Premier parfait chunky does shed and falls apart like the himalaya dolphin, sometimes you get a lot that is just so fragile, while other skeins are easier to work with and not fall apart. I would think that would be the same for himalaya as well. You must have had a good skein that didn't fall apart, but that is not always the case. The quality control varies a lot between skiens.
I agree. Premier parfait chunky is extremely weak. Not something I would use to make children toys. Maybe something that wouldn't be played with though would be fine
I used Premier chunky for the first time on a large amigurumi and it had all the cons and few of the pros. I thought maybe one of the others would be a better choice, so it’s a little discouraging that the best was the one I already wasn’t a fan of. If that’s the best, I think maybe using chenille yarn just isn’t for me. Or, as was stated, maybe it was a weak skein or a difficult color (dark red). Thanks for the review, Elise. Great info as always!
WOW! Thank you, Elise! How exciting that Premier Parfait Chunky came out #1 for your test! We sincerely appreciate your support for the Premier Yarn Brand. The Premier Parfait Chunky Yarn collection always sells out very quickly and we work with the Mill daily to keep it in stock. Our Mill in Turkey also works daily to continue to improve the quality. Due to the nature of Chenille Yarn, it will always be a challenge to make every skein perfect; however, that is always the goal for all Premier Yarn Collections. Your three little pigs are so precious!
I’ve been crocheting for years and over the past 3 years have started using chenille and blanket yarn to make plushies. I finally bought premier chenille yarns and OH MY GOD was I impressed! It felt so smooth and buttery to work with. A dream! I love this yarn and hope someday they’re stocked in stores in the US
Out of those three yarns, only the himalayah dolphin baby is easily available in my area, so i have some experience with it. The one tip that i have for creating amigurumi with it is to never use this yarn to sew the pieces together! It's always a nightmare. It's way better to use just some thinner, not fluffy yarn (preferably cotton or cotton blend, I recommend yarnart jeans) in a similar color to the piece you are sewing on. If you have enough tension when sewing, you won't see any of the seams anyway, and you will save yourself a lot of headache :) Also when i usse fluffy yarn, I always use 2ch beginning. I generally think, that MR is way better for amigurumi, but it's not worth the frustration that comes with using it with fluffy yarn, especially tha ones that shed easily. Hope this helps someone! :)
I wish I saw your comment before starting my first project with this yarn. I did lose an about a foot of yarn just trying to do the MR and then found the alternative 2 chain start and it was perfect after that. I did have to sew a smart piece and it was kind of frustrating to use for that so yes I will be using yarnart to see my amigurumi together because I can’t waste yarn and hard work ❤❤
Michael’s Loops and Threads Snuggle Lite is very hard to work with. It doesn’t just come apart when you’re frogging! I did a few pieces this last week and the yarn shed more than my five cats!
My first experience with crochet was with Chenille. I liked the softness but the shedding doesn't work well for a beginner like me who has to redo things a bunch. Also this is less relevant to the yarn but it makes me happy that you talked about making mistakes, most of the crochet people I watch occasionally don't mention it so it seems like they don't make mistakes at all. Anyway my point is that I'm glad that you mentioned that because I do have unrealistic expectations of my own work but recently I've learned it is okay and natural to make mistakes (in crochet and in general,) and it's part of the learning process. Thanks for the video :)
Yeah, I definitely wouldn't recommend using chenille as a beginner, it's tough to work with even if you have a lot of amigurumi experience! And let me tell you, I make mistakes all the time!! They used to frustrate me so much, but now I see them as the best teachers we could ever have. When we take the time to figure out why we are making mistakes it helps us for future projects. I guess that could apply to life in general too! ❤️❤️❤️
I am loving all the adorable little toys made with these types of yarn. Way back in the day I tried to work with chenille and it was too stressful because I couldn't see my stitches and frogging was a nightmare. I know textile manufacturing has improved over the years so I'd love to try again. My friend resisted jumping on the Cricket bandwagon for years but had the opportunity to buy one at a garage sale for literally pennies on the dollar (they had zero idea what they were selling) and she's never been the same since 😂. She absolutely loves that thing and uses it for so many crafts.
I really do love parfait chunky yarn, but the biggest downside for me is that a lot of the colors are always sold out! They're just too good lol that they are always sold out
I agree! I have had my cricket forever and never thought to cut the felt eye pieces. I have cried so many times, trying to cut them out with scissors and just gave up. 🤣 Honestly, I’ve also tried to cut felt before, and it just ends up in a huge mess. I’ve heard you’ve had to use bonded felt but I feel like a few years ago that that was really hard to find. Maybe it’s changed.
Funny you'd upload this today...yesterday I crocheted the waffle pillow by Little World of Whimsy, which was supposed to be done in Chenille Home jumbo (Michael's brand), but all the Michael's stores were out of the mustard color, so I finally settled on Yarn Bee Eternal Bliss from Hobby Lobby. BIG MISTAKE!! That super chunky yarn is NOT the same as a chenille/velvet, and it about killed my hands. (Crochet hook size was US S / 19mm, for reference.) Frogging was a nightmare because it's so thick -- which also makes working with it a nightmare, as it does not glide easily -- and the waffle stitch eats yarn like you wouldn't believe. It took 3 skeins to do a 14" x 14" pillow, and I literally only had about 10 inches of yarn left at the end. The butter pat was done with much more easy yarn: Sweet Snuggles by Loops & Threads, in yellow (because who really wants *white* butter?!). Not a lot of stitch definition and definitely shedding, shedding, shedding, and frogging was a delicate task. But it's literally buttery soft and the little butter pat is honestly the cutest part of the pillow. I'm looking forward to maybe crocheting a duckling with the rest of the yellow chenille. 🙂 So I'll have to see if I can find some of the Premier Parfait Chunky (I try to avoid ordering yarn online) at one of our local yarn shops. Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for sharing! I have never crocheted with a 19 mm crochet hook!!!!! 😱 I'll have to check out the Sweet Snuggles! And now I need to check out that pillow!!! 💛
I learned to crochet with such yarn with Alize Velluto yarn which is the only one so far that does not shed bc the small parts are basically stitched into the main thread and it's so robust and nice ☺️
Look at you go, Elise! I’m way overwhelmed by these machines, though I’m also intrigued, you know? Hmmm…. Thanks for sharing and the piggies are DARLING! I have no experience with chenille yarn, but I’ve been thinking about trying since it makes such cute stuffies. Great video as always! Thank you! Cheers! ☺️🫶🏻🧶 lisa
I love Bernat blanket polyester yarn for my crochet critters. It’s not the same texture but it is very soft and cuddly AND durable. If you are struggling with working with chenille yarn Bernat blanket yarn is a good option
Texture wise I LOVE chenille home slim from Michael’s. It glads so well across metal hooks. Only downside is that it sheds A LOT. Dauphin baby is comparable, but the gauge is a lot smaller. I put up with the shedding.
I'm making amigurumis for Christmas (thanks to you, I've gotten into making them and it's so much fun!) and right now, I'm using the Chenille Home Slim from Loops & Threads and it's doing the same thing as the himalayan. It sheds, if I frog I need to be super careful or the yarn destroys itself. But it's sooo soft
Fantastic timing! My MIL loves pigs, and I was planning to crochet her one. Now I know what pattern and yarn to use. Personally, I own Silhouette machines but Cricuts are very user friendly.
Very interesting! I've never used a chenille yarn but as you say they are so popular now and I'm seeing them everywhere. Thanks for another educational video, now l know what to expect with these yarns!
It puts a smile on my face every time I see a new video from your channel❤ happy crocheting ps:you can melt the tail with a lighter it will secure the yarn tail chenille yarn is synthetic just like acrylic yarn so it will melt
Thanks Elise for the heads up on Himalaya chenille. I love Premier yarns also but their parfait is always sold out and that’s the downside for me. Even when you showed all the colors, 90% were sold out.
I love parfait chunky because of the price and the wide array of color choices! But I do agree some skeins are very thin while others are thick and some shed more than others. On the other hand I have also tried Hobbi honey bunny yarn and I must say it is amazing!! It has a higher price point but for a very good reason. All of the skeins I have purchased from them are consistent in thickness and texture and is well worth the money!! It is easier to make a magic ring and doesn’t catch itself, is easy to undo and I would really recommend trying it!!
Thank you!!! I’ve wondered about the chenille yarns and how well they work up. You answered all of my questions. Also thank you for sharing about the Crikit-who knew it could be so versatile. I look forward to my Saturday time with you! ❤
Ok, I am not a Cricut fan for several reasons, but I appreciate their talented designers. I have an old Cricut that I bought cartridges for back in the day. I still use it. It still works fine. My biggest complaint is that Cricut has raised their prices and that some of the supplies ,like blades, are not available readily anymore. Rant now over!! The pigs are cute. I have a friend who just made an octopus from a big box store chenille yarn. It was very cute, but shed terribly and didn't frog well. The brand has a bee in the name, but I won't mention the chain store's name. Thanks for all you do, and good luck with your new Cricut.😊
Thank you so much for this review. I have just gotten into crocheting pumpkins, animals etc & I wanted to know more about which chenille yarn is best. Truly appreciate your hard work putting your videos together, you really are an editing/content wizard in the crochet world of you tube.
@@EliseRoseCrochet I may start with a smaller version and see where it goes. I love the effect of felt eyes on chunky yarn, plus you don’t have to worry about safety eyes singing in the toy or coming out easily
I use a variety of different chenille/velvet yarn but my most common are Premier Just Chenille yarn (from Dollar Tree), Bernat Baby Blanket, Mainstays chenille and Chunky yarn and Bernat Velvet.
I don't understand why people are so concerned about the final size of the toy they're making from a pattern. I personally like that those little pigs are slightly different in size - it makes them unique and gives them their own personalities. I see how it matters when you're making clothing, but with toys?
OMG Elise! I am so glad you covered this yarn. I bought the Premier when the shipping was too much for the Himalaya for something I wanted to try. It was my first project with a chenille. I did a cute turquoise octopus and I was HOOKED so to speak! I absolutely loved working with it, and I would recommend that yarn to anyone! Great video! Thank you so much! And aren't piggies just the cutest??!
I’m impressed you did the cricut w/out any problems woohoo for you 😊. My first cricut was great (many yrs ago) then when they came out with cricut explorer I purchased that one and did great once again. By this time I had to sweet grandchildren who love to come and make all sizes of dinosaurs. Ok then they upgraded again and I purchased that one. Well it’s in the box in my storage unit 😢. I just couldn’t understand how to use it and I thought about selling it many times. This one was the last machine that was able to use the cartridges. I have very many !!! I thought about the “maker” but I might be too dumb to get it. I’ll be moving again next July and taking everything out of the storage unit so I will give it another try !!! I’m so proud of you Elise because you sound like a pro already ❤❤ Now back to the video. I’m not crazy about the chenille I really like the look of the thinner yarn but I did get 1 or 2 skeins from dollar tree. Of course I have so many projects I wish I had more hands 😂. 💜💜gayle
Elise, I wish you could see how many hundreds of videos I've watched for making felt eyes on my cricut. For some reason when you explained it FINALLY clicked, 💡, thank you so much... I'll be making some today.
I don't have a very easy time finding chunky chenille yarn in Australia but I have found Porta Craft Blanket Chenille which I like a lot but it looks kind of dishevelled if you frog it, and when sewing pieces together you sometimes get some fallout. The results are worth all that though, it's super soft and cuddly and makes for adorable soft toys
I’ve never tried chenille yarn. I liked that you evaluated three different ones. I love softness but I don’t like shedding so it probably isn’t one I’d prefer. As I watched I was cutting the last of some extra quilting batting for stuffing and I thought “I wonder if Elise has ever evaluated different stuffing materials. That would make for a good video I think. By the way I go used to your new channel name quicker that I thought I would 😊.
Thank you for this video! I live in Australia, and finding chenille yarn is difficult due to a monopoly with a large chain craft store that doesn’t stock a lot of options. It’s hard to know what yarns are good to use, as we don’t get the opportunity to test them first! Also, I have a Cricut Joy and was wondering if it would work for felt eyes, so your sponsorship section was useful too! 😊
We have to buy online and most stores are out of stock or pre-order. So, then, we have to turn to overseas stores. IceYarns Chenille Baby from Turkey is very similar to these but we have to order in packs of 4 and many colours are out of stock, too, and have been for months. 😢
Thanks for this review. It hit all of the points that you want to know about. I will say that one major downside of the Premier Parfait Chunky is that they are almost always sold out of most colors and when they restock, they go quickly. I have put in a request form to both of my local craft stores that I found on Premiers website to have them carry it in store. We shall see how that goes.
I believe Premier yarn and Dolphin baby yarn are produced at the same company Fistas in Turkey. It looks like it's the same yarn, at least colors look identical. Probably Dolphin baby is produced for Europe and Turkey itself, and Premier for North America. Correct me if I am wrong. I also noticed that shedding depends on color and even the batch. I had light pink Dolphin baby that was very fragile and I could not work with it, and my newest one is great and works very easily, same color.
I'm not sure, but I don't believe it's the same company, but I could be wrong. I believe there are a lot of yarn manufacturing facilities in Turkey. Thanks for sharing about the shedding! 🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet It's the same company Fistas in Turkey. This info is on Premier yarn official page. If you go to the official page of Fista's company, you will find that Himalaya yarn is also produced by them! One yarn mill makes the same yarn for different yarn companies. Most yarns are made by the same mills but sold under different brand names.
I used to make little owls, which I would stuff with cut up sponge, so I can put a few drops of essential oils to stuff into your linen drawers or under your pillow. For making the eyes, I find taking a straw and stamping the end in ink and then on the felt, gives you a good outline to follow while cutting. The only thing is, they only come in very limited sizes, like slushie straws, regular straws, or even stir straws, but you can always cut down a little or up a little to make it fit. Also, instead of gluing, I would stitch an ‘x’ in the middle to anchor it down. I don’t know how glue would react to essential oils, so I try to keep things as natural as I can, and it worked out great for me. I hope this helps. By the way, I love the pigs! Great video.
Recently worked with Big Twist Posh from Joanne's. Pros: -soft -has good stitch definition -frogs well -low shed (unless sewing) -large skein (233yd) Cons: -fell apart when sewing (down to the base thread) -very limited color selection (about 15). Conclusion: I'd use it again but use a different yarn to sew the pieces together.
Thank you so much for the chenille yarn review. I have been wanting to try chenille amigurumi but was not sure about chenille yarn. You are so lucky that you live so close to Premier Yarns. I live in the northeast and cannot find most of their yarns in stores here even though I have heard many good things about the yarns. I know it's possible to order the yarns online, but I'm one of those very tactile people who likes to feel before buying. I look forward to your videos every week.
I really love sweet snuggles lite & chenille home slim from Michaels. It's just as soft as the parfait chunky but even thicker! Then it's parfait chunky for me! Premier has so many pretty colors. 💖
I always love your videos! I’m an avid amigurumi maker and chenille yarn has been my favorite at least in the past two years. I agree with all your points on each of these yarns completely! If I could throw in another, I buy a lot of Michael’s sweet snuggles lite. Sometimes I can find my usual colors in store, but they’re usually pretty picked through! I often order through the app. The downside to Michael’s yarn is shedding on the end pretty bad. I work slowly when weaving in ends or pulling closed a magic ring. Frogging is easier than dolphin baby for sure. It’s also super soft and I adore the colors. They could have more and I hope they eventually do, but it is a good selection!
Great video. The pigs are just the cutest. I love yarn comparisons because they really help choose yarns for fills on a budget. Also, I've been curious about Cricut for a couple of years now and would love to see more ways you use yours.
@@EliseRoseCrochetIt depends on the felt you buy! The only felt sheets available to me would not cut in the cricut at all even with the max pressure. It would just tear instead. I ended up ruining the cricut mat that way, which was embarassing because it was a public use cricut from the library maker space! Scissors would just chew the felt up and an exacto knife + cutting mat did the same. Once I bonded it with wax paper it worked fine in the cricut, but boy was it a journey to get that knowledge. You must have bought pre-bonded felt since it worked right away for you. (Jealous 😂 bonding lots of felt takes foreverrrr) I love using the cricut for felt eyes because you can measure your amigurumi and then adjust the shapes as a single group in cricut design space to keep proportions the same.
For all those watching you from Germany wondering which yarn would work well and is easy to get: I love the Gründl Funny Uni! I picked it up to test and love it! It’s 4,99€
Thanks for the tip Himalaya is just the only one here with many colours (i still like to use it. ) Ricogurumi has some now (die idee marke) but for the big ones it's kind of only pastel colours right now
Chenille yarn is very soft and yes it might be pretty to make Amigurumi but I can not crochet with it I really tried and I TOTALLY HATE IT WITH A PASSION. I was gifted so many of them I recently sold most of them. I have been thinking about getting the Circuit machine for a while but was scared to use it. I am not tech-savvy at all but watching you explain a little bit made me rethink maybe I could learn how it works, Thank you for the video. Have a great day!
I understand the frustrations with chenille! It is so soft and squishy, but can be challenging! There are so many great Cricut tutorials online too! Much easier to use than I thought it would be! 🧶🧶🧶
Hi Elise….Love your little piggies….they are so so adorable!! Currently I am using Premier Chunky chenille yarn to make some Candy Corns….my 1st time using it too. I lOVE the buttery softness of it….however I have had a few issues with it shedding off the cord. I’ve also learned if I frog one stitch at a time slowly it does help. It doesn’t shed much like you showed the Himalayan yarn does tho. I do love all the color choices with Premier Chunky! I most definitely will use this yarn again. I love how you showed us how to use the cricket machine to make the eyes…..that is awesome!! I gave my sister one of these machines 5 years ago for her birthday and she still has NOT ever used it. 🤦🏻♀️😢 I think I’m going to get it from her & start using it myself. 😂 Have a fabulous & blessed weekend! 😊🧶🦋💜
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Parfait Chunky! And you go get that Cricut for yourself! There are so many amazing things you can do with it! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet if you try it a few things to know: it is a size 6 yarn like the Parfait Chunky but it is definitely a little bigger. Also Michael’s has Sweet Snuggles Lite and they have Chenille Home Slim. They are basically the same yarn only different color stories. The SSL are the brighter colors. I use them together. Gives more color options and they are exactly the same size.
I'm done with this specific type of yarn. I LOVE Parfait Chunky, and it feels so good in my hands, but I had the same issues that you described with the Dolphin Baby. It's definitely nice and I would recommend it to someone looking for that specific yarn, but with the shedding and difficulty weaving ends (I do prepare the yarn per manufacturer instructions), I just can't deal with it. I'm moving to Bernat Blanket and won't look back once I'm out of Parfait Chunky (though I am going to eventually try the Parfait XL & the one from their Basix line that's similar to Bernat).
You made the Cricut look so easy to use, I have been on the fence about even looking at these at the store, they seemed to complicated for me. I am going to go to the craft store later today and am going to take a closer look. The eyes turned out great, would appreciate more ideas on things to do with the Cricut
I totally understand the concern! I felt the same way before I got mine! There are soooo many amazing tutorials on RUclips as well. I the design center app is super easy to use too! 🧶🧶🧶
Okay, so some world changing tip I’ve found is burning the ends of the chenille yarn with a lighter! I have an electric lighter with 2 prongs. Just hold the end inbetween and burn them and boom no fraying!! You can use a regular lighter with flame too. Just takes a split second to burn. Starts a flame? Just blow it out like a candle. I always reroll all my yarn into cakes and I make sure to burn both ends of the roll. I don’t even use scissors when crocheting with it, I just use my little lighter to cut it, automatically burns both ends! I highly recommend trying this burn trick! It’s a life saver and makes working with chenille so much easier!!
This was great. I hope you continue to review chenille and velvet type yarns, as I like to make both (that type and worsted or DK weight). I find after “wrestling the bear” of using Bernat blanket that my hands are ready for a smaller yarn! Others to review would be the (Michaels store) Chenille Home Slim, Bernat Velvet, and Hobbii’s Honey Bunny.
I'm so early !! I'm new to the channel and OBSESSED with your videos ! They're so cozy but informative and addicting to watch :) So happy i found your channel
My favorite chunky chenille yarn is some yarn I used to make bunnies for my kids 10 years ago. I have no idea what the brand is or where I even got it from 😭 but they have held up so well, even with my son's rough play and regular washing, they have held together well. Really wish I had kept better track of what I was making and with what back then.
I will have to try this. I have had such trouble with seeing the stitches using chenille yarn. I’ll try again 😊. Thanks for the encouragement to try it again 👍🏼☺️🧶
Isn't the cricut just the best thing ever? I love mine! The Cricut Joy can also cut felt eyes, and doesn't cost as much as the maker 3, so if someone is looking for a good machine that is a bit more budget friendly, the Joy is the way to go. I am loving chenille yarns! I've been using the Yarn Bee from Hobby Lobby and it's really good. Premier, as well. I haven't use any others, but I love those two brands. :) The best part of that they're so easy to work with! Super easy on the hands, too.
I just started and purchased 3 rolls of Parfait to make a cute amigurumi bee and was wondering if I made the right decision, then I found your video. Thank you!!!
As someone that's been working a lot with Jumbo Yarn (Parfait XL, Loops and Threads Sweet Snuggles, etc...) I can confirm that bulkier yarn tends to be very hit or miss on shedding. Playing it a little looser on the stitches helps a bit with visibility and frogging. It's best to try a new pattern in something that doesn't shed much before moving into the chunkier yarns to avoid frogging as best you can, but if you have to take it one stitch at a time like you suggested, and use two hands. Pull the lead thread with one hand and hold down the 'loop' it's going through with the other to minimize friction. For tapestry needles you'll want to get a jumbo tapestry needle with a bigger eye to minimize shedding... Though I do still find that weaving in the ends and sewing can still create a lot of shedding on some skeins, there's not a lot that can be done about that. Ultimately when working with those yarns for Amigurumi I lay down some tarp and stuff to catch the dust and wear like an apron or something as if I were painting haha. I like to crochet at my booth sometimes at craft fairs, but I've sense learned not to do that with the bulkier yarns and stick to #5 or below.
No plans to purchase Cricut stuff myself, but it was good to see that Cricut could be used for things other than scrapbooking/papercrafting. I believe I've seen that Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn on the Hobium website; I hadn't realized it was also available elsewhere.
I almost didn't watch this video because I'm in South Africa & we don't have access to the same yarns. 🙈(I get quite envious when I see the variety of yarns available in other countries 😁) But clicked on it anyways because I love your videos & FOMO. 😂 When you mentioned Cricut my ears perked up very quickly as my sister has a cricut machine. She's nuts about it & is a brand ambassador here for them in our region. So the little eyes you made is such a nice alternative to safetly eyes. Great idea! 🎉
Awwww!! I'm glad you ended up enjoying the video! And I'm very glad to know that Cricut is available there! I'm so excited about all the things I can use it for with crochet! 🧶🧶🧶
I have my first amigurumi project coming up, I'm making a teddy bear for a co-worker's birthday next month. It's not a small bear, either, it's one of those you can take to bed with you. Two challenges arise: I have no idea which chenille yarn to use (the pattern calls for it), and I've never done amigurumi before. Thanks to you, the first challenge is no longer a challenge, and as for the second, well, that probably won't stay a challenge as I get into it. I know you have a few videos I can watch while waiting for the yarn to arrive, and I'll do just that.
Thank you so much Elise for sharing your experience with chenille yarns and these cute piggies! I will definitely try the Premiere Parfait Chunky yarn soon! I have used their Basix Chenille yarn (it's a different texture with the parfait), it's really soft and I had a great time making amigurumi toys with Premier yarn. Always a fan of your videos!!! ❤❤❤
Great video! Those pigs are so cute! A lot of my projects lately have been using the chenille yarn. Unfortunately it’s hard to get Premier Chunky in Canada. So I use a lot of Loops and Threads Sweet Snuggles Lite, it’s a bit bigger than Premier. And similar in price with the exchange. Have a great weekend!
I have a very old Cricut for paper only and you have to put the themed cartridges in. I love the look of the Cricut 3. Don’t know if I’d use it enough but it might end up on a birthday list 😂
i mean i havent tried the 2 other ones but dolphin baby is the best one ive tried, it frogs so well, doesnt shed at all and has so many colors, its also really soft
@@EliseRoseCrochet (omg you replied aaa) i think it depends maybe on the lot number, i did get one skein that was very rough and it seemed like it was spun too much
Up in Canada our most available chenille is bernat blanket...it's approximately the same as premier I have used it frequently for blankets etc and have knitted toys with it or the pipsqueck live the finished product
Did you somehow know that I’m experimenting with chenille yarn? Lol. I’m trying the Bernal blanket baby. So far so good. Def a learning curve from my usual worsted projects. Thanks for your great videos, I’ve learned so much. ❤🧁
Thank you for this comparison! I usually use Bernat velvet, but it is not chunky lol Premier is my go to for so many yarns even their velvet, but I have not seen them in my local Joann stores lately and Bernat I can pick up even at Walmart lol If I am just buying for stock then I order from Premier and wait the 2 weeks or so that it takes to get to me. But If something comes into my mind to make and I have to buy yarn to do it, I hunt locally for it. I shop Hobby Lobby sometimes if I can hit a sales week but the yarn is usually too over priced . I am in the process of moving and so far behind videos that I am trying to catch up today. lol Hope you are having a great weekend.💗💗
I usually use the baby bee chenille yarn! I get it at my local Hobby Lobby and it's only $5. It has a bit of a small selection of colors but it's worth it for the price and quality.
Thank you for this video. It's a greal one. I know it took time to do the research. And the crocheting to test the yarns. Very helpful. I'm doing amagarumi and now feel good about choosing a fluffy yarn. TFS! Austin TX USA
I usually like the Bernat blanket/Baby Blanket yarn for my amigurumi plush toys. It’s so soft and the plushies are on the bigger side sometimes which I like personally.
What size does it come in? I've been looking everywhere for a 10mm+ to make extra large plushies and so far only found one brand and they have a very small color selection :(
@@someoriginalname5660 well the one I use calls for a 8mm hook 6weight but I know Bernat has some 7 weight that calls for a 25mm hook but I haven’t used it yet. The color selection looks quite nice though, that’s why I like Bernat.
I'm using the Juicy Couture yarn for an ami project and I am in LOVE it is sooooooo soft and I don't have a bunch of fluffs everywhere and the end of the yarn doesn't shed!! Stitches go in smooth and also frogs perfectly! I'm so sad because its only at Joann's in the states and they don't ship to Canada :(
Premier is definately one of my ALL TIME FAVES. ill pick premier before red heart, caron..., i also am a huge fan of lion brand yarns. I live them all usually
My favorite chenille is Big Twist Posh. It works up well and doesn't frog. Unfortunately it doesn't come in a lot of colors. It is 233 yards. I do like the parfait chunky because of all the pretty colors and it is a little thinner than the Posh. I don't like that the parfait frogs really bad! I'm still looking for good chenille yarn, some thin (size 1) to thicker (size 7). Thanks for the video though❣️ HAPPY CROCHETING ❣️❣️
Love this review. I make tons of amigurumi but I have never used any chenille except the premier chenille tgat I get at Dollar Tree. I love it for 1.25 per 65 yards and I love it. Doesn't rip out easily, limited colors but it is available to me.
@@EliseRoseCrochet based on your reviews I would say it is closer to a 5 weight, not quite as chunky, it does have quite a lot of linting. I noticed that it is easy to break when pulling from a magic circle but very strong otherwise. All ends seem to like to have chenille flaking or slipping off so it helps to put just a dab of glue on end of yarn to stop fraying when project completed. They also feel even more plush, sturdier, and stop losing lint pieces after 1st washing. JFYI.
Use freezer paper to cut on felt. Just iron it on draw your patter and cut. Easily peels off when you are done. I learned about this while making small little finger puppets. It was so much easier!
I love the walk-through of Cricut stuff. I may have to budget to buy this, because OMG, cutting out eyes is a PITA!! It's exactly why I usually just cut out the white part and then paint the iris color. (I don't normally worry about pupils or eye shines.) Also, as far as glue, I'll either use my glue gun for putting the eyes on, or if I don't feel like plugging it in, I'll use Original Tacky Glue. That stuff is amazing for holding felt to yarn, and it dries fairly quickly. (I don't know the span because after I glue it, I don't touch it for a day.) But I haven't had any problems with the pieces I've glued this way. They stay on once they're bonded.
That's so good to know about the glue!! I am pretty obsessed with the Cricut at the moment! There are so many amazing things you can do with it for crochet!!! 🐷🐷🐷
Your videos are so inspiring to me. I just started crocheting yesterday. But I really want to make amigurumi. In the future. Keep up the quality content
Super video again! ❤️ I can watch your videos 24/7 and never get bored. I personally love to work with Himalaya doplhin baby, but I also use Yarnart dolce for my amigurmi toys ☺️
Thanks for this video! We just got a cricut so it is nice to know I can use it for crochet too! I have also been wondering about Premier chenile yarn, after seeing this I think I'm going to take the plunge and finally buy some!!
Thanks, Elise. I am getting ready to try chenille yarn for my amigurumi so this was very helpful. I also had never heard of Green Frog Crochet and that little piggy is so cute I am heading over there right now!
Oh my gosh. This video came out too late for me! I just ordered almost a dozen of the baby himalaya yarn for making a pumpkin patch order! :) And since it is being shipped from Turkey, I have been waiting a looong time!
I do use Premier Parfait Chunky , but it does depend on what lot you get . Some are fine and some are very fragile , and fall apart . My favorite to work with is Bernat baby blanket and the Walmart brand is good to work with , it just don't have that many colors . Thank you for sharing Elise ❤
I love Parfait Chunky but I tried out Estako Velvet and have been hooked on it! I use both interchangeably just because Parfait has some colors Estako doesn't but something about Estako has me hooked and I can't completely recommit fully to Parfait.
That's very good to know! That you so much for sharing your experience! 💓
I agree. Premier parfait chunky is extremely weak. Not something I would use to make children toys. Maybe something that wouldn't be played with though would be fine
This is the reason why I dislike working with chenille yarn , I often make mistakes with amigurumi so this yarn is not for me
I totally agree with this. Certain colors I’ve used will shed a TON and some aren’t so bad.
I wish Parfait Chunky wasnt sold out all the time! T_T
I’ve been crocheting for years and over the past 3 years have started using chenille and blanket yarn to make plushies. I finally bought premier chenille yarns and OH MY GOD was I impressed! It felt so smooth and buttery to work with. A dream! I love this yarn and hope someday they’re stocked in stores in the US
Thank you for sharing that information! So helpful!! 🧶🧶🧶
@@cantfiteveryheart when you are making “plushies”, on average, how much do you buy for each toy? 100g, 200g?
I wish I could buy your Premier yarn but im not paying $64 shipping for a few skeins of yarn
If you have enough tension when sewing, you won't see any of the seams anyway, and you will save yourself a lot of headache :)
Also when i usse fluffy yarn, I always use 2ch beginning. I generally think, that MR is way better for amigurumi, but it's not worth the frustration that comes with using it with fluffy yarn, especially tha ones that shed easily.
Hope this helps someone! :)
Thank you soooo much for sharing your tip!!!! Very helpful!! 🧶🧶
What is MR yarn?
@@faithfielder9493 MR is an abbreviation for magic ring :)
I only use this yarn and it works for me and I really love to work with it ❤☺️
I wish I saw your comment before starting my first project with this yarn.
This yarn is the bane of my existence. Never again. It's ruined chenille for me. Worsted, cotton, and dk only for me.
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Omg same! Won't get it ever again!
Oh my gosh, I just tried working with this yarn today and it was driving me NUTS. closing a magic loop and it tore apart.
Yes! Chenille yarns are so much better now!! And I'm amazed at all that the Cricut can do! Your friend was soooo lucky!! 🧶🧶🧶
I really do love parfait chunky yarn, but the biggest downside for me is that a lot of the colors are always sold out! They're just too good lol that they are always sold out
That definitely is a problem! I bought mine on Amazon! 🧶🧶🧶
100% agree. Did everyone see how many were unavailable when she showed the colors? That happens to me all the time. Bummer, cuz I do like it.
Got mine at Herschners online. Plenty stock
What a fantastic idea to use the Cricut for cutting perfect felt pieces! I'm going to try this! Thanks for always giving such great ideas :)
You are so welcome! 🧶🧶🧶
I agree! I have had my cricket forever and never thought to cut the felt eye pieces. I have cried so many times, trying to cut them out with scissors and just gave up. 🤣
Honestly, I’ve also tried to cut felt before, and it just ends up in a huge mess. I’ve heard you’ve had to use bonded felt but I feel like a few years ago that that was really hard to find. Maybe it’s changed.
I need a cricut now! I never thought about how much cutting I do while crocheting, so glad I stumbled across this video!
I have a similar problem with the chunky yarns. They just kill my hands.
With super chunky yarns I like to simply use my fingers instead of a hook. Much easier on the hands and feels more organic somehow.
I learned to crochet with such yarn with Alize Velluto yarn which is the only one so far that does not shed bc the small parts are basically stitched into the main thread and it's so robust and nice ☺️
Oh that's so good to know! Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
That yarn is more like Bernat blanket yarn, though. The chenille is much softer and kind of velvety.
Thank you! Cheers! ☺️🫶🏻🧶 lisa
Thank you so much, Lisa!! I was afraid the Cricut would be too complicated as well, but it's quite easy to use! 🐷🐷🐷
I love Bernat blanket polyester yarn for my crochet critters. It’s not the same texture but it is very soft and cuddly AND durable. If you are struggling with working with chenille yarn Bernat blanket yarn is a good option
Thank you so much for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Texture wise I LOVE chenille home slim from Michael’s. It glads so well across metal hooks. Only downside is that it sheds A LOT. Dauphin baby is comparable, but the gauge is a lot smaller. I put up with the shedding.
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks for sharing!!! 🧶🧶🧶
Fantastic timing! My MIL loves pigs, and I was planning to crochet her one. Now I know what pattern and yarn to use. Personally, I own Silhouette machines but Cricuts are very user friendly.
Yay! So glad it was good timing! I was so surprised how easy the Cricut is to use! 🐷🐷🐷
Very interesting! I've never used a chenille yarn but as you say they are so popular now and I'm seeing them everywhere. Thanks for another educational video, now l know what to expect with these yarns!
You’re so welcome! 🐷🐷🐷
It puts a smile on my face every time I see a new video from your channel❤ happy crocheting ps:you can melt the tail with a lighter it will secure the yarn tail chenille yarn is synthetic just like acrylic yarn so it will melt
Awww! Thank you! 🐷🐷🐷
Same girl same!❤🧁
Thank you! I’ve considered trying a chenille yarn, but couldn’t figure out which to use. Love that you used a Cricut for cutting felt - brilliant!
Glad it was helpful! The Cricut is amazing!!!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks Elise for the heads up on Himalaya chenille. I love Premier yarns also but their parfait is always sold out and that’s the downside for me. Even when you showed all the colors, 90% were sold out.
Yes, they were. It's too bad people have such a hard time getting the colors they want! 🧶🧶🧶
Every time I see you’ve posted a new video, I get so excited. You just make my day! Have a happy Saturday, Elise❤️
Thank you so much! 🐷🐷🐷
Thanks for sharing!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you!!! I’ve wondered about the chenille yarns and how well they work up. You answered all of my questions. Also thank you for sharing about the Crikit-who knew it could be so versatile. I look forward to my Saturday time with you! ❤
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video! The Cricut is amazing! I can't wait to explore what it can do more! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you! This helped me! I've seen these yarns before and was thinking of buying them. Now I know what yarn that's good or bad!
Glad it was helpful! 🧶🧶🧶
Thank you so much for sharing, Jim! 🐷🐷🐷
Thank you so much for this review. I have just gotten into crocheting pumpkins, animals etc & I wanted to know more about which chenille yarn is best. Truly appreciate your hard work putting your videos together, you really are an editing/content wizard in the crochet world of you tube.
Awww! Thank you!! I spend a lot of time editing my videos!! I appreciate your kind words! 🧶🧶🧶
Tempted real time to buy a cricut now! I checked online for felt eyes but the price is through the roof when you consider 20$ mailing fee!
Oh wow! I had no idea how expensive buying felt eyes was! I love my Cricut, there's so much you can do with it! But it's definitely an investment. ❤️
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
I don't understand why people are so concerned about the final size of the toy they're making from a pattern. I personally like that those little pigs are slightly different in size - it makes them unique and gives them their own personalities. I see how it matters when you're making clothing, but with toys?
I like how they are different sizes too! I love experimenting and see what the different outcomes would be! 🐷
Thank you!!! The Parfait Chunky really is a great yarn!! And I am obsessed with these little pigs!!! 🐷🐷🐷
💜💜gayle
I was surprised how easy it was to use! 🧶🧶🧶
I love paintbox, I think they will make more colours if it is popular x
I love Paintbox too! I hope they will make more colors! 💓
Elise, I wish you could see how many hundreds of videos I've watched for making felt eyes on my cricut. For some reason when you explained it FINALLY clicked, 💡, thank you so much... I'll be making some today.
I'm so glad it helped! 👀
Thanks so much for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
The little pigs are adorable! Thanks for sharing this and hope you have a great rest of your weekend! 😘❤🧶❤
Thank you so much! 🐷🐷🐷
Thanks for sharing! I've talked about stuffing a little, but that would make an interesting video! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks for sharing your experience in Australia! 🐨 Someone else mentioned that a Cricut Joy can cut felt! 🧶🧶🧶
Yep. I am in Australia as well. We have a very poor selection, due to the very large store, that only stocks cheap garbage.
That's good to know! I actually bought it on Amazon! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks so much for sharing! What a great idea! 🦉
@@EliseRoseCrochet Thank you. I forgot to add, I’ve used a hole puncher as well, and although it does work well, you only get one size.
Recently worked with Big Twist Posh from Joanne's.
Pros:
-soft
-has good stitch definition
-frogs well
-low shed (unless sewing)
-large skein (233yd)
Cons:
-fell apart when sewing (down to the base thread)
-very limited color selection (about 15).
You're so welcome! Even though they are very close to me, I buy all their yarns online! It definitely can be hard to choose yarns online! 🧶🧶
I really love sweet snuggles lite & chenille home slim from Michaels. It's just as soft as the parfait chunky but even thicker! Then it's parfait chunky for me! Premier has so many pretty colors. 💖
Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Michaels sweet snuggles lite for me too 😊
Yes! Sweet Snuggles is my favorite!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience! I'll have to try the Sweet Snuggles Lite! 💓
@@EliseRoseCrochet yes!! I think you’ll like it 😊
Great video. The pigs are just the cutest. I love yarn comparisons because they really help choose yarns for fills on a budget. Also, I've been curious about Cricut for a couple of years now and would love to see more ways you use yours.
Thank you! 🐷🐷🐷
Thank you, I want to try to make amigurumi after the holidays. This video really helps.
I'm so glad! 🐷🐷🐷
For those considering using cricut for cutting felt, you might need to bond the felt first via wax paper + heatpress/iron
I was able to just use just the felt and the mat. Worked perfectly. But I did have to use glue to secure the eyes! 👀
(Jealous 😂 bonding lots of felt takes foreverrrr)
I love using the cricut for felt eyes because you can measure your amigurumi and then adjust the shapes as a single group in cricut design space to keep proportions the same.
For all those watching you from Germany wondering which yarn would work well and is easy to get: I love the Gründl Funny Uni! I picked it up to test and love it! It’s 4,99€

Danke für den Tipp 🙏🏻
Thanks for the tip
Himalaya is just the only one here with many colours (i still like to use it. )
Ricogurumi has some now (die idee marke) but for the big ones it's kind of only pastel colours right now
Chenille yarn is very soft and yes it might be pretty to make Amigurumi but I can not crochet with it I really tried and I TOTALLY HATE IT WITH A PASSION.
Such cute little piggies, thank you for your review 💕
You're so welcome! 🐷🐷🐷
I think I’m going to get it from her & start using it myself. 😂
Have a fabulous & blessed weekend! 😊🧶🦋💜
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Parfait Chunky! And you go get that Cricut for yourself! There are so many amazing things you can do with it! 🧶🧶🧶
My favorite yarn to work with is Sweet Snuggles Lite from Michael’s. Only downside is there aren’t as many colors, but it is a dream to work with.
I use Parfait Chunky as well and I love it too. Something about the Sweet Snuggles Lite though, I just prefer using it.
Thank you so much for sharing! I'll have to check it out!
Thanks so much for sharing! 🐷🐷🐷
My favorite Chenille yarn is Estako velvet it doesn't shed as much, and there are beautiful colors. I also crochet a lot of amigurimi pieces.
That's so good to know! Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶
I know how you feel! I ended up returning the yarn and just used Bernat baby yarn instead. It’s better for arigurimi! Your piggy is so cute!
Thanks for the tip!
Interesting! Thanks for sharing! 🔥
Thank you so much sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
I'm so early !! I'm new to the channel and OBSESSED with your videos ! They're so cozy but informative and addicting to watch :) So happy i found your channel
Awww! Thank you sooooo much! 🫶🏻
Sounds like it was an awesome yarn!! 🧶🧶🧶
I will have to try this. I have had such trouble with seeing the stitches using chenille yarn. I’ll try again 😊. Thanks for the encouragement to try it again 👍🏼☺️🧶
I can't imagine that being able to see the stitches would ever be easy with a chenille yarn. But I did find the Parfait Chunky easier to see! 🧶🧶🧶
I ordered some pink on Amazon, will look forward to using it 👍🏼😎
Isn't the cricut just the best thing ever? I love mine! The Cricut Joy can also cut felt eyes, and doesn't cost as much as the maker 3, so if someone is looking for a good machine that is a bit more budget friendly, the Joy is the way to go. I am loving chenille yarns! I've been using the Yarn Bee from Hobby Lobby and it's really good. Premier, as well. I haven't use any others, but I love those two brands. :) The best part of that they're so easy to work with! Super easy on the hands, too.
Thanks so much for sharing, Rhonda! Good to know about the Cricut Joy and the yarn!! 🧶🧶🧶
I just started and purchased 3 rolls of Parfait to make a cute amigurumi bee and was wondering if I made the right decision, then I found your video. Thank you!!!
Glad it helped! 🧶🧶🧶
Omg you made all those dolls! You are an inspiration and I love your channel. I’m binging you!
Thank you so much! ❤️
WOW! The cricut sponsorship was more evident than the information I clicked in for!
No plans to purchase Cricut stuff myself, but it was good to see that Cricut could be used for things other than scrapbooking/papercrafting.
I believe I've seen that Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn on the Hobium website; I hadn't realized it was also available elsewhere.
You need to try Bernat Blanket yarn. Hardly sheds at ALL!
Thanks for sharing!! I'll have to try that! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet i know, the possibilities are endless. So much to do & so little time😂
Great review. I love premier yarns. I got a mystery box from them and it was great. I didn’t know that te cricket would cut felt. Thanks for sharing.
That's wonderful! 🧶🧶🧶 I've been amazed at what the Cricut can do! 🐷🐷🐷
I have a cricut and never even thought about doing eyes! Genius!!!! Totally gonna try it.🙌🏻
It's such a versatile machine! 🐷
Good luck! Sounds like an adorable project! 🧸🧸🧸
Thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed it! I adore your patterns!! 🐷🐷🐷
Others have shared that they like that yarn! I'm glad you found a yarn you like and that it's not too expensive in Canada!! ❤
Those little pigs are just so dang cute!!!! 😍😍😍😍😍
Thank you!! I think so too! 🐷🐷🐷
I have a very old Cricut for paper only and you have to put the themed cartridges in. I love the look of the Cricut 3. Don’t know if I’d use it enough but it might end up on a birthday list 😂
Thanks for sharing!! There are soooo many things you can make with it!! 🧶🧶🧶
i mean i havent tried the 2 other ones but dolphin baby is the best one ive tried, it frogs so well, doesnt shed at all and has so many colors, its also really soft
I'm so glad you had a good experience! It was my least favorite, although the color is gorgeous!! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
Did you somehow know that I’m experimenting with chenille yarn? Lol. I’m trying the Bernal blanket baby. So far so good. Def a learning curve from my usual worsted projects. Thanks for your great videos, I’ve learned so much. ❤🧁
I feel the same way! There's such a big learning curve when going from traditional yarn to chenille! 🐷🐷🐷
I LOVE BERNAT blanket yarn
Bernet is thicker then parfait chunky
Thank you for sharing! It can be so hard to get the yarns you love at a good price! 🧶🧶🧶
Glad it was helpful! 🐷🐷🐷
I usually like the Bernat blanket/Baby Blanket yarn for my amigurumi plush toys. It’s so soft and the plushies are on the bigger side sometimes which I like personally.
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
@@MacDaddyTRL thanks!
Premier is one of my faves too! 🧶🧶🧶
My favourite chunky yarn is himalaya dolphin baby but it does shed a bit however once you find the right techniques it's really easy to use
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
For the eyes you can also use different sizes round paper punches. Much cheeper.
Thanks for sharing!! 👀
Love this review. I make tons of amigurumi but I have never used any chenille except the premier chenille tgat I get at Dollar Tree. I love it for 1.25 per 65 yards and I love it. Doesn't rip out easily, limited colors but it is available to me.
Thanks for sharing!! I haven't tried that one yet! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks so much for sharing! ✂️
I love the walk-through of Cricut stuff. I may have to budget to buy this, because OMG, cutting out eyes is a PITA!! It's exactly why I usually just cut out the white part and then paint the iris color. (I don't normally worry about pupils or eye shines.)
Also, as far as glue, I'll either use my glue gun for putting the eyes on, or if I don't feel like plugging it in, I'll use Original Tacky Glue.
Thank you! That's amazing!!!! You'll be making amigurumi before you know it! 🧶🧶🧶
@@EliseRoseCrochet aw thank you 😊
New to toy making. Great yarn review ♥️🧶
Thank you! 😊
My toddler loved the pigs :) I just bought a ton of chenille yarn for the first time and wish I had seen this yesterday 😂😅
Awww! So cute!! There are a lot of great chenille yarns out there! I hope you love what you got! 💓
Super video again! ❤️ I can watch your videos 24/7 and never get bored. I personally love to work with Himalaya doplhin baby, but I also use Yarnart dolce for my amigurmi toys ☺️
Thanks for sharing!! And thank you for your kind words! 🐷🐷🐷
Thanks for this video! We just got a cricut so it is nice to know I can use it for crochet too! I have also been wondering about Premier chenile yarn, after seeing this I think I'm going to take the plunge and finally buy some!!
Yes!! It's amazing what the Cricut can do!! And the Parfait Chunky is amazing!! 🧶🧶
Thanks, Elise. I am getting ready to try chenille yarn for my amigurumi so this was very helpful. I also had never heard of Green Frog Crochet and that little piggy is so cute I am heading over there right now!
Oh you are going to love her patterns!!!!!! They are amazing!! 🐸🐸🐸
Oh my gosh. This video came out too late for me! I just ordered almost a dozen of the baby himalaya yarn for making a pumpkin patch order! :) And since it is being shipped from Turkey, I have been waiting a looong time!
It's not a bad yarn!! Just know to be careful if you need to rip out any stitches. The colors really are gorgeous and it's sooooo soft! 🧶🧶🧶
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
I go to school and I have an Art teacher who knows how to crochet and knit and I told her about you and she was happy
Thank you so much! ❤️
I love Parfait Chunky but I tried out Estako Velvet and have been hooked on it! I use both interchangeably just because Parfait has some colors Estako doesn't but something about Estako has me hooked and I can't completely recommit fully to Parfait.
Thanks for sharing! 🧶🧶🧶
