My friends in Daytona Beach had 3’ water through their house & everything ruined with foul water! Thankfully everyone I know & yourself have survived. We are hearing of tragic loss of life.

Thank you for sharing your families experience in Hurricane Ian. Whether on the clean side or the dirty side of the Hurricane and the right side is always the dirty side. That being said being in the eye of the Hurricane is nothing to sneeze at. It was a serious Hurricane that your kids can tell their kids and you can tell your grandkids in later years! It's amazing the power of a Hurricane now the second round of Ian is the flooding and many of the folks got caught in again. Sadly people in mobile homes got hit extremely hard as well as many one story houses. I think raising the A/C and Generators on to more concrete block may be a good thing to consider. Theres the chance that you will never deal with a Hurricane again and we hope not!!! But living in Florida is part of life when we were living in the Keys Hurricane Wilma was a major hurricane in 2005, wind and flooding but that is expected in the Keys due to the location of the Keys. We evacuated due to flooding and damage to cars was the norm. Again thank you for sharing your families experience during Hurricane Ian that will go down in the history books as the most catastrophic Hurricane in Florida history, for now!!! God Bless you and your family and all that were in the path that lost all their stuff. And sadly those that lost their life in the Hurricane!!!

Exactly. I haven't gotten one yet but i discussed this with a company that came out yrs ago to give us an estiate and he just looked at me like I was nuts.🤔
Since it’s already installed you could as a last resort use Quick Dam products to build up a temporary wall around it, maybe lay down a double wall then as a just in case put a small sump pump next to it with the cord running into a nearby cracked window to plug in/cut on as needed to pump out any water that might still build up from rain and leakage.
Your house is lovely and well built. Thank you for sharing your experience. I'm an hour or so inland. It was dark when Ian's eye went over the house. No storm surge or flooding but powerful and LOUD wind that shook the house. It was amazing the next morning to see a hummingbird feeding on the still blooming mimosa and flowers on the bent over trellis. Life goes on.
I understand your thinking of remaining behind in a evacuation zone. Just remember had something happened that you need to call 911 you would be "that guy". Glad you and your family are safe. 🙏
@@bobbygfl We live near the Yacht Club area of Cape Coral and had the very same experiences like yourselves as you so vividly show in your great video. In our case, the storm surge stopped just short of the level of the house floor, 5 inches to be exact. The garage was flooded with 1 inch of water though, no big deal. However, we lost a wooden fence and most of our surrounding bushes and trees, avocado and starfruit, plus one big old Royal Palm tree that came crashing down with the wind and missed our car by about 3 feet. Aggravating, but not critical of course, was the extended loss of electricity which spoilt a lot of good food in the fridge and separate freezer. Luckily, we were able to do some cooking by using an old propane camping stove. Can't do without your morning coffee! Our love and sympathy to all our fellow residents who were not as fortunate as us.

It's amazing how much our insurance wont cover for and all of our vehicles were totaled. We were both in cape we rode it out too in our house.
We did watch our neighbors sailboat come off its rigging and almost collide with our boat and go onto Lucerne though which was concerning. All 3 of our boats stayed I told my dad he should teach a class.

I live in Monterey, California. I just want to say THANK YOU for taking the time to very calmly and thoroughly do this video. This video is very helpful to us living near the ocean and to realize what could happen to us as well. Although, we don't have hurricanes, I am going to get sandbags just for peace of mind, elevate my generator and be more prepared. I live a block from the beach. Climate change is upon us and it is best to be prepared like you. Also, it seems you have experienced hurricanes before and are very prepared! We're experiencing 'climate change' in Iowa now; It was summer up until a couple weeks ago and now the climate is changing into Autumn. Soon, our climate will change once again...to Winter! How About That? Who Knew?!
No more, major hurricanes now than the past 100 years. Climate change? But very nice comments.. I like how you mentioned the lessons you caught from the video. That’s important. Floridians thank you…
Hey I live in Monterey and grew up in Louisiana and spent a lot of time in Florida. The only time I felt scared during a hurricane was Andrew in S. Florida, the wind was so strong I thought the roof would come off my apt building. I fortunately missed Katrina although had to go back for a couple funerals.
Thank you so much for this video - I also live in Cape Coral and our beloved city isn’t getting much media coverage ever though we were devastated by Hurricane Ian!!!
Good thing your house was built up to a higher elevation.. Every inch counts in a flooding situation, and saved you from suffering any major water damage..
You Did Very Well considering the Massive Damage Done by Ian. I live in the pacific NW inland had a wind storm that took out over 75 big pine trees on my Property. It took two chainsaws 5 hours to get my 70 foot long driveway clear. Now 2022 I still have a handful of trees to cut and slash piles to break down and burn in my woodstove. Lot work for Free heat in the winter.
I hope you, your family and your home are doing 🙏 much better than the day you skillfully filmed your raw footage of Hurricane Ian's wrath from inside and outside your beautiful home 🏡 I will be thinking about you guys as you go through the process of clean up but very happy to see that you and your family's Spirit was uplifting under such horrific circumstances! Please stay safe and Thanks for sharing your story with us 😊
Good footage. To put the storm surge into even more context, I'm in Labelle, about 30 miles up river from you all and my dock was about 4 feet underwater. Ian was a strong one for sure.
You can imagine all the People praying for you. We all can relate to the reality of losing everything & then the aftermath. I pray you will find encouragement through each other & strangers, who give freely & lovingly. 😅
Love your GSP's! I lived through Ivan in '03 while in the Cayman Islands. My GSP, Tessie Tomas (RIP), was traumatized for months afterward. I think all the stuff on the ground that shouldn't have been there and the smell of all the dead birds, animals and foliage made a profoundly negative, lasting mark on her. We went out by bicycle the day after Ivan passed through. Total devastation, just like what is being experienced in Ft. Myers, Cape Coral, Sanibel, etc. now. I saw the flat tail on your boy at 16:00. It was a million dollar experience I wouldn't have paid a nickel for. Best wishes to you , your family, your property and YOUR DOGS!!
I would have been so 😨 😟 worried! You'all were pretty calm. Your house is just beautiful, and I hope you didn't get alot of damage. Good luck to everyone & I will surely add you to my prayers.🙏🙏 Sunny days are ahead.🍊🌷🏊🏄🍺

This footage was an eye opener. We had no idea what was happening!! My god it was horrific. You are a brave person,, godbless ,, May every person be safe .
I feel for all of you south of us. I am in Plant City In eastern Hillsborough Co. We just got wind damage unless you live near one of the rivers like the Alafia river. That is causing severe flooding among many other inlet rivers in central Florida.. Being a life long Floridian, I can say that this one will go in the record books. One day at a time. Thanks for sharing all of this with us neighbor.
@@bobbygflwould you elevate the generator for next time….and there will be a next time. Could you use generator for a few things in your house while water is rising? I don’t know abt safety
It’s videos like these that are up and personal that help us here in the NorthWest realize how devastating that hurricane was. I was in Ft Meyer Beach 10 months ago and to see everywhere I went to eat and have fun just Gone! blows my mind. I’m glad you and your family stayed safe.
Great video with a shitty situation 😢 I feel silly for getting upset over the last couple days because I lost power for a day and a half here in North Carolina..My ❤ goes out to you guys & gals.. Now the dogs in the video, did make me smile.. not gonna lie ❤️ I hope a speedy recover for all who was affected by this storm.. especially in Florida. ❤️
Definitely, we lost power for a week and a day here and we still have to use boiling water or bottled water. At a Wal-Mart in Del Prado a crazy lady was fighting over ice and another Cuban one was yelling saying that this Wal-Mart wasn't giving anything for free...I was about to put her in her place: Do you think this is communist Cuba?? But I preferred to keep the peace and let God handle that one.
Hoping you all are doing okay with the least amount of damage available. Hoping and praying for safety and restoration for all the residents of Florida and South Carolina.
Great footage & all day perspective.. Not great what happened to your neighborhood. The poor dogs didn’t know what the heck was going on. Getting the baby version in the Northeast this weekend.
I almost moved to Cape Coral a couple of years ago. It is a nice area with lots of canals. maybe after they get this flooding out of its system it will be safe for another hundred years.

Your house looks nice and new and much more elevated than most in this area. It was complete devastation in our area. Thanks for the video! Oh yeah and those impact windows really help muffle the noise, was much quieter than my house!
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCE. I AM FROM BUFFALO. LOTS OF SNOW BUT IT DOESNT KILL PEOPLE OR RUIN PROPERTY UNLESS A BAD BLIZZARD.
Witch part of Cape Coral is this? You are lucky you did not get more water . I am on the north east. We were without power until Monday. Thank goodness for generators and batteries for fans.
Wow!! I don't like flooding, too scary. I'm in NW Cape Coral on a canal and luckily didn't get any flooding. The wind was horrendous though and took about half of my roof shingles, my vinyl fencing torn down, 1 big palm tree uprooted, and my lanai torn down and in the swimming pool. All nothing compared to what other's have lost. 🙏🏻😇♥️😢
Can some explain the rationale to stay and ride out a storm like this? It's not like the storm was a surprise. Why not just pack a weeks worth of stuff and stay at a hotel. Seems like the risk/reward ratio leans heavily towards evacuation.
Well as a person who has ridden out many Hurricanes I can give you some insight. The horrible footage shown is usually ground zero go a few miles inland and it's not nearly as dramatic. Past experience with hurricanes and knowing your home or location enter into the decision. Once you leave your home you may not be allowed reentry for days or weeks, a little damage that could be easily repaired lets say a broken window or a hole in the roof, will causes major damage left unchecked. This home was not a trailer . Often times there are no places to stay if you do leave and going inland to say Orlando wouldn't have been any better. Many people have Businesses or other interests in the area that can't be abandoned. The list of reasons to stay goes on and on . We own a tree removal company and are considered an essential business. So we stay. In the end it's a personal and family decision .
Our grandad built home in this area before building 10 feet height added to property.. 5.5 acres.. generator was on 2 foot Platform i guess folks building homes in 1956 in Had common sense building a home the shutters are made from scrap boat hull .. no damage no flooding .....thankfully your in higher elevation And came out ok .. have genset raised 3 feet .. now clean up time good luck
@@Tampa0123456789 I live in AZ. I realize snakes and others are around every day. But my thought was with all of that water washed up to the front of the house who knows what came with it. I sure wouldn't be out there barefoot. But that's just me.
This remark is not intended to be mean . People work hard for what they have , and spend their money as they wish . However , I could not live with all the possessions seemingly normal for people in this area .The responsibility would cause me such anxiety. I would probably rather spend my money on really good water and wind proofing from roof to foundation and in between .As well as that I would try to keep possessions to a minimum . That being said , I’m sorry for the losses sustained by these people .
This video is a testament to two things: 1) design specs, and strict adherence to them, which is why this house survived just just the wind, but the water. Hurricane regulations exist for a reason, and whoever designed this house guessed the storm surge exactly right. 2) preparedness. Someone here lives the Boy Scout motto.

@@RRRIBEYE Looks like somebody doesn't know how science works. Might wanna check into that before making yourself look even more stupid.
Thank you so much for this video - I also live in Cape Coral and our beloved city isn’t getting much media coverage ever though we were devastated by Hurricane Ian!!!
Thanks
Thank-you for sharing this. It's hard to imagine the reality of living through a storm, news feeds are not helpful, just hypeful.
Thanks
Good thing your house was built up to a higher elevation.. Every inch counts in a flooding situation, and saved you from suffering any major water damage..
Thanks
You were smart to have the house constructed on higher ground. It costs more to have the ground built up before construction, but definitely worth it.
Thanks
Thank you for the coverage, glad you and your family are safe as well as your beautiful home! Prayers to all those affected :-(
Thanks
Thank you for sharing this footage and I'm glad you and your family survived this!
Thanks
You Did Very Well considering the Massive Damage Done by Ian. I live in the pacific NW inland had a wind storm that took out over 75 big pine trees on my Property. It took two chainsaws 5 hours to get my 70 foot long driveway clear. Now 2022 I still have a handful of trees to cut and slash piles to break down and burn in my woodstove. Lot work for Free heat in the winter.
Thanks
I hope you, your family and your home are doing 🙏 much better than
the day you skillfully filmed your raw footage of Hurricane Ian's wrath from inside and outside your beautiful home 🏡 I will be thinking about you guys as you go through the process of clean up but very happy to see that you and your family's Spirit was uplifting under such horrific circumstances! Please stay safe and Thanks for sharing your story with us 😊
Thank you
I live in Port Charlotte. I will never forget the sound of the wind. Never
Crazy
Glad you guys are safe and thank you for the great coverage🤙
Thanks
Good footage. To put the storm surge into even more context, I'm in Labelle, about 30 miles up river from you all and my dock was about 4 feet underwater. Ian was a strong one for sure.
Wow! I can’t imagine
It looks like they did real good it’s always a gamble to stay or go some people cants afford to leave and/or have no where to go
Thanks
You can imagine all the People praying for you. We all can relate to the reality of losing everything & then the aftermath. I pray you will find encouragement through each other & strangers, who give freely & lovingly. 😅
Thank you
You seem to have been relatively fortunate. Hoping you all are Ok.
Thanks
Thanks!

Thank you. I stayed in Cape Coral for six months a couple years ago near Publix on DelPrado. Friends got 2ft of water in house. Hope u r all fine and making good progress. Prayers from AR.
Thank you!
Horrifying. I would be in panic mode, but glad you and your loved ones survived!
Thanks!
This footage was an eye opener. We had no idea what was happening!! My god it was horrific. You are a brave person,, godbless ,, May every person be safe .
Crazy
I feel for all of you south of us. I am in Plant City In eastern Hillsborough Co. We just got wind damage unless you live near one of the rivers like the Alafia river. That is causing severe flooding among many other inlet rivers in central Florida.. Being a life long Floridian, I can say that this one will go in the record books. One day at a time. Thanks for sharing all of this with us neighbor.
Crazy. Thanks
Thank you for the report.
Thanks!
@@bobbygflwould you elevate the generator for next time….and there will be a next time. Could you use generator for a few things in your house while water is rising? I don’t know abt safety
I hope everyone is ok and didn’t get hurt 😔 good luck everyone out there🙏😇
Thanks!
I have so many memories, not stalking, hope you all fare well and know you are being protected. I live in Tn. since 2004 just after Charlie
Thanks!
It’s videos like these that are up and personal that help us here in the NorthWest realize how devastating that hurricane was. I was in Ft Meyer Beach 10 months ago and to see everywhere I went to eat and have fun just Gone! blows my mind. I’m glad you and your family stayed safe.
Thanks!
Talk about being the envy of the block! Anyway, glad you guys are safe. Prayers for everyone 🙏❤️
Thanks!
Thanks! Crazy
Hoping you all are doing okay with the least amount of damage available. Hoping and praying for safety and restoration for all the residents of Florida and South Carolina.
Thanks
I’m so glad you guys and your beautiful house is ok. You got very lucky 🍀
Hello 👋 how are you doing?
Thank you
Thanks for sharing. It makes me think about what I need to do if I'm in a hurricane. Don't expect gov to help u. You r on your own.
Thanks
Great footage & all day perspective.. Not great what happened to your neighborhood. The poor dogs didn’t know what the heck was going on.
Getting the baby version in the Northeast this weekend.
Good luck!
Thank you for showing this. I have family in Cape Coral near Burnt Store Gulf Stream Pkwy on end camel. Have not heard from them. 😢
Thanks
What's the elevation of your home? That was a close call. So glad you all are safe.
Thanks
Boy u guys are very, very Luckie thank the Lord thanks for sharing.l was on the edge watching this
Thanks crazy
Great video. Y'all were so fortunate that you didnt get 6-8 ft surge as was predicted in some places.
Thanks
Thank God you made it through. Thanks for sharing. Hopefully everything is okay with your house once the water recedes
Thanks!
I almost moved to Cape Coral a couple of years ago.
It is a nice area with lots of canals. maybe after they get this flooding out of its system it will be safe for another hundred years.
Hurricane season has another month left. Plus the ocean is rising. Most of Florida is going to be underwater in a couple hundred years.
Youre never safe in a hurricane prone area. Not a matter of IF, but when your home is destroyed
Craxy
Super happy you and your family made it without any physical injures
Thank you
Not the Porsche! 😀 Glad to see you guys rode it out safely.
Thanks
Love the silver octopus! Glad you’re ok. Hope your house dries out ok ❤️
Thank you!
Beautiful home..think of those who have nothing left not even a roof food or water.
Very sad
Thankyou for sharing with us Bobby so happy you didn't get water in your house im from uk I hope you and your family is all well and safe got through it OK so sad people lost there lives and there houses ruined my thoughts go out to you all and everyone else who is in the thick off it all I can't swim so if I was there I'd well panic and get scared I hope you all can rebuild be safe 😢😢😢😢
Thank you
Your house looks nice and new and much more elevated than most in this area. It was complete devastation in our area. Thanks for the video! Oh yeah and those impact windows really help muffle the noise, was much quieter than my house!
Agreed
GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCE. I AM FROM BUFFALO. LOTS OF SNOW BUT IT DOESNT KILL PEOPLE OR RUIN PROPERTY UNLESS A BAD BLIZZARD.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing! We have friends that live in Cape Coral and have not heard from them so this makes me feel better. Your home is beautiful 😍
Hello how are you doing?
Thanks
Glad your family is ok,love from Scotland.😍😍
Thanks!
Witch part of Cape Coral is this? You are lucky you did not get more water . I am on the north east. We were without power until Monday. Thank goodness for generators and batteries for fans.
Yacht club area
Crazy
That view from the front door is insanely scary , what a site
Crazy
I love how you're walking ni the water in the garage going "There's no electrical... well no.. there is,,, LOL! GET OUT OF THERE!
Lol. Safety first!
@@Sailsonly1 well said 👏🏻
Crazy
Our grandad built home in this area before building 10 feet height added to property.. 5.5 acres.. generator was on 2 foot Platform i guess folks building homes in 1956 in
Had common sense building a home the shutters are made from scrap boat hull .. no damage no flooding .....thankfully your in higher elevation
And came out ok .. have genset raised 3 feet .. now clean up time good luck
Great to hear!
I would be afraid walking around after a hurricane. Who knows if alligators or snakes washed up onto your property?!😳
Where do you live? Snakes and others are here everyday without a hurricane.
@@Tampa0123456789 I live in AZ. I realize snakes and others are around every day. But my thought was with all of that water washed up to the front of the house who knows what came with it. I sure wouldn't be out there barefoot. But that's just me.
It was crazy
You have a very beautiful home, hope all is well with your family and repairs are swift.
Thanks
This remark is not intended to be mean . People work hard for what they have , and spend their money as they wish . However , I could not live with all the possessions seemingly normal for people in this area .The responsibility would cause me such anxiety. I would probably rather spend my money on really good water and wind proofing from roof to foundation and in between .As well as that I would try to keep possessions to a minimum . That being said , I’m sorry for the losses sustained by these people .
Thanks
This video is a testament to two things:
1) design specs, and strict adherence to them, which is why this house survived just just the wind, but the water. Hurricane regulations exist for a reason, and whoever designed this house guessed the storm surge exactly right.
2) preparedness. Someone here lives the Boy Scout motto.
Thanks!
Looks like your property made it thru much better than so many others.
Lucky
This Hurricane was definitely a beast. We are in the North Cape and got lucky with not having flooding in our neighborhood
Crazy
I meant to wish you all good luck , keep posting when you can and give us an update.
I know Pine Island is experiencing some real problems. I believe that the causeway collapsed, crazy !

Thanks for coverage. Amazing your family and your were calm and smart while weathering the storm. Also you were able to check out your neighbor's homes. You have a beautiful home. Good luck thanks.
