Aloha ReWildYourSoul, thank you for so many helpful videos & informative content. I’m an old beach drummer, djembes & djun djuns. During Covid I practiced isolationism, and stopped playing at our Maui beach drum circles for over a year. During that time, I purchased four Rav Vast, direct. 1st a D-Major, 2nd a G-Pygmy, 3rd an E-Low Pygmy, and 4th a B Kurd. Thought I was done, but Rav just had a big 7th BD sale, & I ordered my 1st handpan a D Hijaz. I watched your D Hijaz videos, which I appreciate. I love the ease of the Vasts, the sturdy nature, and the vibrational sounds. I’m a little worried the handpan will be much more difficult to play, but believe it holds different sounds, & will allow more off note sounds than the heavier Vasts. I picked the D Hijaz for the huge 30% sale price, but also thought it would fit with my Vast collection. My Question is for you & your style, if you only had a single pan, what handpan would fit your needs or style??? Mahalo…..
Hey there! That is a good question. I think if I only had one handpan scale, I would choose either Kurd or F Low pygmy, as these provide much variety and chordal potential. For most players, writing songs is not the goal, so more limited scales are not an issue. That said, they all have their time and place! Great questions! :)
Mahalo, Mahalo, Mahalo…….. Appreciate your reply, in depth answer, and for your passion that shines bright. Blessings & Aloha to you & yours……. @@ReWildYourSoul
Please write out the maker of the instrument you demonstrated shoulder tone harmonics on - something Dimano, perhaps (8:00 minutes). It would be great to know all the makers. Thank you for sharing your genius in the brilliant performance demonstrations.
Can u share a link to the handspan on 5:21? This is definitely without a doubt the pan for me. I did try to find it but I couldn’t. That would be really appreciated, thank you already
@@ReWildYourSoul Thank you so much for the fast reply!! This instrument is truly beautiful, so ethereal. Im searching for ethereal music for hours but its so hard to find it. Especially this kind of handspan music it really makes me feel some type of way, a mystical kind of vibe. Sometimes I feel like this music is tuning in with your own vibration. One question, did u listen to Aria Math by C418 and could you tell me if u like it? I’m really interested in your opinion about it.
@@KnightTwilightV yes! Classic Minecraft music I really like that track .🎶🔑 they are magical instruments and I hope you get to play one someday my friend!
As someone who is looking and saving up for one. I Personally settled with stainless steel at 7:20 . I love the clear rich tone it gives and its a very warm feeling. As far a what scale to buy, i have a RAV Vast Steel drum in D Celtic minor. So if i did get a hand pan, it would be nice to switch it up. Do you have any recommendations for other scales for beginners ? 🙂
Definitely harmonic minor, Onoleo, Hijaz, Romanian Hijaz etc have that flavor. All depends on the sound you are looking for. Godan would be a great place to start,a s well as Ravpan Romanian Hijaz!
Great info! Been quite a few years since I first saw a handpan. They seemed to be only available to someone who could travel to Europe to purchase one. Awesome to see how much both the instrument and playing has advanced since then....Thanks!
Thanks for the important information. I am a 70 yrs old , like to hear soothing meditational music . Recently I came across hand pan music on U tube . I have liked it and want to buy my first hand basic pan and learn how to play . I stay in coastal high humidity area prone to rusting . Please advise
Thank you so much for this video...could you please offer a couple names of makers in the US who offer handspans for $1000 to $2000 range? I can’t seem to find any that have a good reputation 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I love the softer more meditative sounds and wispers of the stainless, as I love sounds that transport me, elevate me, inspire me and perhaps even, guide me. Since I am a complete novice at this, I would love to have an idea of what would be the price of a good quality-price, stainless one. Would you please let me know and also give me the name/make, purchasing location/store, etc. I appreciate you taking a moment to answer my questions, specifically! May the best come to you!💝
Ahhh I want one so bad I got to play one a few days ago it was the first I’d ever head of them and omg I’m in love! I play guitar and bass (semi-professionally) and I want one of these handspans so bad. Maybe a couple different scales. Can’t afford one at the moment lol
Hey my friend! You would pick it up pretty fast, if you have a melody/ chordal background like me! There are a few makers, Aura Handpans and Iskra Handpans, that are making instruments under 1k right now. BOth high quality. Rav vasts are a great alternative as well, ranging from 650 used to around 7-800. Durable and professional as well. Good luck on the journey my friend, and Hope you have one in your lap soon! Ricky
beautiful to listen to and love your mad-as skills :) But a wee tip for when doing a comparison - ALWAYS compare apples with apples - i.e. play the same tune on each different hand pan so that we can hear how the same tune sounds different.
Agreed! It just doesn’t quite work like that on these, as they are all different scales/ notes !😉 It would be like changing the tuning of a guitar and trying to use the same chord positions. Thanks so much for you kind words as well!🙏🌞🎶
@@ReWildYourSoul Each instrument has unique stories to tell that just come out if you allow them to speak. They all have their individuality and simply encourage you to play differently. I have had several guitars. Some very expensive and some very inexpensive.......If they are able to play in tune (To Me Anyway) then they let me know what to play....I would not necessarily have composed the same composition on another guitar. For me..tone is everything.... Love your playing by the way and attention to detail...refreshing !
I like that on too. I'm in my 60s, researching for my first hand pan. Until now I focussed on a d minor amara, but after hearing this one I realise I need to enquire more.
Thanks Ricky! I've read that handpans require quite a bit more care in handling than, let's say, a RAV Vast, and it's possible for the instrument to go out of tune if played too hard or handled improperly. While we know that the different materials affect the timbre of the sound, how do the different materials affect the overall tuning stability of the instrument? Is one more likely to remain in tune over another given the same care and playing style? A handpan is likely my next hand percussion instrument, and I want to make sure I get it right the first time. It takes too long to save for something like this to screw it up ;) Thanks for the post, take care my friend! Stay safe, healthy and happy!
Handpans definitely require a different care ritual than a Rav or other Tongue drums! For me, I have really never had issues with tuning. For example, RavPan from 2018 is still perfectly in tune. It all really depends on how you strike and treat the instrument. I am going to be starting a podcast soon and interviewing some makers, so that may be useful in hearing more about he process directly from them! For me, stainless is one of my favorite materials, but I am a sucker for sustain, 🤷♂️. I also love the sound of raw steel as we’ll so it’s a hard choice! If you find one you like and want a second opinion, be in touch 🙏
@@ReWildYourSoul Thanks Ricky, great info, I love sustain as well. Given this will be my first handpan, I think I may look for something more in the middle of the road, something that will lend itself to both slow and faster pieces. That new podcast sounds like it will be great, can't wait. I'll definitely be in touch prior to making my final decision. Thanks!
The low end of the market seems to have come down to the USD $450 range. I’m expecting an Amazon delivery this afternoon. I expect it to be good enough to learn on and to satisfy my instrument collecting urge. Since I am not a performer, I don’t expect to need a high end instrument, Although I am already slightly envious of the greater range I’m seeing in some RUclips videos. The one I picked is 9 notes in a D minor Kurd tuning, not that I have any clue about the difference in Kurd vs Celtic vs whatever else is available tuning.
Hey brother! Yes the ones on amazon are sometimes tuned, but it’s really a longevity thing. Makers who are familiar with the building process can assure they stay in tune and hold their sharp well. Some of that market is ok, some meh. That said, I have tried instruments from many makers and even the “low end” ones can be nice! Regardless, you will love it! If you are in the market for lessons when it arrives, be in touch! 🙏
You used the Hang for comparison several times, but you never showed us what it sounds like. I happen to live near Saraz, so case closed for me. One of the best.
Excellent video Ricky! I hope to have a handpan sometime next year. I've got one maker in mind right now. I'm a heavy handed player when I get jamming so nitrated might be my best bet. One thing is for sure, you can never have too many RAVs or Handpans.
It’s funny, even handpan don’t follow their own rules sometimes haha. The handromeda Pan, which is raw steel, is super stable. Some of it is just how skilled or in what way a tuner approaches making the instrument! As long as they are focused on stability, the material only really matter for care and tonal reasons. 😉 I am sure you will love whatever you get! Let me know if you want a second opinion when the time comes to getting one!
interesting, the first Nitrided sounds so good, the Raw has too much high freq resonance which can be problem of the recording the micropjhone placement etc but hurts my ears
Interesting! I find the opposite, Raw steel has a warmer less metallic tone in studio setting, and stainless is the one, for me, that needs the erratic frequencies tamed. Nitrided, in general, has too much finger noise for my taste, but this F pygmy Ravpan is perfect. This is recorded and mixed with equipment I trust, but feel free to check out my studio albums as well for a more precise representation of the sound! rewildyoursoul.hearnow.com/lunaria

Would you be able to provide a link for the one at 3:48 ? I love that one.
Hey there! In the pinned top comment. :)
@Handromeda Handpan
Please write out the maker of the instrument you demonstrated shoulder tone harmonics on - something Dimano, perhaps (8:00 minutes). It would be great to know all the makers. Thank you for sharing your genius in the brilliant performance demonstrations.
All the makers are in the topped pin comment already ! That one was a SonidoDeMano
Can u share a link to the handspan on 5:21? This is definitely without a doubt the pan for me. I did try to find it but I couldn’t. That would be really appreciated, thank you already
Hey! The times and instrument date pinned in the first comment! This one is an F Pygmy RavPan. One of my favorites too!
What was the one at 7:07? I love it and would love to purchase it!
This is a Novapan Gen 7 D amara/ Celtic 🎶
This was so needed by a lot of people I'm sure and so helpful! Thank you.
my pleasure!
Wow, u get down on those! Great sounds and rhythm.
Thanks my friend!
Yes! Stainless is a great choice. Kurd, and Pygmy scales are great. If you are in the market do a stainless pan, I have a few available!
@@ReWildYourSoulHi bro
Am looking to buy a handpan. Please guide me brand name.
Great video, thank you. What maker and scale would you recommend for playing middle eastern sounds?
Definitely harmonic minor, Onoleo, Hijaz, Romanian Hijaz etc have that flavor. All depends on the sound you are looking for. Godan would be a great place to start,a s well as Ravpan Romanian Hijaz!
Great info! Been quite a few years since I first saw a handpan. They seemed to be only available to someone who could travel to Europe to purchase one. Awesome to see how much both the instrument and playing has advanced since then....Thanks!
Glad it was useful my friend!
Thanks for the important information. I am a 70 yrs old , like to hear soothing meditational music . Recently I came across hand pan music on U tube . I have liked it and want to buy my first hand basic pan and learn how to play . I stay in coastal high humidity area prone to rusting . Please advise
Thank you! This was very helpful!
Very informative video Ricky! You Congrats for the initiative. You’ve transmitted the content very clearly and relevant way.
Good! I look forward to interviewing you soon so we can talk even more about the details! 😉🙏
Handromeda Handpan I tried to be as neutral as possible 😂
Thank you so much for this video...could you please offer a couple names of makers in the US who offer handspans for $1000 to $2000 range? I can’t seem to find any that have a good reputation 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Aura, symphonic steel, DII are al, great ones in that range!
May the best come to you!💝
Good advice. Thanks!
:)
great video thank you. I really liked one of the ones you featured here. Looking for my first purchase.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Ricky
Thank you very much for these very helpful advices 🙌👍👍
My pleasure and glad it helped!
super information expertly presented...
Glad it was useful 🎶🙏 I appreciate the kind words!
Thanks man. These handpans are amazing and now I know what they can cost and what to look for. Your collection must be worth over twenty grand$$$
Thankfully it is what I do for a living. Well endowed with instruments, but not so much monetarily! Glad to enjoy the video my friend!
beautiful to listen to and love your mad-as skills :) But a wee tip for when doing a comparison - ALWAYS compare apples with apples - i.e. play the same tune on each different hand pan so that we can hear how the same tune sounds different.
Agreed! It just doesn’t quite work like that on these, as they are all different scales/ notes !😉 It would be like changing the tuning of a guitar and trying to use the same chord positions. Thanks so much for you kind words as well!🙏🌞🎶
Very informative. Thank you so much.
Glad to help!
What a great insight.........It's all about preference and style as in any instrument.....
Agreed my friend! Thanks for listening 🎶🙏🔥🌙
I really like the brass coated nitrided steel one
Agreed! That is an F Pygmy!
I like that on too. I'm in my 60s, researching for my first hand pan. Until now I focussed on a d minor amara, but after hearing this one I realise I need to enquire more.
Amazing video!!! Thank you for sharing!
Absolutely! Hope it was helpful for you!
It takes too long to save for something like this to screw it up ;)
Thanks for the post, take care my friend!
Thanks!
really really really nice, really good. Thank you very so much. Super appreciate , man. TAmo junto, blessings
Thank you very much for your helpful post.
Really glad I was useful! There is a list pinned on the top of the comments with the makers featured!
Fantastic video. Informative, succinct, and lovely to listen to.
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Would love to hear your take on the RavPan E La Sirena!!
Coming in a month or so ;)
In my hands now, so coming this week! :)
First one is my favorite. I want to buy one.
My top comment has all the makers and time stamps 🎶😉
thank you for the video im looking into buying one :)
My pleasure!
@@ReWildYourSoul Thanks Ricky, I'll touch base with you on that for sure.
The one that resonates with me is the first one you played
:)
interesting, the first Nitrided sounds so good, the Raw has too much high freq resonance which can be problem of the recording the micropjhone placement etc but hurts my ears
Wow you really made my day !
Do you you know any shop in Canada where I can try them in person ? I’m still trying to figure out which one is the best suited for me !
Keep up the good work ! You just won a subscriber :)
I can recommend Peace handpans and panacea Sonora/ Boreal handpan in canada!
What a interesting video and sympathic man!
🙏🎶
Hi 👋, you're truly talented, blessed. It was great listening to you. The peace that a handpan brings is also in your personality and voice. Thank you for putting this video together. I was hoping to hear from you about a few brands that a beginner can look into. Like you said, each one's preference is different but for a starter, how do we go about exploring the handpans. Do you have a video or know someone who has that you can point me to. I would love to learn about makers and hear the instruments so I can pick one. Thank you again for such great advice and for taking the time to read my comment.
Hey there! Right in the pines first comment I have all the names of the mallets and time stamps as well 🙏 if you came films that, I can work them here as well! Glad it helped!
Great video. I have decided to go with a stainless for my first hand pan. Who is the maker of the one at 7:07? I love the tone on that one. Thank you.
Dude! Your so dope man! Sh⁸ts beautiful! Never seen any of those drums before. Dope sh⁸t.
Thanks man! It’s an amazing world Of instruments out there! Welcome! 🎶🙏🔥🌿👁
@@ReWildYourSoul , I'm entering that world on Sunday when Amazon ships me some sleel tounge drum to start. I would really like to get a hand pand or obe of your RAVs but they are pricey and Idk enough about it all to drop more then a hundred into it. Are the price ranges for both usually between 600 to 2000 bucks? I need a panhand on a pan handlers budget, lol!
Excellent advice, thank you
Really love the sound of the Raw steel one, thanks for this showcase! Any tips on where i could find one of decent quality? Exactly the same one if possible 😂
@handromeda handpan would be the place to go for that one! Vitor is an amazing maker in Brazil
nicely done my friend - thank you
Thanks buddy!
Great advice thank you ❤️
Glad to help Dani! 🎶🙏🔥
SUPER HELPFUL Thank you so much :)
Loved your video thank you for all the great info. I loved the Dmar none chrome stainless steel sound very much. I’m looking to buy my first handpan. What maker do you recommend for this type? I have limited budget. Thank you so much🙏
Hey! SonidoDeMano handpans are amazing! They run around 1100 to 1700, so may be a bit expensive. As an alternative, Rav Vast’s are beautiful as wel!
The gold color one the d amara sp* Celtic is that the actual name? I love the sound to that one.
You got it! D Celtic or D Amara are the common names for that version of the D minor scales. This particular one is Stainless steel Gen 7 Novapan. 🙏🎶
The steel sounds incredible
Scratch that they all sound good 😅
Agreed!
Thank you for the info!
No prob jason!
