50 Minute Cardio & Strength Workout | Get 2500 steps & build muscle | Seniors, beginners

  • This workout will improve your cardiovascular system, build muscle, and enable you to log at least 2500 steps! You’ll also improve your balance and coordination. There are two sets of 10 exercises: 5 cardio exercises and 5 strength exercises that will build muscle in your legs, arms, back, shoulders, and core. You will do each set 3 times! Each exercise is 30 seconds with 20 seconds of rest. My mom does this one standing, but it can be done in a chair, too!
    Weights such as dumbbells, water bottles or cans can be used for the strength exercises. To build muscle, it’s important to have some resistance. In this video, April uses 3 pound, 5 pound and 8 pound weights. Her mom uses a 2 pound weight or no weights.
    Below are the exercises in this workout. ❇️ are cardio moves and 🔹 are strength moves.

    ❇️ Heel touch/side and front arm raises
    ❇️ Step forward/back with overhead arms
    🔹Overhead press
    🔹Row with tricep kickback
    🔹Upright row
    🔹Shoulder extension
    🔹Stir the pot
    Exercise Set #2
    ❇️ Diagonal step back/arms up
    ❇️ Step touch with rainbow arms
    ❇️ Step back with arms up
    ❇️ Heel touch with reverse arm circles
    ❇️ Grapevine with arms up
    🔹Row with palms up
    🔹Side steps with 2 weights
    🔹Bicep curl
    🔹Press out
    🔹Goal post arms in and out

    Last day of November, just finished the 50 minute exercise and feel great. I will be 72 in January, this is the best I have felt since 2017 when I started one of two different cancer treatments. Trying to do anything was a struggle. COVID lockdown stopped me from even walking through our Walmart. I started on November first and have worked out everyday. I am blessed to have found you both and your programs. 💕

    I LOVE this workout. I start with your AARP Balance and Stretch workout then I do this one. I Vote for more long combo strength and cardio workouts please!! Thanks for helping me stay fit.     I am 73, your workout gives me a way to get some good cardio. Because of my painful knee I just modify some of the moves. Thank you so much and a big shout out to your mom. She encourages us seniors and I really like her sense of humor.

    I kept moving, completed your 50 minute cardio & strength workout ! Have to say , you couldn't be better instructors because I have never enjoyed exercising but somehow it feels nothing like exercise & yet somehow I'm fully involved receiving all of the benefits along with enjoyment .     Absolutely love your workouts, and the banter between you and mum! My daughter has said that you are a reflexion of us with mum and daughter exercise together and chat ! She is the chatterbox, I just want to exercise!
    I love that you give alternative ways to do a move, I have had a knee replacement plus major foot surgery all on my left knee/foot, so no longer can do floor work so showing how to do those moves against the wall is genius!!
    Keep on with these lovely cheery classes I really look forward to them thank you

    OMG this is excellent we're in Denver, CO for 5 week to help taken care of a grandson going to be born on Friday2-3-2023, And can't going out for a walk with one digit weather, your video is a big help especially 50 minute enjoy every minute of it.     This was the hardest one I've done to date, but I am always encouraged by Iko and April's banter and telling me I'm doing a good job. I love that Iko pats herself on the shoulder and I'm doing that now, too. It's wonderful to be able to "pull up" my two good neighbors, Iko and April. Presto! They are right here in my living room. If I feel I just can't get it together, I just pull up the ten minute all around video (which is my staple) and tell myself, "Come on, girl, you can do anything for ten minutes." This flips the switch for me. Thank goodness for the two of them!

    I really like this exercise. Longer, but not too long. Cardio and weight training combined in one segement. Hope the work out makes a difference. Thanks for taking the time to show the exercises. I am not sure how much work one has to do to see a difference, building muscles, bones.

    Thanks April and Aiko! It’s been just over six weeks since my surgery and the doctor has given me permission to walk and exercise gently on my feet. Last night I did the plus minus walking dance and had a ball. Today,I did this video, no jumping for me not for quite a while, but oh, it was so good to stand up and exercise even though I went much more gently than sitting in the chair. It felt so much better, thanks for hanging in there while I healed. The doctor is amazed how fast I healed, and I credit it to exercise. Because although I wasn’t really walking, I was moving it I was moving it and moving blood through it and it healed so fast. Thank you, thank you!

    I like this series very much. I have frozen shoulder. The arm movements help me a lot. Love the clock as well. When I feel cannot do a ymore the clock keeps me going. Thank you

    I love this longer workout. I have also done a couple of yours recently where you show ways of making each move more challenging. Thank you for this. So many workouts for seniors seem to assume that we can only manage very gentle movements and very short sessions. Well ok, some days that's true actually! But most days I do an hour, so I look for the longer sessions. And I love the ones where I can either pick an intermediate version that you do, or work from a chair like your mum does, and sometimes it varies from move to move within the workout, depending on how this old body is feeling that day! Thanks to you and your mum for everything that you do.

    Wonderful , wonderful, I am now getting ready for my Sunday Love of exercise. With weights. I can never believe how wonderful you two great people are! So forgive me as I am now a real Fan of Love! I never felt love but through the love you have shown made my mother - law heart felt. How can you mother do this and maybe a 70 minute work out who am I. I felt worthless and I am worthless but Someone cares - April and Aiko and my mother in law and those who love me that I love. Thanks. So I will use the Energizer first to get happy and warmed up. Thanks again!!! You see I can be stupid and I love being imperfect just like Brene' Brown says.

    I just finished. I didn’t think your workout would do much, but it did. I am really sweating 😓 Your mom is hilarious 😂 l love 💕 it when she tells you that you are showing off. Too funny. I am 68. I have diabetes, and neuropathy in my feet and toes. I think if l can do this workout anyone can. If your mom can do it anyone can!! NO EXCUSES lol. Thanks 😊 l love your workout. Some workouts are too intense. My sister and sister in law really hurt their knees from intense working out!! When you get older you have to be careful!!

      Hubby bought me 8 lb weights for Christmas. I already have 3 & 5 lb ones. I've been using them. They 8's were tough at the beginning but the weights are great! I'm still being cautious with them. Thank you! 😍@@yes2next

True, I don't feel stronger, my leg neuropathy doesn't get better, but for me it's about how I feel afterward--better mood, a sense of calm, ready to do something.     Love love this workout. My second day in a row doing it! I love that we get our cardio and strength training all in one! I also noticed that I had much better form today.     Thank you for this workout. I used baby weights - 170g tomato paste cans - but plan to increase gradually. It took me a year to heal from a shoulder injury and I want to strengthen my shoulders along with the rest of my body.

      I had a shoulder injury as well and understand it takes time to heal and strengthen. No weights or light weights are best for the shoulders, particularly as you recover -- tomato paste cans are a good choice! Love that you are focused on increasing shoulder and overall body strength.     I actually kept up & finished!! I’m using 3lb weight. Started with 1lb in March and progress to 3lb last month. Following your videos has inspired me to keep fit. Thank you so much April & Mom Aiko (if she can do it, I can too). Can you explain when to inhale & exhale during exercising. I’m a beginner.

      Wonderful! Congratulations on your progress! 👏 You're getting stronger!! During strength training, inhale on relaxation and exhale during exertion (So for a bicep curl, exhale as you lift the weight and inhale as you lower the weight). For cardio, you generally breathe in and out through the nose or, when intensity ramps up, through the mouth. Keep up the great work! See you soon! 😊

      Yes..Fiora thk u for bringing up the breathing during exercise. Always forget the sequence of breathing.. really hope April can remind us, by calling out the breathing will be good. Appreciate it.
