed is the one who does the action of the people of Lut.”
(Narrated by Ahmad, 1878.).
What i found very interesting is that Jad seemed to be the most intune with his belief yet still considered conservative. You can tell he studied and came prepared for any point he had!
That’s the problem tho, he has no frame of reference. He’s unable to detach himself for a second from what the kuraan says and see both the Muslim and non Muslim world and how they’ve evolved.
He hasn’t studied anything really he’s just chanting verses that elude to slavery while saying that kurran shouldn’t be reinterpreted, and yet he doesn’t see how hippo critical that is.
I think that people like jad are exactly what’s wrong with every religion out there, they omit any critical thought and follow blindly, never really seeing the world.
It’s sad really
@@zineddinebelgaid7303 and if someone were to tell you that jad might be seeing the world more clearly than yourself would you still find it, really sad. You say that he has no frame of reference, while seeing as he is a muslim im pretty sure what his frame of reference is, but, i would be interested to know what yours is? For someone so open minded you make a lot of assumptions of jad from just watching him talk for a few minutes, its as if you have him figured out, even going as far as to say that people like jad is what is wrong with religion. Maybe he has gone through the process of seeing things from different view points and has come to the conclusion that islam is the truth, did that even cross your mind.
@@zineddinebelgaid7303 It is a false notion to suggest that "every religion" limits critical thought and encourages blind following. Rather in Islam, we are taught to ponder, reflect, and analyze in our search for truth. Furthermore we have rational arguments for the veracity of Islam, and if one disagrees with it they can bring forth their own arguments and we would present our case for why Islam is true.
And with regards to reinterpretation, we believe Islam is a religion for all times. While yes, the fundamental source of the shariah is fixed, what many may forget to mention is that the shariah gives some room for flexibility in _how_ exactly it may be implemented, thus staying relevant for all ages and places.
@@AJ-np9fn if jad had gone through the process of seing that Islam is the truth, if he had explored these matters on a less theological and strict matter, or even just explored them at all. He’s arguments would actually be arguments, that means statements founded in a thought process that he can then explain. I don’t need to know jad personally to know that he is close minded, he adheres to these verses by the letter without realising how hypocritical that is when he sites the verse that references slavery.
Also don’t make this about me, I can sense that your a bit agressive, its not my fault if you have a hard time digesting other opinions
@@AJ-np9fn you clearly are missunderstanding what a frame of reference is. A frame of reference isn’t following blindly what someone tells you, it’s having the maturity to stop and think about these issues using his values his arguments and his experience. I just didn’t see that from him, he just sites the curran and everyone keeps saying he’s so smart for that, not to say that siting the Curran isn’t important in this context.
