Let me know what you thought of this video! Авто/Мото
Never understood how we ended up with a worldwide measurement that has Metric, a ratio and imperial all in one 😂
Oh yeah! Jeez I'm so dopey I never thought that before.
Tire cartel
Side note did you know light bulbs used to last 100,000+ hours. Light bulb cartel got designed light bulbs that failed at 2,000 hours.
Tom Jones sounds like we need to talk to the CEO of light bulbs. 🤨
@@tomjones5860 this is why i buy the Edison bulbs that have a nice glow and i have had the same ones on my lamp for years
Ah but race tires don't use ratio. Only millimeters and inch
I kept thinking you were filming in a different garage, then I remembered you put in those lights. All of the shots look like they are in high definition now.
We could see outside and not have a blacked out taylor. FFing awesome
I couldn’t figure why it looked better, took a second.
I think the bodykit makes the 17s look acceptable. If the body didn't have that bit of extra meat to it it would probably look whack
Dude, I love the way they look. It makes the car look like a track car!
9:12 The precision we've come to expect from Taylor in the Miata.
the pop up headlights kinda work as corner markers on the car, it's helpful.
24:50 "$50 tire tires" 😂
Not even into drifting, but it’s pretty interesting to know. I watched the whole video.
Probably one of your best vids yet! I loved it! It has ALL the education!
I don't actually drift, but I'm starting to get into drag/street racing, and a lot of the same principles apply. Thanks for making this!!!
It’s just before 3am and I’m about to leave work on my bike listening to Taylor talk about tires. Solid way to end the day lol
Love the way those tires look on the Miata and those garage lights are freaking fire bro looks great... I don’t drift and just watch an entire video on tires for drifting and liked it haha
Driver side brake light is out love the content and the editing is 🔥
Super Informative! Thank you Taylor!
This was super helpful. Explained literally everything I had questions about and then some!
Thank you for explaining the tyre situation. I was in the beliefs that ’less grippy tires’ are better.
Oh. And the lighting in the garage, makes it look like it’s filmed in hd
This is an interesting debate, especially considering chassis limitations. I personally think that 17 is the ideal size for cost and performance for basically all cars, although on the bigger and higher power cars, 18s are certainly the way to go. I am very happy that the Kenda KR20 has become the standard competition tire for events like Super D and Final Bout, because it keeps things fair and consistent, and they are a great value tire. If there was a 15in KR20 that was priced in accordance to the rest of the range, that would be perfect because then basically every car can standardize. It sucks that it is hard to find 225 or wider 15s, and I am personally running into that on my track Miata.
Also, I appreciate how you talked about choosing a car taking consumables into account. I personally love Miatas and Civics as grip cars because the consumables(tires and brakes primarily) are cheap and plentiful. I picked a miata as my primary track car for college because of it. However, as soon as you really push those chassis and require more grip, you are going to be hard pressed to find a setup that is affordable and still functions/looks good. Then you are talking about stepping up in chassis to a car that can run 17s, and all of the consumables increase in price. It is one of the many automotive slippery slopes.
Overall a very well done/thought out video. Thanks for posting!
Love the video ! Keep on going on the amazing content Taylor , realy instructive , Take care!
I really appreciate you taking the time to explain this is such detail!!!!!! I’d LOVE to see more content like this!!!! (Though I love everything you e been doing lately!)
normally i'm not a fan of 17s on a miata but those fit pretty good. Looks like you could do more camber though like you said.
Love the different views/ edits!!
The editing on this video was awesome man!
He does always take the extra time to catch every thing he does down to putting every lift arm under the car and pushing the button to raise it. Takes a couple minutes more but tires the whole process together. Not many content creators take the time to do that.
I just ordered and installed a kbd kit because of you! Its gonna be flippin awesome!!
love the new lighting in the shop.
When is the Fummins build starting?
The lighting is absolutely amazing man. Really good information.
It made such a huge difference!
I appreciate you explaining of the knowledge you have with your fans. Not a stab at Adam lz or other sponsored drivers but I never knew about tire specs per tire and price
This is a very good video explaining on tires, KNC😍
I was puzzled as to why this video looked more professional. The editing, the personality... everything was the same but then I remember the lights! The lights have made a big change for me as a viewer.
One of the only other cars running a suzuka that ive seen! Very good info. My car was the only one known for quite some time :)
hell yeah you helped me decide on a tire size for my car!!!! thank you
Love the videos bro thanks 🙏
Great discussion. Thanks!
very helpful mate thanks
love the content oh and love the editing looks very good .. stay baller man love your channel :)
Thanks for the info man, this was the best so far. I'm building my 99 Lexus gs300 for drifting and honestly and tips on the build is so helpful
The lighting is killer 🤘🏾
Dude I love them",they make your car look super power full keep them tay tay
Us dirt track racers use grooving and siphing to either help build heat, or eliminate heat; and tire chunking/blistering. You can also add forward bite or side bite, or both simultaneously depending on how you groove. Idk if it would be worth your time to incorporate these techniques into your program or not. If you find cheap tires that work good but they blister, groove directly through the blistering area around the circumference of the tire.
Looks good man and theres no harm having a bit of compromise between function and form.
Cars slammed got a kit etc roll with it
The lights make such a huge difference dude. Good call
Haven't bought performance tires since the Toyo T1-S in 195/45-15... Used to run 175/50-13 on 13x8s back in the day too haha.
Oh, and also, more sidewall = more forward bite because it increases the contact patch length, known as pneumatic trail. Other things that increase pneumatic trail are softer sidewall, narrower width (at the cost of cornering grip) bigger diameter (as you pointed out) and lower air pressure (again at the cost of cornering grip).
That lighting upgrade is crazy good
Haven’t been here for a while holy shit the miata sounds amazing!
Looks sick man. Send it!!!
Love the new setup better keep it like that
You should try 235/40/17, loved that size when I ran 17s. 595s are the jam in that size
Hesitated to watch this video, didn't know if i wanted to watch you jabbering on about tires for almost half an hour. But as usual with you another useful and supprisingly interesting upload young man :) Thanks
I love the way they look. I think you should match the size in the front
One of my fav cars on yt
I was just wondering about diffrent tire set ups the other day😂 appreciate the knowledge! I like the new wheels but I think they will look better with your over fenders. Speaking of, what's the update on the over fenders?
I like it. Looks good on the 17s
I'd be concerned with the tire rubbing with that 17 on there.
Dude the shop lights were needed!!
The shot at 14:15 looks ssooo goood. Those lights are baller af!!!
This was helpful!
it sounds so good
If you can bring yourself to run a 235 then 235/40/17 are super common and will give you the clearance needed. They’re a popular size for people who run 17s as steerers when they need more clearance up front
You can even get Nankang AR1’s in that size 😉
ive ran 4 pairs of 245/40/18 ATR sport 2 and they de-laminated after 5-6 hot laps on my 200hp sc300. they did feel the best for sure! but they where terrible on wear.
I'm digging the exhaust
The lighting made a huge difference it stepped quality up big time. Have you tried out the lionharts I'm running a 245/45/17($50ish) and getting around 5 laps on the big track at pbir with tons of smoke and decent grip on a Z.
Can't wait for an update on that Cummins project.
Looks good brother
Great video!
My brain now hurts, thanks for all the information!!!
I love tire videos!
The car looks sick no matter which wheels & tires you have on it!
And sounds mean
When you first set it down damn it looks good
Wheels look awesome imo. Should mount bigger in the front too, although i don't know anything about drifting..
Taylor I love the way you explain things, English is not my mother language but I'm still able to understand everything you explain, for drifting cars what matters with the front tires?
I'm thinking about doing a 350z build de just like your old one. What tire would you recommend on that ?
The wheels Look great 👌
hey taylor, have you tried zestino's? I have a buddy running 205/50/15's for grip and he loves them. R comps for $86 a piece if you can find them. They come in 140/200/280 tread wear or something like that
how do you feel about the kr20a, i have a stock body s13 that i mostly street drive with the occasional parking lot skids, the kr20 has treated me well just wondering if it is worth the upgrade
Another thing, some events it is a 1 brand tyre choice... though if you run the oddball some getaway
That setup is meaty AF seeing it being lowered down lol
Those jnc 010s are tight, I'm getting the black ones with bronze lip... For my hardbody
I think you should try the 205/50/15 continental extreme contact sport, they have a lot of grip for a 205 and they are a little under 100$ a tire I believe. I have them on my miata, i don’t drift it but they have a ton of grip
big wheels look sweet, i think some big over fenders would really set it off
How to make non expensive tires expensive and get hella sponsors by taylor ray nice video keep it up !
pretty good options in 235/40/r17... A bit smaller sidewall than the 245/40r17 you put on there..
Those chrome wheels are awesome. And yourdrift car makes me jealous. Lol
I say the 17 with the 245 looks great with how beefy the Miata looks herself. I would stick with it for the savings and abilities
im glad you mentioned the unstandardized treadwear ordeal. although due to that significant factor i think its personally useless to use as a reference unless your within brand. not everyone has used the same tires as you so our idea's of treadwear could be totally off
I have 18x9 wheels, what’s the maximum width tire you would recommend for drifting?
Amazing video, BUT did anyone else notice the little bug on his side skirt @21:06 😂😂
I’m a fan of 595s. Grip , price , and look good ✌🏽🔰
How do you like the Mayflower tire machine? Does it do good with low pro tires?
You should talk about wheel speed to in relation to as well
for drifting it look perfect
that tandem was actually nutty, the tire from your miata was kissing his quarter panel
I think looks good, I didn't like the look when the rear looked like it was dragging on the ground but all that means nothing if they don't do the job (grip)
Only thing I'm thinking is wider tire more tire smoke lol. Probably not enough to make a difference but my favorite part of drifting. Enjoy watching the leader try to blind the follower and him try to navigate through it.
Hey Taylor great video. I’m new to your channel. Could you post some specs on your car mods in the video description? And maybe a link to those great value tires you recommended!
Thanks man!
there's years worth of specs available in taylors previous videos, from when he built the car
You can get 245-40-17 tires and there are many brands.
Should be enough smoke that you won't even notice!! It looks fine!!👍👍👍
Have you tried Valino Tires? I would be interested to hear your experience with them, I heard they are the best you can get even for how expensive they are.
For the future, always clamp important wheels from the outside. The clamps dig in an leave dents on the inside of the wheel.
I think the extra wheel speed/smoke will be worth losing a few points in looks, looking forward to your reaction.
What would you say is the best tire for a 18" wheel (bang for buck)? My car has about 200hp
Typically run like a 225-245 tire size
Those 17’s look good. I don’t know why but I feel like you need a larger wing with those wheels
