- I'm on a mission to try out every single dumpling restaurant in the greater Seattle area and today I went to the popular Dough Zone where the dumplings were very very similar to Din Tai Fung. Then it was to Northern Dumpling House where the dumplings blew my mind and finally it was to Momo Pizza Ghar for some SPICY MOMOs

Just as a disclaimer, the prices are higher using these apps. These apps gouge the heck out of these local restaurants and the high prices help them recoup. Call and order for pick up if you can, usually dramatically cheaper and all profits go to the restaurant. These apps are better than nothing for the restaurants if you order delivery, but if you pick up, don't use the apps.

the food prices are marked up on delivery apps, it's the restaurants passing on the commission the app companies take from them. if you order directly the prices ought to be about 30% less!

Glad they are getting attention. I was super excited when they opened, but they're in a corner of a half abandoned strip mall and I'm always worried they'll go out of business due to bad location.
We went yesterday (Wednesday) during the mid-afternoon. They weren't so busy probably because it was during off hours. Anyway, we mentioned Mikey's review. They knew what we were talking about so you guys clearly made an impression. Their dumplings are delicious. Sorry Dough Zone. My heart loves another.
I went same day! I mentioned the channel too and he said somebody told them! 45 minute wait so I drove home and came back for them lol. Glad they're getting the attention. The product they are serving destroys everything in the surrounding parking lots.
I used to drive by this place every work day since it opened and didn't even notice it was there.

If you're ordering for pick up, don't order through a delivery app! Order directly from the restaurant by calling in, or they usually have their own service to order online. That way the restaurant gets all the moeny from the sale instead of a percentage. Also, Postmates/DoorDash/etc the food tends to be a dollar or two more than it actually is.

I have to agree - Northern Dumpling House is the best around. They are fairly new to the area and clearly family-owned. What a local gem!

Grew up going to that store and it’s predecessor! After moving from Singapore to the PNW, it was the first food store my mom found for all the foods we loved and missed! It was always a special occasion to go and get to buy our favorite goodies.
We took a drive to Northern Dumpling House yesterday. OMG! My mouth did a happy dance. Thanks for finding this place Mikey. Northern Dumpling Heaven!
It turns out you can buy bags of their dumplings frozen if you order three days in advance. Guess what my son it getting for Father's Day. :-)

Mikey, you should try the shrimp and chive dumplings from A+ Hong Kong Kitchen in the International District in Seattle. Those are some of the best I’ve had other than Northern Dumplings.

I love the mans Honesty above all. He won’t say it tastes good if it doesn’t and he rates it compared to other bomb places he’s gone to and he’s gone to plenty to know about the food. Expert and honest, I don’t even have to try the food to know it’s bomb asf.

Top gun seafood in Bellevue is so bomb. I go there almost every week. The shrimp slippery noodles, football, and steamed custard buns are the best things in my opinion

I love the uwajimaya! Have you gone to the one in Seattle, I think you would like it has a bookstore & food court. When ever I go I must stock up on stuff & bring them home (I live like 3-4hours away& can only visit once or twice a year)
I used to go shopping there until they built the one in Portland.
Kinokuniya! Love that store. Nothing like getting manga, Onigiri, and Ramune in the same place.
Nothing worthy at the food court though.

Being a Nepalese myself, chilly momos are one of the best momos we can get here, I'm glad u liked it Mike!
BTW we have two different types, one is the one u ate, steamed chilly and we also get fried chilly, its amazing, you should try it if u find it or make it yourself.
I heard that one of the chefs from Ding Tai Fong who left and started Dough Zone and that’s why you taste the similarity in the soup dumplings.
I actually always thought dough zone tasted better. DTF kinda bland imo.

It’s not entirely true. Chefs left but there xlb is frozen which means the skin can be as delectable. I eat dough zone but the quality isn’t the same as dtf

I'd agree completely except it's undergoing a massive remodeling inside, so between that and the pandemic shopping there isn't as fun as it would be.

There's an Uwajimaya in Seattle Downtown(amazing pan asian food court) and one in Bellevue, smaller but they have a frozen mochi counter right now that is amazing. They also do hawaiian stuff. But you should go to the one downtown with the bookstore and the food court in the international district. Pretty great. The one in Bellevue is where I get pork belly for chashu pork in my ramen and they also have some just ok takeout. Their onigiri's usually have overcooked rice, probably left over rice from the previous day. But at least I can get some takeout onigiri's/musubi's. But I've made soup from their roast duck and it is really nice.

That's so funny that Mike was shopping at my Uwajimaya in Renton. I love that store, but there are 3 other great stores in the area. D&K International Grocery, Viet-Wa and Ranch 99.

When you order through a food delivery app, the prices are marked up 10-15% from actual menu prices. Not sure but that might be why everything was so expensive

I miss Uwajimaya! I had to move to the DC area a couple years ago, and Uwajimaya was my go-to place for anything asian foods/snacks when I lived in Seattle.
If he was my uncle I wouldn't even go back home.😂😂

Uwajimaya is the BEST! It was one of the first places I went to after I moved to Seattle. H-Mart is also another good place for authentic chinese/japanese items Mike :) I've had dough zone and it was good, but like you said overpriced. I'm excited to try the second place you went!!
Yes!! nepalese momo and noodles are my fav! I get it a lot in jackson heights queens.But yeah their hot sauce is spicyyyy!! Also, i wonder if that fusion supermarket is only in seattle! hmmm definitely your return so we can see what dumplings you get. Oh you gotta get bibigo dumplings!!
Uwajimaya is just in the greater Seattle area. The flagship store is in the International district and it's the largest! So much more than the Renton store, but the Renton one is close to home for me and I already have trouble leaving without buying way more than I came for, so the Seattle store is kind of a special treat!
oh, and the Bibigo beef bulgogi Mandu ones are DELISH!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who grew up in the PNW as soon as you talked about a Japanese store, everyone was raving about I knew you were going to Uwajimaya. They have a few locations and I used to frequent them regularly.
