Nice presentation, and sort of unemotional and factual comparison, leaving the choice up to the individual, without making one seem "better" than the other...
Everyone has their preferences. Personally, I like the sound of the RAV better. One thing not mentioned in the video is you sometimes have to be careful if playing a handpan in a sunny area. As the metal heats up it expands and can throw the instrument out of tune ( till it cools back down ). With a RAV you really don't have to worry about it ever going out of tune.. Just something to consider
I think I prefer the RAV as well. To me it sounds very relaxing and just as beautiful! Also the fact that it doesn't need to be tuned was a bonus in my head, especially after watching how handpans have to be tuned.
Thank you so much for talking about the RAV. I also own the Pentatonic scale. I have rheumatoid arthritis. So I will order a set of their mallets. I’ve tried without but I don’t have enough strength in my hands.
Mallets are a great way to go. You may also want to check out the mallet harp as it is much easier to play with mallets: ruclips.net/video/dPpIKoJqsPk/видео.html

i love the rav drum, my dad does a workshop at local festivals where he sells them and kinda teaches people how to play. he just sits out on his chair playing until while waiting for people to come over and investigate. the virus has canceled all the festivals so we have like 30 of them in the house. he makes them in two sizes, large and then a smaller one (for the kids, or if you just want a higher pitch).
I get the rav's idea but the handpan to me has such a more natural sound than the almost mechanical sound to the rav. Even the overtones still don't resonate naturally like the hand pan does. The handpan has a smoother sound to me all together.
If you play a RAV less like a drum and more like you would play on a piano, hitting it with only the flesh of your fingertips and mainly on the end of the steel tongues the sound can be much more smooth and natural than demonstrated in this video where it is played more percussively. It also really depends on the model and series, when i compare the older RAV models in the same scale with newer ones they do sound very different and have other sound properties (i think the metallic sound is'nt as noticeable in newer models). I do like both though. In my opinion handpans have these deep hard hitting resonance on the root note to them and RAVs have this watery long slow buildup of resonance.
Thank you so much for sharing this video and the links to purchase! I have been dying to purchase a handpan for years. I am so fascinated and intrigued with this instrument. Yes, the handpans require regular maintenance tuning if they are played with force. Gentle playing should not take them out of tune, so it is possible to own a handpan and not need to get it tuned up. The RAV Drums almost always stay in tune except for in the case of extreme force being applied. Cheers!
the PanArt Hang is an instrument that is no longer made. You can find them used on ebay. We sell Aura Handpans, which are comparable, at didgeproject.com/aura
the Hang in this video is detuned and does not hold the strikes(beaten up and loosen down). this is no a good comparison. the guy in the video also forgot to add that you don't really hear much of the RAV Vast starting from a meter distance and the sound is 2D and very directional from each tongue. while Hang sound is 360 degree and fill the room with descent sound pressure, also the sound itself is "3d". the other thing to mention is non-linear behavior of the Hang membrane giving it a much wider dynamic possibilities and thus expression.

They grow out when you start playing. And when your dreads are at perfect length, you have mastered the instrument.
That’s the minimum requirement. The true masters have dreads, man bun, beard, bare feet, nose ring, tattoos and an OM t-shirt.
They often form on their own due to neglect/poor hygiene...
if you grow them out long enough you can use them as mallets for your handpan

Ah cool. Thanks for that.
Very helpful & informative video. Thank you.
Time mark 1:55 turn it upside down and it almost becomes and Oud??? An Oud a stringed (11 to 15 strings) instrument that looks a lot like a Lute from medieval times but developed in the middle east, I don't see the similarity
Its a drum called an Udu
I like your ..taping sound on those pan...
very cool... .brother
Great insights! Have you tried the Aquadrum? Their professional model is tuneable which is very nice
Never heard of that until now. It looks and sounds amazing and is reasonably affordable; thanks!
Hi, am from India and would like to know if you can suggest some good hand pan links where I can place my order.. I am a beginner and don't have much idea
Best recommended handpan for a good entry-level price: didgeproject.com/aura
Hello. As you mentioned that other handpans makers does not create good instruments, can you express your own opinion, which makers are the best and produce handpans closest to PanArt hangs with sound and quality? thnx
magy357 Tacta handpans are fantastic. Check out a demo here: m.ruclips.net/video/uAlEuErL4mY/видео.html
haha sure. Ok, let's skip this obvious advert of your own - some handpand which doesn't connected with you? Or you are not able to provide independent opinion?
From what I could find on youtube with decent sound quality Halo, Saraz, Pantam SbP, and my personal favorite AsaChan are all great. but fuck paying thousands of dollars and being trapped on a waitlist. My Rav sounds amazing and cost $800 with shipping n a bag. (btw the bag sucks cuz its a shoulder strap n its super long. get something custom on etsy for a little more)
Hi... Where did you get it !!! Thats a great price

Good review 👍
Amo los instrumentos❤
Me gustaría empezar a tocar uno, pero no sé cuál..
Hay muchos, como el kalimba y pues la guitarra,el piano, ukelele, etc.
El tema es que no sé cuál me vendría mejor ;-;
Deberías probar uno de esos, luego el siguiente, ¡hasta que encuentres lo mejor para ti!
Does the handpan ever need to be re-tuned?
Yes, the handpans require regular maintenance tuning if they are played with force. Gentle playing should not take them out of tune, so it is possible to own a handpan and not need to get it tuned up. The RAV Drums almost always stay in tune except for in the case of extreme force being applied. Cheers!
Is a Rav drum the same as a tongue drum?
Where could I find the hand pand you have here? I really like that there is a higher tone for each note when you hold and strike
the PanArt Hang is an instrument that is no longer made. You can find them used on ebay. We sell Aura Handpans, which are comparable, at didgeproject.com/aura
This is a good video? I wish I would have discovered it earlier? Great sound? Wow?
This is an awesome video - so interesting. Thank you
Sounds like really chill Crash Bandicoot music awesome dude awesome
Do these work on induction cooktops?
Unless they are aluminum, very likely!
Note A: what's the tune? How many Hz?
Thank you
440 hz on these drums
the Hang in this video is detuned and does not hold the strikes(beaten up and loosen down). this is no a good comparison. the guy in the video also forgot to add that you don't really hear much of the RAV Vast starting from a meter distance and the sound is 2D and very directional from each tongue. while Hang sound is 360 degree and fill the room with descent sound pressure, also the sound itself is "3d". the other thing to mention is non-linear behavior of the Hang membrane giving it a much wider dynamic possibilities and thus expression.
