- This How to Improve Balance | Senior Exercises for Balance video features 9 exercises to prevent falls. These exercises for seniors over 50 are designed to strengthen your lower body muscles, including the glutes, hamstrings, calves, back, and abdominals, helping you stay steady on your feet.
This balance workout is structured to include a warm-up, the balance workout itself, and a cooldown. Consistency is key, so aim to perform this routine every day or at least twice a week to see improvements in muscle strength and agility, reducing the risk of falls-a leading cause of injury among older adults.
Doing the workout in your bare feet or socks will connect your feet to the floor providing added opportunities to strengthen your feet. If you need more support for your feet, feel free to wear shoes. Be near a countertop or sturdy chair or table for support.
We recommend doing balance work at least twice a week, everyday is even better! This one can be done by itself or added to your warm up or cooldown.

This seems a little too much for beginners. Amazing how the student was able to do so much at one time. I assume this was only one session.

I'm always amazed when I can see my progress in workouts. I remember doing your core exercise balance with cushions and struggling, this workout is a lot more challenging for me but the way my body is stronger and moves easier is incredible. Definitely need to try this one. I get a chuckle out of watching your mum and when she concentrates she sortve sticks her tongue out. My mum always did that when she had to concentrate, like threading a sewing needle. Brought back nice memories ❤

These videos are so well presented and really address such important aging issues, balance being one of the most important. I think that one very critical element of instruction is the emphasis of bilateral movement. Moving opposite arms is such a key element of balance. I definitely plan on watching this a couple of times a day because I am walking on lava rock and on irregular rocky surfaces that really require balance. Bending over frequently takes a lot of balance, as well.

In Tai Chi class today, I was really off balance. Kept falling to one side due to stroke I had in 2018. This will help (I hope) to improve my balance. Trying to be patient with myself but sometimes it does get frustrating. I managed these but had to hold onto a chair, too. Sigh....

@@yes2next I fully intend to. 🥰 I even sent my mother & my aunt (both with very impaired movement & balance issues) the link to your channel last week so they can pick something they want to try. My aunt (the one with crippling inertia) managed to do 1 of the videos near the top of your page on Saturday. 💓 My mother is more nervous (she's basically a cripple who can walk very carefully), but I've directed her to some of the more gentle stuff & reminded her she doesn't have to be intense, just try her best to imitate the seated motions. For me it's knee & back issues, with inertia, so I was super happy when I discovered both of you (Mochi was the cherry on top). Panda (my cat) says Hi, back! 😸

I just recently found your videos. I intend to try to incorprate some of them into a short, easy work out. I am 70 and have severe spinal stenosis and degenerative arthritis and disk disease in my spine. I have become very sedentary due to the weakness and pain in my back. As a result, I have put on weight and developed a belly. I can only stand a few minutes at a time and walk very short distances before needing to sit. Can you do a video for people like me? I don't want to have to go back to PT or hydrotherapy again. Can you help?

Nice balance workout. Is there a substitute for heel raises? I have a bunion on my right foot and it hurts the joint when I bend it. Thanks!
Hi there! We hear you about the bunion. Here are a couple of alternatives to heel raises --- both can be done seated: 1) Toe taps: Stand or sit in front a step or other stable platform; Raise your right foot and tap it on the step/platform. Then, return your right foot to the floor and repeat with the left side. Aim for 10 reps each foot. 2) Gentle heel raises: Sit in a chair; place a pillow under your feet and lift heels has much as you can. Our hope is that you can gently engage the calf muscles without affecting the bunion. We hope these alternatives are helpful. ❤️
