Bob and Brad discuss the potential causes of bow-leggedness or genu varum. They provide options to assist with lessening the effects, as the shape of the bones will not be changed with exercises but muscles and bones can be strengthened.

I know a man who used to be very severely bow-legged until he had double knee replacement operations done when he was in his mid-70s. Several months after the replacements he greeted me at a party, and I did not recognize him until he was walking away and other guests were greeting him by his name. Not only were his legs perfectly straight, but he was also at least 3 inches taller than before!

Bob & Brad, you give many examples on how to make bowlegs worst. This is the proof that we can change the shape. If we take you well thought out list of how to exacerbate the problem and do the opposite 1 Buy shows with outer edge raised. 2. Stand correct 3 The leg support to push legs together, the staves. 4. I am going to greatly increase the inner thy muscles and decrease the outer thy muscles so the muscles are pulling my legs back into alignment - Mine was cause mostly by walking in flipflop sandals as a world traveler for 25 years. I now only wear good shoes, or sandals with back straps Life is good. Andy Lee Graham

I have bow legs....if you are physically active ... Few major problems i would mention that your anterior tibial muscles will get weak because of the deformity and they will be painful..plus your lateral side of feet gonna have more pressure, making it painful on that side because of the inversion of the feet..plus you gonna have painful gluteus medius coz of that deformity...so massage would help alot..shin splint exercises gonna help lot and for feet you can add on custom orthotics which can even out the pressure on feet..hope it helps docs😁😁😁..and by the way i love your content❣️

I have bow legs with knee pain. The specialist recommended total knee replacement for OA. I happened to see a podiatrist's youtube video who explained ankle alignment affects the knee alignment. He said shoe inserts (Dr Scholl' "Knee" shoe inserts--make sure it says for "Knee" pain) will correct the knee alignment. I couldn't believe something so simple could really help (my expensive "off loading" knee braces were not helping much) So for the price of a Starbucks, I have virtually eliminated my knee pain! Shoe inserts Work! (This is an unsponsored testimonial- I have no affiliation with Dr Scholl's)

I am bow legged. The bones in my tibia and fibula are curved. There is some discussion that over time, the thinning of the cartilage on the interior sides of the knee are stressed more because of the non-straight line of ankle to knee. Perhaps you could review bow legs, OA, running, and knee pain. I am a runner and I am 60. and I have knee pain, but have been reducing the pain, and improving my range of motion and function with the advice on this channel. thanks guys.

My knees to be corrected and now surgery is now I will have this done on Monday the 15 of may. I think the natural gait from people who live in nature and spend less time doing the sedentary western lifestyle shows that significant weight on the outside edge of the feet is better than the inside edge along with feet pointed straight. In Western society with its hundreds of thousands of knee and knee cartilage (ACL, MCL, meniscus, etc.) surgeries a year the trend is weight on the inside and feet pointed out which is how you end up tearing things up. The moral of the story is keep your feet straight, butt slightly behind rib cage, and most weight on the outside edge of your feet OR do whatever the heck you wanna do, just be ready for some pain and potentially surgeries.

Currently I reckon my bow legs are 80 per cent improved. I think obesity (fat in thighs) can also excerbate this issue.

Hello, I have bow legs and I'm only 15yrsold. is their any possible solution that won't pay money, cause I think I'm too broke.. Guessing that a surgery might costs half of my life. I been walking awkwardly and when I take Pic, all I can notice was my legs being weird to look at. Even when I sit my legs still look weird..
Are the exercises here on YT can change it? Or are those really effective, I saw a lot of comments that the exercise works. Some said it took long enough to actually have normal legs doing that exercise, so just a question does that exercise works even if takes a year or two?
And based on what I have searched, mine might have become bowlegs because of how I sit. I usually sit on the floor crossed legs for the past 2 years because I mostly on my phone and Im comfortable with it during those times. Now I regret it.. It also affected my back, I get back pains because of it as well.. My mom said I'm still young so there's still time to fix my back.. But I'm not sure if I can still change my bow leg..

Bow leggedness could be a symptom of muscle weaknesses and imbalances in the legs. Your bones might be straight but the muscles around your knees might be weak forcing the knee to go outward. It might be fixable with exercises depending on what causes the bowleggedness. If you're bowleggedness because of a skeletal deformity then surgery is the way to go. If the bowleggedness comes from muscle weaknesses, then it is fixable with exercises

My mother was 4'-11', all of 90lbs, and carried me nearly 10mos. I wore a leg brace, and shoes on the wrong foot, for x-amount of time as an infant and toddler. I ran XC and Track in high school, and XC through 2 years of college. I first noticed my legs were bowed, in about my Freshman or Sophomore year in high school. I'm 58 now, and of course still have bowed legs. I'm still a runner, on trails, not roads and sidewalks, train year round, and do stuff like run R2R and Rim2River at the Grand Canyon (8 R2R's in the last 7yrs and 4 Rim2Rivers in the last 2 years). The knee pain is becoming worse, and more frequent/prevalent. I had my knees x-rayed this week, and saw a specialist today. The insides of both knee joints look like all the other x-rays you see in videos on YT about bowed legs. The doctor couldn't believe that I run at all, let alone that I do stuff like R2R and the training it takes for it. The key.....I started running in Vibram FiveFingers in 2012. Vids on my channel. Anyway, back to the point, I am considering the leg straighten surgery, after the sobering consult today. I'm also going to do stem cell with PRP injections in both knees.

I had it done to my right knee for that reason (bowlegged 12 degrees in both knees) and such a big difference in stability and pain reduction, almost zero pain. I had the same pain in the inside of knees. I had the ibalance HTO. That was 2 years ago. It does make your leg straight, a little longer, about 1/2 ", so I was walking with limp. I recently did the left to even things out. One last thing, I was 50 and with pain, but they wanted me to wait until 65 to do tkr.
