Trials of Mana remake looks great but I LOVE me some Seiken Densetsu 3 multiplayer. I played with my buddy in college, and I play it with my daughter now. I will probably have to pick up the remake at some point just because it looks so good, although I don't know if I'd ever play it.
Played Secret of Mana back with my brother in 93, trials of mana emulated back in 98, missed everything ever since, but loving the visions of mana demo on PC!
You're making me wanna go back and play all of the games I skipped after you explained how interconnected they are. You're actually the reason I went back and tried the original FF Legend/Saga games, and I don't regret it. I even like the super weird Saga games now after opening my mind a bit. I could see myself liking some of these Mana games in the same way. Thanks for the video.
I remember when I booted up Secret of Mana on the SNES for the first time as a little boy and all the cherished memories, fantasies, and joy it brought me. I hope it brought you the same.
Not sure what my all time fave is. But Secret of Mana was most definitely the very first game where the music truly moved me and I still remember fondly, and will for the rest of my life. Despite it individually not being my fave track, I really loved the vibe of that song/visual you get when you first enter the cave in Gaia's navel in that room with Neko between the two cave doorways. Probably the first time I truly felt immersed in the world of a game.
Me too. Played it after reading Super Play Magazine (UK magazine which was the only one to focus on Japan and JRPGs) rave about it and I think it was their highest rated game. The music was so good I would just let it play in my stereo speakers. I recently bought the remake music, too. Canon balling in mode 7 or flying with flammie was a thrill. I had a multi tap which allowed me to play with two friends which was quite unique at the time. Then I imported FF 3(6) and I was hooked on JRPGs.
I must say that you are looking particularly dapper today David. I recently replayed through secret of mana with my wife and currently doing trials of mana. I’m super disappointed that it isn’t coming out for the switch but I am optimistic that it will get a release for the Switch2 and hoping it gets the same collector’s edition that they have with the plushie and everything.
Secret of Mana on SNES was my first coop game with my brother and sister back in the day when it released, it and it's characters really grew on us. So much that nobody of us was grumpy when they were player 2 and had to wait a bit until the scene for Primm to join the party was reached. I'm happy to see the franchise being back in such a glorious way. Of course now netcode would have to be involved, so expecting coop again, 2024 style, is a very big ask and i'm not sad if the newest game doesn't have online coop.
Visions looks beautiful. That was a nice summary of the series with an appropriate amount of personal commentary. You answered my thought when I was wondering about the quality of the game on DS!
Sword of Mana is the only Mana game I’ve ever played, way back in the day before I even knew about the Mana series. And honestly, for a good decade, I considered it to be my favorite game of all time. I maybe have to give Visions a shot and see if it can capture a little of that.
VERY well done dude! Fantastic video! Thanks to your videos talking about Visions of Mana a little while back, I remembered how much I loved Trials of Mana as a kid! But I never beat it and ended up hating Secret of Mana so I just abandoned the series. That is until about a month ago when I saw one of your videos mentioning the series. I immediately fired up my first ever playthrough of Final Fantasy Adventure, and my friends and I started playing through Trials of Mana. I have been absolutely loving both of them, and never would’ve thought to have given this series a second chance. So THANK YOU for making me go back!
The Mana series is so dear to me, its so Nice to hear from someone who loves it as well so good job!!! Currently replaying Secret of Mana (god knows how many times ive replayed that game) in antecipation to Visions of Mana 🎉
Thanks for this, I've been debating getting into this series for a long time. I've played so many niche jrpgs it's amazing I never got around to one this big.
I've always loved the Mana series. I remember playing Legend of Mana back for the PS1. This game and Alundra were the first 2 RPG games I've played. I know not many people did not liked Children of Mana, but I've liked for some reason. It had a charm that some Mana games did not had. I think it's a hidden gem in my eyes. Sword of Mana is also a good one to. I hope the Mana series continues to grow in th future.
I remember playing Secret of Mana on the SNES, but I can't recall much about it. Of course, I only played it once in '95 or '96. I have the Secret and Trials remakes for my PS4, but I haven't gotten into them yet. Too many good games keep coming out. But, I've pre-ordered this one, and I am definitely playing it as my next game. It was the demo that sold me. The other 2 are just going to have to wait a bit longer.
Like yourself I bought the original gameboy game as a child and had no idea of the series. Then my mind was blown in 1993 when I first heard the opening song Angel's Fear, I would just leave the opening playing in the background while doing homework. Legend of Mana would do the same with City of Flickering Destruction in the Jumi city. The series has randomly entered my life over the years and I love every time it does.
I got into the Mana series recently and I love the little bit that I have played in both Secret of mana And Trials of mana And I can't wait to see visions of Mana because when I saw the first trailer drop for that game I was like dang this looks pretty I have the other ps4 titles in the Mana series on ps4 and I am going to get this one
These last few days I have scooped up, Secret & Trials for PS4, and Vision of Mana on PC as I don't have a PS5. Awaiting it to become physical copy for PS4, in NA. It's a charmingly fun game to play.
Secret of Mana was one of the first JRPGs I ever played, and possibly the first one I owned a copy of - I also played a lot of Final Fantasy IV repeatedly rented from the video store (though it was called Final Fantasy II in the US at the time). Plus there was an obscure one called "Lagoon" but I think I got it without the instruction manual or something, and got completely stumped as to how to fight the first boss, so I didn't keep that game. I was in my freshman year of high school at the time, and I got so addicted to JRPGs it affected my grades. :( With "Final Fantasy Adventure" I found the controls too awkward to really play, but I enjoyed the remake Sword of Mana. Trials of Mana I originally played via fan translation, but I also bought an imported Japanese cartridge of Seiken Densetsu 3 and modified my SNES to be able to play it, and I've also played the remake on PS4. I previously had Legend of Mana on my Amazon wishlist (the PS1 version) but removed it once it went into collector's item pricing. I hadn't previously noticed it had been remade on newer systems, but I bought it on Steam while watching this video.
Secret Mana is the first time I stayed up for 3 days playing a game. I imported part 3 when it was new. I seen it in GameFan magazine, I had to get it but due to the language barrier I absolutely couldn't progress in the game. It now had a day/night cycle and there was one trigger that I could not find.
Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo EXCITED FOR VISIONS OF MANA!!! 🎉
I remember playing Secret of Mana with my 6 year old daughter and I let her name the characters. When it got to the Sprite she said "let's name her Poppy!!" Well the actual characters name was Poppi!! Looks like my daughter knows RPG's were gonna play some secret of Mana right now anticipating Visions of Mana!
I started the Mana Series on the GBA in the 2000s (Sword of Mana) and was hooked i tried Secret of Mana on the SNES because it was a hand me down for my older brother with that that's how I know the Mana Series Also nice Formal Wear David 👍
I remember playing the heck out of FF Adventure. But I also remember playing a turn based strategy game on the GB, Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 if i remember. They weren't part of the Mana series?
Good overview David!! Love the Mana series. But I have to question why you call Legend of Mana a spinoff. It always seemed like a mainline entry to me but i'm not sure now that I've seen this video. It was directed by Koichi Ishii,, just like the first three games in the series. Children of mana, which is a spinoff, had a different director and was one of the games that was part of the "world of mana" subgames including Dawn of Mana and Heroes of Mana. So it's a bit odd to me to see it as a spinoff!
I hope they consider putting more of the side games on modern hardware. I Want to collect all of the Mana games. While I'm not super hyped for Visions of Mana, it should be an okay game.
I've been playing Secret and Legends with my preschooler and we were really enjoying it. I was hoping this new one would have co op like all the others but looks like it won't sadly. ; (
Visions of Mana looks like a hell of a lot of fun, and I'm a fan of the franchise as a whole. But calling it the "game of the summer" when Wukong is doing the kind of numbers it's doing right now is quite a stretch.
Appropriate that you should call Legend of Mana the SaGa of Mana; it was directed by Akitoshi Kawazu, and even has the same artist as SaGa Frontier. Personally, I love this series, but I've only played the first three to completion, and only two remakes (Sword of Mana and the 3D Seiken Densetsu 3). I've at least tried most of the others (Visions of Mana can't run well enough to be playable on my current system), and I'm a pretty big fan, except for Heroes of Mana; I'm way too much of a bulldozer for most Turn-Based Strategy games, let alone Real-Time Strategy. Secret of Mana was my first, and despite its drawbacks, probably my favorite, mostly because of what a big adventure it is; the area outside of the Fire Palace has stuck with me all these years.
Not directed exactly, but having been at Square since the mid 80s, he had become the kind of “elder statesman” that would be brought on to struggling projects. Which is the case with Legend, as there was doubts it was going to make its original 99 release in Japan. I also appreciate the game more than my initial playthrough knowing his involvement, as the similarities to SaGa are quite clear.
It’s a solid game that could be better. Even the vaunted claim of “back to level 1!” goes away after you obtain some medals that you can equip prior to each. The main reason for even having it is because being able to toss every enemy and thing by default would make stunning and restunning too easy, and thereby the game as a whole.
I was wondering when we were going to have the privilege of learning about the mana series. Truth be told, I've only played Tree of Mana, and that cheap remake that was for the 3ds online store
making me psyched for the new game!!!!!!!!! and yes played thru the whole demo (southern accent on that one woman was a bit odd....) but im all in that said - I think i like the combat in trials remake better. hmmm
But NOT EVERY game left Japan theirs loads of Moble/Cell Phone Mana games NONE of which left Japan while Adventures of Mana IS a VITA game I believe it never actually GOT a AMERICAN vesrion ie Japan only.
I love secret of mana as much as angone, but I feel like you are making the common mistake of over-valuing its importance in the mana series. The first game is actually responsible for more of the series tropes than you emphasize and a lot of Sexret’s greatness doesn’t extend beyond Secret and its direct follow up.

So far so good. Story is good, characters are fleshed out well. All while keeping old school combat elements.
Sword of Mana is underrated. The Trials of Mana remake is currently my favorite
Trials of Mana remake looks great but I LOVE me some Seiken Densetsu 3 multiplayer. I played with my buddy in college, and I play it with my daughter now. I will probably have to pick up the remake at some point just because it looks so good, although I don't know if I'd ever play it.
Sword of Mana is WAY underrated! It takes to original to a whole new level and transforms it into such a lovely game!
I love this. Secret of Mana was one of my favorite SNES games back in the day.
Played Secret of Mana back with my brother in 93, trials of mana emulated back in 98, missed everything ever since, but loving the visions of mana demo on PC!

What! Video got buried by the algorithm. Great work as always David. Loving the new Mana game
Secret of Mana is my all time favorite OST! ❤
Kikuta is the man.

I do think legend of mana is underrated and doesn't get the love it deserves.
Secret of Mana got me into JRPGs. Im forever thankful for this series! I cant wait to see what the new game has to offer
Secret of mana wad my first mana game too kind of makes me feel old but nostalgic
Me too. Played it after reading Super Play Magazine (UK magazine which was the only one to focus on Japan and JRPGs) rave about it and I think it was their highest rated game.

I had a multi tap which allowed me to play with two friends which was quite unique at the time. Then I imported FF 3(6) and I was hooked on JRPGs.
Same here. It was my intro in RPGs in general. And to this day I prefer Co-Op Action RPGs over Strategy RPGs.
I must say that you are looking particularly dapper today David. I recently replayed through secret of mana with my wife and currently doing trials of mana. My pleasure!

Could be your best video ever! Also, would love a visual or time map showing all games/releases on their timeline. Interesting history!

Got all dressed up to discuss the Mana series. Very nice. I seriously can’t wait for Visions to come out this week.
Legend of was my first experience with the series. One of my favorite games
Looking SHARP in this one 👍🏻
Mana series is so fun. Excited for thursday!

Mana Series explained in style with David
Wow I never thought I'd see the day you in a suit david your looking very dapper
Really fun look back over the history of the series. Thanks, David! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!
Going to be playing my first ever Mana game with Visions of Mana!

Of all the games being released this year, Visions of Mana is the game im looking forward to the most. Well, Dragon Quest 3 HD 2D... is also up there
Secret of Mana was one of the first JRPGs I ever played, and possibly the first one I owned a copy of - I also played a lot of Final Fantasy IV repeatedly rented from the video store (though it was called Final Fantasy II in the US at the time). Love from Belgium 🇧🇪 ❤ Legend of Mana ❤❤❤❤
This reminds me that I still haven't finished Adventure of Mana 3D remake on my phone yet. I should finish it this week.
David's looking sharp in this video.
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Great video
Glad you enjoyed it!
We need a game room update! I want to see what all new goodies you got behind you! Along with everything you've had forever
I’m actually filming one today!!
I started the Mana Series on the GBA in the 2000s (Sword of Mana) and was hooked i tried Secret of Mana on the SNES because it was a hand me down for my older brother with that that's how I know the Mana Series

Zaddy lookin sharp!
I remember playing the heck out of FF Adventure. But I also remember playing a turn based strategy game on the GB, Final Fantasy Legend 1-3 if i remember. They weren't part of the Mana series?
Legend of Mana is a masterpiece
Legend of Mana is the Saga of the Mana series because it was produced by Akitoshi Kawazu.

Visions of Mana looks kinda interesting :S
I love this series. I even only accidently bought Trail of Mana but it was the best mistake I ever made. A happy mistake.
Nice suit man.
Thanks!
Where can i find the secret of mana remix music that you put on your video. It’s so good
Thank u
Wow I did not realize how many games in the series were just remakes of the original trilogy.
Palamena ❤
So excited for the new mana game. Aside from the remake of trials I don't think there has been a great mana game since Legend of mana.
You were so nice on Dawn of Mana. It needs a remake and a lot of fixing
I agree, but this wasn’t a review type of video, just an overview of the games
It’s a solid game that could be better.
Even the vaunted claim of “back to level 1!” goes away after you obtain some medals that you can equip prior to each.

didn't you think the enemies in visions felt a bit spongy/too many HPs? it seemed like some early battles took way too long
Great outfit!
Thank you!
Spiiifffyyy dresserrrr!!!! Did you just max out on charisma?
Loved the video
hi Davidvinc RPGs
For the longest time I thought secret of evermore was related to secret of mana.
Ha! So did I back in the day!
I heard making RUclips shorts makes subscribers jump!
Right but who’s that in the thumbnail tho?
Angela
No matter what everyone says but i loved original secret of mana more than seiken densetsu 3
Too many layers of clothing
Wow, you need to dress up more often. You look good in Carolina blue.
Don't forget the mobile game! Haha
Id rather forget lol
But NOT EVERY game left Japan theirs loads of Moble/Cell Phone Mana games NONE of which left Japan while Adventures of Mana IS a VITA game I believe it never actually GOT a AMERICAN vesrion ie Japan only.
