I, 72 year old man has suffered hip pain for over 10 years. Sometimes every step feels like your hip is getting stabbed with a screwdriver. Been to many Doctor's and Physical therapists. No help. Several months ago I tried some hip stretches, within a week my pain was GONE! Now I am back on the tredmill getting good cardio workouts. I spend about 1/2 hour stretching after the35 minute fast walk. It is a blessing, no meds, no Dr.s, just simple stretching of the hips!
@@BobandBraddoes the hip and groin works in conjunction to each other. Been having groin and hip pain when I sit or go to bed at night and wake to get out of bed
This is exactly what I needed. I have been struggling with pain in my hip but only after sitting, once I walk around it fine. Now I know why! Thank you Brad & Mike! Say hi to Bob!!! 😉
It NEVER FAILS! You guys provide excellent advice, with practical steps I can take. I DO have hip pain, and after just a few of these exercises, I am feeling improvement. Shout outs to you for making truly useful videos! THANK YOU!
Thank you so much! I was having hip pain for the first time in my life so I was pretty scared. My sister shared your video with me and so I tried the exercises. You guys are a blessing! Thank you bunches!!!!! ❤
Lol. I said to my massage therapist wife this morning, “I played golf yesterday for the first time in awhile and it hurts here.” She said you need to stretch your hip. I opened RUclips and this video magically appeared! Well done guys; much appreciated.
My whole problem ended up being that I had to have both of my hips replaced because I didn’t have any cartilage left plus I had two bone spurs on each hip joint, after surgery I had immediate relief. So glad for having that surgery.
I am so sorry to hear of Bob's health issue. You were a great team - helpful, knowledgeable and entertaining to watch! I'm glad you will continue to be involved. I will keep you in my prayers. Best to you Mike. Big shoes to fill, but sounds like you're off to a running start. Best to all of you and thank you for the work you do. Great to know you're there when I run into trouble. You always have great advice presented with humor and compassion.
I came across this video and I think this is the answer to my hip problem. I'm 72 and sit quite a bit. The pain started several months ago and just taking a step was very painful in the front of my hip and down my thigh. I ride a stationary bin which seems to help but my leg I'd still very painful and feels like lead sometimes. I'm going to try these exercises to see if I can get relief.
Hey guys, Im getting terrible burning & what feels like my hip trying to pop out, right in the middle of butt cheek. Dr says hips look good in x-rays. Im also having trouble with hip flexor muscles, lower back pain. I have a fusion from L 12 up about 10-12 inches. Is it ok to do these stretching exercises? So broke from co pays & I dont feel like Drs or therapists are well educated. You guys seem to know much more. Thanks p.s. they are ortho docs
Quite a timing, Brad and Mike ! I just finished my hip exercises. Yours are different, and I can't wait to try them. Also, I'll make sure I'll watch the next video to strengthen my hips. Thanks ! Love your socks, Brad 😄
Thanks so much, SO MUCH, Bob & Brad & Mike, my hips are a big part of my long "problem-list" at the moment, but definitely have been experiencing stiffness, hip pain several ways, and surely caused by decades of sitting, hunching over a computer - "secretarial spread" is a real thing! the hips have forgotten how to be hippy, and I used to have some AMAAAAAZingly hippy hips! I really appreciated that demo at the beginning explaining what the inner workings look like, and how that seated-(50 hrs /week +) - posture, can cut off the necessary fluids-flow and energy that is totally the case. well I am semi-retired now, so only obligated to be seated about 20 hrs a week, plus personal desk time, also significant , but better than before! I am going to try these out & keep watching, THANK YOU!!! also right knee problems & everything needs to work together!
Glad to see Mike getting cramps. I say that because I fight a lot of cramps when I do stuff like this. Now I don't feel like I'm inferior. Thanks for the video!
That "noodling" element Brad demonstrated on the stool was something I had not been shown by my physical therapist, and it really works. Thanks for showing us all that.
I have a large abdomen and I am actively working at loosing weight, what are good stretches to strengthen my pelvic floor muscles and the upper part of my hips from pulling!! Thank you for these I have been applying many of your stretches and wow have they helped!! Sometimes when I’m on the floor some stretches are causing the other foot to pull inward feels like a Charlie horse but from my calf to my arch of my foot sometimes but even that has been minimal so thanks❤❤❤❤❤❤
Very helpful, thank you. I worked along with you as I laid in bed. Will continue with these. Thanks again. 😊 Good to see Mike smile and laugh and respond to you Brad. 😅
Best socks ever!!! Thanks for the tips and explanation. Been struggling with this for a year or so and it has affected my sleep greatly. Keep up the good work, Bob & Brad! And welcome to the new dude!
thanks, guys!! Been having SO MUCH hip pain lately so I thought I'd come on here and search for a video, and it didn't take long to find just what I needed!! This is new pain for me, and coincidentally my sister!
I've come to the point where, when putting on my socks standing up, one leg will not come above knee when that sideways position is needed. It's not painful. It just won't come. I'm going to try a couple of these exercises to see if that will bring back the proper motion. Thank you.
You guys are seriously the best! I can’t thank you enough. I’m in such bad shape I cringe watching sometimes. I believe I have a compounded situation. Hip bursitis, hip arthritis & knee arthritis. These issues make it so hard to function day to day. While I’m waiting on my doctors appointments your videos offer so much detail & insight. Thank you again
I just love these. Between your channel and gentle flow yoga, this history professor combats the consequences of her cloistered profession. Also your socks are ❤ .
I am 74, and have had this hip pain for about 3 months now. I have been doing stretches and exercising to make glute muscles stronger. I still have pain when sleeping, and it gets me up. I however do not have pain when walking. But of course I willl keep doing the exercises and stretches
Yogi here ( ie I practice yoga). We do these stretches (aka asanas) all the time. Three things you forgot to mention about the piriformis ("Figure 4") stretch: 1) Do NOT bounce the top knee when top leg is flexed over the other. Bouncing is bad, do gentle pushing movement - think butterfly light. Mike is right, gently press on inside knee to increase stretch intensity. 2) You MUST FLEX or POINT the foot of the bent top leg. Flex is better; flexing/pointing activates the knee muscles and prevents the knee joint from torque. Very important for knee & ankle support. 3) NEVER rest the top ankle joint on the leg. It's too easy to let the ankle joint bend. Doing that messes up the ankle, knee and hip. Ideally, it’s the top of the joint just clearing the bottom leg. If it’s too hard, do the stretch with one leg flat on the floor. And FLEX that top foot! Keep up the great work!
My hips are extremely stiff after receiving pelvic radiation ten years ago. I see a couple new stretches here that I haven't attempted. Thank you for all the informative videos.
Hello, Brand and Mike!🙂 Love this video!❤🙂 Please, do make more videos about this issue. 🙏 I do get a pinch on my right leg when I do a hip flexion with knee bent but NOT when I do a hip flexion with my leg straight. I haven’t found a thing online/youtube that could explain my issue. MRI shows nothing. Everything in the MRI was fine and conserved (aside from the incipient gluteal medius tendinopathy on both sides). I am super weak and inactive, with hip pain but I’m not sure if that’s related to my pinch on my right hip. Hopefully these stretches (but the hip flexion) will help me. Maybe I have this and my Osteopath just doesn’t know about this syndrome. Thank you always for all your help. 🙏 Big Hugs to Bob!❤️
I've learned to not stretch my hips without first doing strengthening exercises for the glutes and hips. Over time, too much stretching without strengthening can actually increase pain and risk of injury.
I'm going to PT for numbness in my front left leg from the bend of my leg down to my knee. I am trying to figure out which way I need to move to stop it when it happens. I have tendonosis in my hips as well as a pinched nerve in my left low back. And a tear in each hip tendon. When I get in my hubby's tall truck, I put one foot on the step and do a deep stretch against the truck. I repeat it on the other side. Before I pull myself up into his truck. It feels good when I do that. And it's like your stool stretch. I also do most if the stretches you've shown. I still don't know how to undov the numbness. I'm working on it. 😊❤ Thanks for all your tips!!! ❤
