@@MiraPacku Not in the intended context. "All men are weak at some time in their lives. The Radiant protects those who are weak, and uses his strength for others. Strength does not make one capable of rule; it makes one capable of service." It's about the Radiant literally letting their strength be attacked before the weakness of others is attacked.
@@MiraPacku The words aren't about chronology, they are about values. Radiants may kill, but always in the service of other life - they place life before death. Radiants are strong, but they use that strength in *service* of weak so they they must be beaten before the weak can be harmed. They value the journey over the destination - everyone has a unique path they walk, and the choices they make are just as (if not *MORE*) important than the end goal they make those choices for. Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination. Speak again the ancient oaths. The Knights Radiant must stand again.
Brandon is cool like that. My wife contacted him on reddit of all places, and he actually responded. She asked him how she could get me a signed copy of Words of Radiance for my birthday, and he literally just sent her one. I'm just a normal not famous dude. All she paid was the shipping.
"YOU CAN NOT HAVE MY PAIN." In a series full of impactful and memorable quotes... That moment just sent CHILLS down my spine. Brandon is able to write action so well, and you are literally on the edge of your seat reading it. And when Dalinar said those words... I just... Blown away.
@@jacksepticeye Dalinar is one of my favorite characters. I love Kal, don't get me wrong, but Oathbringer really elevated Dalinar to me. We, as readers, meet him post-horrific acts. We get to know the man he is becoming, we see how honorable he is compared to everyone around him, we see his struggles with coping with his past without us really knowing about his past. We become attached to him, and root for him. And then you learn just what happened, and you learn why he's so motivated to change and atone. But because we got to know who he became, it doesn't turn people away, and instead people love him even more. Contrast that to characters in other stories, like Endeavor from My Hero Academia, where we learn the horrific acts first, and then see the attempt to atone. The fan base is pretty torn on whether Endeavor is a good character or not. Personally, I think he's a great character, but I can understand why people can't forgive him for his horrific acts that we were introduced to first. Hell, we are experiencing it in Stormlight itself with Moash. You see it everywhere "Fuck Moash." But at the same time, he is driven by the same "thrill" Dalinar was. When that influence breaks for a moment, so does Moash, coming to the realization of what he's done. It seems Moash is not turning back like Dalinar did, but I don't think we've seen everything Brandon is setting up for him. I rate Oathbringer higher than most people just because of Dalinar's development and backstory. I am a sucker for those "trying to atone, not redeem" stories, and he's the perfect example of that type of story. I just think it's really interesting to see people's reaction based on when you as readers get introduced to the horrific acts the person is responsible for. I find it fascinating. Good talking with you Radiant.
@@AeonAnomaly he’s not my favorite character but he definitely has my favorite moments. Book 4 spoilers obviously ->I don’t agree moash is guided by the thrill at all. He is basically soothed by odium taking all emotion including what the thrill would provide making himself into a person without emotion. He’s more a reflection of kaladin than dalinar because kaladin continues to struggle with his depression/past whereas moash tries to erase it. Moash is oathless willing to do anything for personal gain no matter how fleeting it is. Kaladin is the complete opposite since he ALWAYS puts himself last whereas moash is always #1 and there is no #2.
I didn’t jam as much with third book either but that part really made the book, incredible moment. I had a similar feeling in book 4 with the WE CHOSE. Goosebumps
Rhythm of War is like Kaladin’s second book because it was so intimate with him the whole time. I absolutely love it. The 4th ideal being Kaladin realizing he cannot save everyone, then being given Shardplate that can literally protect everyone around him was one of the coolest things in the whole series so far.
I love that Jack loves Stormlight. Kaladin’s experience at the Honor Chasm in book 1 hit pretty close to home for me. 3 years later I have a much brighter perspective on life and an adorable puppy named Kaladin.
That's amazing! My wife recently said if we have another boy we can name him Kaladin!! 🤩I've got a picture of that scene and my favorite quote from the scene: "What is one more try then? What could it hurt?" - Syl Love knowing how deeply these books have helped and impacted so many!
Lol, it was the same for me. I read maybe two or three books when I was a kid, and 15 years later, I decided to start reading again. I started with Stormlight Archive, and now I read almost everything from Brandon, along with some other fantasy series.
@@gracesull78756 My absolute favorite scene of all 4 so far. Love love love these books, and the love Syl had for Kaladin, and the amount of sacrifice she was about to give in order to keep and protect him... Absolutely amazing story telling. Brandon Sanderson is beyond phenomenal.
"The world is terrible, and people would have you believe you are terrible by association. But the truth is, the world is better for having you in it."
I used listening to the audiobook version of the Stormlight Archive as motivation to get me back into a healthier lifestyle. I told myself that I was only allowed to listen while cooking, exercising or going for a walk...I got a lot of steps in that year. Life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination.
OH MY GOD HELLO??? SEAN STORMLIGHT CHAT???? this is actually the best day ever, this is one of my favourite series, i also did the mad dive headfirst into stormlight instead of starting with mistborn (as most people recommend) and absolutely adored them. awesome to hear you've loved them too!!!
My favourite series too. I finished it probably 6-8 months ago and keep revisiting chapters here and there, just because its so good! Great to see a youtuber I watch talk about it in the same regard as myself!
There's something very refreshing today about a piece of media that's unafraid to be hopeful. There are a great deal of tragic awful things Brandon Sanderson's characters deal with, yet the stories present that it IS possible to rise above. I've had a number of times that Stormlight and Mistborn brought me to tears and kept me moving on. It's the kind of thing I hope I can create too someday.
I was so shocked and happy when this popped in my recs. I'm really delighted that you loved the stormlight archive and hope you share more of what you are reading. I still go back and watch some of Jack's videos with Mark every once in a while. If your open to recommendations, red rising is also a fantastic series
@@bigmanmccheez5342 @sholaDarr-firewolf2001 If the aspect of reading them, specifically reading speed, try the audiobooks. Kramer and Redding do an amazing job with them.
Something about the way Brandon writes is so good at fueling the imagination. The imagery in my head when I'm reading especially the action/battle scenes is so vivid, and the connection to the characters is so strong. Very few other authors have ever sucked me in that strongly.
For anyone who wants to know; the audiobooks are INCREDIBLE. and FINALLY SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO TALK AND GUSH Rhythm is my favorite i think. The revelations and the implications of those revelations. And the entire scene with Kal in the storm and wit comes to him. It brings me to tears even thinking of it now.
haven't listened to the stormlight audios in full (only a sample) but i believe mistborn has one of the same narrators and i adoredddd all three of them sm. like even once it was easier to read them myself bc my routine changed, i couldn't not keep going with the rest of the series in that format jsut bc it added so much to the story in its own way. cannot say enough praise for it really. only halfway through Rhythm tbh lol, but already know it's going to hit so hard, from the minor things i've heard and the build i'm already seeing. only vaguely know of the wit and kaladin scene and that fs will resonate and hit me like a brick lmal
for me it was from when he found out that teft died to saving lirin was my favorite part of the book for me because that was just the loss and pain you could feel it from kal because we felt it too teft was one of my favorite characters and it made me sad to see him die i didnt think brandon would do it
@@silvermoonlight1206 michael kramer is the goat. I'm sure the graphic audio version is good, ive heard a few clips of it, but it just feels flat in comparison somehow.
@@gracesull78756Michael Kramer and Kate reading are becoming the main narrators for Sanderson, and I couldn’t be happier as an audio book andy. They’re such good narrators
Brandon Sanderson is also awesome because he used to give writing seminars at some college, can't remember which, but those videos are all posted online completely free. I'm still petty about him saying the first line of a book doesn't need to be powerful, then hits us with "Szeth-son-son-Vallano, Truthless of Shinovar, wore white on the day he was to kill a king." That line eats for no reason.
Jack, please start the rest of the Cosmere. Reading the rest of the Cosmere books just makes everything happening in Stormlight better. So many easter eggs
As someone who struggles with depression Kaladin has been such a helpful character for me. Minor book 4 spoilers I was reading Rythm of War while I was in a pretty bad time with my depression, and Wit's conversation with Kaladin really helped me to feelnlike it was something i could get through. Whenever I felt my worst holding onto "You will feel warm again" was the only thing helping me to remember that those feelings weren't forever
Depression is so personal but it definitely nails a lot of the aspects of it. The extreme exhaustion and constant negative internal monologue is pretty accurate
@@jacksepticeyethe inability to accept help or even understand that anyone truly wants to help definitely struck hard with Bridge 4 and Adolin wanting to help Kaladin. Being so far into depression that when people try to pull you out of it, you just feel worse because you're just a burden
Mistborn era 2 has one of my favorite cosmere characters, but meeting kelsier for the first time in era 1 was just so fun. He's an interesting character for sure. And following vin was a good choice for learning about the scadrial. But warbreaker, I loved warbreaker so much.
This feels like the two of the biggest things in my life clashing together and it’s making me kinda emotional. I grew up without a strong parental role model. During my biggest personality crisis in middle school when I was questioning who I am and who do I want to be, watching Jack and immersing myself in this series were arguably the two of the biggest influences that shaped both my moral compass and the person I am today. The struggles the characters go through resonated really deeply within me and watching them grow and persevere through them was incredibly meaningful to me. Thanks to that Jack guiding me as well as a role model (I even got the same manbun haircut) I pulled through some of the toughest times in my life and I probably wouldn’t be here today without them. So thank you Jack for enjoying my favorite series of all time and thank you for being there for all these years.
I stood in front of these books at the store yesterday and just couldnt pull the trigger - might have to go back after this EDIT: I’m about 150 pages into The Way of Kings, no regrets here.
If you're just interested in reading, there should be an ebook version and a mass market paperback that are both inexpensive. Not sure which version you saw at the book store, but the author makes an effort to ensure you can get the books relatively cheap if you're just interested in them for reading (and not as a collector's item). Audiobook is also always a good option if you don't have the opportunity to sit down for hours on end to get through the books.
Totally worth it! If you want a just as good if not better ( depending on who you ask) story that is much easier to digest ( shorter) is brandon sanderson's Mistborn and the 2nd era has even shorter 500-700 page counts vs 12k+ 😅
@17:15 Oathbringer spoilers . . . . . . . . . . So Oathbringer is probably my #2 book so we don't agree on that but yeaaaah. Dalinar opening Honor's Perpendicularity at the Battle of Thaylen Field is one of the coolest things ever. It still gives me chills. "YOU. CANNOT. HAVE. MY. PAIN!" That whole battle is incredible. That and the singular line: "Teft. Knight Radiant." I screamed at that part. So glad you're enjoying Stormlight. I preach its glories to everyone who will listen. Also for Rhythm of War. I was really sleeping on a Bondsmith's power before that book. But that encounter with Ishar is SCARY.
My goodness do I love Oathbringer. Seeing Dalinar struggle with his past and find a new answer was impactful. Him finding that the most important step is the next step, got me out of a real bad rut. Also really liked the rest of the world building setup that was going on, especially with the hints to the wider Cosmere through Shallan's exploits
It has some BIG moments but I honestly cant remember most of the book. I just zoned out for some reason. Seems to be a minority opinion though as many people love it. The Ishar stuff was definitely very scary. Shows you how dangerous the heralds are/were. He took Dalinar to school
@@jacksepticeye Dalinar AND a cohort of 5 Windrunners. It was insane. I can't wait to see a Bondsmith really cut loose. That and a Dustbringer. We haven't really seen them in action yet either.
Hey Jack, if you're looking for a little bit more Stormlight, you may want to check out the two novellas that take place in between 2-3 and 3-4. They're called Edgedancer and Dawnshard. Dawnshard especially is great and has some plot points that will most likely be incredibly important in the future.
He mentioned Dawnshard in the video, but given that he doesn’t vibe with teenager energy I doubt Edgedancer will hit for him. Lift is an acquired taste 😂
@@CoconutMigrating Oh dang, must've missed that line. Yes, Edgedancer is certainly one of Sanderson's weaker writings. The sleepless bit though is fascinating.
This video inspired to me to start The Stormlight Archive! Part one of Way of Kings arrived today, and damn is it big! I can't wait to get started and I thank you, Jack, for introducing me to this series!
Sanderson is genuinely an amazing guy. I’m lucky enough to live in the same area as him and he will often just randomly pop up at local bookstores to sign and hang out, he brought his kids with him when I ran into him and chatting with them while he was signing was so fun.
I also just caught up with this series, and it’s so so good. Sanderson’s worldbuilding and magic systems are so in depth and just make sense. It’s awesome.
Yes, her hate is so underserved I feel like people hate her just because she’s not their favorite character like Dalinar or Kaladin, and her hardships are less visible at first
Which is why i’ll never say she’s a bad character. It’s just not my vibe. Some people probably dont like Kaladin’s constant downer energy which I resonate with. It’s all personal and that’s why they’re such good books. People relate to something different
@@jacksepticeye Exactly, especially in a series like this with such a wide and diverse cast. Most will be able to identify with one character more than the others
On a more sensitive note, completely agree, not to be soppy, but I wouldn't know what i'd do with myself if i didn't read regularly, it is escapism in its purest form. I love it, i joke that I can't die, because I've not seen the end of stormlight. I was so happy when I saw this - Stormlight archive might be my favourite ever series. I would also recommend "The Name of The Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. Even as a standalone, it's amazing.
I considered The Name of the Wind to be my favorite book for a long time before I read Stormlight. The writing is like poetry all the way through. Completely different writing style than Sanderson and I will admit that Kvothe largely just makes me mad very often, buuttt it is sooo pretty. I'd also say it works almost better as a standalone. The framing is beautiful. The prologue/preface about made me cry because gosh I'd like to be able to write that way someday. After I started reading Sanderson I'd say he's for sure my favorite author now in that his books are very good *and* you can have confidence that if it is at *all* in his power, he will get the books written and published on a schedule where you can kinda know what's happening because of his updates. And the surprise! 4 extra books! reinforced that even more.
Brandon is actually one of the coolest authors out there. I went to one of his q&a/fan meetups when I was 10 and I got a signed copy of his book Steelheart. I was also the only kid there who asked a question, and after applauding me for my confidence in taking the microphone, the response he gave was really amazing and provided insight onto the power system for another of his book series' - Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians - which i would have never know otherwise. They always say "don't meet your heroes", and for good reason, but for anyone else who shares my same adoration for Sanderson, he is truly an inspiring presence in person, and far more down-to-earth than his fame would ever suggest
I’m so excited for everyone watching this who has never heard of this series, author, franchise. This is probably the most important book series in my life right now and I hope Sean’s enthusiasm leads to more Cosmere fans!
Fun fact, Book 4 is technically Eshonai's book through the lens of Venli, thus the title. While Navani had the most page time, we were getting a lot of Venli and the history of the Parshendi / how those histories impacted the conflict that we've been witnessing since the first book. Truly surreal stuff.
Eshonai’s send off with the storm father made me really happy. I’m glad this book showed more of her and gave a minor yet great character the ending she deserved.
Wouldn't it being titled "Rhythm of War" make it Navani's, since she discovered it and wrote the journal? The Venli/Eshonai storyline was awesome I just don't understand why the title makes it Eshonai's (respectfully).
@@djsndifn while you aren't incorrect, whose book it is is entirely based on who gets flashbacks. Since we are seeing Eshonai's story in flashbacks, it's her book. Just with the caveat that we are seeing her story play out through Venli's eyes, because *spoiler* Because in the modern story, Venli is still alive and Eshonai isn't. We have to be able to relate it back to a living character. Eshonai's story taking place is what Venli's present day story is building off of.
@@iOfTheStormm Oh I do agree that the focus is on Venli and Eshonai, I was just a bit confused as to why the title is a signifier; also *spoiler* I totally forgot, but Eshonai attuned to the Rhythm of War when she was passing to the beyond, correct?
@@djsndifn the Rhythm of War is a song that the singers can attune to, yes. Sanderson also wanted to try to have the titles of his books signify a text within the world as well, i.e. Dalinar wrote a book called Oathbringer, Nohadon wrote The Way of Kings, etc. He's only breaking this norm with book 5. I don't think it matters much who interacts with the text itself (Kaladin has almost nothing to do with The Way of Kings in world, yet book 1 is his). I think it was also convenient that the Singers had the Rhythm of War. Titling the book the focuses on the singers that makes a whole lot of sense, even if Navani wrote the journal. But she mostly wrote that because of her interactions with the Singers in the first place, i.e. Raboniel. It's a little meta, but I think it works for what it was meant to be, even of the Venli/Eshonai flashbacks are the weakest of the 4 books. I think this book built out the world more than the first 3.
"Getting ready for the fifth Stormlight book feels like I'm a teenager again" made me so happy for you dude, can't wait to hear your thoughts when it comes out
That’s crazy cause I just started getting into Brandon Sanderson’s books as well. I started writing a book and wanted to read his work to see what the state of fantasy was today. Some really fantastic reads!
@@Windyroller as of recently it seems to have improved a decent amount, at the very least with my headphones on I've never really noticed the music getting too loud. I have heard they edit these sometimes after releasing them for like sound issues and whatnot so maybe that's the case also.
the mistborn series absolutely got me back into reading and i’ve been enjoying all the cosmere sooo much for the past two years! it’s definitely tied more into stormlight than you think lol. would def recommend reading them before stormlight 5!
The lore drops on how god hood actually works made me reread all the books again again and again of both mistborn and storm light. Piecing together the story and the lore of the cosmere through the chapter “quotes” that appear before a chapter actually starts and other offhand one off comments from different people or gods makes it such an interesting read.
Same! I pretty much stopped reading for years until I stumbled upon a video talking about Mistborn and then I read it. That was 6 years ago and I've read probably 100's of books since then. Really changed my life
I think you'll love mistborn (at least era 1), people often talk about it like its a 'heist' story, but thats only how it starts off. Plans fall apart when facing an immortal god king, and things pick up further in later books with shards getting involved!
Yes and no. I think it's very hard to go from Rhythm of War to Mistborn directly because mistborn was written waaay earlier and Sanderson's writing and pacing have dramatically improved since then. Standalones like Elantris and Warbreaker are a good gap between the two to break things up. Mistborn is awesome but I did have a harder time getting into it after reading 1-4 of the Stormlight Archive first.
My favorite RUclipsr talking about my favorite author and series. Can’t get any better. Looking forward to you reviewing Book 5 when that comes out later this year!
Became a big fan of Sanderson when he did a great job finishing off Wheel of Time when original author Robert Jordan passed away. Been reading all his books since then. Great choice of author Jack.
I am so excited to read Sanderson. I am currently about a quarter of the way through book 8 of WoT and am loving the series. I plan to jump into the Cosmere after I complete WoT.
Brandon Sanderson has been my favorite author forever. I’m rereading the Stormlight Archive right now and it’s such good motivation to hear someone else talk so highly of them!
Yeah I'm going through Stormlight again too. It's a big credit to these books that they're just as enjoyable, if not more, on the second read. It also helps that I'm not afraid of spoilers so I can dive deep into the coppermind and the 17th shard Roshar map without fear of being spoiled.
The Stormlight Archive is definitely one of those series that gets better the more you read. My second read-through in the lead-up to book 4's release was mind-blowing, because I had read the rest of the Cosmere at that point, so I noticed A LOT of references and easter eggs to the other books that went over my head the first time. And I also noticed a lot of foreshadowing that i had not noticed the first time as well. I'm now on my third read-through in preparation for book 5, and I'm still noticing things I didnt notice before. It's great
I think the best example is rereading the prologue of way of kings, I remember the first time I read it I was so confused and now most of it makes sense
i have never clicked on a video so fast! so excited to hear one of my favorite youtubers talk about one of my favorite book series. if you enjoy the worldbuilding and magic system in the Cosmere, i think you'd also like The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss. the first two books are The Name of the Wind and The Wise Man's Fear. unfortunately, the third book, Doors of Stone, has not been released yet. happy reading Jack!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I loved seeing how much they came from a place of passion. These books mean a lot to me as well so your enthusiasm was totally infectious.
Haven't watched Jack in years, very cool that he's colliding with my world years later. Could you imagine if he interviewed Sanderson or something, would be peak content. Also I think he'll like Mistborn, each book is half as long, so the pacing is definitely faster as well so it might Preserve his attention more effectively.
This is my fave series ever. I’m so excited you got into them! The audio books are fantastic, from someone who does not usually enjoy audio books narrators. People usually say to start with Mistborne but it’s much darker vibe wise. I started with Stormlight and devoured everything Cosmere after that
i read it once translated, then now reading it again in english. The attention to detailes is crazy, and the cosmere-wide detailes are what makes it pop for me.
This gives my inspiration about what i am writing and creating with my story and world. And Brandon Sanderson was the big first push for me to finally find my passion project that has been floating in my head for years. The world building is %80 finished and i only just started with the main story plot in that part of my world. I am glad to know people still love big epic fantasy stories with tons of world building and history for the reader to discover.
I’ve been coming back to this video because it’s so amazing to hear Jack’s views on what’s become my favourite book series of all time 🥹 I’m reading the books for the first time in preparation for book 5 coming out in Dec 🥰 I hope you give Mistborn a read too Sean, it’s a much smaller series & a bit of a step-down after Stormlight but still really cool!
I found that listening to the graphic audio for book 3 makes it soooooooooo much better. The boring parts seem less boring, you get through it faster, and the voice acting is phenomenal
For me, as heartless as it sounds, I love seeing these characters struggle. They literally fight on 3 fronts, mind body and soul to hold true to their convictions, their Ideals, and it's just so captivating to watch them pull through time and time again, regardless of their struggles.
I just finished doing a Stormlight reread and I am so so hyped for book 5! I also recommend going back and reading them again after you've read some of his other Cosmere stuff. It's been so interesting to pick up on the little tidbits and Easter eggs that I didn't understand the first time.
My "Airsick Lowlander" shirt I bought is my favorite shirt of all time. I'm excited to go through the series again before book 5 and it's really exciting seeing you dive into a series like this! Fingers crossed for you to read at least the first Red Rising trilogy! It's tied for 1st for my favorite series of all time. Cheers!
The thing i love most about Sandersons Cosmere books is that no matter what book you start with it's always worth re-reading it after reading some of the other books because EVERYTHING is connected and there are little secrets you don't understand until you read some of the other books. So if reading more is your goal, you certainly started with the right series. Knowing that, since you started with the Stormlight archive id recommend in no particular order, Mistborn Era 1, Warbreaker, Dawnshard, And Arcanum Unbounded, which is less of a novel and more of a collection of shorter stories which includes some from Stormlight and some from Mistborn so id read Mistborn first. Anyways, welcome to the Cosmere!
Yes!!! I heard you reference bridge 4 in the elden ring play through and I was so excited you started reading him too I’ve read his books for years, favorite author!
I'm fairly sure Shallan is best understood as someone dealing with CPTSD Having a friend who also struggles with that, I feel like it was a lot easier to understand and sympathize with how and why she'd react to things a certain way
That and Disassociative Identity Disorder, which is a condition which results from severe trauma and is possible to heal from but takes a huge amount of emotional work and time to do so and reintegrate parts etc. It would be much less realistic if she was able to magically heal that trauma and find all her alters in the course of 1-2 books.
I am a huge Sean fan and massive Sanderson fan. I have loved all of your references in your videos, has always filled me with joy when I caught them. So glad to finally get a video from you on them
My partner is who got me in to Sanderson!!! Even gifted me the Mistborn trilogy for Christmas a couple of years ago and it's been amazing!!! I haven't started Stormlight yet, but he gushes over it so much while we're playing FF 14 and such!!! I have enjoyed his stuff so much!!! I shared this video and he was so chuffed seeing that you love them too!!
Sanderson's books got me through the winter of 22-23, when my electricity was on for only a few hours a day due to russian bombings. Got through the entirety of Mistborn and SA back then. And when electricity troubles came back this summer I finished all of Sando's other books. They're all incredible in their own way, so I highly recommend them. I listened to the GraphicAudio versions of all the books that had those versions and they are INCREDIBLE. Their tagline of "a movie in your mind" could not be more true. It's audio theatre in the best way, with sfx, music, a huuuuge cast of VAs and it all comes together to truly create a movie in one's mind. Incredible stuff.
Oh man so glad to see some stormlight content! I read most of them so spread out that the details start to get lost on me so this was a nice refresher. Honestly for me everything to do with Maya and the "dead" shardblades is sort of the subdued peak of the entire series for me at the moment. I just really love their relationship with Adolin and all of the implications of that moment, pure chills fr.
i JUST finished my first read through of the whole series just this week, and I will absolutely admit i was swept away and completely engrossed with this series straight away as well. So awesome seeing this video pop up in my feed today haha
I think you will really end up enjoying Warbreaker and Elantris, they have less action but they have a lot of really well done characters. When I finished stormlight (I started with it too) I didn't think i would enjoy the rest of the cosmere because they are all slightly different genres. But they all drew me in the same way stormlight did. Some books wont be for you but I haven't read a cosmere book I didn't enjoy. And I think i speak for absolutely all of us when i say that we would love book reviews of any of his books or any other books you read and find special.
This video was such amazing timing for me, because I just finished book 4 as well! I don’t know anyone irl who have read them so I haven’t really been able to gush about them with anyone, so this kinda filled that hole for me. I basically agree with everything you said, you really put my thoughts into words perfectly. One thing I also love about this series is how it handles mental health, it’s done so realistically despite the fantasy setting and with so much respect, Kaladin has become very important to me because of it, I felt very heard I guess. I’m so so excited for book 5 and it would be lovely to hear your thoughts on it once you’ve read it. It’s nice to share the hype with someone! This series has meant a lot to me too so I was a little sad I couldn’t really share it with anyone, so this video was a fun watch :)
I love this channel lol feels like casually hanging out and discussing interesting things which is my bread and butter. If you’re in a Brandy Sandy phase, I suggest the Mistborn series. I think you’d like it, I love the world building in that series
I am so comforted that Oathrbinger was a general miss for you too. I read the first two SO quickly, and then slowed down to snail speed for Oathbringer.
It felt like the big reveal was forecasted so much that I didn't get hit very hard when it came up. It was still brutal, but the buildup just felt dragged out (for me)
@@jacksepticeye I agree. Before i started the series, a really good friend of mine said that Oathbringer was his favorite…Because of that, I started to gaslight myself into thinking the series was loosing its luster for me. Glad to report that wasn’t the case at all!
I really dug hearing your thoughts on this series. The books are absolutely phenomenal, and Brandon Sanderson creates an entirely new magic system every morning before breakfast. Thank you for sharing this! I doubt I'm alone in wanting to hear more Jack Book Thoughts.
Can confirm, the Stormlight Archive and Mistborn are the best fantasy books that I have ever read. They are arguably on par with the Lord of the Rings in terms of quality.
You are so lucky, Brandon Sanderson has been my favorite for a minute! Starting with elantris and warbreaker but oh my gosh if you like quick, fun reads while you wait for the 5th book the Alcatraz series that Sanderson writes is so much fun!
The Stormlight Archive is hands down mine and my husband’s favorite series we’ve ever read! We both related to several struggles of the characters, me with my mental health in particular. I swear, whenever I’m stuck in a bad place I can hear “You will be warm again.” That keeps me going. ❤️
It is always so exciting to hear someone talk about getting into the Cosmere. Sanderson is a brilliant author, and the entire Cosmere is incredibly fulfilling to read.
Omfg I am so happy to hear that one of my favorite creators reads this series. It is my absolute favorite series. I would also check out the Graphic Audiobook version of the series. Hands down the definitive way to get through the series
Life before death,
Strength before weakness,
Journey before destination
These words are accepted.
wouldn't "weakness before strength" make more sense?
@@MiraPacku Not in the intended context.
"All men are weak at some time in their lives. The Radiant protects those who are weak, and uses his strength for others. Strength does not make one capable of rule; it makes one capable of service."
It's about the Radiant literally letting their strength be attacked before the weakness of others is attacked.

I want a big budget television series just for that scene.
Definitely one of the S tier moments. Coupled with what follows right after makes it PEAK
I stood in front of these books at the store yesterday and just couldnt pull the trigger - might have to go back after this
EDIT: I’m about 150 pages into The Way of Kings, no regrets here.

Absolutely worth every second!!

That and the singular line:
"Teft. Knight Radiant." I screamed at that part.
So glad you're enjoying Stormlight. I preach its glories to everyone who will listen.
Also for Rhythm of War. I was really sleeping on a Bondsmith's power before that book. But that encounter with Ishar is SCARY.
Teft’s Oath was the first time I’ve fully cried reading a book ever.
God Dalinar walking out to face an army with just "the way of kings" in hand is a BAMF moment if I've ever seen one
It has some BIG moments but I honestly cant remember most of the book. I just zoned out for some reason. Seems to be a minority opinion though as many people love it.

It was fuckin sick
Bruh it’s the real one
I love Shallan’s character, the repressed trauma manifesting as innocence is so good. Couldn’t get enough of it
ye I love her too, always wondered why people hate her, her bad humor is hillarious
@@jacksepticeye ye, definitely, your position was fair, but she does face à lot of hate ^^

Just started my 3rd re-read in preparation for the 5th book!
Just with the caveat that we are seeing her story play out through Venli's eyes, because *spoiler*
Because in the modern story, Venli is still alive and Eshonai isn't. We have to be able to relate it back to a living character. Eshonai's story taking place is what Venli's present day story is building off of.
@@iOfTheStormm Oh I do agree that the focus is on Venli and Eshonai, I was just a bit confused as to why the title is a signifier;
also *spoiler* I totally forgot, but Eshonai attuned to the Rhythm of War when she was passing to the beyond, correct?

The heist part is technically only the first book. The second and third.... I don't want Ruin anything by giving away details.
@@crowthewicked8344I SEE WHAT YOU DID THERE! WELL PLAYED!
@@crowthewicked8344 wink wink *ruin*
Yes very true. Also, the Kandra are super interesting, I know he will dig them
My favorite RUclipsr talking about my favorite author and series.
It also helps that I'm not afraid of spoilers so I can dive deep into the coppermind and the 17th shard Roshar map without fear of being spoiled.
so nice to see others rereading them too!!^^
The Stormlight Archive is definitely one of those series that gets better the more you read.
“Preserve”…lmao
I’ve been coming back to this video because it’s so amazing to hear Jack’s views on what’s become my favourite book series of all time 🥹 I’m reading the books for the first time in preparation for book 5 coming out in Dec 🥰
I hope you give Mistborn a read too Sean, it’s a much smaller series & a bit of a step-down after Stormlight but still really cool!
Love seeing seàn talk abt his interests and things he enjoys
I found that listening to the graphic audio for book 3 makes it soooooooooo much better. The boring parts seem less boring, you get through it faster, and the voice acting is phenomenal
For me, as heartless as it sounds, I love seeing these characters struggle. They literally fight on 3 fronts, mind body and soul to hold true to their convictions, their Ideals, and it's just so captivating to watch them pull through time and time again, regardless of their struggles.
I mean, struggling is what good characters do. It’s very human and relatable.
I'm fairly sure Shallan is best understood as someone dealing with CPTSD
Having a friend who also struggles with that, I feel like it was a lot easier to understand and sympathize with how and why she'd react to things a certain way
That and Disassociative Identity Disorder, which is a condition which results from severe trauma and is possible to heal from but takes a huge amount of emotional work and time to do so and reintegrate parts etc. It would be much less realistic if she was able to magically heal that trauma and find all her alters in the course of 1-2 books.
Please do more videos like this, love hearing you talk about books!! ❤
I love that your into the stormlight archive, my favorite books!! I’m so jealous of that hard copy you got
I am a huge Sean fan and massive Sanderson fan. I have loved all of your references in your videos, has always filled me with joy when I caught them. So glad to finally get a video from you on them
jacksepticeye dipping his toes into the booktube world is what i need
Real
The crossover I didnt know I needed. Hearing Jack talk about my favourite books with such enthusiasm, like, hello?!!! Where has this been all my life!
Honor is dead, but I'll see what I can do
I am so comforted that Oathrbinger was a general miss for you too. I read the first two SO quickly, and then slowed down to snail speed for Oathbringer.
I think it depends on which characters and vibes you drift towards. Some people love the book and others hate it. Seems to be the most divisive one
It felt like the big reveal was forecasted so much that I didn't get hit very hard when it came up. It was still brutal, but the buildup just felt dragged out (for me)
@@psycholover414The Eila Stele?
Been waiting for this video since he referenced light eyes and ryshadium in his Elden Ring play through
Someone doesn't know how breaths work, lol... you've got a long way to go yet, Jack. Journey before destination.
It is always so exciting to hear someone talk about getting into the Cosmere. Sanderson is a brilliant author, and the entire Cosmere is incredibly fulfilling to read.
Jack ya need to check out the graphic audio versions of the Stormlight archive. They are movie quality audiobooks. Absolutely amazing
The duel scene is the greatest. "Honor is dead, but ill see what I can do"
Sit down everyone, lads about to tell us a good ol story.
Ultimate bonk build. Dual wielding Oathbringer and Rhythm of War.
Nope. Can't read.
Me when a RUclipsr is show to be a Cosmere Fan:
"There is another!!"
Totally would watch more book videos for books I’ve read. Always love hearing people talk about my favorite books.
Omfg I am so happy to hear that one of my favorite creators reads this series. It is my absolute favorite series. I would also check out the Graphic Audiobook version of the series. Hands down the definitive way to get through the series
