Congratulations Kelly you survived the storm. In the 58 years I have lived here in Florida I have been through 8 major hurricanes it is a blessing when you come through one every time. Take care
That was well documented. Thanks for posting it. Like you, we were spared the horrific damage and my heart is broken for those folks in the direct path.
FYI -Wawa is a convenient store chain, originating in the Philadelphia area. They have 100's of stores now. It is also frequented by the rudest people on earth, who leave their vehicles at the pump after filling up, regardless if there are other people waiting to fill up during busy times. They are also unable to differentiate between the regular trash cans, and the ones designated for recycling. You will find all types of trash in both bins.
My sister was on at the Ft Myers Hospital during the storm. Power outages, water was out, fire in the building, flooded ER but they kept it together and kept the patients safe. Glad you made it through with limited damage.
My family was in Port Charlotte . We have never been so scared . I kept thinking the next gust was going to take our roof. We definitely had damage but we can love in our home with a temporary tarp so we feel very blessed . I am sorry for all the people who lost everything
Glad you're home survived. That was a beast of a storm from the pictures I've seen. Sweet cot the hospital provided.. Last time I had to stay over night here at the one I work for I slept in the floor with just the pillow I brought from home so hat's off to your employer.
Glad you made it through safe. I've been in Florida for many hurricanes. Thank you for documenting and letting the world know how serious these storms are. Irma and Ian are the 2 that were serious for me even up in the Tampa Bay area. Ian & Irma were originally forecasted to make landfall in this area, but changed thank GOD. Been here for 30+ years and they seem to be getting worse over the years.
I thought of you down there . I'm north of Daytona so we didn't get much up here. Our anniversary was the 28th and we just stayed hunkered down at home. The beach is for visiting, I would not live out there I've seen too much devastation. We bought a camper in Sebring. Take care glad your ok.
We rode out Hurricane Irma at our home in Central Florida. We lost some of our roof and didn't have power for almost 2 weeks. Ian hit Fort Myers really hard. We had massive flooding from Ian. I'm glad your RV was safe. God is good, indeed.
That is a very nice cot. If you get one, get one similar but that has the posts for a mosquito net over it. That kind of cot will allow you to have two storage bins under it which is very convenient. If you use it outside with the net set up, you can throw a tarp over it too. You should not have gone outside flying debris causes nasty injuries. Hurricanes are scary, aren't they? Glad that you're okay. When you and James settle down to a house be sure that it can handle hurricane winds(which also helps it to withstand blizzards). Thanks for posting this good video. Good Luck, Rick
So glad you had some great luck.....staying in the hospital really saved you some real worry....riding out the storm in your rental would have really been dangerous......your video captured the intensity and danger of the situation......God Bless.
I'm glad you made it through ok, obviously some were not so lucky. Everything fell just outside your trailers perimeter, even your patio furniture stayed put. God was watching out for you for sure. Thanks for posting this.
Used to ride the hurricanes out at sea. Had a 42 foot Morgan sloop. A friend ( retired special forces) would head to sea because there was less chance of damage to the sloop than leaving it docked in the slip. We took turns roping our selves to the helm in case the boat would roll. Came close but never completely rolled. We had a 17 foot keelthat would turn us back up right if we rolled. We would take off from Marathon Florida. Yee Ha ! Thank you for sharing this. So glad your safe.
I thought about you when this hurricane was first said to be headed to central Florida. So glad you are safe and your trailer is safe as well. Thank you for the awesome footage of the hurricane. My kids think you rock! 🙂
Welcome to Florida Kelly Hays! Glad you & your RV are okay! It’s fun living at the beach until a hurricane comes to town! I live in Hilton Head, SC. It was coming straight for us & then made a turn north toward Charleston & Myrtle Beach. We got lucky too! A cot is an upgrade for you! Your bed looked very comfy! Glad you survived your first hurricane!
WOW!! Thank you for sharing your hurricane experience! It's been a while since I've been in a hurricane (like, a couple as an adult in Hawaii -- but last century). And it was cool and frightening (yes, both!) to hear that wind near the hospital doors! I don't recall how powerful the hurricanes I went through were, but I definitely would not want to be in this one! And I'm glad your house was safe!
Glad you survived with no damage. ❤ it’s fascinating how nice the weather is for several days after a hurricane. I have ridden out hurricanes in Orlando, Daytona, Houston and New Orleans. I love them❤
Great coverage of the storm, the sound of the howling wind was terrifying. We live in St. Petersburg, had a similar experience to yours. Irma had more sustained winds and rain for us. Seeing the damage and hearing the stories in the Fort Myers area is heartbreaking. Can't imagine loosing your home, transportation, and job all at the same time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone. Donations to Red Cross or Samaritan's Purse will help these communities recover...there is a long road ahead for them.
You were brave filming the 'cane. That wind noise was kind of scary. So glad you made it through with no problems to your little house. Up here in north Florida we had little problems. I never lost power. Praying for the people that were affected. Take care and be safe. Thanks for the video.
Glad you and your home made it safe! I was on a cruise that was extended by 2 days, we had excellent weather, but the last day we rocked so bad they had to close the pool! Giant swells were crashing into the front of the ship, I found it very exciting but almost impossible to walk in a straight line! Everyone was walking crooked in unison! 😂 My thoughts and prayers are on those that lost so much.
Glad you made it through unscathed. Ian was no joke. A lot of good folks in FL weren't so lucky. p.s. It was pretty cool to get a glimpse of the hospital life and hear you ratlling off your hospital talk.
Having been born and raised in Florida I've been through many Hurricanes and after the summer of 2004 and the three hurricanes I come to absolutely hate these storms.
I have been catching up on all the videos from hurricane Ian and I commend you for being so calm during your first hurricane. I would of been a nervous wreck, lol! You did great on the footage and thank you for letting us know what we were seeing at the time. It's hard to see such a gorgeous state taken apart by Mother nature. I have never been to Florida but what I see in videos & pictures it breaks my heart seeing all the devastation. Thank you for sharing your experience!
Kelly, I was at the hospital too during the hurricane....I work for the same organization as you do, in the Tampa location, main hub. Glad your camper survived. Now you can say you've seen alligators and been through a cat 4 hurricane. I watched your journey of the AT last year, as I was preparing for a section hike in Virginia. I used your videos to help plan. 😀 And I've watched all of your videos since. Keep up the good work!!
A higher-power appears to watching out for your well being, alongside your determination to keep pressing forward through what life tosses into your path. Inspiring! 🙏
Glad to see you came through your first hurricane good. Thanks for sharing, it brought back memories for me. I lived in Mississippi and spent 18 hours at the hospital working during a hurricane too. My department was at the end of a hall on the first floor. Instead of a cot added to the office, I had my Harley parked in it. Nobody said anything to me. My house had minimal flooding but otherwise I came out good also.
I've been wondering how you weathered Ian. Glad to see you well. So much for going to check out Sanibel, it knocked out the bridge. That bridge was being newly built when "Charlie" hit back in '05. Charlie took out almost all of the Australian Pines on the Island....I hear this one did much worse.... And SWEET BABY JESUS get away from those windows!!! I've seen a palm frond jammed thru the side of a car after Charlie 😱
Wow! 😮 that’s pretty scary! The sound of that wind was crazy. From what I’ve seen Sanibell and Ft Meyers were hammered but you made out OK. You did a great job preparing. Gotta respect Mother Nature 😅
So glad you're okay and your belongings and God Bless everyone in the path of the storm. Great documenting the stages of the storm too. We went through hurricane Sandy and it so scary what Mother Nature can do.
What hospital were you at? The winds howling were scary! It was suppose to hit us but turned. We missed the bullet. Thanks for the videography of the storm & glad you & your place are okay.
Glad you made through the storm ok!! We have flooding and power outages over in Volusia County as well. It was best you stayed at the hospital versus the camper. Much safer there! God definitely watched over you!! My heart aches for Ft. Myers, it's such a beautiful place.
Yep… it was not fun to live through. Today I got power back to my house and the electric panel caught fire 😭 I’m a recently retired local firefighter medic .. this is my first hurricane in 20 years I haven’t had to work .. felt really weird not helping everyone
My 82-year-old mom lives on Sanibel. Well...did...I feel helpless to do anything to help her since she is in Ft Myers and basically looking for a place to live. And I am in PA so there's nothing I can do to help.
@@kellyhays23 thank you! Power is back on but she has no water. So no showers for a week. Kinda like the AT. Lol. They have no fresh food yet I guess so living on junk food. Kinda like hiking. Lol but not fun for a frail old lady...
Kelly, I am glad you weathered the storm with no damage to your home. You are very lucky. We have many firsts in our lives, you can check the box on hurricanes now. I dont remember if you summitted Mt. Washington on a high wind day or not, but they have hurricane force winds on the regular. I have family down in your area and they had some damage, but not like some. As always, you, and all of Florida will be in our prayers.
It truly was a blessing your place was covered by God. Sending prayers to everyone in the path. I know it’s going to be a long road and I pray everyone leans on God in these times of need. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
There are a ton of lineman from my area of northeast Texas down there working right now. Prayers for Florida.
Tell those linemen thank you from Englewood Florida!

That was well documented. Thanks for posting it. Like you, we were spared the horrific damage and my heart is broken for those folks in the direct path.
Your reporting was more real than any of the tv stations. Glad your ok. It broke my heart to see all the folks that lost everything. Florida strong !

Gives me memories of living through Hurricane Ike when I lived in Houston... totally crazy!!
Glad to see you are still safe an that your home still stands. Happy to see James again. Hope he made it to safety.
Yeah, I have 3 sisters in Cape Coral with no power or water .. they are living in a hotel in Ft. Lauderdale since
