As someone who has long been too much of a wuss to watch the Bloodborne series and as such had not seen these characters beforehand, this was a wild ride. Also, pity that MatPat has retired or we could get an analysis on the level of monsterfucking that Seán is willing to reach Edit: Almost forgot, but I absolutely love that sword and would adore if you posed with it more during videos. Never be afraid to show off your cool stuff!
You should definitely check it out! Bloodborne has it's creepy moments but, being a soulsborne game, you're mostly just either mowing down or (more often than not) getting mowed down by it's weird creatures so you tend to less see the in you fave horror. The horror really is just some of the concepts and the more physiological stuff but that's mostly if you read the lore. Definitely would check out his Bloodborne, Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 3 videos, absolutely stellar games with stellar videos to back them!
@@A-Very-Common-Problem Will do, once I get into the right headspace! Is there a specific order you would recommend for someone who has little to no knowledge of the games and lore?
@@greenxlady4585 ah, understandable about the headspace thing but when you're ready I'll give you a simple answer, there really is no "correct" order (but that's Definitely not the answer you want, so here): Dark Souls 1 is obviously the class Dark Souls experience and imo the simplest combat wise, Spells, Miracles and Pyromacies are incredibly powerful here, melee combat is much more methodical with less reaction heavy movsets and the interconnected world usually means you have more options for goodies to grab if you're stuck on a boss or something. Dark Souls 2 is a bit of a black sheep of the series (I personally don't really like it but I'll try to be objective and not let my personal biases taint others experiences) where you level up much quicker and enemies feel at an all time slow, the incibilty frames are now tied to the "Adaptiblity" stat rather than staying the same and I feel the world is the most expensive feeling, like you have the most you can just go and do at one time (besides Elden Ring... Obviously) Dark Souls 3 was where I started personally because I heard it was the "easiest souls game" a sentiment I definitely do not agree with, the bosses and enemies have much more diverse and fast paced move sets, magical and miracles and then like for some reason just don't click with me in this one sadly, the areas are mostly in a pure linear path so if you face a boss brick wall you've gotta tough it out but idk man I love this one it just feels so fluid and smooth. Bloodborne is obviously the original topic of discussion here and absolutely INCREDIBLE for new players, the reason being it kinda forces you to learn how to play these games? lemme explain, there are some mechanics in these games which brand themselves as alternatives that you can use to make the game easier seemingly but absolutely WRECK your ability to use those mechanics when the training wheels need to come off, the primary example being shields, they act like an alternative to dodging but just are worse in every way and when the time comes to ditch the shield you will definitely struggle to adapt. Bloodborne takes these like "noob traps" and gives them the boot. Oh you want a Shield? Here's a joke item nerd. Equipment load? Fat rolling? Erm, never heard of them slap as many weapons and armour on as you can fit baybeeee. So it kinda helps guide people into Fromsoft's Catalogue. Also, idk if it was just the amount I'd played the other games but I found Bloodborne really easy compared to the others, absolutely no clue why that might just be me. Sekiro isn't really a soulsborne game, it wants to do and be it's own thing and that's ok! Fromsoft can and have made games in different genres and that's kinda what Sekiro is. Id also say it's monstrously harder for it, with parrying being your main form of defense, aka blocking attacks at the perfect time consistently until you can perform a big flashy strike and phase two-three-whatever an enemy. This makes the fights WAY faster paced but much less forgiving of failures, so id say give the others a go first, just helps you learn Fromsoft's general design philosophys and concepts you'll need to hone. Elden Ring is the game that has brought a lot of people to this community but in my opinion is absolutely NOT the easiest or most beginner friendly, I have no clue how that idea spread. I assume it's to do with the fact that there's a huge open world you can go explore before fighting bosses but for some reason (maybe it's just me personally) I struggle to find things sometimes and when I do they often feel lacking in stuff (again probably just me). It's a phenomenal game though and you should absolutely play it at some point, but to start? Id personally say no. Now, I'm very sorry that I've just thrown a brick of text at you but I hope you find it at least a tad helpful if you ever decide to play one of these, honestly though? It feels like the first of these games you play will probably be the hardest and also by extension most memorable, they're absolutely phenomenal and have so much care and passion oozing from each and every nook and cranny so just go with how you feel. Wanna go on a grand, proper medieval-fantesy type RPG adventure? Dark Souls 1 has your back. Would you like to adventure through the vast yet withering remnants of a great kingdom? Dark Souls 2 is there for you. Wanna feel like a godslaying true warrior in the final breaths of this long gone world fighting the serieses grandest foes? Dark Souls 3 will be an absolute blast for you. Dare you venture into the twisted, mind shattering plagued city of Yharnham and it's offshoots, in a much more gothic) eldritch horror Victorian type Nightmare world? Bloodborne will be a treat for you. Like the idea of feeling like the most formidable samurai there is, cutting through your opponents in ultra fast paced, edo period Japanese battles? You'd love Sekiro And last but absolutely not least: Would you like to set out on the most sprawling and colossal adventure in the Fromsoft catalogue to date, with hundreds of bosses, items, weapons, little dungeons and ruins to explore and huge open areas to navigate yet with easily the most potential for crafting your perfect build? Then Elden Ring is calling to you. So yeah, again my apologies for the brick of text I just threw at your but I hope this wall of words might help you in deciding which of the absolute masterpieces of game design and storytelling to pick up first!

Thank you so much for your insight and the details on each game, and I will definitely come back to them at some point, but given that I've never really played a lot of videogames in my life and haven't even owned a game system until I got myself a Switch last year, I simply haven't developed the muscle memory, reflexes, and instincts needed to play these types of games, without even going into the equipment I'd need. As such, I will watch Seán play them, because his passion is one of the things I love most about him, and watching someone who's good at the game will prevent me from becoming too frustrated and simply giving up.
