lol….my first thought was “Ouch” ….and then you started playing. Dang dude … you can even make a poorly tuned pan sound good!! Interesting video …. Thanks for the share!
Well put! That said, even not so great pans can make music! Fun to explore and share some of the products students are asking me about! Thanks for watching 🙏🎶
My daughter and I bought a coupla cheapies from eBay and Temu. One was definitely better tuned than the other, but they were absolutely fabulous to learn on. We had no fear of damaging a very expensive drum when trying out more aggressive percussive styles, and we have had some awesome fun trying out different stuff and learning new things. That being said, all the while we were saving for better instruments and finally invested in some quality handpans and tongue drums. I know many would say you should buy the absolute best instrument you can afford, but a good drum is a big investment and if you’re not even sure handpans are your thing, definitely have a crack on one these cheaper handpans. They are also good for young ones to have a go on too … 😁
Wow, to my untrained ear with hand pans this sounds pretty good, but you are also a very experienced hand pan player. 👏🔥💯🙏🤩 Could you recommend a reasonably priced hand pan for beginners please? Do you have a video that I could watch ? 🙏
Going through the notes one-by-one, I winced at a couple of them, but your playing is definitely still pleasant. I think that's more a testament to your skill than to the interest. Maybe not a bad investment for someone who isn't really sure they want a handpan but wants to try one out.
Nah i believe people here are too picky. For the price sounds pretty good considering what a good quality one cost. Wont do a c9ncert with it but to chill and play is good enough
Wow absolutely agreed. I’ve looked at saving for a good one since 2019. It’s almost 2024 and I still cant save more than $300 at a time. I’m glad I came across this. Talented player and comprehensive, intelligent, relatable review. I’ve noticed a great musician can make any instrument sing. The only caveat involves where/why the musician is playing. If it’s out camping with friends or kids, this fits the setting better; making a RUclips channel and/or playing professionally, this would be an absolute mockery of a quality pan’s existence. Thanks for sharing!
I was eyeballing one of the temu pans even though I have a Rav Vast. I do volunteer work with children as well as hospice. They always want to try playing, which I absolutely encourage! And there is always some anxiety around damaging my Vast. I think something like this would be a great compromise to let people play in without potentially accidentally damaging my personal drum. Thanks for the review! Always love your content and grooves!
Thankfully, aside from the coating, the Rav is indestructible! 😉🎶 I do think as a cheap throw in the car or let people try instrument, it’s not too bad!
Maybe we can help you, because I come from the factory where this handpan is produced. This is just a very cost-effective handpan we produce for junior scholars. We also have very good quality and affordable prices.
That sounded amazing when you were playing it, that's incredible. Individual notes didn't sound that great as you were sampling them but when you played your song I could not tell the difference between this and a high price. That's crazy. 🙌
Agreed! For that price, an ok place to start. I think Ravs are a better deal, in terms of longevity, but would atleast give you an idea of how to play!
As some have already said, anyone who knows anything about hand pans knows they are rather expensive, ranging from $1000 and more. It all started with the hang drum from the Netherlands years ago, which was WAY out of my pocket range. Quality tongue/slit drums are also expensive. This sounds pretty good to me.

Was thinking about getting the 12-note handpan Temu has on there now. I don't really want to dish out the cash for a more quality one.. Even on Temu it's still more than i'd like to pay for a drum.. Haha since i'm just not a regular player and just want to mess around. Thanks for the review
I looked through your videos & dont see it. Thanks for doing these videos BTW. Can you point to handpan manufacturers/models to consider based on price? Another words 'Best handpan forr $500', 'Best $1000 handpan', 'Best $3000 handpan', 'Best $25,000 handpan!!', etc. I'm looking for my first and there's a lot of choice now for the +/- $1000 range. I'm tone deaf so listening to differentiating videos on the sound differences of different handpans in different keys is minimally effective for me. Truth is, I'm feeling a little anxiety about spending this money on a "luxury item", while being sure I have something that's a long-term value. Another video idea?? 'How to purchase a handpan when you're tone deaf'!! Thanks, great work here. Phil
Yeah well it doest sound too bad and i can't afford 2 grand +,, I'm a pianist and drummer and I've always wanted one, you're clearly a wonderful musician yourself 💜🎼🎹🎼
I got a G minor 9 note Temu handpan for $150. It's definitely worth trying if you're interested in this instrument. Why pay near $1k or way more to let it sit there?
Something to let others try and not your premium one. I don’t have a HandPan yet but I have a Rav Vast. Someday I hope to own a good quality one though. Thanks for reviewing Ricky, this is good to know. 7:51 🤗
FInally! I see the notes of the handpan that I bought. Yes. It was from Temu. Mine seems more in tune than yours but I wanted to know what tuning style it is (kurd, pygmy, etc). I can’t find any tuning models that list my notes which are what you posted. This has made it impossible to play along with tutorials but intuitively it works fine for me as a beginner.
I'm sure you've seen it before yourself, there's a pan that only has 5 notes and isn't tuned at all for about 250$ I'm pretty sure, this is definitely not bad for the price.
Agreed! I saw Davis Beery try to tune one of those. Fo what it is, not bad, but not great. That said, if I was broke and really really wanted one, I would go for it!
Where Can i find This one to This price… would love to have a handpan again for the 10’th of What i have paid before… im broke now and have grotten rid of my handpans unfortunately. … but This wouldnt be so costly!!!
Whats the least youd pay for a great one tuned 100% properly and no note bleed between notes i want a high quality one, i may pay close to a grand but idk how much more id be able to afford tho but i want a great long lasting one to learn on to help release stress the sound of these pans and hang drums out there is so calming. I want one perfectly tuned to the different hertz that resonate with our human bodies like the 432hz. Also i would love to know a great sight to find em. Id love to get one from the original origin they were invented in to be honest if possible.
I'm surprised mostly that you even received it from temu, regardless of quality. The benefit of having absolutely no musical ability whatsoever, is that that song sounded good to me.
Well the player is 75% of the sound 😉 A good player can extract something beautiful from all quality pans. In general, “better” quality pans often make it easier for players to get a clean sound and experience. That said, even this could be workable, but is never going to sound like a 1k pan. That said, it works!
Fur den preis klingt sie recht passabel. Zum üben für einen Anfänger völlig ausreichend. Als Anfänger kann man eh noch nicht so gut beurteilen welche handpan dann im Endeffekt seinem hörgeschmack entspricht.
Ohh you need to ship it back for retuning? That’s ok, have at it with your handpan! Punch, jump on and drop kick the handpan to compress it into the smallest size possible to save on shipping 😀
What a weird pan 😂 it's better than i would expect for 140$ but indeed wouldn't recommend buying it. Funny to see that if you block the octave of the center note it doesn't sound like anything really 😂
I'm very poor. Lost all my musical equipment tragically years ago. I'm now been wanting a handpan for years but cant afford one. So I may just get me one of these.
I have wanted to play the handpan for years, but haven’t had the money for it. Of course I can save up for an expensive one, and I’m not comfortable buying the very cheapest because I want a bit more quality so I don’t lose motivation. What are some that you suggest in the ~$500 range? How many notes or in which key is good to start with? I have experience with playing other instruments so I’m not new to music, just the handpan 🥲
To an amateur like me, it still sounds pretty good for $140.
Especially if you don't have two grand for a real one.
Agreed. Thought for just a bit more, there are some good options!
two grand? in germany its more 3.5 to 5 grand....
@@F-Andre how unfortunate! Prices vary wildly.

Heyyy, thanks for this video! Helped a lot. I just have One question. Do you think would be better pay like $350 and get a 432hz one?
I don't have a musical bone in my body but I could vibe with that as a beginner.
Still sounds amazing.
You made that wall hanging sound great for what it is! Nice.
Thanks man! The player can make even a not ideal pan sound great!

Do you have a recommendation for an affordable handpan with acceptable quality for beginners?
I can hear how it is out of tune in note bleed but you still make it sound wonderful!
Thanks my friend!
