All these elements make for a great movie...and The Dark Knight has all of those things. I feel like this has become more and more tainted as the years roll by...movies now try too hard, or not hard enough, to make something overly complex, or too dummied down. The reason this movie did so well is because Nolan didn't let the comics decide and dictate his creative actions, he let them inspire his ultimate direction. Matt Reeves did a pretty stellar job too with The Batman (2022), to not let the comics decide, but to inspire (though, it still felt less like a standalone trilogy/movie and more like a spin-off). I think the reason The Dark Knight works so well is the simplistic nature of the movie's style. It doesn't have that DCU or MCU coat of paint blotching and smearing, it's all on its own...and it's marvelous. It's not a movie about the characters existing in the world, it's about the world that characters exist in; Bruce Wayne/Batman isn't who he is because he's a character, he is the way he is because the world he dwells in made him that way, it defined his existence; "It's not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me," is another instance in which we are shown Bruce's expression and admittance to the role of becoming the Batman. This is why most super hero movies NEED to introduce Bruce/Batman with the death of his parents, and Nolan does it so fast, but so effectively in Batman Begins. Remember that the next time you watch any kind of movie: is it a movie about a world made up of characters, or a movie about characters existing in a world? One is intentionally trying to drive the plot, one is trying to drive the character(s)...sometimes it's a little of both, but it's a dance; it's a necessary give/take that either makes or breaks a film. Usually, your story-arc will work best with the world being built first (think Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, and how the world was built around the characters, not the characters around the world). Even a movie like Superman Returns feels as iconic and separate not just in tone, but in cinematic quality. It came from another time, but the overall expression of building the world first, the characters second doesn't feel lost there. It probably didn't do so well though, because it was another continuation (which is why Man of Steel was needed, and is another one of my favorite superhero movies ever made). I never saw this movie in theaters...I wish I had...but I was too young then...I was frightened of Heath's Joker, and now I have nothing but utmost respect for his sacrifice for us all to remember for ages to come. RIP, Heath Ledger. You will always be cherished, not just as one of the most iconic depictions of the Joker, but as a well rounded actor, overall. You will, and still are, missed.
I'm crying again, the feeling I had with this ending was really overwhelming. The music, the speech, I felt the same with Oppenheimer. Nolan is a genius.
I was in my junior year of high school when this film released. People were so hyped up and by the time this scene came on there was pure silence. Like everyone was soaking it in. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. It showcased the batman in his greatest element, it gave us the joker that's probably in line with the comic books, and it gave us the ending that was not a happy ending, but the ending it needed, because it's Batman.

We showed The Dark Knight on 35mm here a few months ago. Just 2 showings. It was pretty incredible to watch every single seat in the hall fill up both nights. Showing Nolan movies on film is always fun. Going to be running a lot of 70mm leading up to our Oppenheimer run as a 2nd-run theater.
Just before the movie started when I saw this in a packed theater, people were talking loud all around us and as soon as the lights dimmed and the WB logo appeared, all at once everyone got very quiet. We all knew that we were about to witness a masterpiece. Probably the greatest movie theater experience of my life.

"sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded".... great line... probably why so many people sleep so much when they are depressed.....maybe in sleep, our faith is rewarded.....maybe in death, our faith is rewarded..... definitely not in the real world where life isn't fair, right?
When this came out I was in college, and I skipped a class (that I failed) to wait in line with some friends for ten hours to see it at midnight in IMAX in Palisades NY. We’d take breaks in pairs to get food / go to the bathroom. People in line ahead of us were building the original LEGO Tumbler. The TV over our heads was playing the Watchmen trailer on a loop. When we finally got in, we were still not prepared for the religious experience we were about to have. Getting out at 3am, the line for the next showing stretched even further than ours did. People were asking us if it was really that good. We could barely speak. I still remember getting home at 4am in a daze, and talking about it with my manager the next day (he caught the 3am show). The Dark Knight may not be the greatest movie of all time, but that was the greatest moviegoing experience of my life. I don’t think it’ll ever be topped, and I don’t really want it to be.
The thing about the dark knight series is that it surpasses the norms and the lines/limits of superhero movies. Even those who don't like fictional superhero movies can't stop themselves from loving or getting affected by this movie. It's not just some superhero movie, it has so much of weight like those other cult movies and unlike other superhero movies, it doesn't just rely on its main superhero point. In fact half of the movie doesn't even feel like it's a superhero film. The characters, the plot, the music, the visuals.... There's a reason it's considered to be ONE OF THE BEST FILMS of all time, NOT JUST ONE OF THE BEST SUPERHERO films

Love your analysis!! Amazing and with so many details!
The trilogy was so good, it’s honestly emotional every time it’s just a beautiful portrayal
Batman in his most simplest form and essence is literally…a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight 👏🏻
This ending is truly one of the best moments in cinema history. "He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a dark knight" chills every time

Such a weak spine. I wonder what will happen to it while watching Kantara's climax.

We all watched entranced as our Dark Knight fell and gave new hope to a hopeless city.
Then when Gordon called him a Dark Knight... The entire theater erupted in cheers.
What an experience.
I am Valdivia hahaha
I remember when the movie ended everyone stood up and was clapping for 10 min straight. Nothing will ever compare to this movie or trilogy.
Steve Rogers said hold my shield!
@@ray24051Steve Roger's had 1 good movie out of three, and neither trilogy is as good as Lord of the Rings. The Dark Knight trilogy comes close, though
@@TheBalisongBear nah the Captain America trilogy is quality throughout. Still agree it’s not at Dark Knight levels at all though, and neither is at LOTR - greatest trilogy ever.

While seeing this at a drive thru was still a pretty fun way to first see the movie, I bet the surround sound of an IMAX type room was the absolute best means of seeing it.
I remember my dad taking me to see this and the joker scared me so bad but I still loved it. Im so grateful I got to experience this in theaters
I remember back in 08’ goin in to see The Dark Knight, I was expecting a good movie just like Batman Begins but I was very surprised by how magnificent it was. It was one of those movies that moved me, that pulled me in, gave me goosebumps, and by the end I knew it is a Masterpiece and One of the Greatest Superhero Movies of all Time!
This ending still gives me chills.
15 years already? I still remember watching this movie all by myself at the theater. I had a ear to ear smile the whole movie and left with watery eyes. God, I love this trilogy.
So many years. I have seen this movie a lot of times. But it amazes me every time, like I'm watching it 1st time

I never thought I would watch from Cinema as a Gen Z but my country cinema got replay the movie for celebrating WB100. I am glad I can watch it in cinema
I watched it in theaters and was so blown away by it I walked right back to the box office and bought another ticket and watched it again.
@@nodakbeef hell yeah man. film buff right there. i might've done the same but tickets were sold out for weeks after the premier.
After seeing this film for the first time, I went out of the cinema to buy a ticket and go right back into the theatre to watch it again
This score gets me going man. Chills
This actually made me emotional. Watching this in theaters on the premiere was the greatest movie experience of my life.
There is no way anyone will ever create a masterpiece like this... The dark knight the best movie ever made...
This and the ending of the original Modern Warfare 2 are the best endings I've ever experienced. A great part of it is the music composed by Hans Zimmer in both cases.
Og MW trilogy still somw of my fav campaigns ever
i had strict parents that didn’t let me play cod when i was young, so unfortunately i never got to play the og mw2. i played some MP at friends house but never owned it. My question is, do yall like the campaigns in the new mw series? i know the gameplay is a bit repetitive in the second one, a lot of breaking and entering, but when i played the first one i really liked it. and i enjoy the story immensely too. a bit unrealistic but that’s cod. lmk what you think, i’d like to see others opinions on this.
Tbf most music in mw2 were composed by lorne balfe, he deserve much more recognition
@@nivrag00 Modern Warfare 2019 was a real breath of fresh air in the cod franchise and it truly took a god-tier series (Modern Warfare) and modernized it. Modern Warfare 2022, however, was not, it was just Modern Warfare 2019 but more boring and with much more fan service.
is it me or anyone else cried how the music, the dialog, the scene hit so hard that makes you suddenly remembering the whole movie in short moment and realize how great it is
I’ve seen The Dark Knight a thousand times but God damn, I still clapped when I saw it in the theatre. What an awesome movie.
This movie is a cinematic masterpiece. It showcased the batman in his greatest element, it gave us the joker that's probably in line with the comic books, and it gave us the ending that was not a happy ending, but the ending it needed, because it's Batman.
The writing, music, acting, visuals, everything put together for the ending of this movie is so perfect. I actually don't think it could have been any better.
As far as I'm concerned, this movie won best picture Oscar at the 2009 ceremony. That's the memory I have. Don't care if I'm wrong.

this ending definitely has the most badass use of the "they say the name of the movie in the movie" trope
I remember seeing this opening weekend with my Dad and my brother back in 2008. The movie experience was absolutely insane and I loved everything about the film from the crowd cheering about the Truck flip to the standing ovation to Heath Ledger's performance. Probably my favorite movie experience ever next to seeing Oppenheimer on Imax 70mm.
The one time I’ve seen my Mom give a film a standing ovation.

Just before the movie started when I saw this in a packed theater, people were talking loud all around us and as soon as the lights dimmed and the WB logo appeared, all at once everyone got very quiet. We all knew that we were about to witness a masterpiece. Probably the greatest movie theater experience of my life.
"Because he's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt him. Because he can take it. Because he's not our hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight."
Still one of THE BEST SOUND MIXES of a movie I have EVER HEARD in a theatre. The Dark Knight as well as being full of acting gems is a musical delight - it deserves the BEST AND WIDEST SCREEN there is.
This is how a great movie is to be ended.
The dialogues are straight up God Tier.
Even watching this on RUclips gives goosebumps
Rest in peace to the people at the Colorado movie theater who died while watching this. They deserved this film.
Wrong movie. Lol.
Dark Knight Rises, not this one.
That was the dark knight rises
If MCU is the unstoppable force then The dark knight alone is the immovable object.
I remember watching this in 2008. I was only 15 years old. I immediately looked at my then girlfriend and told her this is the greatest movie I've ever seen. She smiled and nodded in agreement.

Christopher Nolan just WOWs everything. Such an incredible talent in our day and time.

Not giving Dark Knight best picture oscar is the biggest unreported crime of the 21st century.
It was given to Slumdog Millionaire, which was good too
Gold comment. Slumdig Millionaire was for my opinion very classic story. From poor to rich.
That shot of the dark knight speeding off on that ramp into the blinding light is one of the most iconic endings ever shot on film.
This was the last movie I saw with my dad in theaters before he died. He loved batman. He was cheering the whole time. I love it ❤
This dark knight tribology by Christopher Nolan has impacted my entire life.

A masterpiece, it should have won the oscar for Best Picture.
We are so blessed to live on the same time as Nolan and Zimmer.
Broo, this scene always makes me cry, it's too epic, the sountrack is amazing, definitely so far the best superhero movie I've ever seen and in my opinion of the best superhero, Christopher Nolan is brilliant.

Seeing this back in 2008 opening night and remembering the chills I got during that ending…. Literally one of the greatest endings and movies of all time easilyyyy
I was fortunate to see this at the BFI IMAX in Waterloo when it came out - truly an overwhelming cinematic experience and the finale was one of a few that received standing applause. Some great writing combined with masterful cinematography and a sublime soundtrack from Zimmer.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I remember me and my cousin rushing to downtown to catch this amazing film in time and it was unlike anything we had ever seen. Changed my life lol
Glad I got to see it one last time in theaters in 2012 during the dark knight marathon before the dark knight rises.
I still remember seeing this in imax with my friends and I was practically in shock when the credits rolled. I felt like I had just been hit by a truck.
Wow, just got chills at the very end. Thanks for sharing 🥃
Well, time to delve into my cupboards to look for old Dark Knight movies again
I got chills listening to the reaction! LOL I was so happy that Christopher Nolan made Batman ADULT again and not some silliness like the several movies before it. And it's been adult ever since. And I sincerely hope it stays this way! So far, so good!
I have not been lucky enough to see this in the cinema, I was too young and unaware. But i watched this on stream ,and it still holds the same value for me. Amazing , just amazing.
The Nolan bros are truly two of the top tier story tellers ever. Jonathan Nolan creating Person of Interest, one of the best tv shows ever 👌. These guys abilities to tell a story and direct is truly incredible. Talented family
The "why is he running daddy?" "Because we have to chase him" is something else
the best part about this video is that everyone is standing up to leave the theatre not expecting after credits scene.
Just rewatched it in theaters a couple days ago. MAN, that ending hits so incredibly hard. One of my favorite movie endings in film.
For me it's the best ending of all time in any movie. The chills I had during last scene when he's running and the dialogue, man it was done to perfection
"But he didn't do anything wrong" that kid delivery was insane, gets me every time
