So I commute on a mildy aggressive stretch about 1 hour up and 1 hour back a day , I drive hard , but never on corners , you can just tell when the car wants to give . Anyways , potholes could potentially bend your lips , but luckily my first set of real wheels are holding up well , plan on buying beaters soon
This exact thing happened to me about a month ago. Ran 215/35s on 9.5 wides and hit a huge pothole and bent the shit out of a front wheel. Granted the pothole was big enough to have bent a wheel with normal sized tires but you gotta pay to play
Instead of wasting money on buying beater rims, just spend the little extra and buy the *_correct sized tyres_* for the rims you already own. Problem solved... plus your car will look and handle better as well!
To me stretched tires are like camber. They look when they aren’t over done. It’s when you put massive amounts of camber and put overly stretched tires on is when it looks bad
WHY? Just fit the correct sized tires.(minimum 225 to maximum 275). So, let's say a 245, almost 2" wider than you are asking about. Alternatively, if you want to leave 205's on there, then use a 6" rim.
I've seen it many times here in arizona where ADOT has pulled someone over and redtagged there car as inoperable untill the streched tires are replaced with ones within safety specs
Each tyre manufacturer has recommended width max and min to fit a tyre, this allows for more than enough safe stretch. The biggest issue is under inflation, you need to run higher pressures to stiffen the sidewall and check it regularly.
Slight stretch is all good. I mean slight !! I have done it before. 215 /40 16 on a 8.5 wide wheel. I had 245 50s but cops were all up my ass about tread out to far so I put the smallest tires the shop would do at the time . Back in 2004. When did people start doing it anyway ?? I definitely preferred the bigger tires but local law enforcement where I live is super bored all the time 😄
Since the days of the lowriders in the 50’s and 60’s. They were one of the first car communities to even adopt tire stretching on their rides and it’s still prevalent in the scene even today
The wheels I put on my jetta I put 285's on and like 2deg of camber. These same wheels people will slap 205's on and camber out to like 10 deg. I will never understand the mentality of wanting wide wheels without the meat, or the contact patch.
My tires are stretched 1cm & one of them exploded because there was a nail in one of them & I didn’t notice that it was deflating. My tire pressure sensor doesn’t work apparently because it didn’t even come on after the tire came off of my rim
I’ve got just enough stretch to be fender to lip when aired out and as long as they are around 45psi or higher I haven’t had a problem. Just a slight pucker factor when cornering lol
I always thought stretching started on Lowriders. I recall seeing them in the 80s (when I first really started paying attention to cars) with 13" Daytons and tall skinny whitewalls.

I run 255x35 on a 12 wide wheel with 9 degrees of camber. Tires last me a month, it De-beads sometimes. Always gotta drive super cautious. Always worried for the wheels. Honestly it’s pretty stupid to do. Im just running bunch of camber for now because my widebody kit hasn’t shipped
I run. A 265 on a 18x13.4-40 on a ls swap. Man up just keep her at 40 psi and check your car every time you drive I’ve de beaded twice once cause I didn’t my pressure after letting my car sit
I gotta know with wheel set up that have a ridiculous camber . the contact point wont be the whole tire and only part of it will wear out . can you flip the tire and reuse the rest of the tread on the other side of the tire ?
I bought an 06 corvette and the rear tires were stretched on. Looked really ugly and the worst part is that because the rear tires were moving faster than the fronts the car freaked out and wouldn’t go over 75 mph unless you turned off traction control
That's not how any of this works. How would your rear wheels be spinning faster than the fronts, when the fronts are dead wheels. They just get pushed. This comment makes no sense.
Slightly stretched with normal camber is one thing; you retain the contact patch on the tread and evenly distribute stress to both sidewalls. Stretch with extreme camber? Your contact patch is the inner corner of the tread (about as wide as a bicycle tire), and you put all the stress on the inner sidewall, almost a guaranteed de-bead unless you run like 125 psi. If you wanna run the latter setup and wreck your wheels and car when a de-bead almost inevitably happens, more power to you, but do so off public roadways, lest you lose control and kill innocent motorist etc.
I've had tires debead on me on the freeway. Shit is not fun. Then I broke my oilpan a few weeks later. Gave up on "stance" after that. I still like lowered cars but no longer like the idea of super low on static suspension anymore.
I bought a car with streched tires. After a while those tires became distorted. Recently I borrowed some wheels with streched tires and they also began to vibrate so I assume theyre a goner too. A guy at a tire shop told me that streching them does in fact lead to possible damage. Maybe youre not supposed to ride them hard, I dont know. I feel that kind of tires dont like hard cornering. Also if you hit a small bump at higher speed there is no cushioning effect. Instead you hit it hard with your rims 😱 Theyre for show, not for spirited driving I guess.
I don’t really mind stretch so long as it’s not done to the extreme. Same goes for camber, I like camber that is functional for grip purposes not for looks
Adding Camber is tilting the wheels OUT at the top, so that's almost never done for "grip purposes". However it's debatable if there is any suspension changes that you can make to compensate for the degradation you've made when you stretch your tires.
Smaller tires having less grip is not entirely true...a bigger contact patch will just divide the force over a bigger area, cancelling the change in grip out. The real reason you want to have wider tires in a performance car is: 1, getting rid of the temperature in the tire more easily (and therefor the tyre lasts longer in a healthier state) and 2, when you corner hard, a stretched tire is starting to run on its sidewalls... which you don't want.
Is a 245 35 tyre on a 9.5j wheel considered stretched? It looks slightly stretched to me but I’ve looked up and the tyre size I have currently is the minimum size recommended for the wheel. Is it safe?
I read on a racing forum once that a small amount of stretch can assist with tyre flexion when cornering at high speeds. How true this is I’m not sure, it could just be an excuse to justify having stretch though it did specify only a small amount of stretch, not the kind of stretch seen in the “stance” scene.
@@TestECull yea like, I wouldn't say 265/35 was stretching on a 9.5" wheel, but it wasn't "flush" if you know what I mean? Just a tiny bit narrower than perfectly square

That S2K setup looks like the beads aren’t even seated. I wouldn’t even touch it. Mild stretch, however, that can definitely look alright. Just don’t go buying a cheap tire, they’re already enough of a pain to seat on the right size wheel.
1 thing people.never talk about with being stretched, you are exposing the sidewall to more of the road that should be. sidewalls on radial tires are pretty soft and thin compared to the tread. sidewalls are not meant to be exposed to road crap. Really stretched tires areuch more prone to sidewall punctures than normal fitments, not good
Why have a performance car if it dose the perform well, the best thing about fast cars is the driving experience and if camber and stretched tyres is hindering that just drive with normal tyres
In my opinion stretched tires look ugly same with the crazy camber both are dangerous and it doesn't really worth the money to make a car look lowered It's not a daily driver let alone the roads with potholes
*not just at that time. The laws in Germany are still like that also strechting is illegal on it'e own....you can "srech" a 205 maybe a 195 on a 8" wheel when you get a confirmation from the tire manufacturer that it's safe. But strechtes like a 175/165 on a 8"... no way you can do that
Used to have stretched tyres about 15yrs ago when "german style" was all the rage (everything shaved, dropped as low as possible, mildly stretched tyres on wide rimmed wheels). Now I run 235/45 on 7.5" wheels, which is technically way too wide but it doesn't even look that meaty imo. The difference? Taking a corner on the limit on stretched tyres = hoping they don't debead and once you're over the limit, you're gone. Taking a corner on the limit on meaty tyres = the tyre rolls without risk of debeading, reducing the contact patch a bit so you start slipping within the limits so you're warned to take it a bit calmer. Both ways are suboptimal compared to the recommended match, but meaty is definitely more forgiving than stretched. Also too much tyre roll can be compensated by running a little bit of negative camber, but there is no way you can compensate for throwing away all the flex of a tyre.

If you want the stretched look just buy lo-pro tires, wide wheel, wide low tire, no blowing out your sidewall.
Just got my wheels last month, got a nice stage 1 or 2 stretch on them 17x9 with 215/45
After spening all that money, why didn't you pay a bit extra and get the correct size tires for your 9"?
@@johncoops6897 cuz im a broke pizza boy
@@liamburgess5029 - good luck hiding the gutter rash from the poor exposed rim beads. The whole concept of stretched tires is really moronic, and hopefully the silly fad will eventually pass into obscurity.
@@johncoops6897 i haven't touched a curb, I don't understand why ur upset I'm enjoying my car differently from you? have a good day tho
Can we get an updated video on the RSX??? It’s been over a year or so since we had some love for them! D:
Yea I got 225/40/18 semi slicks on 18x11s... I already know it’s going to end bad 😬
I’m against anything that takes away performance, don’t like it.
so you don't like airbags, heated/cooled seats, power steering, aircon, a decent head unit, a spare tyre etc...
@@Jaytriple1 if you have heated and cooled seats it most likely more of a cruiser.
@@alexstromberg7696 _laughs in Mercedes E55_
@@Jaytriple1 My E92 has all that. What I’m referring to is modifying your car to a point that it performs worse than stock. Fuck boy camber and frame banging on the ground so you can no longer take turns at a decent speed is what I’m talking about.
@@Jaytriple1 that's a cruiser, weights 2 ton. Doesn't corner. Also

I want max function so not for me, but that said, just a little to get a nice flush fitment looks kinda cool. However....that poor S2000!
Can we please have a ''So you want a BMW E34'' episode)))
Love the little Scooby Doo bit you threw in there
I have 215 45 18s on my wide body neon srt4 with a 10.5 inch rim
I ran 17x10.5 all around on some federals 215/45r17 and never had a problem 🙏🏽
Why did you waste your money for a wheel doesn't fit
I wasnt supposed to get 245’s for my 12” wheels?
That S2K setup looks like the beads aren’t even seated. I wouldn’t even touch it.
Mild stretch, however, that can definitely look alright. Just don’t go buying a cheap tire, they’re already enough of a pain to seat on the right size wheel.
Can you recommend other mods to make my car less drivable?
last time the stretch topic was talked about there was a serious disclaimer
Put some more meat on that dish. You're gonna starve.
What's the wheel brand on the evo it looks 👍
1 thing people.never talk about with being stretched, you are exposing the sidewall to more of the road that should be. sidewalls on radial tires are pretty soft and thin compared to the tread. sidewalls are not meant to be exposed to road crap. Really stretched tires areuch more prone to sidewall punctures than normal fitments, not good
What are stretched tires number one enemy?
Potholes
People who don't pay attention to the road.
Both fax 😂🙏🏼
Why have a performance car if it dose the perform well, the best thing about fast cars is the driving experience and if camber and stretched tyres is hindering that just drive with normal tyres
Lol 205 40 on my 9.5 and I could run a little more stretch 💀
What’s the biggest stretch possible on a 18x10 wheel?
How about get 275 like an adult
In my opinion stretched tires look ugly same with the crazy camber both are dangerous and it doesn't really worth the money to make a car look lowered It's not a daily driver let alone the roads with potholes
One of the most important things I learned in high school is using rubber sized too small is unsafe 😂😂😂
*not just at that time. The laws in Germany are still like that
also strechting is illegal on it'e own....you can "srech" a 205 maybe a 195 on a 8" wheel when you get a confirmation from the tire manufacturer that it's safe. But strechtes like a 175/165 on a 8"... no way you can do that
245/40 on 18x10.5 is what I’ve been on for months and I think not too much but just enough
They're a lot of car trends I will never understand or like but it's your car, go crazy
I’d enter but I legit just received my custom built from BC. Still might buy something tho lol
