This was an intense reaction from Coby. Fitting for an intense movie! I was surprised that she didn’t make the Skyhook connection with The Thunderball 007 film. Nice work.✨
My theory is he didn't know who the Batman would go for. But he knew switching the address would mean Batman would always loose no matter who he chose to go for.
@sumanchaudhari2089 maybe... But he specifically said "You and his little bunny". He didn't know Bruce was Batman but he knew Batman was somewhat involved with her due to the focus he put on her. Unfortunately, the Joker, even though he is unhinged... Was very intelligent as he was portrayed in this film.
@@sumanchaudhari2089my goodness it's amazing how many people did not get that , The joker gave Batman a choice in the correct choice would be to save Harvey dent by choosing Harvey he would have saved Rachel without realizing it .the point was to show that Batman is also corrupt and his corruption is being biased
@@watching..........6494 You're right but I hate the negative connotation of the word bias these days, like it would be wrong to save someone you love.
The Joker is a true maniacal genius. He was laughing hysterically because he thought he won by getting Batman to kill him...he was laughing and welcoming his own death. What a haunting and mesmerizing performance by Heath Ledger.
@ one could argue it’s a double entendre tho, he’s laughing because he thought he won in that moment, but also because of the timing of what he said and what he felt was about to happen. The Joker loves to make his own punchlines with physical violence. This time it was going to be done for him
I didn't notice till I did a marathon of all 3 movies in the theater, ending with the midnight release of DKR, but in all 3 movies the Title doesn't drop until the end of the movie.
@@aTofuJunkie You know, I never thought of that. I guess you aren't able to request wroking specific screens showing specific movies? You get to be around movies all the time, but you don't get to pick which ones.
@ that is another possibility. It does conceivably fit in with the Joker’s mind set. But remember he said “killing is making a choice, choosing one life over the other.” But then he did tell Harvey, “ the thing about chaos, it’s fair”.
It took me years to realize that when The Joker torches all that money he don't care about, the Chinese money guy must still be sitting on top of the pile to burn to death unseen. No camera pans up there. And the gangster with the killer dogs only looks to all that sweet money going up in flames, never up towards his dying accountant. I lost sleep that night all that first dawned on me.
I didn’t see a comment about it but, the Joker doesn’t know who Batman is. He just knows there’s a relationship between Batman and Rachel. That’s why he switched the address because he knew whoever Batman is, cared for Rachel enough to give him a dilemma of saving someone he loved or saving Dent which is supposed to be the good choice.
Exactly. He doesn’t know who he is. When he threw Rachel from the window, Batman didn’t hesitate to throw himself to save her. The Joker then understood that Rachel was someone Batman was willing to give his life for.
@@carl_anderson9315 is it? I mean in any case it would be a bad look for him in a room full of Gotham's elite to see the city's assistant D.A. get thrown out a window and Batman not act. He would have to jump out after her as he would for anyone else.
@@coconut_knight7259 Rachel was supposed to die no matter what. Joker used her death to push Dent over the edge. Once the Mob was arrested the Jokers endgame became Dent. If Dent became a criminal, then all of his cases would thrown out, releasing them all. The fact that he knew their was something between Rachael and Batman was just a bonus, their was no dilemma and their was never a choice. Joker was gonna make sure Dent survived.
@ you’re just stating what happened in the movie. The Joker had multiple plans if one aspect of his failed, which some did in the movie. Killing Dent in the penthouse party failed and so did him trying to assassinate the mayor. Him switching the addresses just makes sure he wins plus the added bonus of giving Batman psychological damage from his choices in hopes he would break. If Rachel lives and Dent dies then Batman failed in giving Gotham its best hope, if Dent lives and Rachel dies then we get what happened in the movie.
The joker didn't necessarily give him reverse information he gave him a choice to make and Bruce chose incorrectly which makes Bruce/Batman also corrupted in this case his corruption would be being biased. had he chose the correct person to save which was Harvey dent he would have actually saved Rachel without realizing it that was the entire point of why joker gave him this so called reverse information . So many people miss that in the movie . Rachel died because of Bruce's corruption not because the joker killed her although she died by the joker's hands physically I understand that but she wouldn't have had Bruce done the right thing. I'm not sure if you understand that or not
@@watching..........6494 I got the impression Joker gave Batman the wrong address knowing he`d try to rescue Rachel , instead finding Harvey. Rachel dies and in doing so the Joker completes his goal in turning a good man bad.
Heath Ledger was amazing. I still remember where I was when the news broke that he died. I went and saw this in the theater with my brother and it was an unforgettable viewing experience. Thank you, Heath Ledger. You are missed. I love when Dent makes the remark about either dying a hero or living long enough to see yourself become the villain. That is one of my favorite lines ever from a movie. The end is what gets me every time, though, when Batman takes the blame for what Dent did. When he says that he is whatever Gotham needs him to be. Powerful words. Looking forward to your reaction to The Dark Knight Rises.
Its sad because this was arguably when Heath would have officially broken out and he would have likely given many other phenomenal performances. He died the moment he reached his peak. We missed out on so much future legendary entertainment from him and he never got to live to experience the appreciation and recognition he rightfully deserved for this role Sad end to such a rising star which Hollywood could definitely use rn. RIP Heath 🫡
The Dark Knight is an amazing movie. Christian Bale and Heath Ledger were made for Batman and the Joker. Rest in peace Heath Ledger. Thank you for being part of The Dark Knight.
After initially not being able to understand how Coby could not realize Batman was going for Rachel, I had to back off since, after several viewings, I never put two and two together to realize that, as Coby pointed out, Gordon was driving the van during the truck scene. I just never thought to question how, if he weren’t in the van, he just spontaneously materialized from nowhere to arrest the Joker.
@@Indi-r2x My favorite people on RUclips are the ones who complain about the reacting in reaction videos. Go watch the movie yourself. No one will talk over it.
Coby, you asked why doesn’t Batman just kill him. That’s one of the many rules The Joker refers to over and over again that Batman and society live by. Batman’s number one rule is that he does not kill, it’s a huge part of his character, so the joker constantly exploits that
fun fact...if I recall, the scene in party where Joker grabs Rachel you will notice she turns her head and looks off to the side. This was improvised by Ledger...she was literally looking at the directors cause she wasn't expecting it and was panicking.
Another improv was the video of the Joker tormenting the Batman impersonator. Nolan gave Ledger permission to direct that little bit himself, with the 2nd unit director supervising, and that bit had only the outlines of a script.
Fun fact: Heath Ledger was so dedicated to the role, not only did he lock himself away in a hotel room for a month to create a “Joker Diary” but he committed so hard that the scene in the interrogation room when Batman was hitting him: Ledger told Bale to actually hit him. Ledger just laughed through it. Incredible!

It's so common now with Nolan movies, but him filming this with an IMAX camera was incredible at the time. Seeing it on an IMAX screen was top notch experience.
I remember I saw this in Imax on opening night, and that very first shot of the building opens up and it's just a MASSIVE IMAX shot and it looked so real and I remember hearing people all over the theatre just exclaimed in pure wonder "WOW" "holy!" "oh my god!" as the camera begins to zoom towards the building and it will forever solidify just how amazing the IMAX camera truly is.
Roger Ebert once said that he doesn't usually cry at movies out of sadness. He cries out of joy when people are good or when people are trying to do good. That's why you cry. Out of joy for what you are seeing and experiencing. And maybe out of a bit of sadness because you don't want it to end.
"so none of the stories are true?" It's an old comic nod, the joker always tells people multiple different stories to why he is the way he is. An acid bath, mob induced reconstructive surgery, or just a really bad day. At which point batman would say "none of those origins are really yours" and the joker always replied "when it comes to origin stories, I prefer it to be multiple choice". Always is something like that in the comics where joker takes a given factoid of himself and flips it person to person..... Thus to this day no one knows what his REAL background is.
@@ccam7802 And in the next comic or the one after it will turn out to be a ruse, a lie, a joke... just some setup. ..... No, the day the Joker gets a real backstory, a real identity will be the day he dies for good. Not a day earlier. ... And even then it will likely be 3 to 5 different ones that all make equal amount of sense. .. because.. you know... multiple choice..
It's generally agreed before being the Joker he was either leader or made to look like the leader of the Red Hood Gang. It's the reason why Jason Todd the second Robin uses the name after returning from (supposedly) dying at Joker's hands. Edit: Fixed a typo.
@@ccam7802 brother..... Modern comics are dog shit, almost every story is bottom tier fanfiction from 25 years ago that the fandom made fun of. Hell they've been in a nosedive since they arrested Superman and sodomized him in prison......
"MCU" in this context stands for Major Crimes Unit. Many real-world police departments in big cities have them, although they go by a few different names. Funnily enough, this movie came out the exact same year that the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) was born, as this was the same year that the first Iron Man movie released.
🔔 COBY @ 1:01:19 Joker's Cash Amount in Dark Knight According to a R____t user (r/theydidthemath), the Joker’s pile of cash is approximately 5.832 million cubic inches. Using the volume of a pallet ($100 million) as a reference (92,160 cubic inches), they estimate the value of the Joker’s cash stack to be around $6.328 billion.
Joker doesn't know that batman is Bruce. He is going off the knowledge that he dives after her from the window. So he knows they close, so playing off that. He doesn't care who batman is just like the challenge to see if batman would cross the line and kill kim
"_This_ is the weapon of the enemy. We do not need it. We will not use it." (also Batman, while breaking a shotgun in two with his bare hands in "The Dark Knight Returns", the comic Zack Snyder used to defend Batman's use of guns in his movies)
And because he knows it's a slippery slope. If he takes that step, no matter how justified the murder is, he'll never recover, because it'll be that much easier for him to justify another one, and another one, etc. That's also why comic Batman never would have let Ra's Al Ghul die like Bruce did in the first movie. If he consciously chooses to let someone die, it'll be that much easier to do it again and again until it gets to the point where he'll start killing because the person was going to die anyway.
In Batman Begins, he said, "I can't kill you, but that doesn't mean I have to save you". The whole concept of "heroes don't kill" comes from the old Comics Code. Comic book superheroes were not allowed to kill. Someone might die as an indirect result of a hero's actions, but they couldn't deliberately kill someone. That Code didn't last long, though.
I left the theatre, completely dumbfounded... it was SO dark, so emotional. Friends asked me what I thought, and all I could say was, "That was overwhelming."
This is a Masterpiece. In 50 years, people will see the MCU as an expensive, episodic TV show they played in theaters. The Dark Knight will be regarded as the “Godfather” of superhero films. It’s unrivaled.
I've always seen the MCU as a glorified soap opera, lots of fun but very shallow. The Dark Knight trilogy is a masterpiece on every level, sophisticated and thrilling. Nolan gave us 3 Batman arthouse blockbusters, unique in every way.
@StoneColdBeard Winter Soldier is also a masterpiece and more impressive than The Dark Knight IMO. Even Civil War was very good. I mean, main characters such as Iron Man and War Machine had scenes in which it seemed like they might actually die. I experienced dread watching things play out. The Dark Knight is well made, but it's basically about a villain who just wants chaos for no real reason. I think the Marvel movies actually have better motivations for the conflicts in their movies. I think War Machine had to shut down the Avengers because they were causing too much collateral damage or something. He almost killed Iron Man or something like that. It was a bit terrifying to watch. I disagree that the Marvel movies are just an expensive episodic TV show that played in theaters. What Marvel accomplished is seriously impressive with many good/great movies and a very good connected universe.
@@darrel7589 it’s about a lot more than a villain who wants chaos. It’s about the philosophical dilemma of Determinism vs inter-determinism. Joker being a catalyst for chaos and Harvey being the justice for humans actions. It’s also a deep allegory on capitalism and how we feel safe until we are introduced to anarchism. It’s a huge play on morality and the choices we are forced to make. Even Batman was forced to make a decision, he didn’t believe in killing anyone, yet he was faced with his choice to save Gordon’s son and kill Harvey. All three men were faced with a dilemma on the roof. Harvey realized why the Joker chose him, and how he was a pawn. He decides to continue on his path because facing the truth was too much for him. Gordon realized his actions as a police officer have consequences on others. Gordon was a Machiavellian “ends justify the means” cop. Until that moment. Ironically, Batman adopts this philosophy to save Gotham. Gordon says “No you’re not.” And Batman replies “I’m whatever Gotham needs me to be.” They cover up Harvey’s murders using this philosophy. Which will come back to haunt them in the next film. Because Truth is real Justice. Also, it’s a one off film inside a trilogy. You don’t have to see Batman Begins or TDKR to understand this film. Anyone can go into it blindly and understand the story. With the MCU, you have to see other films to understand the plot and grasp the emotional connection with the characters. This film builds it in one movie.
@@darrel7589 Winter Soldier is by far the best MCU movie, however it's a total ripoff of the Jason Bourne franchise. And yes the MCU used to be very popular and successful, but the same can be said about McDonald's. The franchise is like fastfood, easy and fun. Nothing wrong with that, we all enjoy an occasional quick meal / easy digeastable movie.
Batman DID choose to go save Rachel, but Joker intentionally switched the addresses. So when Batman arrived at Rachel's address, it was actually Harvey. It shows how unpredictable and untrustworthy Joker is. You can never truly take him for his word.
Nice. Witness the single greatest 'comic book' movie of all time. I'm 53 years old and a lifelong comic book nerd, though predominantly a Marvel guy, but this movie takes the cake. It's perfect. And Ledger's Oscar winning performance still brings tears to my eyes, he's just so good. One of a handful of movies I watch at least once a year. Sheer brilliance. Best line of the movie: "I like this job."
I agree mostly. My favorite part of the whole thing is Batman’s gnarly groan when he’s getting back up after falling at the very end. It’s always taken me out of the film and made me giggle at the part where I’m supposed to be feeling the weight of things.
Dark Knight getting snubbed at the Oscars is truly a tragedy. Most people don't even remember what movie won that year, let alone have seen it, all because Dark Knight got snubbed because it's a comic book movie.
30:26 Well in the comics there is a "definitive" origin for the Joker, though take it with a grain of salt since it comes from the character himself. The truth is left open to interpretation. In Detective Comics #168 (1951), Red Hood debuted, a criminal who fled to Ace Chemicals after a failed heist at the Monarch Playing Card Company. Chased by Batman he jumps into a vat of chemicals, emerging with bleached skin and green hair, becoming the Joker. Batman: The Killing Joke (1988) expanded on this, portraying the Red Hood as a mantle forced upon various individuals by the mob. In this version, a struggling comedian named Jack took on the role to support his pregnant wife, Jeannie. However, after a robbery at his workplace, went wrong, Ace Chemicals. He fell into the chemicals, transforming into the Joker. Though Joker states Batman 'throw' him into the chemicals. "If I'm Going To Have A Past, I Prefer It To Be Multiple Choice! HA HA HA!" - Joker (The Killing Joke)
For me the best theory is: Joker was in Military and his convoi exploded, thats why he got the scars and is a weapons expert. He was also specialized for Interrogations. Thats why he said "never start with the head". And thats also why he is good in psychology. He told the mob boss that his father was abusive maybe because most percentage of criminals had an abusive or a passiv father. To rachel he told the story about the love to his wife i dont know why maybe because this story fits more to tell a woman. Now i know that joker could not have know that but he said to rachel that he didn't care about the scars of his wife. And i find this interesting because rachel is in conflict on who to choose: Batman (has scars) or Harvey dent (later has scars)
criminal content at 18, joker doesn't know batman is bruce, he just knows that he cares for rachel because he flung himself after her, that is why he was making fun of batman in the interrogation room, he knew that batman liked harvey den'ts gf
I have never seen any reactor cry at the ship detonators scene. Batman doesn't use guns or kill people. The recent movies kind of bend the rules off screen with all the explosions, like DCU movies.
@@hoya1178 Yeah, on screen not killing has been more the exception than the rule (only the Nolan movies are really explicit about it being part of a code, the others either ignore it entirely - Burton in a big way and Snyder to a lesser extent - or as in Reeves' "Year 2"-ish Batman, follow it but leave it mostly implicit). In the comics it's been the reverse though, at least since the early 40s.
The old man at the party who says ‘We’re not intimidated by thugs!’ and is nearly killed for it was Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont. He’s a huge Batman fan, and I have heard that he’s had some other cameos in other movies.
The one thing that has always bothrered me about this masterpiece (in the end nobody rembers it because it is insignificant) is the chase/rescue scene with the "swat" officer riding with Gordon. A SWAT officer who doesn't know the difference between a bazooka and an RPG. An then he says "I did not sign up for this", he is SWAT, or at least a cop in tactical uniform. What did he expect when he joined the academy at Gotham city. But other than that, what a great film and I just love Coby.
Great job Coby!! I watched this movie endlessly for a few years after it came out. The underlying selflessness of the characters in key situations is emotional. So awesome that you were able to feel that. Thanks for another great reaction 🎉❤
The escape system used in Hong Kong actually exists. It's called the Fulton surface-to-air recovery system (STARS), also known as Skyhook. A top secret (at the time) system used by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), United States Air Force, and United States Navy for retrieving individuals on the ground using an aircraft.
They show in Batman Begins why he doesn't want to kill, when the League of Shadows wanted him to execute a defenseless man. It would turn him into a villain and wouldn't make him any different that the criminals. He also watched his parents get murdered in cold blood. He finds murder disgusting. Fantastic reaction though, I love how passionate you are about the movies
I love that nobody ever questioned the Fulton system. Not only CAN you totally yoink a couple of dudes out of a building with a C-130, but we figured it out 75 years ago.
Joker didn't know it was Bruce, he just noticed that Batman loved Rachel. He could probably put it together based on them being childhood friends and also a Wayne employee knowing who Batman was later though.
56:58 Joker gave Batman the wrong info. He knew Rachel dying would send Dent spiraling down. 1:15:15 RIP Tommy Lister Jr. aka Deebo from Friday. He was only in this movie for like 2 minutes, but he made a lasting impression.
If you stop to think about it, when the Joker visits Harvey in the hospital and gives him that speech about not being a schemer, he's totally gaslighting Dent. This is a guy who not only has plans, but also leaves clues to his plans all over the place. He set up a plan to free Lao by allowing himself to be captured. The Joker is very much a schemer - it's just that his master goal is to prove that everyone else is as bad as he is.
True, but there was some truth to it as well. He tells them what he's going to do so that he can show them how pathetic their attempts to control things are by predicting their every move and causing them to make things worse. The end building and swap of the hostages and clowns is a perfect example. He intentionally picks a building with so many windows, intentionally puts the clown hostages in front of them, knowing what Gordon will do, all while giving the real bad guys guns so that they can ambush the cops when they come to "save" them.
Great reaction Coby like always, this movie is so good. Ledger absolutely OWNED that role. He was incredibly unhinged. Seeing this in theaters was so amazing. One of the best films ever. It just is unrelenting. Heath Ledger asked to direct and film the fake Batman hostage video. He improvised the entire dialog. During the Batman/Joker interagation Heath told Christian Bale to actually hit him. And another fun-fact about that mid-movie scene with the Joker crashing the party: that was the first time Maggie Gyllenhaal and Michael Caine saw Heath in his makep. The makeup, combined with his unhinged behavior, elicited truly panicked reactions. Go back and watch Maggie... she is kegitimately freaked out and not acting. And in the hospital scene between Harvey and Joker Because he's a master manipulator. He knew that there was a 50/50 chance that Dent would pull the trigger especially in his current mental state. He wanted to mess with him. The joker may not care much about his life but he wouldn't want Harvey to be the one to kill him. He wanted batman to have that honour. This is the brilliance of the Joker. The illusion of choice. He gives Dent the option to him right then and there, to end the madness or join it´s ranks. The choice is simple, because there isn´t one. If you look closely at the Joker´s finger he is holding the gun hammer, even if dent pulled the trigger, the hammer wouldn´t fall. Keep up the good work.
Michael Caine was even supposed to have a line in that scene, but the sight of Heath in full makeup made him forget his line! As for the scene with Dent and Joker, I'm torn. I genuinely feel like Joker would let himself die if that's how the coin landed. If he doesn't, then his manipulation might not stick. Chaos can't be fair if you don't follow the rules. So if it comes up black, and he doesn't let Dent kill him, why would he keep following the coin? The only way for the manipulation to stick, is for it to come up white, and have Dent, who truly wants to kill Joker, follow the coin and spare him. That's the push that sent Dent on his way. So whether Joker lives or dies there, his job is done. Harvey gets corrupted, goes on his killing spree, the mobsters get freed, the town loses hope, etc.
I LOVED THIS SO MUCH. I saw this at the cinema all those years ago and it's so amazing watching people see it for the first time. Strap in for the next one. Its rough (in a good way)
Brilliant reaction Coby, Heath Ledger performance was incredible he made the Joker scary, charismatic & hilarious & its such a shame he didnt get see the high praise he deserved for such a iconic performance. Great cast, excellent performances, awesome story & skillfully directed by Chris Nolan. Still my favourite Batman film.
The Joker lied to Batman about the addresses, his whole goal was to destroy Dent and bring him down to his level or kill him in the process, he gets an added bonus of screwing over Batman by killing Rachel as he of course perceived their bond.
The prisoner on the barge was well known character actor Tommy "Tiny" Lister. He was in everything from Friday, Jackie Brown, Armed & Dangerous & The Fifth Element.
The Joker doesn't know Bruce is Bstman. He knows Batman cares about Rachel because he jumped out a window to save her. And as others have said, the Joker lied. Bruce thought he was saving Rachel.
This movie was one of the many around the time with the "The villain wanted to get caught!" plot twist. Joker did it, Loki did it in The Avengers, and Silva did it in Skyfall.
HAAA you missed the phone mapping out the room thing and Bruce said "Like a" (insinuating Bat) and Morgan Freeman says "Submarine"!! Awesome movie 🎥🍿 No one will do a better JOKER!! Great Reaction!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
Everything about this movie was perfect, honestly its equal to anything done for MCU on film in my opinion. Every performance is great but Heath Ledgers stands out because Joker would be easy to make cheesy or campy, yet somehow you see a little bit of Cesar Romero's and Jack Nicholson's portrayals in there while still making it his own, and making Joker's sociopathy and abilities feel believable in a real world.
WONDERFUL REACTION! 😁 you are the first person i have seen POINT OUT the selfless, self-sacrificing act THE PRISONER made when he tossed the detonator! 👍☺
It's definitely one of the most powerful scenes in the movie, especially if Joker ended up giving them the detonator to their own bomb, which many people speculate. If the convicts turn their key and blow themselves up, the innocent people on the other boat get blamed, and vice versa. It's a classic Wargames scenario. The only way to win is not to play.
1. MCU means Major Crimes Unit 2. The Joker doesn't know who Batman is. 3. The Joker told them the addresses in reverse. He went after Rachel and Gordon went after Dent, but because the addresses were reversed, he ended up where Dent was. 4. Given his previous trick, it's almost certain that the detonators on the boats were for their own boats not the other boat.
There’s many comments here talking about Batman doesn’t kill, but glossing over the reason given in Batman Begins. Bruce was going to kill his parents’ murderer, and when he made Rachel aware of it she slapped him twice in disgust, and declared that his father would be ashamed of him. That resonated with Bruce, and it became part of his makeup. Ras Al Gul wanted him to be an executioner as his final test and wouldn’t do it. The comics may have a different setup, but in these movies, that’s the reason why Bruce won’t kill, and even eschews guns (at least the hand held varieties).
Superb reaction video, Coby! Even though I watched this movie bunch of times, I never looked at it from selflessness perspective and it makes total sense now that you mentioned. This proves again that this movie is a timeless masterpiece.
Great to see my favorite Criminal Content reactor, Coby!😊 The bank manager would end up dead anyway. He was carrying a sawed off shotgun which is highly illegal, and he was most likely working with the mob, protecting their money. Good job knowing the stars in court, Coby. Most people aren't familiar with Eric Roberts especially. MCU is The Major Crimes Unit. Great reactions to the best Batman film, Coby!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Just as Joker lied about who was at the addresses, he also most likely lied about the boat detonators "With the Joker, nothing is as it seems" The experiment wasnt about who deserved to be saved the criminals or the innocent, but whoever actually pulled the trigger would have proven his point. The likelihood of the boat with the civilians actually doing the deed was higher so that would have been "fun" for the Joker seeing them blow themselves up.
This is an INCREDIBLE movie and I'm so happy that you enjoyed it! This one always hits me in the feels but for another reason - my ex wife was a HUGE fan of Batman and as such she was mega hyped for this one. lol, I remember her joy when this was first announced and she had a great time following the production of it all. Obviously we both were affected by Heath Ledger's death. That did hurt us but still, we both enjoyed this movie quite a bit! :) I'm probably going to be resubbing to the Patreon so that I can do the full watch a long for this! Had an incredible time watching this on here so I know that I'll enjoy the full thing. :)
The use of MCU in this film refers to Major Crimes Unit Fun Fact: When the joker shows up at the Dent Fundraiser and steps off the elevator, that was the first time Michael Caine saw Heath Ledger in full costume and in character, Caine's reaction was genuinely startled from the sight and presence of Ledger's performance.
Maggie Gyllenhaal avoiding looking at Ledger at the Fundraiser when Ledger grabs her... that was real, yeah Ledger was improvving and grabbing Maggie was completely unscripted. She was actually afraid.
I'm torn. Few people can catch and foresee so much on a first watch, and it's not believable that a working actress wouldn't have seen all these movies before. On the other hand, she's gotta be one HECK of a good actress otherwise. Either way she is fun to watch!
Ive seen so many reactions to this film as its my one my favorite films of all time but never have I seen a reaction so fan girl and likeminded. I really enjoyed your company. Looking forward to more movie dates.
I loved your reaction to this and that you enjoyed it......but every time you've cried in reactions I just wanna be there to give you a hug and a shoulder to lean on. So has Nolan become your new favorite director? He sure knows how to bring a script/movie to life doesn't he?
The pencil scene reminds me of John Wick. Second: Joker knew that Batman was going after Rachel. That's why he switched addresses. Every man's weaknesses is a girl.
Fun Fact, Coby: The old man the Joker threatens at the party is a US Senator Patrick Leahy, who also happens to be a huge Batman fan, and has appeared in several Batman films, and has even done a voice in an episode of the classic animated series.
I was 18 when I watched The Dark Knight on IMAX opening night. Still one of the best experiences of my life. Keep in mind this was one of if not the first picture filmed on IMAX
LOOK AT ME! Heath Ledger was a method actor who got deeply into his roles. With Joker, this is what he did, taken from IMDB "In preparation for his role as the Joker, Heath Ledger hid away in a motel room for about six weeks. During this extended stay of seclusion, Ledger delved deep into the psychology of the character. He devoted himself to developing the Joker's every tic, namely the voice and that sadistic-sounding laugh (for the voice, Ledger's goal was to create a tone that didn't echo the work Jack Nicholson did in his 1989 performance as the Joker). Ledger's interpretation of the Joker's appearance was primarily based on the chaotic, disheveled look of punk rocker Sid Vicious combined with the psychotic mannerisms of Malcolm McDowell's character, Alex De Large, from A Clockwork Orange (1971)." I thought Jack Nicholson's performance couldn't be topped as the Joker, but Heath took it to a whole different level. He played it perfectly.
21:46 The "Sky hook" retrieval system is a real thing, working very much as seen in this movie. It never went into wide use but it worked well for getting someone on the ground into a moving plane without it landing. There's a short documentary about it on RUclips.
Harvey’s coin is deeply ingrained into the mythos of the character going way back to his origins. He follows the coin no matter what it says. This is the big mischaracterization with Tommy Lee Jones’s version. That version flips the coin until he gets the outcome he wants.
The lip licking mannerisms by Heath Ledger in this were something he came up with to help keep the prosthetics on his face. It just fits the character so well though, truly an outstanding performance by Heath when almost no one thought Heath had it in him to play the joker.
He was going to be apart of the 3rd film but not as the main villain.. it was always going to Bane they just didn’t include the Joker in it anymore after ledger passed

@sumanchaudhari2089 maybe... But he specifically said "You and his little bunny". He didn't know Bruce was Batman but he knew Batman was somewhat involved with her due to the focus he put on her.
This time it was going to be done for him
The ending Gordon speech followed by the title card is probably the most perfectly done movie title drop ever.

Bruce didn't choose to save Harvey - he went to save Rachel - the Joker gave him reversed information.
Coby, you asked why doesn’t Batman just kill him. That’s one of the many rules The Joker refers to over and over again that Batman and society live by. Batman’s number one rule is that he does not kill, it’s a huge part of his character, so the joker constantly exploits that
And does in the comics too. If he gets Batman to break that rule , he (Joker) wins.

It's an old comic nod, the joker always tells people multiple different stories to why he is the way he is.

47:52 Batman's one rule is he doesn't kill. He sees it as the one thing that stands between him and the madness of the criminals he brings down.

Batman 1989 has entered the chat.
and because of that, he allowed joker to kill indiscriminately. i call that cowardly, to go against you code for the betterment of humanity
The Joker didn't know who Batman is.

The recent movies kind of bend the rules off screen with all the explosions, like DCU movies.
DCU films!!! You mean the DCEU, DCU is James Gunn's universe that's yet to begin.
You mean the Burton movies where Batman kills people without any remorse and sometimes smiles while doing it.

Particularly those in a hot zone where you can't land, even if it's a quick landing of a helicopter.

Still my favourite Batman film.
The Joker lied to Batman about the addresses, his whole goal was to destroy Dent and bring him down to his level or kill him in the process, he gets an added bonus of screwing over Batman by killing Rachel as he of course perceived their bond.
Question is... did he really switched detonators in the ferries?
@@pablom-f8762 I personally believe, Joker gave the ships the device to blow up their own ship
The prisoner on the barge was well known character actor Tommy "Tiny" Lister. He was in everything from Friday, Jackie Brown, Armed & Dangerous & The Fifth Element.
❤ Tiny Lister!
He wrestled Hulk Hogan lol
RIP Debo
He wasn't in Jackie Brown nearly enough.
Not knowing joker’s origin makes it so much better.
Agreed
And if he were to have a backstory, he'd prefer it to be multiple choice!
Batman thought he was on his way to save Rachel but the Joker lied about who was at each address
While Heath Ledger’s performance is legendary, let’s not forget how great Aaron Eckhardt was as Harvey and Two-Face. 🎭
Thank you jedhead
I think he outshone them all
Everything about this movie was perfect, honestly its equal to anything done for MCU on film in my opinion.
When Gordon tells his son, “actually, this time I saved him” and the expression he makes after is honestly my favorite moment from all three films.
Coby at 1:20:17: "i m emotionally overwelmed"..well give it a minute, you'll cry your eyes out..just like the rest of us did back then..great reaction
WONDERFUL REACTION! 😁 you are the first person i have seen POINT OUT the selfless, self-sacrificing act THE PRISONER made when he tossed the detonator! 👍☺
Thank you so much!!
Fun Fact: The name tag the Joker wears as a nurse reads “Matilda”, the name of Heath’s baby daughter with Michelle Williams at the time. 🙏🏼
She's still his daughter with Michelle Williams.
First time watching your video and your smile at 7:40 in the video looks very genuinely heartwarming, as though you're really opening up to the movie.
The Joker switched the addresses. Even in that scene he performed incredible (narrowed his eyes, psychologically like someone who is lying).
The video ive been waiting for 🙏🏽
Heath literally stole the show with this performance. He turned a Batman movie into a Joker movie. Absolutely legendary performance by him
Such Heartfelt reactions. A perfect movie with a matching score. Coby's tears make me tear, I'm getting weaker with age . . .
Yet, he still kills in every film in the trilogy. I'm not even one of the gatekeeping pussies. I just find it really funny.
love how much this film subverts your expectations...as it does with most.
Hi Coby! I'm excited for your reaction to Dark Knight Rises!
Superb reaction video, Coby! Even though I watched this movie bunch of times, I never looked at it from selflessness perspective and it makes total sense now that you mentioned. This proves again that this movie is a timeless masterpiece.
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed.
One of the best and satisfying reactions I've ever watched. Great Job, Keep it up.
Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker is fantastic! 😁
I firmly believe that he lied about which boat would blow up as well.
The joker still didn't know that's Bruce Wayne is batman.
I'm probably going to be resubbing to the Patreon so that I can do the full watch a long for this! Had an incredible time watching this on here so I know that I'll enjoy the full thing. :)
The use of MCU in this film refers to Major Crimes Unit
Fun Fact: When the joker shows up at the Dent Fundraiser and steps off the elevator, that was the first time Michael Caine saw Heath Ledger in full costume and in character, Caine's reaction was genuinely startled from the sight and presence of Ledger's performance.
Maggie Gyllenhaal avoiding looking at Ledger at the Fundraiser when Ledger grabs her... that was real, yeah Ledger was improvving and grabbing Maggie was completely unscripted. She was actually afraid.
The Dark Knight is the greatest superhero movie of all time
its a very low bar, but yes
"Nestor something"? That's Batmanuel!
Coby "Why am I crying In a Batman movie? This film is so intense Christopher Nolan knows how to make a movie." Best compliment from a Normy.
Hilarious that Coby broke into tears from a scene involving Deebo.. Great reaction video Coby. Keep them coming.
This is the best iteration of Batman. Christian Bale. This is Heath Ledgers Joker Brilliant. One of the greatest acting masterpiece.
You've seen this movie before. This is not your first time.
I'm torn. Few people can catch and foresee so much on a first watch, and it's not believable that a working actress wouldn't have seen all these movies before. On the other hand, she's gotta be one HECK of a good actress otherwise. Either way she is fun to watch!
The Joker lied about the addresses, flipped them, and made him think he was going to Rachel.
I'm impressed with your car and motorcycle knowledge. You aren't supposed to know what a Lamborghini Murcielago is!
Fun Fact, Coby: The old man the Joker threatens at the party is a US Senator Patrick Leahy, who also happens to be a huge Batman fan, and has appeared in several Batman films, and has even done a voice in an episode of the classic animated series.
No way!!
He doesn't choose to save Harvey. The Joker switches the addresses knowing Batman would try to save Rachel.
This was the best of the Nolan Batman films - it's a masterpiece. You could stop here and not be unhappy about it.
The third one is good though. Better than the first imo.
Batman Begins is the perfect Bruce Wayne movie, The Dark Knight is the perfect Batman movie, and The Dark Knight Rises is a Gotham movie!
One detail that's often overlooked: When the Joker burns the huge stack of money, Lao the banker was tied up on top of it. 😮 Joker is hard core!
The Joker was supposed to be the villain in Batman 3 until Ledger died and they had to come up with a new concept
so sad
He was going to be apart of the 3rd film but not as the main villain.. it was always going to Bane they just didn’t include the Joker in it anymore after ledger passed
there were no detailed plans for a third movie yet, when the second came out.
Joker would’ve had a part in the final film, but Nolan doesn’t repeat himself, the main villain would’ve been someone else anyway.
