Note to hikers from an AT Trail medic. Telling your buddies to go on without you can be a fatal mistake. Praise be for the wisdom and compassion of your friends. Ovarian torsion is something only surgery can fix. Just know we will hike in to you and chopper you out if you get sick or hurt. We can get your coordinates from your phone if in service. Keep it charged. Keep a flashlight with a beacon. Much love, take good care. The mountains are your Mother. ❤

What a small world we live in…..I work in Admin at the hospital where you had the surgery and so glad you had a great experience there; and in my little town of Blairsville!! Your courage and strength not only to thru hike but to make it those 5 miles is incredible! Two years later, I hope you’re still doing great!

You are easily one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen, inside and out. I am so glad things turned out the way they did. The Lord was watching out for you that day indeed. Like others have said, you never ever leave someone in pain or injured like that alone. And it’s quite common for the injured or sick to not want to slow the group up and encourage others to go on without them, or leave them alone.

Crazy. It happened to me too. Mine was a softball sized dermoid cyst on my right ovary. I also needed surgery to have it removed. It destroyed my entire ovary and Fallopian tube. The crazy part is the doctor said I have had it for years and years and it continue to grow without my knowledge. It’s insane to think that you I was walking around with that inside me without any clue. Thank God I still have one remaining ovary so I don’t go rocketing into early menopause. So at the end of the day I’m grateful for that. I’m glad you’re well and you made it. Thank God for all those people looking after you somebody was watching over you that day!!!

Wow, I had no idea you had been through this. Looking at the pain on your face I remembered my ordeal with a similar ordeal I had when I went to the hospital with intense abdominal pain. I spent all day in the hospital into the night before the pain started to subside. The Lord took care of me throughout this whole thing as he took care of you. I’m so glad you got through this. I am still dealing with problems related to my ordeal. Thanks for letting us know what you went through. God bless you!

From the first video I watched, long before you got on trail, you struck me as someone special. My thought was always, “this hiker will be a joy to follow”. It is said that the trail changes you forever. In 6 days you discovered mutual love and respect in and with your trail family, courage in the face of danger, a deeper understanding of your faith and a lot of followers who care for you so very much!
We are blessed to be with you and your journey will change us in ways we do not yet know. I look forward to seeing you back on trail with your tramily. It will be fun to hear what they decide for your trail name! Peace.

You definitely made this 56 year old man tear up a bit. All I could think of is my daughter who is probably about your age and how I would drop everything, like your dad did, to be with you. I loved hearing about your faith in the Lord and how He gave you the strength to walk those 5 miles to the road. Thanks so much for sharing your story with your RUclips family. I've been following you since you announced your AT hike. God bless you and may He keep you safe.

Hey Kelly... Ever since my last comment I've been struggling to think of something else to say that might encourage and help you after that heart-wrenching ordeal you endured. Then it hit me as I reread the comments here.
In those comments there is something phenomenal. It's the amount of love expressed to you. It's more than just pious platitudes or cheerleader-like "get well soon" exhortations. It's the heart-felt love, support and appreciation of your expression of faith, that fairly oozes out from nearly every comment. After many years of hiking and after watching countless hiking vlogs, I have never observed any hiker who has become so quickly beloved as you--- none. To thru-hike the AT is an incredible feat. But to win the admiration, love and respect of an audience because of your motivation, genuineness and character is perhaps an even a greater accomplishment.
So, the next time your spirit sags and you get one of those down-in-the-dumps, "slough of despond" moments, stop....grab a Snickers, kick back and reread those comments again. Then remind yourself that there's a mighty big audience out there that truly cares for you.... an audience who respects you..... an audience whose heart you have won. Many vloggers have captured a large audience. Only a few have won its heart... and you've done both.
And when you're feeling a bit low, remember that the Maker of Heaven and Earth can use the trail as a great teacher. Sometimes it shows us that the burdens of the present can transform into the blessings of the future. Sometimes it teaches us that nothing very bad nor very good lasts very long. Sometimes it teaches us that brokenness precedes blessings.
There are good days ahead for you. Stay the course. Get back on trail after you've healed, and when you do, there will be an eager audience here to cheer you on.

Wow girl I have no idea how you managed to walk outa camp to that road and not pass out, I had exactly the same thing happen 20yrs ago so I fully understand just how much pain you were in. You were lucky they had the sense to scan you so fast, they didn't with me, I was 3 days in hospital with them convinced I had gal bladder issues, they scanned me on day 4 after I passed out, by that time not only had the Overy ruptured but so had the cyst. 1hr later I was in surgery & what should have been a semi routine removal became a 9hr fight to keep me alive. I developed sepsis which thankfully they were ontop of right away. 20yrs on im making plans to fly out from Scotland in 2022 and do the Appalachian Trail myself, its my 1 and only life goal/bucket list item. Not without its challenges though, the antibiotic cocktail I needed to fight sepsis has left me with a pretty high degree of photosensitivity, I've learned to live with it and do my best not to let it stop me getting out there and hiking.
You get to resting and let your body fully recover then go out and see your goal through, we only get 1 chance at these things.

I was shocked and saddened to hear of this terrible event that happened to you. My son did the AT in 2016, which drew me to at trail videos. I watched your beginning randomly, but quickly decided to follow you this year all of the way to the end. My criteria is simple....people who have the heart and drive to finish, because most don’t. You clearly are the real deal and I and thousands of others will watch you complete your dream. I shed a few tears hearing the story you told because my son was sick on the trail for several days also, though not as severe as you. But the good news is...he got better and in September of 2016 he climbed Katahtin. The hike changed his life and who he is. Sorry for the long note, just thought this might help a little bit😎🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀Much luck!

This is a testimony of Our Most LOVING heavenly Father showing He is always there for us.
This is not about finishing what you started on the A.T. but it is a love story of our Lord and Savior and this is your time to share how good He is...I believe is your destiny to walk into. Singing and praising the Lord as you get back on the trail will bring forth blessings on the trail that will saturate it with His glory.
Just in this story I can feel the glory of the Lord and how He will be known even in places people think He is not because they don't know Him yet.

I’ve just started following KHH so this vid is new to me… I’m so impressed by your narration & editing skills that make your vids so watchable. This one is totally compelling! That cyst was epically awful. You’re indeed blessed, to have that happen reasonably close to the trail, with trail fam to help. I got a taste of that kind of pain recently when a deontic ulcer laid me out in the ER. Agony. Working my way through these great videos… keep adventuring, please!

I want to echo what the Mountain Medic said in one of the posts. When you are as young as you are, you never think that you could have anything serious (I speak from experience). Please everyone, when there is something wrong with you that makes no sense, get help asap. Use your InReach if you have one, or call 911. They can get you in touch with someone who will give you advice as to whether to hike out, or if necessary they'll send a chopper to come get you. There is absolutely no shame in that--that's what the emergency teams are there for! The fact you hiked out on your own is amazing and my hat's off to you!

Now you have a great campfire story when someone is bitching about hiking in the rain or the pain from a blister. Best part of the story was your friends effort to get you to a hospital. They are real life heroes, and the navy Vet to carry your pack along with hers must have been brutal. One thing about hiking, is the wonderful people you meet. Keep moving, drink plenty of water, and you will be back on trail...

  • @mb692100
    @mb692100 3 года назад +33

Hey Kelly... As a member of the so-called "dominant male species" I have no hesitation in saying that I cried all the way through this video. There were tears of sadness because of the pain and disappointment you faced... seeing that hand reaching out of the truck to wave "bye' to you at the B&B was heartbreaking as I thought about how crushed you must have felt, separated from the trail and your friends. But there were tears of joy too. Not just mine but more importantly.. God's.
Could the Great Spirit of Creation himself be anymore pleased than to hear one of His own praise Him when she is in intense pain and uncertain about survival? If there is a climax to your whole experience it is that very moment starting at 9:57 where you said: "I'm going to get through this. I'm still praising the Lord even through this hard time because He was the only reason that I made it out of camp...." I'm certain all the heavenly host turned to our Lord and said: "Look at Kelly down there. She barely survived and is in excruciating pain and yet she's still praising You." I wouldn't be surprised if the Lord's heart shouted for joy and He said: "Thank you Kelly. Now we both know how much you love me." Who knows: maybe Job chimed in to say. "Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him..." Job 13:15
Praying for a complete and fast recovery for you. Please remember that nothing "just happens." God causes some things to happen and He allows some things to happen but nothing "just happens" without first being filtered through His heart of love for our good and ultimately His praise. Your testimony of faith, your courage, strength and endurance are beyond exemplary, and you are an inspiration to all of us.
And.. thank you Grace, Stephanie, James, and also Paul and Bonnie at Your Home in the Woods B&B for all you did for Kelly. You have demonstrated why there is no finer group of people than the hiking community.

The only thing I can compare from my personal experience...when my appendix erupted...I was at college...it erupted during the night, knocked me out of my bed, I could not keep water down. Crawled back into bed...in the morning, still in pain then went to the doctors office on campus and he told me to go straight to the ER. I drove myself, a good ten miles...and as soon as I told them that it was my appendix, they took me straight to the back and then shortly into the OR. Glad you're alright and doing better.

God Bless You! My daughter had the same procedure, hers was a little bigger than a golf ball and only twisted once. She was sore and slow for a week or so and got right back into training horses. I am saying that because I know how strong and active both of you are and you will bounce back and get back on trail in no time! Thoughts and prayers for you and can't wait to see you back on the trail!! Get well soon!

Kelly the Lord carried you through this!!! We must all thank God because He is watching over us all!!!! I have enjoyed your trip so far and when you are SAFE to return I look forward to being with you for the remainder of your trip! Stay strong which I know you will and God bless you as you recover. And I would like to thank the wonderful trail family you built for being there with you through your trauma. I have experienced the bond which the trail builds and it is wonderful! I live vicariously through all of you and I can't thank you enough for enabling me to "hike the trail" through your videos.

Holy crap. Welp, cried watching this and then just about cried telling my wife about it later today. So sorry this happened to you. LOVE that you had a tramily to help you out. I really felt your love and appreciation for them in this vlog. 💓
The good news? God is good - all the time. Also, sooo many options for trail names already, especially since you resorted to surgery to go ultralight 😉: Blessed, 2 lbs, Shakedown, but how about Exor-cyst (play on exorcist - gets rid of cyst).
Anyway, heal quick and listen to your body. Thanks for sharing this with us. Hope all the positive comments and prayers are encouraging.

Hey Kelly, my English is not the very best, but I want to tell you that your vid made a tear in my eyes. I usually watch tons of yt vids about the AT and I follow a lot of thruhikers there, because an AT-thruhike-attempt is the biggest dream of my life. So I really watched tons of vids in the last years, but this vid is the first vid which made a tear in my eyes. I'm so glad to see that you survived, that you have the best tramily I can imagine, that you relax now in a wonderful hostel with wonderful owners and that you will continue your hike with your tramily when you are strong enough. I wish you all the best. Greetings from Germany ❤

Wow. This is just...wow. I will be praying for you and everyone on the AT. This is the first I've watched an AT vlogger gone through what you've gone through. It doesnt mean it won't happen to others so this is like an awakening on keeping all the hikers in prayers all the time. I'm very greatful for them as well for you. Im glad you pulled through. Just relax and heal up. The trail will always be there. My husband and I are off trail for awhile and will be going back in 2 weeks but as a flipflop. Injury related and with tendons involved its a very slow healing time. Looking forward to your updates Kelly. Much love.

Last week I decided in 5 years I'm retiring and going to through hike the AT at age 65. Six years ago I was 320 lbs and could hardly walk because I was so heavy. I started walking and then led to running. The running community saved my life. It sounds like the trail family is the same. I randomly found your posts on RUclips this morning and wanted to follow your journey. I'm so sorry this happened, but God has other plans right now for you. When you get back on the AT, you'll be healthy again and ready to go. I hope I am as fortunate as you have been that I'll meet other AT hikers as nice as you and your trail family. Praying for you until your next video on the trail.
