I’ve watched several yarn reviews and I just wanted to stop and thank you for taking the time to crochet samples of the different variations to show the subtle differences between them all. Super helpful and informative! Thank you 😊
Thanks so much, great info! Two other yarns I like are Big Twist Posh and Big Twist Baby Bear. They are both very sturdy and soft and the Baby Bear is super soft. Limited colors though.
I just got the Bernat Baby in bubblegum for some heart pillows I’m going to make and sell for Valentine’s Day and I got a super deal for only $7.57 at Joann’s with a coupon on top of it being on sale! Super great value and it’s working up great! So glad it’s number 1!
Thank you for that extensive testing! Eye-opening! ❤❤✌️ My experience with some of the yarn and techniques in general: - different dyes/processes can make the same yarn feel and work different in different colors I've been using Bernat Velvet quite a bit: + very soft + can be frogged carefully with some caution + fairly robust + has a nice shimmer - hard to see stitches (feeling is key sometimes and COUNTING IS KEY) - works up taller (so adjustments in the height of certain pieces have to made to keep general shape as per a pattern) - holes in amigurumi usually appear at in- and decreases: a) invisible decreases (keep things tight) - dip in the FRONTLOOPS ONLY (front to back, come out in middle of V) of the 2 stitches that need decreasing, then pull up a loop through the two frontloops now on hook, then finish sc per usual (combine the increase stitches first, before finishing the stitch) b) low impact increases - make the first increase stitch in the BACKLOOP ONLY, then the second increase stitch through both loops as usual (since there's only one stitch visibly going through the front, the hole is minimal or doesn't show at all) Happy Hooking! 🧶
This was super helpful! I love yarn reviews because I often order online and it's so hit or miss when you can't feel the yarn yourself before buying! It's great to know more about a yarn before I order.
The only way I could comment was to reply, but this was very helpful and I must be a new bestie 😂yep I made it to the end, very informative thanks again❤❤❤❤❤
I think I watched all of your yarn comparison videos at this point and I have to say yours are the best. I tried so many awesome yarns because of you! thanks for putting this information out there!
Thank you for this! I came here after I opened my first shipment of yarn and my Bernat Baby blanket yarn was so stiff and not soft at all, but the normal Bernat Blanket was soft!! Thanks to your video I don't feel crazy any more lol
Also, have you tried the Premier Parfait Chunky Pom Pom yet? I'm working with it now and I love love love it! I feel like it's stronger than the regular parfait chunky and the colors are just amazing!
I heard that too, and I sure hope it’s true! But the yarns I have currently, one of the soft ones is from February, and one of the not so soft ones was manufactured in April 🤷🏻♀️I’m holding out hope!!
I have been eyeing the Hobbii Baby Snuggle and Honey Bunny but have to deplete my Parfait Chunky stock before I can justify the price. Having said that, I really had to resist the sale they just had.
Thanks for your help! I’m new to fluffy yarn and I messed up by buying the cheaper option at Michael’s, Loops and Threads rather than Bernard Blanket. L & T shed so much and broke when I tried to sew my pieces together.
Thank you for your comprehensive comparison! I'm looking for soft yarns but detest working with the ones that shed a lot & leave spaces with 2 threads instead of soft fuzzy yarn. You've gained a new subscriber 😊
This was my first time watching you.🤗 I really loved all the details of your yarn review! I usually use Bernat Baby Blanket and Premier Parfait Chunky. After your review, I'm going to try Sweet Snuggles Lite Chenille. I made a snake for my granddaughter for Christmas and used Bernat Baby Sparkle in Rose Glow. It turned out really nice and she loved it but, it was definitely stiffer to work with, hard on the hands as it didn't glide on the hook. I thought it was probably due to the sparkle 🤷🏼♀️ I used Big Twist Plush to make a flower power pillow for another granddaughter for Christmas and it was really great to work with. She loved it! It was nice on the hook and felt great on the hands. Have a wonderful day!🤗
I have had that problem with Parfait Chunky as well, but only with white. So I use other yarns when I need to use a lot of white in my pattern. And I recommend using a worsted weight when sewing is involved. Or you might go crazy.
Thank you so much for sharing your research. I'm about to make my 1st plushie Cow. I've been using Bernat blanket yarn for quick soft blankets. I was wondering if I need yarn exclusive for plushie's.
I absolutely love the yarns you chose. I too enjoy Bernat, Chenille home slim/Sweet Snuggles Lite, and Premier Parfait chunky. I also have a love for Bernat velvet as it’s so soft!!!
Great review. Thank you. I see so many people raving about Bernat Blanket, but I just don’t like working with it. I will definitely check out their baby blanket now. I have used the sweet snuggles lite, and love it. It’s on sale now. I think I’ll go yarn shopping
You should totally go yarn shopping! My Michael’s only had one sad skein of Chenille home slim left, and zero sweet snuggles! Wishing you better luck! Thanks for watching!!
I love the carebear in the background. Thank you for this. I got a chunky yarn and tried to crochet with it, but it kept falling apart and I thought it was my fault. Now I know, there are different ones and even within the same brand can have differences. I appreciate knowing it's not necessarily me.
You do a great job with your explanations and examples. I wish you had some other brands though. For example Loops & Threads or Big Twist. Maybe another video?
Thank you very much for this comparison. I am new to crocheting with chenille yarn and did not know where to start. You have taken out all the guess work. Looking foward to more of your videos.
Thanks so much for watching! I hope you have fun with them, I have a couple more reviews after this one, but I posted a video today with a new yarn that I think would be really great for beginners!
I use Yarn Bee Cozy Occasion for bucket hats and it works great for that purpose. It’s super rigid 😂 I can’t imagine doing amigurumi with this yarn. But it definitely has a place in my stash ❤
I've been using Premier Retro Velvet lately, it sheds somewhat but there is so many pretty colors! It's size 5 and you can definitely tell. It does not frog well I will say.
I’m going to give that a try! As long as it doesn’t fall apart while I’m working with it, I’m willing to live with some fluff! Thanks for sharing, I see a premier order in my future 😂😂
Is it similar in thickness to parfait chunky / thicker than bernat velvet ? I spent $75 to try multiple colors for their Black Friday sale and I’m nervous/ excited about the order.
@@Alng60971 no, it's more of a similar to bernat velvet. So it's thinner than both parfait chunky and bernat blanket. If you are looking for something similar to parfait chunky, you could try out sweet snuggles lite or chenille home slim. Both from Michaels. In all honesty, I can tell the difference in bernat velvet and retro velvet but it's pretty similar. It is a little tiny bit thicker
I read some reviews while internet digging that said it was thicker than bernat velvet so I finally found someone to ask! Thank you so much for answering me! I typically use Michaels yarn and got into parfait chunky, so hopefully the retro velvet is nice too! you’re comment gives me hope 🤞
Same! The colors are way too limited. It’s such a great size too, I wish parfait were just a little thicker like the Michaels brands! Thanks for watching!!
I really love using the Estako Velvet yarn. It's almost identical to Parfait Chunky. It is sometimes inconsistent in how fluffy/compact it is but for the most part it's great. It also sheds a good bit. A little more than Parfait
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns Just be warned that the biggest down side is the inconsistencies in the skeins like how the Barnat is. You'll get one that's pretty sparse and sheds so much but then get several that are compact and fluffy and shed a little and are great lol
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns Awe, thank you! So do you!!! I've been wanting to do markets but I'm scared, haha! So I wanna catch up on all your market videos to get some courage!! 🥰🧶Big hugs!!
I’m working with the Chenille right now, and already planning a new order! But the stitches definitely disappear when your working, under all that fuzz! Thanks so much for watching! ❤️
I found a couple of chenille/plush yarns from Ice Yarns recently which I'm using for a Season 18 Doctor Who scarf. Both their Suede Chenille and Chenille Baby Light are ranked as CYCA #3 DK, but the Chenille Baby Light is close enough to a #4 worsted-weight that I can use it single-stranded with a 6mm/J hook and it still looks good, while the Suede Chenille (which acts like a "kitchen cotton") is much thinner, almost a #2 sport weight, so I'm using it double-stranded in the scarf project.
I've made a lot of baby blankets from Bernat Baby Blanket (huge "circle in square" squares, with a 10mm hook). I've also made baby blankets with Premier's Just Chenille (from Dollar Tree), but find that I need to go down to a 9mm or 8mm hook to make something dense enough that I'd be comfortable with an infant using it. I haven't even considered making amigurumi with plush yarns; I tend to use the oodles of worsted-weight acrylics in my stash for amigurumi instead.
I have some questions, but I wanna give a little bit of context I’ve been using bernat velvet for most of my Ami projects, and it is still my favorite so far, but it’s more expensive and has pretty limited colors and I wish it was more chunky. I recently got some bernat blanket and sweet snuggles lite. I was underwhelmed with the bernat blanket. It’s sturdy and looks nice, but I do think it’s harder to work with, it drags and it’s a bit more stiff than I like. I have a love hate relationship with sweet snuggles lite so far. I think it’s a perfect in between of Bernat velvet and bernat blanket. It’s softer and smoother to work with than bernat blanket, but definitely chunkier than the velvet. But I have had so much shedding from the ends and those parts were so frustrating to work with. I have only worked with one skein so far, so I don’t know if it varies? But it definitely does not hold up as well as the sweet snuggles examples you showed. I haven’t found anything comparing sweet snuggles and chenille home, either sizes. I know you said they are basically the same, but have you found that you have better luck with the chenille home as far as shedding?
I wish I could tell you there is a consistent answer! But there is no rhyme or reason that I can find, on why some skeins of sweet snuggles and Chenille home shed like crazy, and some don’t. It’s so frustrating! If you’re in the US, give Big Twist posh a try! It’s easier than Bernat Blanket, and doesn’t shed! I still use Parfait and the Michaels yarns, and just hope for the best 😬 it does get easier when you get used to working with it!
Thanks for the information. I'm an experienced crocheter. But, I haven't made "plushies". I've heard from other RUclipsrs that some of the yarn used for plushies is a nightmare to work with. I don't want that. I don't want to waste money and get aggravated. I will be buying some of the number one yarn. Thanks again.
I appreciate this video so very much, thank you! I did my very first market yesterday and sold out. So I had to order bulk yarn and it’s difficult to find plushie yarn here in Australia. I found a place that stocks premier basic chenille and parfait chunky so I ordered A LOT! 😅 Glad I found this video right after placing my order as I was nervous about the quality of the yarn and the big investment I made haha
Hi! Thanks for the review :) I'm pretty new to crocheting and have only been working with worsted yarn. I wanted to try chenille yarn and was wondering if you'd recommend I use the Bernat Blanket or the Chenille Home Slim/Sweet Snuggles Lite? I do like the texture of Chenille Home Slim more but I amm scared because it sheds more 😅
Thank you for this review. Very helpful❣️ I am wondering how good or bad the "Juicy Coture" yarn is. I haven't heard anything about that yarn yet. I almost bought some yesterday at Joann's, but didn't know. The colors are gorgeous, and the sparkle is too❣️ Any comments please? Thank you. Happy crocheting❣️❣️
I love this breakdown. I bought one chenille yarn from premiere and I do not like it. It fell apart if. I were to tug it a little bit it would break. I don't understand how people can love it so much. I feel as if you were to give a toy to a child to play with that thing will fall apart really easily.
Believe it or not, that’s a free pattern I found! Google “stringy ding ding” and it’s on their website! Let me know which one you decide to do! It was super fun, but lots of work and lots of sewing!
Oh my gosh you didn't!! A whole shelf/background!? I'm obsessed. I was staring at that adorable yellow guy behind you the whole time, and the care bear!? 😍😍 Such a good comparison, very interesting to hear how all the different types are when creating. New crochet bestieeee, except I don't crochet...yet anyways 🤔
I love the chenille home/ sweet snuggles, but I do also like parfait chunky , I’m going to try their retro velvet I’m hoping it is worth it but I got it on sale and a bunch of it. 😂
I love your channel. I am a little confused about the Loops and Threads yarns. The links are to 4 different Loops and Threads yarns and I ordering online because I was gifted with Michael’s gift cards. Would you please state which two you recommend as the names can be confusing . Thank you
Your reviews are very helpful! Thank you so much! Could you tell me what Octo pattern you use? I see that All From Jade has 3 or 4 different Octo patterns. I would love to know the one you use.
I wanted to add if you are looking for more content ideas... I would love to see yarn reviews just like this (even the same yarn again) by store. When I decide I want to try a new project, I am so impatient and don't want to wait to have something shipped so knowing the best (and worst) yarns from the local big box stores (Michaels, Hobby Lobby & JoAnns.. maybe throw in Walmart and Dollar Tree) would be handy. I have tried about 4 of the HL plush yarns and I def have some thoughts.. LOL But I am not a youtuber so maybe I will email them to you if I ever sort them out and put them on paper . LOL Anyway, I love your videos and will watch whatever you do next.
YES!!!! I’m having a horrible time with the white Premier Parfait Chunky…. after waiting for my back order to arrive I’m so frustrated with how it seems to disintegrate every few stitches 😢😢😢😢. I ordered a 3-pack and it is from Lot # 4755… curious if you have the same lot. Lol . I also wonder if they were having a hard time getting it to come out right this time and finally just sent out the best of the worst… and that’s why there’s been such a shortage!!!
YES!!! That is exactly the lot number that’s giving me grief. I have some from 5199 that is so much easier to work with. I’m going to email premier about it Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting!! It’s nice to know I’m not just going crazy! 😂
Thank you for doing this video. It's very helpful. sometimes it's difficult to find certain brands and colors in my area. I was wondering though if you have ever worked with Himalayan Dolphin Baby. I would be curious to know where it ranks on your list. Sometimes I order it on amazon when I can't find good yarn locally.
Ohhh, that brand has been in my Amazon cart! I’ll order it! I’m going to make a part 2 soon, as I’ve purchased a few more kinds (Hobbi baby snuggle, parfait XL, and some hobby lobby yarns!)
Awesome video! Love comparison and favorites videos. So happy to see Sweet Snuggles up there. I love that yarn, so soft and easy to work with. Find myself buying that more and more. Not a fan of Bernat Blanket, but wu=ill give Baby Blanket a try! I got bad white Parfait Chunky yarn too. I worte and compalined to Premier, they refunded me. Apparently there is an issue with that color that they were looking into. Thanks for your opinions! Hugs 🦋🦋💖💖 PS: New Subscriber!
Honestly, I go back and forth on which I like best! Today I would say it’s sweet snuggles, tomorrow it might be Bernat baby again 😂😂 Thanks so much for watching!! ♥️
I’m in Canada and it is very hard to find plush amigurumi yarns here. Size 4 chenille is almost impossible. Ordering online with the dollar exchange and import duty makes for very expensive projects.
I just came across your channel, and I am a fan! This was SO helpful, and I appreciate the time, (and money) you took to do these comparisons. I do have a question; I have heard rumors that Bernat is discontinuing their Baby Blanket yarn. Have you or anyone else heard this? I really hope it's just internet gossip :(
Your yarn wall with plushies on top looks amazing ❤ The main brand of plush yarn we get here in Australia is Porta Craft, not sure if you can get that or not.
I just started using bernat blanket after mostly using sweet snuggles lite. There was a color I wanted to use in the bernat baby blanket but wasn't if there was a size difference between the baby and regular blanket. Did your octos from them turn out a similar size? Do you think you could use both of them in the same project?
Hi Kelly! My sweet snuggles lite octo, is noticeably smaller than the Bernat baby. You might be able to make it work if you do a smaller hook size sign the Bernat, and a bigger size with the sweet snuggles lite, but I’d have to experiment. If you message me on IG, I’d be happy to send you a picture of the two octos together, for comparison!
Your video was so informative, I’ve only been trying Amigurumi for 2 months now with Bernat Blanket and ❤ it. What size eyes did you use on your octo’s their so cute, I always have a hard time deciding?
Hi! Thanks so much! For the bigger octos, I used 24mm eyes (I just added the link to the video description if you want to see the exact size!). For the smaller octo, I used 14mm. Hope that helps!!
I’m watching this 3 months after you uploaded but I’m using the Bernat baby sparkle now and it’s SO stiff. I hate it lol. I’m trying to use it up so I never have to buy it again
So many pretty colors!! Wow. #12 seems like it was complete trash! I don’t crochet. I’m mostly just here to admire your pretty yarn wall and to squee every time you show a tiny octo. 😛
I have tried a couple! Have you? I love how they glide, but overall, they are a little short for my big hands 😬 I lucked into a Furls hook, and I’m obsessed with it!
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns yes, I have all the clover, I started with Michael's brand and Susan Bates, I did not like them so I bought a clover and MY LIFE CHANGED!!! 🤣
Why do you downsize your hooks. I want to make med so amiguruni animals such as sea turtle, octopus, octo, whale, etc. which is the best yarn/hook? Thx.

My experience with some of the yarn and techniques in general:
- different dyes/processes can make the same yarn feel and work different in different colors
I've been using Bernat Velvet quite a bit: + very soft + can be frogged carefully with some caution + fairly robust + has a nice shimmer - hard to see stitches (feeling is key sometimes and COUNTING IS KEY) - works up taller (so adjustments in the height of certain pieces have to made to keep general shape as per a pattern)
- holes in amigurumi usually appear at in- and decreases:
a) invisible decreases (keep things tight) - dip in the FRONTLOOPS ONLY (front to back, come out in middle of V) of the 2 stitches that need decreasing, then pull up a loop through the two frontloops now on hook, then finish sc per usual (combine the increase stitches first, before finishing the stitch)
b) low impact increases - make the first increase stitch in the BACKLOOP ONLY, then the second increase stitch through both loops as usual (since there's only one stitch visibly going through the front, the hole is minimal or doesn't show at all)
Happy Hooking! 🧶

Ice yarns are next on my list to order, thanks so much for the feedback!
I’m going to try to do more acrylic yarn amigurumi this year!
I love the yarn background wall. You have so much info. - mari
I have some questions, but I wanna give a little bit of context
I’ve been using bernat velvet for most of my Ami projects, and it is still my favorite so far, but it’s more expensive and has pretty limited colors and I wish it was more chunky.
Glad I found this video right after placing my order as I was nervous about the quality of the yarn and the big investment I made haha
I hope you’re loving it! I really enjoy both of those!
Hi! Thanks for the review :) I'm pretty new to crocheting and have only been working with worsted yarn. I wanted to try chenille yarn and was wondering if you'd recommend I use the Bernat Blanket or the Chenille Home Slim/Sweet Snuggles Lite? I do like the texture of Chenille Home Slim more but I amm scared because it sheds more 😅
Thank you, this was very good information, now I don't have to try them to see how they work up.
Great info on plush yarns cause it’s hard to tell how they are until you buy them!
Right? I’m still on the hunt for the perfect one! Thanks so much for watching!
Loved your intro! Snap!
I love this breakdown. I bought one chenille yarn from premiere and I do not like it. It fell apart if. I were to tug it a little bit it would break. I don't understand how people can love it so much. I feel as if you were to give a toy to a child to play with that thing will fall apart really easily.
Loving the yarn wall. I would love more info on the care bear pattern
Believe it or not, that’s a free pattern I found! Google “stringy ding ding” and it’s on their website! Let me know which one you decide to do! It was super fun, but lots of work and lots of sewing!
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns my favorite care bear is Cheer Bear. I would love to make that one. Thank you for replying. I love your channel.
This video is SO helpful thank you so much!!! What would yous ay the thickest 3-4 are? I'm looking for softish yarn to make jumbo plushies with.
try the Dolce yarn! its amazing!!! similar to parfait and WWWAAAAAYYY more color options!
Thanks for the tip. Adding it to my order list!
Thank you for doing this! It’s so disappointing when the yarn falls out!!
Right? It’s the worst! Thanks for watching Heather!!
I had to Laura!
I love the chenille home/ sweet snuggles, but I do also like parfait chunky , I’m going to try their retro velvet I’m hoping it is worth it but I got it on sale and a bunch of it. 😂
I can’t wait to hear how you like it. I keep meaning to order some!
I use Himalaya Dolphin Baby❤️ definitely comparable and interchangeable with Premier Parfait Chunky and Hobbii Honey Bunny. ❤
I just tried that yarn and I really liked it! Thanks for sharing!
The normal bernat blanket is so so so hard to get in my country ,England
I love your channel. I am a little confused about the Loops and Threads yarns. The links are to 4 different Loops and Threads yarns and I ordering online because I was gifted with Michael’s gift cards. Would you please state which two you recommend as the names can be confusing . Thank you
hi im so glad to find u subscribed from both of my channels , wrote all these yarn down thank u so much so helpful
Aww, thanks! I really appreciate the support!
What pattern do you use for the octopus??😃
LOL
Anyway, I love your videos and will watch whatever you do next.
I’m going to email premier about it
Thanks so much for watching, and for commenting!!
Love your octopus!! What pattern are they?🥰
Awesome video!
Today I would say it’s sweet snuggles, tomorrow it might be Bernat baby again 😂😂
Thanks so much for watching!! ♥️
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns … I know what you mean. I love Parfait Chunky, but it’s not consistent and always out of stock. Such a dilemma!
I wish you would show the yarn labels so we can recognize the yarn if we see it .
I really hope it's just internet gossip :(
I sure hope that’s just a rumor! I haven’t heard it yet. Thanks so much for watching, I have a new installment of this series coming soon!
I compared the bernat blanket n the twist blanket while it was on sale last wkend. Bernant was much nicer imo.
Your yarn wall with plushies on top looks amazing ❤ The main brand of plush yarn we get here in Australia is Porta Craft, not sure if you can get that or not.
Shoot, I can’t find it here! Is it a plush yarn? I’ll keep an eye out. Thanks for watching!
Hi ❤❤❤ I kept looking for new videos daily😅
You are the best!! I was looking for you in the comments tonight! Thanks for always being there ♥️
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns yw💜
Have you tried premier retro velvet?
Miss you and hoping you’re ok! Thinking of you❤
I have not done amigurumi critters yet, but with 2 grandbabies, it is inevitable!
Making amigurumi for little ones is so much fun! I just finished a lovey for new baby Mg cousin is expecting in January!
Mine said 8-12 days and I got both my packages in 2-3 days
Ugh! Why does it have to be so stiff? I really wanted to love it. Thanks for watching!
So many pretty colors!!
Wow. #12 seems like it was complete trash!
I don’t crochet. I’m mostly just here to admire your pretty yarn wall and to squee every time you show a tiny octo. 😛
Complete and total trash. Such a bummer, cause it had such potential!!
Have you tried the clover hooks
I have tried a couple! Have you? I love how they glide, but overall, they are a little short for my big hands 😬
I lucked into a Furls hook, and I’m obsessed with it!
@@YarnandWhimsyDesigns yes, I have all the clover, I started with Michael's brand and Susan Bates, I did not like them so I bought a clover and MY LIFE CHANGED!!! 🤣
Hello I just found your ch.🎉
Thanks so much for watching! So glad you found it 🥰
Have you used the Temu yarn? How many octos from each ball?
Good question! I’ve only used it a little bit for adding blush to some of my plushies. I’ll test it out on Octos!
Why do you downsize your hooks. I want to make med so amiguruni animals such as sea turtle, octopus, octo, whale, etc. which is the best yarn/hook? Thx.
I’m getting ready for a craft fair at end of summer. What is best seller?
Yarn!!!!!
Pins!!
What!!! A care bear!!!!!!!?!?!?!? 😮😮😮😮
Isn’t it awesome!!
🎉😊
Thanks for watching!!
Hobby Lobby (Yarn Bee) yarns fund conversion therapy and other anti-LGBT agendas. Thank you for your review otherwise. Very happy to know about how these yarns review, especially about Bernat Sparkle!
