    Great little maintenance video on the nose gear on this. Nice greasy landings at least on those two grass ops flights!

    That was a good first landing! The second one too. I'd stay on the surface.

    Thanks for this. Many of us have crap fields so testing like this helps us immensely. :) - Lauren

    Gonna fly this bad boy tomorrow. Haven't been too successful with landings yet. Gotta get that CG right so the nose doesn't lift too much on the approach.
    Fixed the smashed main retracts using those from the BAE Hawk. Based on FMS model numbers, they're the exact same retract. Wohoo!!

    Thxs for info. Tamiya Thread lock can be used and is safe on plastic

    Those landings! How sweet!
    I did grass ops with the C130 today. Been doing great, but the last one just stuck as if I forgot to lower gear. Probably would have been better off in that type terrain. Only so strong.

    I'm a aircraft inspector, you the only person that recommended no to use loctite on plastic, and you are absolutely correct, loctite will destroy polymers over time.

    It looks like the front tire axle is directly under the strut. So it's just an Oleo, with no trailing link to absorb the aft forces when you hit a divit.

      Yep

    • @hifinsword

      Maybe a Freewing F-4 Phantom front retract or strut assembly would work?

  • @Sabotage_Labs
    @Sabotage_Labs 4 года назад

    The Eflite F16 strut pin is really weak too. They bend easy on a hard or bounce landing. Should have used a more resilient aluminum but..get why they didn't. They went on backorder so long I just figured out a method to straighten them by hand..lol. works fine.

    Dude you just don't lift do ya. That was frickin crazy. I thought for sure you would abort that take off. I would have and I'm RECKEM ROY. You are one determined pilot. That landing was perfect though yeah I think I would avoid the grass at least until it is smoothed out. Nice work Ryan 👍😎

    Silicone is good to use keeps them tight allows you to take them out if necessary .

  • @bgrant1512

    metal screws into plastic , put a little Elmer's glue on the threads. Wont loosen on its own and its not hard to get out if you need to.

  • @JimDieckow
    @JimDieckow 5 лет назад +1

    It looked like you were using Foamtac glue but not sure. There is another possibility for a thread lock on plastic. Several of us at my field have been using Pepto Bismol as a thread lock for a bunch of years on the full gambit of screws. I learned this as an assembly mech when in a bind on 24hr turnarounds for oil field equip

    I'm having gear issues on my Eflite Corsair. Had a real rough landing last year and one retract will go up but won't come back down. It sounds pretty rough going up, but to get it down, I have to hook up a servo tester to it and I can eventually get it to come down. Do you have any ideas if that's fixable? for now I'm just keeping them down and disabling the gear switch so I don't accidentally end up in the air with only 1 wheel to land on...

    • @hifinsword
      @hifinsword 5 лет назад +2

      I find landing with one gear down does less damage than sliding in on the belly and tearing up the gear doors. I would look at Freewing LGs and try to retrofit them instead of E-flite retracts.

  • @j1035ak
    @j1035ak 5 лет назад +1

    I have a question. What is the difference between the freewing f4, and this one?

    • @hifinsword
      @hifinsword 5 лет назад +1

      Four things come to mind. The front retract of the Freewing F-4 has both Oleo and Trailing Link components. When you hit a divit with TL, the wheel rotates aft instead of transferring the forces to the connecting pin. With just an Oleo strut the forces going aft against the strut, rips off or loosens the front retract as you see in this video of the E-flite F-4. Secondly, you can buy just the left or right main retract from Freewing, but with FMS-based E-flite models you have to buy the complete left and right retract as a set from HH or their associated stores.The FW F-4 is a 90mm EDF. The E-flite is an 80mm EDF. In size the E-flite is slightly smaller. In price they are very close. The only thing the E-flite F-4 has going for it is that it comes with the SAFE AR636 Rx. Both MotionRC and HorizonHobby have great customer service should you need it.

      @j1035ak 5 лет назад +1

      @@hifinsword thanks that helps a great deal. I think I'm going for the FW F4. I like the cockpit. It's more detailed.

    Hey guys! Sweet grass flight ops but OMG that first rollout was insane LOL! I thought for sure you were going to abort that takeoff crazy man, ha ha! Excellent flights and landings Ryan, she looked and sounded great! Very nice catch and landing gear maintenance as well. Awesome camerawork by Captain Mike as always as well! Like old school SNL (synchronized swimming skit) ... I'm not that strong of a windy flier (swimmer), pancaked the landing, collapsed the nose gear and the tiller arm as well! The gear servo popped back but chatters a little but works (replacing it) and like you straightened out the tiller arm and good to go! Thumbs up! Best regards to both and look forward to the pilots lounge tonight!
    Looks like the trolls and up to their thumbs downs are back, #$%@head haters!
