Similar to Seiken Densetsu 3/Trials of Mana, debuffing an enemy is as effective as buffing every ally by the opposite. So, for Careena, inflicting a weaken spell to lower defense by 50% is like giving everyone a 50% attack boost. For trash mobs, buffs are better, because you are killing them quickly. For boss battles where characters are dying frequently, debuffs are better because you don't need to rebuff fallen characters
i put moon cat to moon and never took him off. gave him +20% crit chance seed and he hit crits constantly. reason i say that to your debuff comment, is additionally, there are MANY seeds that do "debuff on crit" so gave him defence/M-defence down on crit and he was an insane debuffer along with being insane physical DPS with crit damage ups. was mental.
Actually if it's like Trials debuff are even more effect, in Trials the damage formula was dividing the attack power by the ennemy defense, this meant that a 20% debuff to the ennemi's defense was actually a 25% damage increase to the player, so a 50% defense debuff would actually mean +100% damage for the player.
What you said was not true for either Seiken Densetsu 3 or Trials of Mana. In Trials of mana, debuffing was more effective than buffing due to reasons nesoukkefka1741 stated. In Seiken Densetsu 3, debuffing enemy attack is more effective than buffing your own defense while buffing your attack is more effective than debuffing enemy defense. I don't know about this game, but I can not think of any damage formula where lowering an enemy's defense by 50% would consistently increase damage the same as buffing attack by 50%. That said, if a debuff that says -X% enemy defense is simple coded to increasing damage taken by X% instead of touching enemy defense, then what you say can be true for Visions of Mana.
Yep. And if you build careena for debuffs, mixing in palamenas incredible ape and vals tackiness, you can run through the game pretty easily as long as you can keep val alive which isn't too hard
@@godsplayingfieldmoon boy is incredible, seeing all those crits is incredibly satisfying. I need to figure out a team set up with him tho this far I e been addicted to aoe palamenas, tank val and debuff dps melee careena. I usually play as palamena and just sit back and AOE everything
my team the whole game was Val, Morley and Palmeena. V: he was awkward cause i loved his sword moveset and hated the other two. so i had him on hie default guard while getting all the saber magics i could along with the aggro moves so he was the tank. once i got his earth element he wasnt removed from it till post game where mastering classes makes their initial class the best. Morley: he was even more static than Val was. gave him moon and never changed him. gave him crit chance seeds to make his crit chance basically 100%, crit damage up and, most importantly, physical and magical defense down on crit. this made him hit like a fcking truck while reducing the enemies defences to wet tissue paper. when i got enough seed slots i also gave him physical and magical attack down on crit as well. worked absolute wonders. makes sense his personal element association is his strongest one. Pal: this girl.... she drained all my clovers. she was water based for the passives until holy was available, at which point she was a spell casting monster. spammed her holy spells and ended the final boss within a minute with her. reason she drained my clovers was because i wanted to get the AoE elemental spells, most of which were deep into their respective trees. the reason for that was there is a seed of "multi casting: all" which basically speeds up the casting time between spells if you cast the same element over and over (there are lesser versions like multi casting: light. which only does that one specific element for each element. still super useful) and that was only for mobbing when waiting for the last light spells cast time wasnt very effective >.> the others.... honestly i never used much at all. i dont think Julie was even in a single battle (to the point i never allocated any of their EP. finished the game with them having over 1100 EP, looked at the skill trees and just didnt care for any of it) like, Careena is an AMAZING buffer and debuffer, but Morley also does the debuffs with the crit build and for buffs Val does enchanting which boosts damage sky high too. Julie is certainly an amazing healer and summoner but items are very plentiful and at end game Pal gets the moon spell that fully recovers a characters HP, and summons in this game suck absolute ass. atleast the ones i tried with Palmeena. maybe the higher level ones do some amazing things but half the time the summons didnt even hit the enemy! there is also some tomfoolery you can do with their initial class (guard in Val's case for instance) in the post game where it does the FF5 thing that when you master a class, their initial class gets a HUUUGGGEEE buff. making it their defacto best class in the game as long as you master atleast two classes with that character.
I normally do exactly what your playstyle is. Running the "rogue" type character and let the AI handle the tank and elemental damages BUT I've been really liking the javelin+shield VAL. It has good dmg and solid movesets especially if you can get the weapon buffs for typing. Overall, the game is just exactly like all the other Mana games but that's what I love.
I’m working my way through the benevodons portion of the story and now that I’ve got some more of the weapons from the ancient ruins and not depending on Careena and her spear (btw, thank you for that video, it’s how I found you), I’m mostly just playing what looks coolest, with secondary thoughts to the passive abilities I have unlocked. I mostly control Val, cause I just don’t think to play as other characters (it’s a sickness - I do this with Tales, Star Ocean, and other series), so he tends to change to the optimal element class for wherever I am. If there isn’t one, I try to use a greatsword class. At the beginning of the game, the Rune Knight (Val’s wind class for reference) was my go-to, but I couldn’t wait until I could go back to using a short sword again! It was faster and easier, which I liked. Then……….. I got my first short sword vessel. Turns out, they don’t feel like they put out the numbers like the great swords do. Anyway, I’m gonna finish watching this video! Edit: pronunciations! Morley’s Acetic class is pronounced “uh-SEE-tic.”
Palamena Reaper is the most fun I have had playing the game so far. That with a Morley nightblade its just an insane amount of fun. My main team has become Palamena Reaper, Dragon Master Careena and High Cleric Julei. Stupid dmg, insane debuffs and ridiculously strong heals.
Haven’t seen many videos on this game So I was a little disheartened. I’m glad you’re dropping some Content. I’ve been loving the game so far and my daughter is 5, but last year she got hooked on watching trials of mana remake when I played it so she loves this one. She plays but she’s scared of the first boss in the earth town 😂
I settled on Nightblade Morley, Archmage Palamena, and Flex Julei (he's mainly a healer for me, so I just swap the vessel around). Honestly, Palamena out damages Morley on bosses, but Morley's class strikes seem to have higher damage. I gave Julei all of my serums for HP, MP, and both defenses, so he's super tanky. If you're not playing on hard, Julei might be swapped out for Careena for debuffing and more damage.
I just learned that this studio was shut down as soon as the game came out. Saf because I felt like the game made a lot of strides forward even though it felt a little bit too much like genshin impact in ways, due to to a lot of the development team being Chinese they clearly were influenced there. Anyways I still feel like this game made a giant leap forward from trials of mana, and for the next installment if we ever get one, I hear this game isn't selling all that well but who knows. If we do get another modern mana game it won't be like this one because that team's gone, I would only hope they would build on the systems here because I felt like this game was a perfect step up from the previous title. It's simple, in all of the good ways I've never felt overwhelmed by anything I think they bounced that so well. I'm just worried that they will regress this game the next time around if it can manage to sell enough copies to warrant another game. I don't trust square enix, they're known to shelve beloved IP for decades and I'd be devastated if that happens again here. I can only imagine what kind of DLC we could have gotten or expansion content if the development studio wasn't immediately shut down upon release it explains why we haven't really heard anything or gotten any updates
Glad to hear that the devs made buffs/debuffs more useful in this game. Love Trails but it was always a pain to apply status on allies & enemies cause they wore off too soon. Also, glad the AI makes way more of an attempt to be helpful because they were dumb-as-sin last time. Finally, I'm pretty sure the class is pronounced ELDA-FREY.
Its a shame we never got to use aesh. I feel like eith his books, we could have got a really fun caster game play with him similar to arcanist in ff 14. I bet if the developer didn't get immediately shut down the day the game came out we would have gotten to play as him eventually. Also, debuff buildsnwith careena is op. It out performs buffing insividual teammates over all. But doing both, gets kind of nuts. I like to debuff enemies, buff the team aswell then switch to palamena and release an apocalypse on the enemies
Mdorley...night blade vs ninja master? From my little testing, bc of ninjas high luck it crits nearly as much as nightblade soo..which is better in all?
Honestly, moon Morley is so good there’s no reason to ever change him. I’ve pretty much kept everyone as their element and it’s worked fine with 2 exceptions- Val dark and careena light. It’s just a really fun game and I love that any build can more or less be viable- except moon Morley. Brutal.
@@kennethhernandez9243 completely. I tend to go with Morley moon, Val water and then change my other team member between Careena (usually with a punchy class bc it feels fun) and Palamena (I've had her in wind, water, earth, and light for quite a bit for each). but I don't think I've changed Morley once lol
I'm 7 hrs in chp 1 and careena has no abilities and im confused as to why. Only 2 of us have unlocks. Do I have to play more before I can use her abilities?
Don't know what I'll settle with yet. I want tank lance Val but the aggro in this game hasn't been useful so far. The taunt spell doesn't seem to aggro for long at all, and some bosses seem to ignore it entirely while others seem to be aoe bosses who just throw aoe's at random. Careena was going to be my support but I haven't liked my time with her so far. Palmeena I wanted as my reaper dps but I was surprised at how much I like her as a caster. That passive mana gain after battles is so comfy. Morley seems too easy and simple. He made early game boring and he's best as moon, the element I chose for Val so far. Julei was going to be my healer support as wind but I just got them and so far the healing is pretty bad with how much more mana you burn through without Palameena's passive. He might get better later though with the 5% mana return every 5 seconds. What really bothered me though was the stat boosting items being so limited. I'd be fine with a limit of 10 per character like pokemon but 10 total in the game regardless of new game plus makes me feel terrible for using them, no matter who I put them on.
My pet peve is how stingy they get with claymores and katanas in ch7-ch9 i havent found a single one not in shop and then the only Val weapon chest i found from the level 50 ruins contains the worst weapon type in the game. Yeah lance and shield may have objectively better stats but that doesnt matter when its reach is poor and relies on parrying to combo and if im gonna parry spam id rather use katana for its insane aoe and reach. Katanas are also stingy but at least they are kinda op so you don't feel like you need a unique upgrade for it like claymores do lol so my frustration with katanas arent nearly as bad as claymores lol.
I know when i can im gonna make palamena the pet class. Val i dont really care what i use as long as he gets a kickass outfit. I dont like the girly ones where he has his midriff exposed. And ill probably use careena because she reminds me of the sprite from secret of mana
To my understanding, the "whip" as you call it classifies/fits into the "Flail" category. Maybe this game calls it something else but to me it's a flail type weapon. NVM I stopped the video when you said whip, made a comment and pressed play only to realize you mentioned flail. lol.... But other than that thanks for the in site. I'm just giving the Steam demo a go. So far it's really cool gameplay.
