She doesn't know her job. If she was a soldier, it would be right to stand with him at the last.
      But she is not
She is a target, and he is her bodyguard; it's her place to run, and his job is to lay his life down for her.
For me the more powerful part is at the end, when he fulfills the task, and dies peacefully in the company of his enemies so that she may live.

After Top Gun (1986), the late Tony Scott wanted to adapt the A. J. Quinnell novel of Man on Fire.
Instead it was made into a film with Scott Glenn as Creasy, co-starring Joe Pesci and with limited release for only 3 countries in 1987.
    T. Scott circled back around to the story, over a decade later.
If it was going to be remade, it would be timely to the kidnappings occurring in Italy.
This would be Denzel and Tony's second film together.
Also the first real Denzel flick as an avenging angel.
When he gets these guys for what they did, no mercy whatsoever.
It makes you appreciate DW even more in The Book of Eli and the Equalizer trilogy.
    All the Tony Scott signatures.
Highly visual with a total intensity.
Close-ups, background, with or without movement.
The lighting does make it look like an much older film.
Denzel & Dakota are wonderful in their portrayals and the onscreen relationship is touching as it should be.
The supporting cast is good too.
Other players in their roles don't chew up as much as the primary one, but that's ok.
Creasy survived in the 1987 version.
Having him perish as an selfless act for the 2004 version was just as gratifying.

The fact that Denzel Washington can play an angel a cop a CIA agent and an assassin with the same intensity and you do not confuse him with any other characters that he's played is a testament to not only his range but his ability as an actor to draw you into the movie without falling into the trap that some actors do oh hey that's so and so regardless of what they play that's so and so when Denzel plays a character he is the character he is not Denzel Washington he is whatever he wants to be at that moment the dude is truly a remarkable chameleon

Quentin Tarantino explained on a podcast how he and Tony Scott's approaches to filmmaking are completely opposite. He also said he wasn't insulting Scott's approach at all, it was simply different. Tarantino said he sets up one camera, and sets up the scene exactly how he wants it. Apparently, Scott would set up a whole bunch of cameras, and then spend hours editing the footage together, which is why you see the frenetic editing and quick pacing in his movies. Cool example of how two people can approach a job from totally different angles, and still end up with awesome results. This movie directed by Tarantino probably would not have been good, and Pulp Fiction by Tony Scott, probably not good either.
    Very interesting.

Una palabra/One word - English translation
    One word doesn't say anything
and at the same time it hides everything.
like the wind that hides the water,
like the flowers that hide the mud.
    A glance doesn't say anything
and at the same time says everything.
Like the rain on your face
    or an old treasure map.
    A truth doesn't say anything
and at the same time it hides everything.
Like a bonfire that won't go out,
like a stone that gives birth to dust.
If one day I don't have you I will be nothing
and at the same time I will be everything.

GREAT job. I do believe you skipped over what might be the most important visual ( scene ) in the movie. When Creasy attempts suicide then calls Rayburn, after their conversation ( a bullet always tells the truth) ends and Creasy is broken and sitting in the rain he looks up and sees Pita looking down on him a broken man hired to protect a child and who just attempted suicide because of his haunting past deeds. I believe this scene changes his entire outlook. He realizes that he's the body guard but he's now protecting his guardian angel. That is how I saw this scene. Thank you for reviewing this GREAT GREAT movie

If you guys love to see this type of Denzel character in the movie, you guys should react to “John Q.” (2002). It’s based on a true actual story that being broadcasted on mainstream media/news back in the day. That film tells you that who Denzel is. And how good an actor he is. It’s just the beginning of the rise of his career from then onwards😊

Tony Scott, Denzel Washington, and Harry Gregson Williams, were such great pair of film pairings. I’m glad Harry still scores Denzel’s films

This is an all time great movie. In same vein as The Professional. Saw it in the theatre and then bought it when it came out on DVD. In my top 50 all time movies.

Massively underrated film and hands down one of my favourites. DVD extra they had an alternate ending continuing from the end of what you saw, where creasy is just about conscious talking to the voice and then he asks him if he ever sees the hand of god in what he does… followed by a smirk and the beeping of a pager!

Re-watching some of these scenes, one thing I really respect about the movie is how many times Creasy's character gets shot. Like he gets shot a lot! It's not like in a lot of movies where no bullets hit them because they're so good. He's so good, he gets shot but keeps going.

Love this movie. It was a big surprise when I found out a few weeks ago it's actually a remake of a 1987 movie set in Italy with Scott Glen as Creasy and a really young Joe Pesci playing the Christopher Walken character.

There's 2 lines you cut from the reaction that are among my favourites,
When the cop with the bomb in him has seconds left Creasey intentionally draws out, I wish....... You had......... More time.
The other is when the good cop is talking with Christopher Walken, it's something along the lines of, "Every man is an artist at what he does. Creasey's art is Death, and he's about to paint his masterpiece."

You are correct, that is Clair de Lune. It was composed by Claude Debussy in 1905.
