@ Anubis the joker doesn't have to stick to script like others such as batman, or any of the other dc heroes thats why Nolan and Ledger had so much fun because they could play around with the idea of a sporadic and totally spontaneous character this was the idea and the comics and the games implement this too but not to the extent of ledger. Saddest thing about Heath Ledger’s death is he didn’t get to enjoy the success of this role. This would’ve no doubt opened the door of bigger and better roles for him.
I don't think his death had something to do with him being "unsuccessful" as an actor. He was on top of his field when he passed away. That's what made it so tragic.

Tbh I dont think it would've been as good. The reason why joker won best supporting role because hes a contrast to the entire movie and stands out. It wouldn't have been as good if Joker was the main actor in the movie, sorry but its true.
One of many things that made his Joker so great was a fact that we knew nothing about his backstory. If he got a movie explaining his origin it wouldn't be as good as the recent Joker movie. The same way Phoenix plays completely different Joker which wouldn't work as Batman foe in a way Ledger's Joker did. We weren't meant to understand Ledger as Joker, he was meant to be mysterious psycho.

2009 Oscars that year was the best ever. Not only Heath Ledger won, but there were a lot of legends there also. I love the fact that there were five actors/actresses all represent the awards four times. Supporting actress, supporting actor, lead actress, and lead actor. And also great speech by Heath's parents. Almost everybody had tears in their eyes.
When Heath's father gets emotional....THE WHOLE WORLD GETS EMOTIONAL! The solemnness in that room and the respect given to the family. I still remember the day after he died clearly coming into school it was all many could talk about, there was a genuine sense of loss and mourning.

I think there is more to it than just that. While the other nominees would have loved to win that year, I think they all knew they didn't deserve the title after what happened to Heath and gave up the win in his honor as respect as well as his outstanding performance as Joker. If you don’t like Batman, give the Dark Knight a try purely for Heath Ledger’s performance as The Joker because it’s bloody fantastic.

We used to do this in acting class, I was in the play with the Peanuts characters and the guy who played Linus really took it too far, walking around all the time dragging a blanket on campus lol. Some people even think that the actor becomes demon possessed as the character, they had a whole RUclips video on that saying Heath Ledger was demon possessed as the joker. It was some scary stuff.

15 years later, and i still get teary eyed watching this. Heath was a great actor, I loved him in a Knights Tale. Sadly, he started doing bigger projects, which meant more money but more stress, and he turned to drugs. Rest easy, you will be missed.

I watched The Dark Knight at 2am on premiere night after a twelve hour shift. Any other 2 1/2 hr movie would’ve put me to sleep. I watched Heath’s performance and the buzz from his energy kept me up and talking about it for at least another four hours after. Truly remarkable

While it has been said that they only gave him the Oscar because of his death, I think it was well deserved. His version of the Joker is not only one of the best superhero movie villains, but one of the most iconic villain portrayals ever.

It's beyond ridiculous for anyone to suggest that. This is one of the greatest performances in movie history and it has nothing to do with the actor dying. This movie changed superhero movies forever and it was mainly bc of this character.
I often wonder what heath would've said had he lived. I bet he would've thanked his family, christopher nolan, christian bale, his fellow nominees and i bet he would've been so overwhelmed by the support.

Jackson to Mr. T, and couldn't get out of that role for dear life. In a comedy movie. I remember, I missed the first 20 minutes and had no idea who that black dude was. And I wondered where tf that Downey Jr guy was. For all those layers of personalities the nomination was absolutely cromulent.
