- Never would I have thought I'd have to survive a hurricane by camping in my van. Talk about one of my sketchiest van camping experiences ever! Luckily we made it out with zero scratches and live to travel out of my van another day!

There’s a difference between a frying pan and baking pan. You don’t use baking pans on a direct flame like that. They’re too thin. You can fry your bacon in skillet then remove bacon and then cook eggs in same skillet. Eggs don’t take very long to cook.
That makes sense! Definitely won't make that mistake again!

Glad you faired through it well enough bro. We didn't get much more than some wind and a tiny amount of rain here in Gainesville. Compared to what you experienced and what those south of us got I'm thankful. Otherwise I think that breakfast got Lola's stamp of approval lol

Can’t imagine that level of wind. We drove through tornado alley in Kansas and drove through a system that produced two tornados. 50mph was the peak and we thought we were going to tip, totally stationary. We do have a high roof, massive con when you are caught off guard.

It seems astounding to me that you're worried about police and residents moving you on whilst you look for shelter. Here in Australia we also have strict rules around car camping (especially along the east coast) but I doubt you'd find a resident or officer who would move you on other than for your own safety - and most residents would probably offer you a driveway if they had one available. Especially considering how seriously we take natural disasters here.

Yeah it's crazy in Florida with any sort of vehicle camping. They are so strict and try every way possible to kick you out of spots. Luckily nothing happened that night but there's been plenty of times where I got booted. Thanks for watching!
I don’t think Australia takes natural disasters more seriously than the US. I live in S FL. What you’re seeing is the fact that people in coastal FL are used to hurricanes and know how to navigate the situation very well. We know exactly when what part of the hurricane is hitting when. We know exactly what’s safe, how to safely gather supplies, where & when & how much time we have, No place on the planet deals with hurricanes more professionally and efficiently than Florida and the Gulf states. No place. Not anecdote or wishful thinking - we know this. This guy lives in FL. He knows what he’s doing. We are so adept at managing risk we have hurricane parties. It does no good to panic. I have lived through the worst hurricanes of the 20th & 21st century thus far. In this case here the hurricane is approaching, not hitting. It’s very common, in even in these conditions for people to go out to see what’s open or just have a look around. It’s not less safe than than the usual dangers on the road. Yet. 🇺🇸
A good place to hunker down is a concrete construction multi level car park.
I never even thought about that. I know my van is to tall to go into a normal parking garage, but If I could find one with higher ceilings, that would be perfect!
@@TaylorVanBeek I saw storm chasers do that in a documentary. The storm surge is the dangerous part, and you were parking by the boats 😨I was a bit concerned you were not on high enough ground. If you are intending to travel once your build is done, it might be worth having strategies for different disasters.
@@christinamann3640 Yeah that's why I ended up moving from where the boats were at! I stayed a little more inland the second night. The first night at the beach, the storm hadn't hit yet. Just the wind!

I did sell the F-350! The truck was too big for me to just daily drive and was horrible on fuel! Not to mention that the price of diesel sucks right now 😰 So I switched to the van! So much easier for me and the pup to camp out of! And I appreciate it brother!

@@TaylorVanBeek Yes, actually the worst it's ever been here in Orlando with flooding. Lots of high winds and over a month of rain in 12 hrs.

I lived in Jacksonville beach should of just use walmart parking lot or hotel parking 🥴 you can always park at any plaza on beach blvd. I’m in a process of finishing up my van also!

I hope you got at least a couple of miles from the ocean. Before you go to sleep, because the storm surge can wash you write out into the ocean you don’t stay where you can see the ocean in a hurricane.
Pretty sure a van lifer hunkered down in the parking lot of my apartment complex for Ian. It wasn't my first thought. I was so sure it was a creeper van until I thought about it more.

I know you live in migrant rich Florida at the moment. We need to preserve the English language. I'm doing this not to call you out specifically but to preserve proper English. Fascinating & great content. I enjoyed it. Oh & if salespeople can't speak English properly...I hang up. If you can't speak properly, you likely can't do other things properly & I won't invest in shoddy service. You are either right or wrong. There is no half pregnant.

Everybody get at least 2 to 3 miles away from the beach when you’re doing this kind of thing do not park under or near powerlines, high buildings or trees

I thought about it but I couldn't find a parking garage that I could fit in with my rooftop fan! It's to tall by a few inches at most parking garages!

Sorry your bacon scorched… would have been better to use the actual oven to Crisp your bacon ok that baking pan.
Have you tried cooking your bacon 🥓 in the oven? Much more evenly cooked and not burnt.
I have not but that's next on the list for sure!

OK first of all why would you stay in a van in a hurricane I mean really dude. Ian was a big hurricane so I don’t understand why you said you only got wind. It had 160 mile an hour winds! I wish you would’ve taken you and your dog to a hotel. You would’ve been a lot better off and please don’t ever do that again that was really nuts.
That poor dog. She is massively underweight and being neglected 😢
she is most certainly not underweight and not being neglected. She goes to the vet regularly and eats plenty of food.
