I saw in the theater when I was 6 yrs old. It’s one of the only memories I vividly have from my childhood. It was chaos in the theater. Im from Philadelphia as well & Rocky is a mythical legend in this city still to this day.
I saw this in theaters when it was released. I was 13. When Rocky cut Drago, the whole theater erupted in cheers. I've never experienced anything like that in a theater before or since. It was an absolutely awesome experince.
The music in this movie is beyond perfection, everything that Rocky built in the previous movie on the line for this one, very emotional from Apollo scene to the speech at the end, this movie is great 🔥
i was ten when i watched Rocky 4 at the theatre, believe me when i tell you the people in the theatre were going crazy , cheering, yelling, crying , it was loud and i have never witnessed another movie having that effect on the theatre , for anyone else that watched it back in 1985 in theatres , you know what i am talking about.
Great reaction as always Verdy !! This was filmed during the Cold War between the USA and the Soviet Union in the 1980s. I saw this movie at the theaters in 1985. When this was being filmed Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) was dating Ludmilla Drago ( Brigitte Nelson) who was the wife of Drago in this movie. Cheers from Texas and have a great day Verdy.
"Drago's suite" It was such a bad ass intro. It gave you "machine man" vibes. They Rocky driving his car with "no easy way out" and final the best training montage ever filmed. The music un Rocky's movies were always perfect
Toma mi like desde CHILE. Rocky IV la vi en cine en 1986. Todos aplaudimos al final dentro del cine, yo con 9 años de edad, nací el mismo año que Rocky I. Me crie con esa saga, y con las películas de Sylvester Stallone.
My sweet Verdy. Apollo´s dead was heartbreaking. This one is my favourite (loving all except the fifth, just good). This one also has an incredible OST (No easy way out, Training Montage, Burning Heart, Hearts on Fire...) courtesy of Robert Tepper, Vince Dicola, Survivor and John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band.
In 2021 while we were all locked down with the covid thing, Sly Stallone re-cut and produced a directors cut this move Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago. It's worth checking out as there quite a bit of diffrence between the 1985 version and the director cut. The directors cut got better reviews than the 1985 version. The training montage was filmed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, No one from the west went to Russian in 1985 unless you really had to. Other filing locations were Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, LA, Las Vegas and Nevada.
This came out in 1985 while we were still very deep into the Cold War and when Rocky finally landed that punch on Drago the entire theater erupted. Also, Bullet for my Valentine did a great cover of No Easy Way Out if you're interested.
Fun fact. They did toy with the idea of having Apollo live, and he just ended up being physically disabled to where he ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. There was an arc in this film where he resented Rocky for throwing the towel, and how upset he was that he'd have to spend the remaining years of his life in a wheelchair. I forget why they changed it to him just outright being dead, but I believe Stallone even said he wish he had gone the route of having Apollo just end up in a wheelchair instead. Either way, I love this film. Granted, it's not as great story wise compared to some of the other Rocky films like the first three obviously, or even arguably the sixth one in "Rocky Balboa." But, I think it's a very emotional film imo. Plus, I feel like the music for this movie in particular plays more of a prominent role.
I saw the Rocky movies out of order. IV was the first one I saw, then III, then I, then II. Weird, I know, but I was a kid watching cable. But that also meant that I watched those first 3 knowing what was going to happen to Apollo and Mick.
One interesting fact about this film (I have quite a few) is that the female screams you hear from the crowd (first round) in the Apollo fight were REAL from extras as people thought Carl Weathers was really being beaten to a pulp. People thought Dolph was going to kill him. That’s how real the fight choreography was in this film.
I originally watched soccer reactions on this channel but I’m happy where the direction of this channel is going with movie reactions as well. I enjoy hearing what you have to add to these films. You are interesting to me😊 support from Toronto
I'm glad you got to see this movie. Very 80s. Vince Di Cola's soundtrack is one of my favs along with "The Transformers: The Movie" (1986) soundtrack too. I know Rocky 4's music so well that I know what is happening in the movie by just listening to the soundtrack. I feel like it is very important to see Rocky 5 so you can see the aftermath this fight along with new challenges.
My favorite of the Rocky movies. First time I saw it, I was terrified of Drago because they made him look almost like an indestructible Terminator. Fun facts: The exterior shots of Russia where Rocky trains were filmed in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The mountain Rocky climbs are two mountains next to each other because one has a waffle restaurant at the top. The final fight in Moscow was actually shot at The PNE Agrodome in Vancouver. At one point during filming of the fight, Dolph punched Sly so hard in the chest, his heart started to swell and he had to be taken to the hospital.
Loved watching your reaction to this movie and your emotional responses, whether happy or sad, they just seem genuine and take me back to the first time I saw this movie (like your other reactions). Also props to your editor for all of the side note additions. Also, I think you should continue with this series including Rocky 5.
you're right, James Brown, I remember in the summer of '85, Rocky 4 made this song a big hit for him, it almost relaunched his career. By the way, the winter scenes in Russia were filmed outside Vancouver--so you're spot on with your winter in Canada. No need to tell you where it is (I saw your Québec shirt in other reactions, so you already know. I'm from Montreal). Anyway, thanks for your reaction & Have a nice day. Last thing, since you asked: the needle=steroids injections.
Adrian was the one person who cannot tell him he can’t win. Those words could have gotten him killed. Anyone else can tell a man that, but his woman can not. He has to believe he is her champion. That he’s an unstoppable force, and she’s the one who gives him that
I like to think if Adrian hadn't gone to Russia to support Rocky, then that's exactly what would've happened. I think even Adrian realized that while he was gone, and she knew he was going to fight Drago no matter what she wanted. That's why she went to Russia to support him in the end because that would give him his best chance to survive against an unstoppable force like Ivan Drago.
From Wikipedia: "Burning Heart", which is about an "all or nothing" battle, was inspired by the Cold War, as shown by lyrics such as "Is it East versus West?" and "Can any nation stand alone?" The Communist East versus Capitalist West conflict is reflected in the film by the fight in the boxing ring between Rocky and Ivan Drago.
The moment you see the change in Ivan Drago is when he says Rocky is like a piece of iron. It’s at that moment that Drago starts to show Rocky the respect.
The guy who plays Drago, his name is Dolph Lundgren, and he is an actual Black Belt in Karate. During the filming of Rocky 4: Sylvester asked Dolph to punch him 1 time as hard as he can, cause he wanted to feel how hard/strong he actually was. After that 1 punch, Sylvester ended in the ICU for 9 days.
Sylvester Stallone asked Dolph to really fight him for footage for the movie, but I think it was not one punch, it was 15 seconds. Still, very impressive from Dolph's actual power, though.
I watched that movie in the theaters, I remember the times and there were people criticizing the more modern methods of training, I always use the example of Jack Lambert, the most terrifying Linebacker of his time, by today's standards with metrics for how much they bench, how much they weight, how high the can jump, he would have not been picked. But statistics can hardly measure heart and attitude. Also remembering those times, I find logical that the Politburo that they liked Rocky's speech, because American's used to make speeches about "we will always win because we stand for the right things, not like communists", so a message of everybody changing together might not have been their preference, but much better than what they could have been feared was the government-prepared speech.
Hi Verdy, I think i did say that i am a new Patreon. I watched this video on your Patreon. I use tv cast from my phone to my 75inch tv 😊. I also asked i hope you can please play Robocop - 1987 & Robocop 2 & 3. A newer Robocop was i think in 2014. But i like the old Robocop movies more because the new one looked a leather suit. But the 2014 Robocop is not bad. 👍🏽
The 2014 Robocop was okay, but I think the original film holds up better because...well I don't want to go into detail because I don't want to spoil it for the lady. However, I will say that a story is more interesting when you lose almost everything you love, while struggling to maintain your humanity, than a story about a man losing his humanity while fighting to keep those he loves in his life if that makes sense.
I think you mean there's only two more rocky films, and a creed trilogy that's a spin off film series of the rocky franchise. They're all worth watching imo, even Rocky V. I think if you're a die hard boxing fan, or a former one like me, then you'll love some of the social commentary on corrupt figures in boxing at the time like the caricature of Don King in the film. Or how it covers subject matter of what a lot sports athletes tend to go through when they're career reaches a certain point in their lives if you know what I mean. I don't want to spell it out because I don't want to spoil it for Verdy, but still. And even if you never followed boxing, it's still worth checking out because it covers a chapter in Rocky's life that's crucial to his character in a lot of ways. And, I love how it showed how the events of "Rocky IV" impacted his life.
I hope you do a reaction to Rocky V. It's not as good as the other movies, but it's still worth watching because it does have some moments in the movie that are intersting. Plus, it acts as sort of an epilogue to the events of this movie, as the events of "Rocky IV" tend to impact Rocky way more than this film lets on. I'll leave it at that. Great reaction as always.
To answer your question Verdy, no, it is not legal in boxing to pick up your opponent and throw them across the ring. Drago commits some extreme fouls in both of his fights that would easily disqualify him.
😺Verdy!!! 😺 Here's a sound track from a movie: Eddie & The Cruisers - Soundtrack album by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band; There is also: "Eddie & The Cruisers II: Eddie Lives" Soundtrack album by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band. Ya might want to react to the tracks and then the movies!
Great reaction as always Verdy! After "Rocky 5" and "Rocky 6/Rocky Balboa" - PLEASE, PLEASE be the first to react to Stallone's 1981 film "NIGHTHAWKS"! THEE MOST UNDERRATED COP MOVIE OF ALL TIME, with Stallone as a New York cop fighting terrorism in America 20 years before 9-11-2001! Enjoy!
What's funny to me is neither Dolph Lundgren who plays Drago nor the actress who played his wife are Russian. Fun Fact: Sylvester Stalone used to be married to the actress playing Drago's wide. She co-starred in the movie Cobra with him and starred alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger in Red Sonja. She got on drugs and was on a reality show called Celebrity Rehab where she hooked up with the rapper Flava Flave.
If Rocky's brain didn't resemble pounded raw hamburger before Drago, it certainly did after!!! Rocky becomes a superhero in this cinematic masterpiece.
He does, as this was briefly alluded to in "Creed II", the rocky film series spin off. However, we shouldn't go into detail about it, as Verdy still hasn't seen the last two rocky films yet, nor the first Creed film, so we'll get to it when we get to it.
USA vs Russia 1- Matt Kennard "Resisting US Hegemony" 2- Andrei Jikh "The New World order in Finance" 3- Inside China Business "China is completing a Global ports network for BRICS"
I disagree. I think she should watch Rocky V because it does act as an epilogue to Rocky IV. Plus, it does have some strong moments too. I think if you honestly take out the Tommy Gunn aspects to the film, then it would've worked a lot better. But then again, I know Stallone and MGM probably feel you can't have a Rocky movie without some fight for Rocky to have, so he was thrown in. Overall, I think "Rocky V" is a good movie. Not great, but it's worth watching at least once if you're a fan of the movies imo.
It would not have mattered IF Rocky threw in the towel to stop the Drago vs Creed fight. Ivan Drago was punching after the bell in round one and the referee would have been too slow to save Apollo. (Rocky should have stopped the fight right after round one, when Ivan was in his corner away from Apollo).
I know Stallone mentioned he wished he had made Apollo somehow survive the fight. I think if he had it might've ruined the flow of the movie because at this point in the series, Rocky is literally at the peak of his life. He's no longer struggling financially, or who he is anymore. He doesn't have to prove anything, as he's already proven himself in the previous films by that point. In fact, Rocky could've easily not fought Drago, and nobody would've condemned him for it. However, Rocky is old school, and he was from the streets, so he wasn't going to let that pass. Unlike the death of Mickey, who died mostly due to his age, this death hurt Rocky a bit more because Apollo didn't die of natural causes. He died in the ring. And even though I'm sure Rocky didn't throw in the towel because he wanted to honor Apollo's wishes, I'm sure part of him also felt a bit guilty about not throwing the towel sooner. Therefore, he wanted to go old school on Drago, and hurt him as badly as Drago hurt Creed in that ring. I think because Rocky was already at a high point in his life the only motivation to keep the story focused on Rocky by that point would be his quest for revenge against Drago in this film. If they had kept Apollo alive, I think it would've taken away focus from Rocky and his journey to fight Drago imo. But on the other hand, I think it would've added a layer and complexity in Creed 2 for varying other reasons, but I won't get into it in case Verdy is reading these comments, but every rocky/creed fan that's reading these comments should know what I'm talking about.
I saw in the theater when I was 6 yrs old. It’s one of the only memories I vividly have from my childhood. It was chaos in the theater. Im from Philadelphia as well & Rocky is a mythical legend in this city still to this day.
Sure he’s a legend and an inspiration, i did the steps and visited the statue and I’m from Germany
I saw this in theaters when it was released. I was 13. When Rocky cut Drago, the whole theater erupted in cheers. I've never experienced anything like that in a theater before or since. It was an absolutely awesome experince.

I just watched the Tyson/Paul boxing match live on Netflix. This movie was closer to real boxing than the match I just watched.
Damn Netflix ...had to go to Twitch‼🤬
I did too... lol. Agreed!
It was just sad to see 😢
@@matteovrizzi Yeah, but I was glad to see the woman's bout just before it. That was a savage fight.
Rigged!

Was akin to Marvel Avengers Endgame, remember pps on the theater getting up and screaming along, good times
Well made Reaganite Cold war propaganda

I really enjoy your editors side commentary
I don't
Thanks for allowing me to go on this Rocky ride with you ⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️✨⭐️

I was a extra for Rocky 4 as someone in the crowd for the fight scene at the end. It was so fun
im pretty sure this is the best training montage ever put together, awesome soundtrack too!
Thank you Verdy.
This came out in 1985 while we were still very deep into the Cold War and when Rocky finally landed that punch on Drago the entire theater erupted. Also, Bullet for my Valentine did a great cover of No Easy Way Out if you're interested.

Love that at your age, you know the lyrics to Survivor songs . Way before your time. 🤯😳😁❤️❤️❤️
Not seeing Verdy react to the music after Apollo's death was very surprising.
I love Verdy's reactions, they are so honest and authentic.

Who would have thought that sweet and gentle Verdy would love boxing.😊
It was filmed in Canada, they used the Pacific Colosseum in Vancouver for the fights.

The moment you see the change in Ivan Drago is when he says Rocky is like a piece of iron. It’s at that moment that Drago starts to show Rocky the respect.
This movie was made during the 80s when Gorbachev was in power and it was a great message politically
15:12...James Brown "Living in America"!!!🇺🇸🎶🎶🎶🎶
The guy who plays Drago, his name is Dolph Lundgren, and he is an actual Black Belt in Karate.
During the filming of Rocky 4:
Sylvester asked Dolph to punch him 1 time as hard as he can, cause he wanted to feel how hard/strong he actually was.
After that 1 punch, Sylvester ended in the ICU for 9 days.
Sylvester Stallone asked Dolph to really fight him for footage for the movie, but I think it was not one punch, it was 15 seconds.
Still, very impressive from Dolph's actual power, though.
I f...cry every single time, apollo's death always gets me
I watched that movie in the theaters, I remember the times and there were people criticizing the more modern methods of training, I always use the example of Jack Lambert, the most terrifying Linebacker of his time, by today's standards with metrics for how much they bench, how much they weight, how high the can jump, he would have not been picked.
Beautiful Movie
I used to love the low budget sci-fi action movie starring Dolph Lundgren, I Come in Peace.
With Matthias Hues. He has some great stories about the film in his book. 🙌
1. Adrienne was the only one that got better looking
2. The match at teh end was filmed in Vancouver's Agrodome.
Very good verdy, great and sincere reaction, good that you liked 4, I hope you like 5 too, I will wait for your reaction. PS: Apollo will be missed
There is a fifth and a sixth Rocky, but also a seventh and eighth that I feel deserve to be included. And also a ninth that's pretty decent.

The best of the lot for me. After this they are still worth doing but this is the last of the key ones.
While filming Dolf hit dy accident Stalone in the chest and send him to hospital, Dolf was in martial arts.
to bop or not to bop, that is the question
😂 Very good.
Well done!
"Looks like winter in Canada",Pretty sure "Russia" here IS Canada lol
Hello from Edmonton ❤
I hope you do a reaction to Rocky V. It's not as good as the other movies, but it's still worth watching because it does have some moments in the movie that are intersting. Plus, it acts as sort of an epilogue to the events of this movie, as the events of "Rocky IV" tend to impact Rocky way more than this film lets on. I'll leave it at that. Great reaction as always.
To answer your question Verdy, no, it is not legal in boxing to pick up your opponent and throw them across the ring. Drago commits some extreme fouls in both of his fights that would easily disqualify him.
True, but they did say the fight wasn't sanctioned, so it wasn't counted as a professional boxing match. It was an exhibition.
You're channel is epic. Rocky is different. He fights for Apollo. ROCKY IS EPIC. THERE'S ONLY THING THAT CAN Make Rocky mad
You caught him❤🥊
Great reaction!! Please do 'Equilibrium - 2002'.
Hola hermosa me encanto esta pelicula y tu reaccion saludos desde Argentina😊.

Best xmas movie Ever haha !!
can't go wrong with rutger hauer, dolph lungren movies.
Enjoy!

Yes!!
Fun Fact - Ludmilla Drago "Brigitte Nielsen" was Stallone's wife in real life.
The fight is about vengeance
You are phenomenal ❤️ 🥋💪🏽💪🏻❤️👌🏽
No given the joke Paulie said about sunset Id say probably Alaska
Jackson Hole, Wyoming and Grand Teton National Park.
22:03 I used to hate watching this until they made Creed. 😢
Bons tempos❤
Never be scared kid. Trust me these people around you don't have your heart
I lost so many times that I know how to win
It's time, rock let's get it on.
Drago was definitely juicing. Though the guy can play the hero or the villain and has definitely made a living out of acting.
lol Youre adorable. you have a nice smile.
Move of line you can catch
If Rocky's brain didn't resemble pounded raw hamburger before Drago, it certainly did after!!! Rocky becomes a superhero in this cinematic masterpiece.
If I remember correctly, Drogo suffered serious consequences for losing.
He does, as this was briefly alluded to in "Creed II", the rocky film series spin off. However, we shouldn't go into detail about it, as Verdy still hasn't seen the last two rocky films yet, nor the first Creed film, so we'll get to it when we get to it.
N'oublie pas de voir aussi les films Creed. Vu que c'est la suite de Rocky 6
USA vs Russia
1- Matt Kennard "Resisting US Hegemony"
2- Andrei Jikh "The New World order in Finance"
3- Inside China Business "China is completing a Global ports network for BRICS"
48:45 Drago "what the f**k?"
Now Verdy take my word for it. skip Rocky 5 and go straight to Rocky Balboa. Who is with me?
I agree , 5 just doesn’t do it for me.
I disagree, even though it's the weakest movie of them all, it's worth watching at least once.
Rocky V is a MUST watch!!! Fantastic

The best thing about this movie is the Russian anthem 42:02 😀
Good Grief 😔
