This is a wonderful comparison. Thank you. I do think people make a mistake trying to say one is "better"....they are all amazing and unique in their own way. And playing them all together , one can certainly create some really wonderful compositions. I currently have a number of Vasts and handpans and am now looking into getting a moon. I love the ethereal sustain. Great possibilities.
Interesting. I have a D Kurd handpan and was thinking about doing a Rav. I’m totally new to playing and was hoping the moon would sound similar for friends to play along. These sound quite similar. It’s also smaller than my big ole handpan so it might be easier for me to learn to play???
@@ReWildYourSoul Definitely! I mean, it was clear they weren’t just a mini version of the full size Rav after listening to it for the first time. But your comparison definitely makes that all the more obvious. Really interesting what they did.
Very interesting. The Moon might be good for slow meditative playing. Very dreamy soundscape. I like it very much. Thank you for comparing it with others.
Thanks for this comparison as I'm getting ready to take my first venture in to a RAV. I'm currently watching as many of your uploads (as well as others) to get a sense of the instruments and what the players in the community are advising. I would like to chime in on what you spoke about concerning sustain in the RAV Moon. As someone who plays Native American flute, each and every instrument is different and unique. I have various flutes and they want to be handled different. Some take a gentle breath while others sing with strong breaths. Adapting to the individual instrument is key. I look forward to more of your comparison videos.
Wholeheartedly agree! I have about 7 years of material to check out on them, so do look at the playlists for a bit more a concise look. I have been working with rav as a Sponsored artist for about 5 years, so have had a chance to play every scale! Lots of reviews on Ravs page and mine to check out. Best of luck my friend!
Fantastic comparison and I'm very impressed with the sound of the Moon. Thanks so much for providing this helpful video. Any comment on how the moon sounds with chords or dyads? Didn't hear any cross talk either, very impressive for a smaller instrument.
Thanks for the comparisons, Ricky! As you know, I play with mallets and I'd love to know how the moon sounds when using them. And...I'll be back for lessons when things settle here in CA.😊
I'm a tabla-player as well and got my Moon Celtic about a month ago. I love my two Vast as well, which I bought few weeks earlier, but the Moon fits me better because the tongues are closer together and hitting wrong note is less obvious than with the Vast. If I'm buying another tongue-drum in Vast-size, I will go with a YW Pulsar and 15 tongues. I already ordered one of Yudin's 'Tonedrum', slightly smaller than the Moon with 11 tongues and up to 17 if customizing it as a Pulsar Mini.
I just bought a d Pygmy moon and the person online helping me said they were not going to be selling moons anymore for a while. I know the Rav Vast is in G so I hope I can still find songs to play on the moon. It sound great online.
The sustain on the Rav Vast Moon is like an echo...I found it pretty distracting..Thanks for the comparisons...I am definitely happy with my nitrided and ember steel handpans..
I am thinking about this also. During playing it seems like the sustained harmonics were distracting and formed a sustained buzz. Probably just me. I haven't bought a Rav yet and have been listening to all the comparisons I can.
@@jeanettebelz5800I disagree, I think it just needs to be approached in a different way. People complained about stainless steel when it first came out as well! Haha de gustat non est disputandem
Thank you for the direct comparison! It's so much easier to get a sense of what each type of drum does well when you can get the same scale side by side. Still biased to the Moon, though 😜
@@ReWildYourSoul and don't get me wrong, the sustain is great. I can't help but think that one could just insert a small rubber stopper in between the tongue and it would shorten the sustain. it would be cheap and possibly the closest thing to a handpan that would never need tuning. cheers
Hey Ricky. You recently posted a video about the RAV moon. I’ve been watching your videos for a long time, but apparently the RAV moon is not available in the US or Europe and cannot be shipped from Russia. What do you know about this situation? Thanks for all your videos
Moon is a very strange thing - lloks like rav vast, but sounds like multi-tone tank tongue drum, not so clear as rav vast. Orion or Eox drum sounds much better!

Thanks for the straight comparison!!
D key is the best for Moon model, but it is too high for Vast model. Vast is much deeper in lower keys.
I agree completely my friend. But I love them all! Thanks for all you do!
lovely to hear all the same scales after eachother, have a lovely day man 🌞🌞🙏🙏
