      It's not just that he made the decision it's that he clearly knew it was necessary before he saw what the impact of the failed docking procedure was - he back off, then geared up for a run in ready to dock with the remains if there were any. After all, the alternative is 'starve on an uninhabitable planet' so it's more that he is pessimistic enough to think through the alternative.

    To think that Dr. Mann was unable to manually dock with the Endurance while it was stationary, and moments later Cooper and TARS were able to do it while it was spinning at 68 rotations per minute and plummeting toward the planet with no heat shield to protect it from incineration. Absolutely heroic feat.

    • @Morpheus-pt3wq
      @Morpheus-pt3wq 3 месяца назад +15

      Cooper had plot armor. To think the Endurance would only start spinning as a fan and not add any other different rotations... And then, when he docked, it´s hard to believe such big mass of moving metal would stop spinning, because he used thrusters on his shuttle (designed to only move the shuttle around and not such large station) without obliterating the hatch they were docked at... Lastly, as they fired the main engines, they should´ve started spinning the whole station in a different way instead of moving it out of atmosphere.
      To finish it off, why such large ship does not have its own stabilizing computer? Even with the destroyed part, it would be fairly easy for it to recognize its own speed of spin, descend, etc. and take appropriate measures to stabilize itself.
      Too much fiction, not enough science.
      It´s in the movie, because it looks cool.
      Only great thing about this movie is the music. Simple, yet very enjoyable.

    • @Burtonesque413
      @Burtonesque413 3 месяца назад +38

      @@Morpheus-pt3wq funny you should say that, as this film is actually hailed as being among the most scientifically accurate scifi films in the last 20 years. It even had the foremost theoretical physicist, Kip Thorne, directly consult on the film so the science/theoretical science in the film was at least reasonably sound, although of course liberties will be taken for the sake of the story. There is plot armor riddled throughout almost every film out there, so I seldom use that to undermine the other strengths of the film.

      The movie isn't too old, but what's really important is that Nolan prefers using practical effects over computer effects whenever he can. He only adds CGI as a last resort, and even then, only to enhance the practical effects. Unlike many modern movies that rely too much on CGI, Nolan's approach helps keep things looking more realistic. Sometimes in those other movies, the CGI is rushed, and it ends up making things look fake.

    Very enjoyable evening with some great playing but when they played this piece of music I was disappointed. It was a piece I was deeply looking forward to but it didn’t have the volume or the breadth that the original score has.
