See, as long as you don't use someone's free pattern, post it as your own pattern, and make people buy it, then you are free to sell whatever! If this didn't make sense I mean selling someone else's pattern as your own and making money off of their free pattern. I've got texture sensitivities and velvet yarn is a no-go, which has made the recent trend super hard on me because the plushies all look SO cute! Next time I go to a craft store, I'll have to see if I can find any chenille yarn to try. Fingers crossed it's a better texture for me, because I really want to make your giant turtle!
I have had a few customers in the past with texture sensitivities and chenille yarn was their preferred yarn! deff recommend michaels or premier yarns ❤️
I love this, this is so helpful! I've always had a hard time knowing what size of hook with what yarn to use and if I should size up or size down. When I first started plushies I made a turtle too:) I'd love to see you do a giraffe tut video. I've been looking for days since it's my favorite animal and never seem to find a pattern I like!! Hi Genna! I've recently discovered your videos and am a happy new subscriber. You've inspired me to give amigurumi a try for myself! One thing I'm curious about, I've seen people mentioning pattern owners "allowing" people to sell the finished product, and I was a bit surprised as I thought if you'd bought a pattern you'd be allowed to do whatever you like with the end result. Do you know anything about that?
Hello! :) Aww Im so happy to hear you’re starting your crochet journey! Yes, usually pattern designers will specify in their pattern if you’d be allowed to sell the finished product. Honestly Ive never ran into a pattern that didn’t allow you to sell the finished product. I think more pattern designers are concerned with people copying their pattern or re-selling their pattern without their permission. ❤️
Hi, I get your point if view, but try to look at it this way: for example when an author writes a story the publisher is the one to print it, bind it and bringing it to the store. Now the author either gets one time money for the story or gets like 5% or something for every sold book. Theoretically you are the publisher and the pattern designer the auhtor. So they can (and most do) allow you to just sell the product but they wouldn't need to. Do you know what I mean?😅
I am unclear about the sunflower turtle pattern; do you sell such a pattern? Do you use your turtle pattern and add the petals from the free Rose and Lilly pattern. I adore it and would like to make a couple for my grandchildren. Thank you!
I have been crocheting amigurumi for a few years now,,, I have always used acrylic. I have been pondering switching to the plush yarn,, but here in canada it is so hard to find and so expensive!!! We don't have a Joanne's or Hobby Lobby so I have been having a hard time sourcing it. Michaels never has stock nor the colours i want :(
Awww!! Ugh yeah, Michaels is the worst with keeping plush yarn in stock. Honestly I find myself using more acrylic yarn nowadays for plushies (minis/keychains) and they are still super cute! Maybe try Hobbii yarns? They usually have a great selection of plush yarn in stock! ❤️
Thank so much I literally looking for what yarns to buy for plushies and just happened to come across your channel congrats you just your self a new sub
Have you worked any with the Bernat Velvet Plus? I picked up several skeins and am looking for more right now on the big clearance going on at Joann’s right now but I haven’t used any yet. I am a big fan of the Chenille (it’s generally pronounced Sha-Neal. Not Chanel like the fashion brand btw lol but you’re far from alone in your pronunciation on that one!) Home though I especially like the Chenille Home Slim or Sweet Snuggles Lite which I gather is basically the same as the regular Parfait Chunky. I bought some of the regular Chenille Home though because ugh yes to stock issues. I couldn’t get white or black in the Chenille Home Slim anywhere within 50 miles of me in store recently and it was also sold out online. Then I’m kicking myself because I kept almost buying yellow but kept seeing it around so said no, no it’s there. Now when I keep needing the dang yellow it’s been out of stock everywhere and online. Drives me insane! But I found the colors I needed in the larger size so said eh, let’s try that. 😂 Meanwhile I’m not a big fan of blanket yarn but similarly, was able to get some good clearance deals on Bernat Blanket. I’m cracking up because I started making a panda with Bernat Blanket and a 7mm hook and I’m getting the size of your turtle out of it and that was not my intention at all! 🤣 The pattern photo used worsted weight and the panda fit in the person’s hand and was maybe 6 inches. Mine is enoooormous. I can’t imagine if I were using a 9mm or like Bernat Blanket Plus. That bear would be literally human size. I was surprised to hear you’re using a 9mm for those big turtles but different yarns for sure!
Ahaha thank you for letting me know about chenille lol I'm notorious for mispronouncing! 😂 Also, yes, I tried Bernat Velvet Plus once and it was sooo hard to work with!! Dealing with all the yarn color shortages/limited stock is so frustrating honestly. I'm glad you at least found the larger size yellow!! 💕 Yes, totally agree about Bernat blanket. I'm also not too big of a fan -- I find there's too much friction when crocheting. I heard they are redoing the line and the newer skeins are much easier to work with so deff worth a shot to try it! And hahaha yes, I've been there before where I totally used the wrong hook size and the plushie was MASSIVE. Lol I was surprised 9mm hook worked well with the turtles too, you truly never know with crochet 😂
Thank you for sharing all of this with us! What size hook do you use with the Baby Bernat Velvet? I've used that yarn for one project and can't remember what I used back then. Thanks!
I have been crocheting for around 2 years but never got into amigurumi until literally last week. Can you go over the crochet "rules" as in can you sell plushies from patterns you bought from others, do you have to give credit, things like these.
Love this video!! Curious what are your preferred eye sizes and types are. Sometimes I’m very indecisive with that. Btw, I just made a plushie with a Michael’s Chemille Home Slim, so it’s a bulky 6, but not as big as the regular chenille. However, it also does not come in a lot of colors and I actually did not find it pleasant to work with.
Aww thank you!! 💕 I usually almost always use 12mm eyes :) for my minis I use 6mm and for my jumbos I use 24/30mm! And very interesting about the chenille home slim -- I used it before too and agree it didn't come in enough colors
How do you hold your yarn for tension purposes with crochet using thicker material like bernat velvet and thicker yarn? I am having tension issue with crocheting and i think it has to do with hiw im holding the yarn..what do you suggest? And or any video tips and tricks fir it?
Hi! It definitely is a bit harder with thicker yarn, I sometimes like to wrap the working yarn around my fingers a few time to keep the tension tight :)
Hello. Thanks for your video. I thought your octopus would have been in the most used pattern, but then I remembered that your sells are higher for them on markets. It's a shame, because your octopus is so cute !
None of those yarns are available in my country but I can recommend Alize brand’s Velluto yarn. I think sizewise it’s closer to the XL chunky but has pretty minimal shedding and nice colours.
I too use the Bernat Velvet and Premier Parfait Chunky. And your right the yarn fuzzies with the parfait chunky is not fun, yarn all over🤣 Hi Callie, what a sweetie! Awesome videos of Italy. Hope you feel better soon.
I looked for a video like this for ages! Thank you so much for sharing what yarns and patternes you used!!! I have a question, I started using sweet snuggles yarn and every time I use it it sheds near the slip stich and then everything unravels, what do you do so it doesn't happen?
Awww of course! I'm so glad you liked it! 💕 I personally haven't had this happen to me that much, usually I'm forced to just redo the piece when that happens. Someone commented earlier that if you take a lighter and put some heat on the end of the yarn, it will seal it and prevent that. Hopefully that works/helps!
Himalaya Dolphin Baby Chenille yarn has OEKO-TEX Class 1 certification, that means it’s been tested free of harmful chemicals etc safe for baby.. So when making baby things like lovey’s, rattles, small holdable plushies for children under 3 a yarn with that certification is the safest. The color selection is pretty great as well. Bernat baby yarn has that certification as well, that is usually the case with baby yarns as well as them being more petite. Great video!!
Thank you!! I didn't yet because I'll be seeing her in a few weeks so I'm going to give them to her then! I think I'll crochet her a new bouquet though since the flowers I made in the video are a bit messy! 💕

majority of my plushies are bought by and for adults :) I always make sure to let people know these plushies are not safe for kids under 3. I also hot glue some of the eyes if I know children will be having the plushie!
great video! it always saddens me to see all these amazing yarns that you can get over in the NA, we have literally none of these available in Europe. 😭
I crochet some. Have knitted since 7yo but REALLY want to make a crochet animal! I want to start making for kids Christmas gifts. Med size. Love your videos and this one really helpful. Love the cow, turtle and Dino. Which pattern best for me to start with?
Hi! I love your videos :) but I have just one question because I'm concerned about something: what is the difference between the turtle patterns you sell (not the strawberry ones) and the one from Rose and Lily's video ? I know nothing about the law, but is there a percentage difference to be had with the original to be authorized to sell your own without it being considered a copy?
@@crochetbygenna I'm sorry I don't understand... Even if you imagine a pattern, if it's pretty much the same as another one (and one you previously used), I believe it's copy :/
A tip for the parfait shedding, whenever you cut the yarn take a lighter near both ends and the fibers will melt into each other and seals the ends from coming off.
See, as long as you don't use someone's free pattern, post it as your own pattern, and make people buy it, then you are free to sell whatever! Someone commented earlier that if you take a lighter and put some heat on the end of the yarn, it will seal it and prevent that. Hopefully that works/helps!
Great video thank you for sharing all your great tips. Enjoyed seeing the short video of your trip. Have a wonderful week and happy knitting 😊🧵🪡🤗🤩
Awww I'm so glad, thank you soo much!! Happy knitting 💕
You make my day❤
hehe aw thank you! ❤️
Thank you so much for this info! ❤️
Am I allowed to sell the creations made from you or anyone else’s patterns? And if so do we have to acknowledge the pattern creator?
You can sell all of my patterns as finished products
Thanks for sharing. Yea 20k. Did you ever give your mom those flowers you made ?
Thank you!! I didn't yet because I'll be seeing her in a few weeks so I'm going to give them to her then! I think I'll crochet her a new bouquet though since the flowers I made in the video are a bit messy! 💕
I found brunet velvet in Michael’s
I just recently in the past week started using Premier Parfait Chunky and I'm not sure if it or my Husky sheds more honesty lol but I love it too much!
Hahahahah oh my gosh💀😂 the shedding, like with pets, is worth putting up with😂❤️
It’s pronounced (sha-Neal)
U should crochet a little couch or hammock for your cat and put it next to the window so your cat can have little view 🐈🐈🐈
oh my gosh yesss!! I recently bought her one of those hammocks that you can stick to a window but a crochet version would be so much cooler ❤️
Thank you for the video!
Can you please do a tutorial for magic circle with velvet yarn. Is there a easy or am I finding it so hard to do it?
Yes!! I will add this to the list ❤️
So cute... all of them. I want your style fat little hen and a giraffe ...❤❤❤ love your stuff. Glad to see you back safe and sound from your travels. Love the way you take your time to crochet for us. Busy business lady.😊
Aww thank you soo much!! Of course! 💕
Do you ever do step by step instructions for your turtles
Will you make a video of how you start your MR and row 1-2? Pretty pls.
Yes! literally on my list for future vids -- will be showing how I do my MR 💕
Love the video! And can confirm that the sunflower turtle is a very popular plushie! Did so well at a charity auction and now I’m working on the human sized version for the next charity event! Thank you for sharing them with us it’s done so much good raising money for Orphans in Togo xxxx
Aww hello!! I'm so glad they did so well! I made a human size one for a customer and loved how it turned out :) happy crocheting!
I’ve watched every single one of your videos in the last few days. I am working on a crochet couch for my cats and I love your voice in the background while I’m crocheting too. Your turtles are my fav 🩷
Aww hi :) I'm so glad you enjoy watching while crocheting :) thank you soo much! ❤️
To help with parfait yarn shedding a ton, I actually just take a lighter and slightly burn all the ends. It helps so much!
thank you so much!! I've heard of this tip before and i need to try it ❤️
Why do u use safety eyes when they are not safe for infants under 3
Her Etsy clearly states that they're not designed for children
majority of my plushies are bought by and for adults :) I always make sure to let people know these plushies are not safe for kids under 3. I also hot glue some of the eyes if I know children will be having the plushie!
i wish my country has velvet yarn as cheap like in US, maybe one day I can get my hands on them!
I hope so!
I love your videos!!! I would love to start selling my plushies but idk if its possible to do it part time.
Aww thanks so much! And totally doable, you got this❤️
great video! it always saddens me to see all these amazing yarns that you can get over in the NA, we have literally none of these available in Europe. 😭
Awww noo :'( I'm sorry!! I hope there's a good substitute for these in Europe! 💕
I love to create my own patterns!
Saw the com post! Been waiting for the post ever since it was posted! Hope you had a lovely time and I'll definitely try them out ❤🎉
Awww thank you so much!! I'm glad you enjoyed 💕
this video made me so happy! thanks! welcome back and omg your trip looked amazing!!
Aww thank you soo much!! Too sweet 💕
I crochet some. Have knitted since 7yo but REALLY want to make a crochet animal! I want to start making for kids Christmas gifts. Med size.
Love your videos and this one really helpful. Love the cow, turtle and Dino. Which pattern best for me to start with?
Awww thank you so so much ❤️❤️ happy crocheting!!
Which pattern would you recommend I try first as beginner to making crochet animals? Love the cow but maybe not best first project?
Herrschners also carries Bernat Crushed Velvet and Premier Chunky Yarn.
ahh this is amazing! Im so jealous you have premier chunky in person 💕
Hey, I just recently made a bee and he turned out so cute!
What app do you use to display all your patterns in a list like that?
Aww I'm so glad!! The bees are adorable 💕 and I use "Notability" to display all my patterns like that :)
Hi! I love your videos :)
but I have just one question because I'm concerned about something: what is the difference between the turtle patterns you sell (not the strawberry ones) and the one from Rose and Lily's video ?
I know nothing about the law, but is there a percentage difference to be had with the original to be authorized to sell your own without it being considered a copy?
I came up with the pattern based on my own design! ♥️ as long you come up with the pattern yourself and do not copy a pattern verbatim!
@@crochetbygenna I'm sorry I don't understand... Even if you imagine a pattern, if it's pretty much the same as another one (and one you previously used), I believe it's copy :/
❤😂i love plushies
hehe same! ❤️
Hello. What yarn did you use for chubby Dino. Thanks
I used Bernat Velvet with a 5mm hook 💕
I was literally just looking for this im a total beginner but ive got the basics so im gonna try out some of these, thanks sm
Aww omg of course! I'm so glad! 💕
Thanks so much for this, its so helpful!
You're so welcome! I'm so glad it was helpful 💕
Yes is so true! I love velvet!!feel better ❤also thank you so much for the video!! 😊
Hehe of course!! Thank you for watching 💕
A tip for the parfait shedding, whenever you cut the yarn take a lighter near both ends and the fibers will melt into each other and seals the ends from coming off.
Amazing!! Yes! I've seen that on insta, thanks for sharing -- will deff give it a shot 💕
