@@MikinessAnalog Well, if a movie is earth/human based, then yes, I agree that realism should take precedence over "artistic license". Like a silent explosion, or the harshness and unsurvivability of space. Interstellar is very much a human story, and as such it should follow "our" rules... And it does. But as many seem to forget - me included from time to time - every Star Wars movie begins with the words "A long time ago in a galaxy far far away...", so not only does it take place in the past, it takes place in an entirely different galaxy... Luke, Han, Leia etc aren't human. They're human-shaped, but not humans, and Earth is nowhere to be seen. So even while "no sound in space" would still be eligible wherever Star Wars takes place, I am more than ok with granting it all kinds of artistic license, since it takes place in another world and another time.

A robot can be programmed with survival. It will weigh in the risks of doing it or not and choose the most likely path for survival. However survival for a robot may be different from a human, depends on how its programmed.
Can you all imagine Nolan and Zimmer have made one of the most interesting sequence in a scifi movie about... docking? Not about space battles, not about blowing up planets, not about meeting aliens from another galaxy. It is about docking, guys. Docking! Think about that!
True. And the scene it just so incredible on rewatch when you know Cooper was picked for these exact scenarios anyone else would’ve passed out from all the force but not Coop! He was always ready since the crash at the beginning of the movie 😌
It keeps it grounded. Even though it’s sci fi, it’s not completely over the top. Even though it’s not 100% scientifically accurate (and it shouldn’t be, it’s a movie after all)l they’ve done a good enough job for 99.9% people. When you keep something so close to reality, people are more interested. (One of the reason characters like batman are so darn popular)
Exactly. Nolan set up twice earlier in the film how difficult it is. Super hero and alien movies skip over what they believe audiences find mundane and boring, but Nolan understands and represents that what we think is boring is still extremely difficult - like landing a plane for the first time, or backing a 53' trailer on the blind side into a dock - people think these things are easy until they try it... then they respect it. Nolan communicates the challenge through foreshadowing, dialog, and nuance (Hathaway passing out and waking up with her "how did you do this" expression). In an alien or superhero movie Will Smith would have done this nonchalant with a witty remark or two. The real artist uses their tools to communicate the gravity of situations to people who have never experienced them. Few people have ever had a knife or gun pulled on them, and they do not understand the fear and reality you are suddenly faced with. They see movies and think they would grab the knife or the gun and punch their assailant. I think the reason film makers favor over the top is because in a way it is less challenging than really understanding and communicating what makes a little old knife scary on the big screen, so they go with a laser canon. When a knife goes in you feel the cold of the blade. A laser canon sounds good compared to that. Using real story telling to help your audience understand the challenges the characters face when they have never done anything like it... that is art.

If avatar can be re released after 12 years , so can Interstellar. We all want it , why isn't it being done. It would literally be a global record breaker in terms of collection purely because of the anticipation people have for watching it in the big screens with those speakers to listen to hans Zimmer and nolan creating the best theatre experience ever
Christopher Nolan: hey Neil what’s the most boring thing about space Neil degrasse Tyson: uh idk docking Christopher: let’s make it the most interesting Hans Zimmer: I’ll help
I still remember as if it was yesterday.... 2014 sitting with my now ex, we were about to watch a marvel movie but trailers started to go before the movie start and I saw for the first time the trailer for interstellar and after I finished...something changed inside me, I knew I couldn't miss it, I had to see that movie when it comes out. Told my ex, we coming to see that!. So we did and to this point I am yet to see another movie that would make me smile, bring tears to my eyes, make me want to jump out of my seat and just leave me plain hopeless, lost and just reboot me in such a way that when it got to the end I was still stuck in my chair thinking faster than the endurance going through the wormhole, kept being like that until I got to the car, to home and until I went to sleep. Since 2014 I have been saying to everyone if I ever get Alzheimer's I want this movie to be played to me every single fucking day for the rest of my days! That line is going on my will!
That's gotta be one of the craziest scenes ever created in cinematic history, the music and editing are just phenomenal, Nolan doesn't get enough praise for Interstellar, it truly is one of the best space movies ever made.
Even 6 years later, the most intense cinematic experience I've ever witnessed. Hearing the live orchestra play and the audience breaking into spontaneous applause after "Killing main engines!" is icing on the cake.

When the church organ plays after Cooper says "docking" sends so many chills down my spine, although I didn't get the chance to see this in theater I watched this on blu-ray and it didn't do me well but at least I got to see this amazing film!
+God ah for christ sake! Oh.. sorry god. But yea you should have seen this in the theater.. Every movie i have seen that had space in it was amazing in theater. I was a complete wreck when i left the cinema after this movie. Almost had to cry because of that sound track.
Kennedy Lajustra if you compare with the movie version, we ça notice music here starts later. In the movie, music starts loudly Just after he said "docking" and here there is few seconds before. These details add something different making this performance unique. That's very interesting :)
I was so blessed when this film came out, i was working at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood at the time and had a unique position to leave and watch just this scene over and over. The sound system and shape of the dome creates a special noise no other theater can replicate. Watched it at least 2 times a day for weeks. Even the director Christopher Nolan would sneak in and watch it with the audience because he favored the Dome's sound. But what i find cool is not even Nolan the guy who made it, got to enjoy this scene as many times as me...I'm the only one in the world ^.^
i appreciate how the orchestra suddenly stops during the explosion since it's from the perspective of being on a vacuum. adding sound over explosions in space is always silly, because the alternative (total silence) is way more engaging and eerie
this is one of the main reasons theatres shouldn’t go out of business or be put to the side because of moments like these that can’t be replicated/made at home. legendary. started tearing up a little and getting goosebumps just by the energy.
One of my favorite parts about this scene is you can literally see Cooper's thought process through his facial expressions. You can see the moment he recognizes that without that ship, they're dead. He notices that it's spinning in axis to the bottom docking port and that if they're going to make it out alive, he needs to dock to it.
Something a lot of movie makers need to learn as well as shows and books. So many shove everything in our faces, but as a writer myself my favorite concept is "show us, don't tell us." This movie is fantastic at conveying thoughts through expression.
It blows my mind about how every detail was kept in mind. The radio transmission took longer to travel and by the time it did , they could see the explosion already .🔥❤️

Today I saw the movie again..I have already been 79 times and I still get excited and find things that seem wonderful to me ..the combinations of music scenes are really great..I'm 62 years old and I have been a movie and music fan for as long as I can remember but I have not encountered anything like this work in my life. The genius of Nolan and Zimmer is innate and incredible how is join issues as complex as the physical, technological, human, emotional, and they achieve this by making their creation a colossal work.
I remember i literally peed during this scene..man!! That applause from the crowd just shows how a movie should be made!! This scene just made my quarantine way better than just spending time on normal days!!!
I remember watching this in theatre when it came out back in India. I remember my dad having his jaw dropped. I remember him enjoying this movie (especially the blackhole scene as he is a HUGE Sci--fi fanatic) and wondering to myself.. why exactly is this so good? I saw it on my own around a decade later with all the new knowledge and guess what.. I had my jaw dropped lower than ever before. I cant wait for when we are all bored of superhero movies and true cinema/storytelling/concept based filmmaking comes back! We need more originals like this! I miss true cinema man.
Movies like these are not meant to see but to be understood! And music like this is not produced to be heard but to be felt! A True masterpiece even after 10years of it's release

I was there 😀 Sound-wise, It was like watching the movie in IMAX x 10. Better still, I think it was the musicians that recorded the soundtrack, including Hans Ziimer on keyboards and it was preceded by a talk between Hans Zimmer, Chris Nolan, Kip Thorne, Prof. Brian Cox and Stephen Hawking IIRC.

They didn't even nominate Interstellar 😱😱

just decided to watch this film on a whim last night. One of the best decisions of my life.
I'm in love with the part Cooper said come on TARS. So much powerful and maid me cry with hope.
It's "made"
I was so blessed when this film came out, i was working at the Cinerama Dome in Hollywood at the time and had a unique position to leave and watch just this scene over and over. The sound system and shape of the dome creates a special noise no other theater can replicate. Watched it at least 2 times a day for weeks. Even the director Christopher Nolan would sneak in and watch it with the audience because he favored the Dome's sound. But what i find cool is not even Nolan the guy who made it, got to enjoy this scene as many times as me...I'm the only one in the world ^.^
Man.. You are lucky. I would do anything to see this film in theater let alone Cinemara Dome! And to see Christopher Nolan one of my idols.

i appreciate how the orchestra suddenly stops during the explosion since it's from the perspective of being on a vacuum.
adding sound over explosions in space is always silly, because the alternative (total silence) is way more engaging and eerie
this is one of the main reasons theatres shouldn’t go out of business or be put to the side because of moments like these that can’t be replicated/made at home. legendary. started tearing up a little and getting goosebumps just by the energy.

One of my favorite parts about this scene is you can literally see Cooper's thought process through his facial expressions. You can see the moment he recognizes that without that ship, they're dead. He notices that it's spinning in axis to the bottom docking port and that if they're going to make it out alive, he needs to dock to it.
Love how he didn’t hesitate either
Something a lot of movie makers need to learn as well as shows and books. So many shove everything in our faces, but as a writer myself my favorite concept is "show us, don't tell us." This movie is fantastic at conveying thoughts through expression.
I’d pay good money again to see this in theaters with the live orchestra.
I’d pay $500 per seat
